Mitchell81 · 23/02/2009 09:09

Happy Birthday Haribo ,what a nice surprise DH being home for another day. What are you doing today?

Monkeysmama Enjoy your trip, hope you manage ok with everything.

baiyu · 23/02/2009 09:50

Happy Birthday HM! Monkeysmama I just did Edinburgh to Bath and back on the train with DS and survived! I'd say travel as light as you can (I totally failed) and yes, ask people for help! I had so many great helpers on my journey, really made a difference. Good luck!

macaco · 23/02/2009 10:12

Hi all

HM Happy Birthday, hope you have alovely day, great tht DH is home!

Sho hope DD is feeling better soon, poor little love.

Baiyu I liked the Dr Marc book a lot but didn't agree with everything in it. He says to leave them to cry if necessary for a certain amount as going in too soon can wind them up again. I sort of agree with that, sometimes if I leave DS for a little longer he will drop off, whereas if I'd gone in it gets him going again. But I don't like to leave him screaming his head off. What I took away from it was to watch for tired signs and put them to bed then, not let them get over tired. Also to have some idea of when I could expect them to be tired, so I watch the clock as well as them. Also not to rush in at the first squeak, to give him a few minutes and see if he was going to drop off.
Sometimes i think DS is tired and so I put him in his cot and he babbles away at his toys for a while but never goes to sleep and after a while gets more insistent so I get him out. He seems to need just some quiet time sometimes, without actually sleeping.

luckymummy74 · 23/02/2009 20:52

Happy Birthday Haribo!!!!

It was me who posted the summary of the book, but I nicked it from the April 08 post natal thread, I didn't do it myself! Should be on one of our old threads, you can do a search for it.

monkeysmama · 24/02/2009 09:43

Hey ladies

Hope you had a good birthday HM. Did you get spoilt rotten?

Our train journey was fine. Travelled light (well, a change bag, a toy bag & a clothes bag) but got lots of help. Not from dd though who didn't want to work with me in the early part of the day. I saw a baby change in Euston & thought I'd change her while I could. Think I've said before that dd HATES baby change tables & gets so scared-well hysterical really. But she'd pooed so we had to use it. Silly mummy though took her nappy off before getting the wipes out. And of course she put her feet in the poop then grabbed a foot with her hand before kicking the nappy to the floor. I stood there for a few minutes (after wiping her hands!) at a loss for what to do. Ended up having to put her in the sink! By the time we got on the train I was covered in water & sweating.

Virgin trains were great tho (don't hear that often!) and helped us on then moved our seat to a table with space for the pram (for wheelchair users). It was 1st class but booked in advance & only cost 3quid more than standard class. Well worth it-especially for free lunch, coffee & even wine if you want it! Dd lived up to her name & was a star.

Best be off-it's my nan's 92nd birthday so we're going out to Lytham for lunch to celebrate! Must say dd's been beautiful with her "big nanny" (who is under 5 ft!) & seems to know she can't pull and jump and has been gently kissing her. It really is lovely.

Have happy days.

Haribosmummy · 24/02/2009 11:50

Oh, MM - I am very jealous! I love Lytham!! We have lots of friends there!!!

I travel up to Newcastle with DS and the dog and always go first class... def. worth the extra money for the space and the service!!!

Right, off to catch up with everyone else!

Thank you for the birthday wishes - had a lovely day yesterday!

Had a great day today. Nothing special, but DD1 was as good as gold and such a pleasure to be around. Days like this make me just lurvvvve being a mummy.....I wish they could all be like this.

luckymummy74 · 25/02/2009 20:34

MM Poor you, that nappy change sounds horrendous. I hate times like that.

baiyu · 26/02/2009 20:59

Glad you had a good day LM! It's awfully quiet around here...
All's fine here...ish. DP's Dad and my aunt are both really ill, car's a write off, our washing machine is broken AGAIN and I'm knackered. Trying to Hope you're all well.

Haribosmummy · 26/02/2009 21:32

Oh, Baiyu - sorry you are having a tough time of it. Is DS still not sleeping well? How is the Moonwalk training going? I have a Karrimor backpack (AKA as a Makka Pakka Backpack in our house!!) and it's great for DS. He loves being at the same height as me, as everyone talks to him. he finds it easy to sleep in too (though I find this disconcerting and spend more time checking him!!! ) but it's great for training as it means you aren't limited to walks with buggies!!

GingerWench - How are you? I saw you on the other thread about 8/9 month old napping!

I'm really sorry about the car too...

DS has been really snuffly the last couple of days and I decided to take him to the doctors this morning and (ONCE AGAIN!) as soon as we got to the Drs, DS acted like he'd never felt better I'm sure they must think I have Munchausens syndrome!!! Anyway, he is much better and even went swimming this afternoon.

