Trace just read your thing when you said feeling thirsty when feeding but not drinking....not to nag but drinking each time you feed is a sure fire way to sort out your bowels. I have the same prob with the piles but drink loads because I get the most raging thirst the minute I even unclip my bra (I get thirsty watching other people breastfeed even when I am not lactating, I am a freak). I have a system - I keep a large 2 litre bottle (that I just top up from the tap once/twice a day) beside where I feed the most and top up an exercise type sippy bottle thing (because I constantly knock glasses over with baby, pillow, self). Please drink more, it will help your energy...Nag over!

LadyT and others we were talking about him in December - John Updike has died .

Lal - your cake is fab!!! I think you have every right to bang on...

Cat interesting what the Osteopath says - may makse sense. see how you go. I have a set of Silks for you though - just in case!! ps; my own midwife was horrified when I said what the first cranial osteo said to you. To the extent she urges you to complain (I am sure you have enough to do)

Kim so sorry about your friend. Hope she gets some good news. And hope also you enjoyed your first day alone with Judah. Sorry you can't make the meet up - but will see you soon.

Jump eeek at the eight babies. Its as much as I can do to manage 1!!

As to the commune I must stress I only want to join so as not to miss out on fun and crack! My Dh and I (touch wood) have got over our traditional post baby rough patch. He has been a star the last few weekends and in the eve (although he doesn't get home til late he stays up with me just to change DD's nappy and get her ready for her 10.30ish feed). He is well up for doing that feed when I get my arse (or should that be my breasts...) in gear and start expressing.

He has also been so so lovely about my achievement with the b'fing. I totally struggled the last two times with it - DD and DS never gained weight properly despite continuous feeding and took 6 weeks to regain birth weight etc etc. And this time - despite DD2 dropping over 10% by Day 3 and I am very proud of the fact that as of today (4 weeks) she has gained a total of 790 grammes - 1lb 10 ozs. For me this is so unprecedented and I am so happy that I have finally (third time) managed to feed my baby the way I ideally wanted. (and this is not to upset those who have had to give up early -as I totally understand that having gone through it twice).

The commune is shaping up - our bean counter ZJ lots of lovely pizza, LadyT did you use to be a cox on a boat (or did I imagine that?) It would be just like the BBC reality thing Castaway does anyone remember it. My (exceedingly dodgy) claim to fame is that I was at Uni with the guy with the red curly hair (Padraig) and snogged him once when very drunk and stood him up the next day (I am still friends with him tho!).

Arti lol at not saying how you know LadyT. I get that - you feel a bit weird to say its someone you met online (I felt that when I had to explain to the midwife in hospital how I knew Kim !!)

Right, another Tesco's Finest ready meal awaits...

Turniphead1 · 27/01/2009 20:13

where is fattie thread? Although am drinking wine and have just called DH to say I NEEED a big bar of Green and Blacks.

Oooh - Grand Designs back on on Wed. Kevin McCloud. You would, wouldn't you (or is it just me?)

EffiePerine · 27/01/2009 20:21

cat: that is v interesting about waiting and listening when T cries. Think the principle of taking a step back when tension is escalating is a good one.

Yes Turnip I would!!!

Its a good thing I know we haven't had sex yet or I would think I could be pg. I am really craving egg mayonnaise. I have had it 3 times in the last week. I have just made some(with low fat mayo). I can't even remember the last time I had it.

JamInMyWellies · 27/01/2009 20:53

Hi all, just popping in where does the time go?!

Have had a quick skim.

Wanted to respond to the toddler thing we too have a bit of a jekkyl and hyde at the mo one min lovely the next a right royal pain in the arse. I have been trying to keep as much as poss to our reg routine so that he still goes to mums & tots and gym etc. Also trying really hard not to loose my rag when he is being spirited.

Will not be joining you on the weight loss thread not beacause I dont have about a stone to lose but I am incapable of sticking to a healthy eating plan . But good luck.

OOh Turnip Kevin Mcloud yes please.

Lal fab cake.

Well this is the second night I have got DS2 down early. It takes forever though. get DS1 in bed for 7.30 then it takes about an hour to feed him and get him down. We are going to try give him a bottle for his dream feed as last night he barely licked my nipple and refused to latch on as he was in such a deep sleep hence he woke at 1 and again at 4 so fingers crossed by tanking him up with a bottle it means he might only wake once.

Is anyone a fan of Shameless new series begins tonight Frank Gallagher is a genius.

zoejeanne · 27/01/2009 20:58

turnip I was discussing Kevin McCloud with my sis just last week - I wouldn't, but she would. I would with Phil Spencer (location location) though

lal that cake is fab!

cat I've been re-reading the baby whisperer this week, especially the bits on baby body language, and she recommends standing back briefly to read the situation. According to her, you will get better and quicker and reading babe's signals, so it won't take anytime when you get the hang of it - but so much easier said than done. (If you were one of the people who said you'd read BW, then sorry to babble on, I can't remember who read what from the earlier discussions)

Bedtime approaching for the little one, I'm hoping for a good night as DH is away, but DD slept for 6 whole hours last night I'm not confident in getting a repeat. Hoping for lots of sleep for of us, night night x

kayzr · 27/01/2009 21:45

I have decided I hate our reusable nappies. They leak badly, Dylan gets awful nappy rash, they take forever to dry and I don't like having to touch wee and poo soaked nappies! I just want to cry about it.

