Niknak and LM - I agree with the choc thing, but really moreso because I'm not a massive chocolate fan and rarely have it in the house. The DSDs had chocolate crispies on the go this weekend and DS LOVED those, though .. Everything in moderation, eh? Mind you, my sister is a dentist and has already kitted DS with a toothbrush and toothpaste etc., I brush his teeth every night after his bath (after his last meal, but he often has some milk to help him fall asleep) and he really enjoys it now...

Sho - GOod wishes for your SIL from me too. Must be so scary on top of everything else. Hoep she's feeling better soon!

I totally agree with not giving chocolate at this age. My mum gave dd a caramel wafer before christmas. She thought there was no harm in it giving that theres not alot of chocolate involved. She hasnt done it since.

DD definately doesnt like gettin out shined by her wee cousins. When my sister was induced dd got her 1st tooth, when my sister left the hospital dd decided to crawl. SIL just had her pfb, out pops tooth #3! I know that its just coincidence but its pretty funny

Niknak21 · 09/03/2009 13:28

Just some dental info, not sure if HM's sister has seen them, but the wisdom toothbrushes for under 3s are oval shaped and I think are brill. DS2 cries when I take his off him

Haribosmummy · 09/03/2009 14:50

Niknak this is the one my sis recommended.

It's suitable from birth and is a toothbrush at one end and a teether at the other, so after I've brushed and rinsed DS's teeth, he can just chew on the toothbrush....

I totally agree about sweets & chocolate. I think it's crap that kids prefer sweet stuff (I've heard this loads of times) and am quite militant about the other peoples' desire to introduce bad stuff to my dd. She has melon as her special food that her grandparents can give her as a treat. It was my suggestion & they're happy with it. Well, my mum's happy but we're very similar. Dp's mum asked about an Easter egg & when I reminded her dd's a veggie who has only eaten organic done (& no chocolate-not even Green & Blacks !) she suggested that Thorntons would be ok then because it's good chocolate! Slightly missing the point.

Niknak21 · 09/03/2009 17:16

That's the one Haribo! I love them but colgate stuff tends to flood the market

thefortbuilder · 10/03/2009 18:32

HM!!!! o'h my goodness congratulations!
get thee to your email! also I'm filming tomorrow afternoon if you're up for it - sorry such short notive but i've just managed to get all the kids here together then....

sorry haven't read the rest of the thread at all, not been around much recently and it's all a bit pants here but LM thanks for the thanks on the book - it is fantastic isn't it. I've got to get raising boys now as it's apparently really appropriate now ds1 is almost 3.

HM will try and give you a call as well

thefortbuilder · 10/03/2009 18:43

also just quickly - niknak don't know how you are progressing with the poos in pants but i have a friend who's lo has recently regressed back into nappies after having had antibiotics and then an upset tummy and a few accidents. I think it is fairly common and normal for it to happen and the only bit of advice is to take things at ds's own pace

also about the chocolate for babies thing - ds1 is 2.8 and still not had chocolate per se - he's had chocolate powder on top of a babycino if we don't realise but we are really anal about him not having chocolate as a treat - really drummed it into mine and dh's parents from the off. hilariously he doesn't really have a sweet tooth and on pancake day at nursery all the other kids wanted jam and ds1 asked very firmly for ham...then picked the ham out had a mouthful of the pancake and announced he was finished! we have to watch him with savoury things as cheese does have a high salt content as does ham and vegemite and marmite - even though he only has a scraping of those on toast he has never had jam at all. it's so difficult isn't it - there's something in everything that you have to watch!

Niknak21 · 11/03/2009 03:19

Poos in the loos update. We have had 4 days in a row with a poo on the loo. So we seem to have really turned a corner. Unfortunately it was the choc incentive that seems to have worked, he's exactly 3.5 at the end of the month so seems to be getting obsessive about most things, but have been at being asked if he can have choc when I've hardly opened my eyes. Thanks for all the support on the toileting matter, I hope to never mention it again on this thread!