I am feeling a bit about his swim class though, cos quite a few mums have changed class, so now DS is stuck with a load of 5 month old babies and he's by far the most advanced so we just pootle around the pool on our own (to be fair, DS couldn't give a hoot, so I suppose what's really bothering me is that I'm paying £12 to pootle around a pool with DS!!)

He has two moew modelling jobs next week! Little star!!

Flick - I texted you about tomorrow - Hope that's OK - I'll be with you just after midday.. I think that will work out best.

LM - How are you feeling? So glad you had a good day - it's lovely to remember how GOOD being a mummy can be! How is SB?

So, is anyone else ready to have another little one? I've been feeling very broody (though I know I can't cope with two when DH is away so much!) but it doesn't stop the hormones eh????

baiyu · 27/02/2009 10:00

Hey HM, training hasn't really startd yet . I was given quite an old karrimor backpack which is great when DS is awake but as soon as he falls asleep his neck is all forward on the straps and it's majorly uncomfortable for him so end up carrying him. Just need to time using it better I guess.

Not feeling ready for another LO just yet! Maybe in another 6 months... Your DH has said you can have another one didn't he HM? I guess it's just when. Is DH always going to be working in Russia or is there any chance he could work closer to home in the future? Or does he just like hotels?! A friend of ours with a LO of similar age to ours is pg again, brave woman!

gingerwench · 27/02/2009 10:24

hi there

definitely not ready for another little one here!

MM I feel your pain re the nappy change. I don't know what it is about feet in poo and then feet in mouth...bleugh

HM happy belated birthday

baiyu best wishes for your aunt and FIL. I'm still mainly doing walks with the pushchair. DH has used a Kelty Kids back carrier that we've borrowed from friends. But when I tried it I didn't find it as comfortable as putting DS in my moby sling. I may try a soft carrier like an Ergo that would be comfy for DS and me, but better for back carrying than the sling and not needing so much readjustment.

shonnomanom · 28/02/2009 16:00

hey

I jokingly said to dp a few weeks ago that I thought that I might be pregnant again - he freaked out!! Not in a way that he doesnt want anymore, but in a way of we cant afford to fix the house in order to sell it - his face was so funny when he realised I was joking!

On the otherhand there is a lady at our playgroup who had her 3rd child in April and is soon to have her 4th with the next month. If baby#4 comes before #1's bday (shes due just before) she'l have 4 under 4!! :O

macaco · 28/02/2009 17:28

OMG! about the 4 under 4! Is that even physically possible? Did she just always get instantly pregnant? There must be twins in there somewhere?

I'm knackered. DS is teething again (number 8) and I'm finding it so tiring and I am HATING work so much just now.

How's everyone else?

shonnomanom · 28/02/2009 18:21

amazingly no twins involved!! apparently she was wanting a break after #3 - that obviously never happened lol

im really struggling at picking a new car seat for dd, theres just too much out there and there very similar

Haribosmummy · 28/02/2009 19:12

Oh, Macaco - Sorry to hear about your work. That's really tough... DS is teething here too (No 5 and 6 together). He's also being very wilful and wants to be into everything.

I am going to baby proof the dayroom tomorrow (so far only done the playroom) but he has one of these walkers now and has figured out how to open drawers (and remove the contents!!!! )

Sho - I am also at 4 under 4. That must put real pressure on a couple.

We got the mamas and papas protec car seat and we're really happy with it - DS MUCH prefers facing forwards and being able to see what's going on!

Baiyu - hope you are well and your FIl and Aunt.

Flick - Lovely to catch up yesterday. it's lovely to get out, and we had a great cab ride back - the taxi driver was so nice!!!

Things here are going well. DH in a good mood and I'm having a bit of a clear out on Ebay at the moment (well, and freecycle - it's amazing what some people will come and collect ). Have just sold my piano (I have to be realistic and admit that I haven't played it since DS was born and also the play room is much better for DS with it gone...) so just waiting for an Ebayer to come and collect this evening.

I have quite a bit more to list on Ebay, but can't seem to work up the motivation, even though I'll be really happy when I do get it listed. This new house is SOOOOO modern and really needs the minimalist approach, IYSWIM (not really that I simply have lots of junk [blush!])

HM I like the Mamas & Papas ProTec. But giving that Hannah is light in weight and with the current advice about how weight is very important, I was thinking that it was maybe best to put her in a combination seat that way she is rear facing until her weight picks up then I can turn her round. I was planning on waiting a month or so to change seats but she is getting a bit squishy in her seat.
Currently leaning towards the Britax First Class Plus as the reviews are quite good but still hunting around...

monkeysmama · 28/02/2009 20:52

Evening ladies

Thanks for asking HM - meal went really well & are back home safe and happy now.