Flick unfortunately DS1's own pace is that of a snail, he's easily distracted and loos are not interesting places to be, he'll miss out on some action somewhere! Also would like to tell you I did have a rogue rouge bootie in the wash (DH should not be allowed near the machine, but I can't complain when he is trying to help). It dyed quite a few things, including some borrowed ski socks , but it didn't die! Which is a good thing IMO. Love your DS1 sticking to his ham. DS1 once had a fruit pastel type sweet at nursery Xmas party, he would've been 2 and a bit and he'd never had any sweets. He spat it back into his hand cos he didn't like it(with his 2 parents silently cheering from the sidelines!)

Back to DS2. Had to see the GP today cos at the 8mnth check (done at 9mnth cos local babies not reaching their milestones ) his testes were hiding. Anyway GP showed me where they are and they are undecended, so we have to go for a referral and probably an op . But the most annoying/worrying thing is the 'hospital of choice' crap. We live about 5 mins drive from Poole hospital, but GP couldn't ref us there, it wasn't coming up as an option on the computer because the waiting list is too long. So our 'hospitals of choice' are 45 mins drive away . He did say if we opt for Southampton it's linked to Poole so we could probably get the op done in Poole. A bit worried about DS2 going for a GA and it would be easier/less stressful if it was down the road not down the motorway. In rush hour it can take well over an hour to get to S'ton.

So that is why I'm posting at this ungodly hour. DS1 woke at 12.38 saying his feet hurt and I've not been able to go back off . I'm busy doing admin and trawling the internet waiting for morning .

Hope everyone has a good Wed x

Haribosmummy · 11/03/2009 07:36

Hello everyone!

Flick - see you later!

Niknak - congratulations on the poos-in-loos!! Sorry to hear about DS2... The NHS does my head in most of the time... You hear all these stories about 'access rights' and 'patient choice' - but everytime I seem to go, there's a month long waiting list yada yada yada...Hope you got some more sleep and aren't too tired!!!

MumofJandK - I forgot to thankyou for your story about the woman who hadn't realised she was PG. It does make me feel better knowing I'm not the only one!!

I've been trying much harder to get DS settled in his own room now (I often, up to now) just let him sleep in my bed if he wanted to) but glad to say, the last two nights he's slept through in his own cot / in own room... but he gets up at 5am!!!

Right, I'm off, as DS is trying to help me type and I fear I will make no sense at all if I let him near the keyboard!!

Happy Wednesdays!

HM x

niknak sorry to hear about the testes situation (that's not a phrase i ever thought i'd hear myself say) - can they wait a couple of months to see if they do come down on their own? it is quite common I understand - certainly at ds2's 8 month check they were a bit high but have since come down all ok.

not much else to say here - HM see you later!

ds2 still waking for aobut an hour a night.....320 this morning till 430 we were up playing. not impressed.

Niknak21 · 11/03/2009 10:01

Managed to get through to southampton and he has the 1st available appt on 24th April, GP said we would be seen within 40 days, receptionist just told me, no 12 weeks!! My local GP friend is getting her secretary to look into the Poole situation. Wondering about asking for private referral, to reduce my worrying more than anything. He'll be 11 mnths by time we get his appt.....

Haribosmummy · 11/03/2009 10:10

niknak - I'm afraid I almost always go private, and I probably will for the new baby too... Can you get an appt. with a consultant just to discuss it?

Sorry, it's really stressful with waiting, but maybe what flick said is right - maybe the extra time will bring 'em down on their own?

DH's birthday today. We just had lunch in Costa Coffee, with the girls. They were suprisingly good and the chocolate twists are to die for.....

Hello all and happy birthday lucky daddy!

We had our first swimming lesson today, which DS largely wailed through. he calmed down towards the end. I think there's some separation anxiety going on but he does it when we visit my friend with a baby the same age, cries for a bit when we arrive. We don't get out much to m and b groups so I think we're going to try a bit harder and see if we can't "socialise" him a bit. Going swimming again next week and hope he'll like it a bit better.
Hope you can work something out about the hospitals NikNak

off to the beach tomorrow so have a good weekend all !

xx

Niknak21 · 12/03/2009 19:04

Happy Birthday Luckdaddy

Have sorted a Poole appt for DS2. I have a lovely GP friend who got me the patient contact number and spoke to a very helpful lady who phoned my practice, got me sorted so I could be seen at Poole and they had by chance one in a fortnight, 9am and a day DS1 is in nursery. I did think I was going to have to get a private initial consultation since it would've been cheaper than DH having most of the day off work and putting DS1 into nursery for the day worked. GP was accessing the urology department not paeds she thought. I was very pleased .