We're going on holiday in 2 weeks to La Manga. I really want a holiday but/and we're going with another couple and their two LOs (both boys) aged 2.5 and 1. We're good friends but those of you who've been around for a while may remember my farcical summer holiday with friends. Hey ho - it's booked and we're going so am sure we'll have fun. Not sure what to expect weather etc wise and what to take.

I plan another baby at some point but not for at least another year or so - more likely 2 or 3.

HM - how easy is the Ebay selling and what do I need to so to start? I never thought it was worth it but I have loads of stuff I can't give away and am thinking it might give me some dough to go shopping!

Have a good evening everyone

MM

Haribosmummy · 28/02/2009 20:53

How much does Hannah weigh? We put Harry in the forward facing car seat at 8.5kg (I appreciate the guidelines say 9Kg) but he's very tall and is MUCH happier in the forward facing seat - plus (and I've been crucified on MN for this, so please go easy on me!) I have a HUGE 4x4, so probably the safest thing on 4 wheels, so I didn't mind moving him early IYSWIM... I'm afraid I don't know anything about the combo chairs . He's well over 9Kg now, but wasn't when he first used the ProTek...

We liked the ProTek cos it fits in most cars (including DH's) which was important to us, but Fuzzypeach has it too, and I think she's happy with it...

MM - Ebay is great... but it takes some consideration.

In order to start selling, it's preferable to have some feedback (I'm on just shy of 900 ) and have 100% positive (which I'm very proud of) feedback which I think is important.

It might be worth buying a few things first to get some feedback?

So, in order:
Set up an Ebay account
Set up a Paypal account (pretty much required these days - don't accept personal cheques, they are too much hassle!!)
Tool around on Ebay and try buying a few things - will give you a feel for things and get you some feedback (Sellers are only able to leave + feedback!)

My top tips would be:

  • Only accept paypal
  • Don't set reserve prices, just a starting bid at a price you are willing to let the item go for. (cheaper to list)
  • Send everything recorded. Paypal won't acccept proof of postage, only proof of delivery.
  • If you can be bothered find the time, list as much as you can together, helps with people who search on multiple listings (but remember, this will cause problems when you have to post the whole lot at once!!)
  • Get on to freecycle for free packaging materials.
  • Be truthful about the time it will take you to get items off to buyers. The faster the better, but be realistic..

Hope that's of some help!

My piano is now gone but I do have more cash

Hellooooo! I keep meaning to pop back here, and finally have and its all different! I thought the page wasn't loading up but the advert at the top just threw me .
Sooo, a quick update. I'm still mad on slings- have 7 last count (I've sold one so one was a replacement, honest) and just got a coat so J can be 'in' my coat either front or back and we're covered up.

J is cruising with avengance- I got K's walking trolley out so J does laps and K turns her around at each end. Hands free parenting- bliss! But its a bugger how much she can reach, and she climbed the stairs a couple of days ago. Another pain- we never needed a gate at the bottom with K, she didn't get on the move till nearer a year old.

I've been back at work 3 weeks now- arrgghh! I'm actually almost still enjoying it, but this week my back/SI joints went. My chiropractor was telling me 'you're fine all through pregnancy, labour, lugging children around but 3 weeks at work do THIS to you?!'. Nothing like work to give me backache!

I'm still breastfeeding, I was wondering about expressing (I did for 3 months with K when I returned but got very stressed) so J is on food and water for 12 hours when I'm not around, and fine with boob when I am available. I've managed not to have exploding boobs, just uncomfortable for a few days but, as J wasn't lunging at me as soon as I got in, I managed to resist expressing so it settled down quick.

Right, off to read a few pages to catch up a bit.I hope I've got the right thread, I don't recognise many names yet!!

baiyu · 01/03/2009 00:23

Hey mumofkandj! welcome back yes you're in the right place. Haribosmummy used to be ycbs and nssa, can't thnk if there are many other name changes. Oh pinacolada- fuzzy peach. Now do you recognise us? Glad you're still sling mad, any recommendadtions for a hip one for around the house? I use a 'close' one out sometimes but it doesn't do on the hip and I'm destroying my back lugging DS around the house (he's very clingy and our kitchen is too tiny for him to play in).

HM Ebay tips noted, it's been on my to do list for ages! I'm very good at buying but not sold anything yet.

I'm just back from the loveliest evening out. Saw Amadou and Mariam in concert (I love them!) and my lovely friend babysat DS who has been ASLEEP ALL EVENING! I don't know how she did it. He was wailing when we left ut she had him asleep 20 mns later and not a peep since. I fed him when we got in a wee while ago and straight back to sleep. Amazing! It was so nice to go out with DP, wear a dress, have a dance and feel 23!

sho no car seat ideas i'm afraid, our car is dead . Though I'll have to have one when we hire/borrow a car as his current one is getting very small.

MM Have a great holiday! I vaguely remember the story of the last one but not details. Hope it goes well.

Night all