Got parents staying at the moment to look after DS1 while we go to a wedding in Wimbledon. DS2's 5th wedding, but 1st with him being speedy crawler. Luckily DH's cousin is looking after him for the ceremony and we're collecting him on the way to the reception.

monkeysmama · 12/03/2009 22:41

Evening ladies

We're off to La Manga on Sunday and I can't wait - I really, really need a holiday.

Niknak - good luck with the appointment.

Hope you're all well.

MM

monkeysmama · 12/03/2009 23:14

I have to get dp's birthday gifts tomorrow. No idea what to get. Any suggestions? Please help-I'm too tired to be imaginative. Xx

Mocat · 13/03/2009 00:35

I've been reading and running for months but I just had to say CONGRATULATIONS Haribosmummy. Fab news!!

Glad to read that you are all well and surviving life's ups and downs. I don't seem to have the time to get online since returning to work. DS is doing really well - crawling and pulling himself up to stand wherever he can. Still feeding him myself when not at work and the boobs are keeping going. DH,DD - who is 5.5 - and I are all grand.

Remembering that this time last year you were like a lifeline through a very challenging pregnancy. Thank you to you all.

All the best, Mocat.

shonnomanom · 13/03/2009 07:56

Morning Ladies

I have a belly button query for you all

When our darlings where newborns did their bellybutton crust fall off by itself or did the hv remove it, and if so at what age ?

The reason I ask is that my neice who was born on Saturday had hers removed by the HV on Wednesday.
Although my sil lives only a few miles away she is under a different health authority. So not sure if its a different protocol through there or if the hv was wrong.

We were told when dd was born that the crust would fall off naturally at around the 10days mark, and dd stuck to that schedule.

Sho x

Haribosmummy · 13/03/2009 08:07

Yep, same here Sho - DS's crust fell off naturally after about 10 days, I can't remember exactly, but about that.

DH and DSDs were having lunch at the Oxo Tower and I texted them a picture!

Have had two terrible nights here with DS... Last night, he was up from 1:30 until 5:18 (I was watching the clock as his eyes finally shut!!) and the night before that, he got up at 3:30 - and didn't go back to sleep until 10:30!!!

I don't honestly know where he's getting the energy from, cos I'm totally shattered!!

Really fancied a lie in this morning, but DH is expecting (YET ANOTHER) guitar to be delivered and wants me to be in, so I have to walk Ddog first.... How on earth am I going to manage with two???? [Groan emoticon]

Well`, better get on.

Hope you all have god weekends planned and to MM... Enjoy your break
HM xx

HM I'm wondering if the sleep thing's age related. Dd's been up so many times in the past 4 nights I've lost count (& the will to live). She wants to play when she wakes up which is unusual & is awake for ages each time. I really sympathise. I am so tired I can't think properley. And cold seeing as the boiler's gone again....

thefortbuilder · 13/03/2009 16:15

ladies - teeth teeth teeth.....ds2 has been waking regularly for the past week or so at around 130 for about 3 hours - i'm combating it by a shot of medised and some milk when he wakes and he goes back to sleep again pretty soon.

HM lovely to see you the other day and talking of difficult pg's and pg stages - it's ds2's birthday next friday! how has the year gone

not much else to add here - just plodding along as usual.

Haribosmummy · 13/03/2009 19:58

Flick - that's interesting that you think it might be teeth... Harry is certainly holding his left ear quite a bit, I'd sort of ruled it out, because he's so HAPPY when he wakes - he's not crotchety or grumpy or inconsolable... He just isn't tired and wants to play!!

Anyway, I only let him nap for 2 hours today (He managed 3 yesterday and the day before that) and he's gone to bed already (30 minutes earlier than usual!) so fingers crossed!!

HM