Veggiemummy · 27/01/2009 21:59

I am lurking and have lots to say but am completely shattered and typing is just too much like hardwork. But thought I would say a weary hello...Hello (waves wearily with a limp hand)

katie3677 · 27/01/2009 22:00

Sybil I don't get it, I earn under £100k, dont have rental income or have savings, but I still have to file a tax return apparently. Is it because you are newly self employed, or because you didn't earn that much maybe? I earned about £20k in 2007-08, and they are asking me for £5k in tax, which is scaring me.
Sorry, haven't read up to date fully, am finding that there just aren't enough hours in the day anymore, and as I'm aiming to start working properly again next week, there will be even less time for Mumsnetting .
Will try to keep up with you all but may go a bit quiet on the posting front.

kayzr · 27/01/2009 22:04

Veggie Get thee self to bed!!!

Verso · 27/01/2009 23:10

aaaaargh

DH agreed to do the early part of tonight... I am supposedly asleep in the living room. Took ages to get to sleep because neighbours have TV on LOUD (I went to bed at 8:30pm to try to get some benefit from DH doing a bottle tonight). Have now been awake again for half an hour listening to DD2 SCREAM. DH took ages to hear her (she's in the moses basket next to his bed), and now she's beside herself so I think he's having trouble getting her to take the bottle.

Aaaaargh. It's taking all my strength NOT to go dashing upstairs and take over. I know that if I do that he will never do another night. It's SO hard listening to her scream like this though...

We had a fab day today too. After yesterday's awfulness she has been SO settled and smiley today, so I don't understand why she's in such a state. She's usually easier at night, even if slightly restless and a noisy sleeper it's rare for her to really cry like this

(Tried putting ear plugs in but I can still hear her!!)

Weight was fine, btw - 24oz in last three weeks, which I thought was great, 8oz a week, even though she's been poorly! - but no, the HV decided to give me a hard time about her not sleeping through yet . Harrumph!

Verso · 27/01/2009 23:12

veggie >waves< hope you're ok.

Olipop · 28/01/2009 07:20

Hope you are ok veggie...you sound shattered.
Verso...that is a nightmare. I remember with DS, if I had handed over responsibility I could sleep through any level of crying! It was really strange (although I was already asleep sothat is different). It is heartbreaking to hear your baby cry though. It physically hurts so my heart goes out to you. Well done on the weight and give that ridiculous HV a kick. My 3 yr old still doesn't sleep through! DH was up 3 times with him last night...Heidi only woke me twice!!!!!

Lal - well done on the cake!!! You are right to be proud!

SybilFaulty · 28/01/2009 07:26

Hope you got some rest, veggie, you sounded exhausted. Am thinking of you.

Back in a minute, sorry - children loom.

Verso · 28/01/2009 08:57

Rest of the night was pretty rubbish. Am exhausted. So much for DH giving me a break! I wish I'd just done it all myself and then at least I wouldn't have disappointment as well as tiredness to deal with. Also have weird joint pain coming back again... had this post-DD1 and GP was very non-plussed. Tested for arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia etc etc but all negative. Told me to come back once I'd finished having children because "some treatments for joint pain are incompatible with pregnancy"... hmm. Despite the rubbish night and exhaustion not sure I'm done having babies yet! But I'M SORE!!

(rant rant rant - sorry)

See? This is why I wasn't posting for a while - don't want to bring the thread down. Erk.

kayzr · 28/01/2009 09:37

Verso Sorry about your night and your joints. Don't worry about moaning to us, it is what we are here for!!!

DS1 was up again last night. It is so much harder when he gets up. With DS2 we just give him a bottle and he goes back to sleep. We just had to keep taking DS1 back to bed about 9 times. We're going to my mums later so I am hoping he will get worn out playing with the dogs.

My SIL had a little girl yesterday, we found out via facebook. DH is a little bit upset that no one bothered to ring him.

A big hello to everyone.

Verso · 28/01/2009 09:40

btw - Kevin McCloud yes please! (am sure have confessed to this previously).
kayzr sorry you had a disturbed night too.

traceface · 28/01/2009 09:44

verso - you're not bringing the thread down. it's good to talk type

think i'm going to try to express today. no desperate need but i feel like i want to know if i can!

am a little traumatised this morning. my jeans which had been in the 'can fit back into them' category have today had to return to the 'can't fit back into them' category. Am putting weight on! I know I've been using BFing as an excuse to eat like a pig. Probably shouldn't bother me but have been feeling a bit low for a few days so it's just adding to it.

veggie - hope you got some rest and are feeling better

JamInMyWellies · 28/01/2009 10:30

Veggie did you get some sleep?

Verso dont worry we are all here to share the ups and the downs.

Kayz hows your DH job situation?

Traceface bloody post preggo bodies. I too was back in my fat jeans and now they are too tight again but weirdly have not gained any more weight. Its the godforsaken muffin top.

Tis pishing down here and I have to take the hound out for a walk.

Is anyone elses bubbas super farty. DS2 is so bad he is doing proper man trumps am sure he would win a loudest longest fart contest. Is there anything I can do to make him less wind pops?

Oh and up twice again once for 2hrs I really hope the dream feed starts making a difference soon.

kayzr · 28/01/2009 10:35

We find out today Jam I am dreading it!!

JamInMyWellies · 28/01/2009 10:36

Kayz ((((hugs))))

OP posts:
traceface · 28/01/2009 10:37

phoebe is farty too! she seems grumpy today but then so do I so I can't really complain.
She was up a few times too, despite the dream feed - looks like Monday night was a fluke!
Have got as far as sterilising the breast pump and putting batteries in it... not sure when to try to express though. don't want to empty myself and deprive her, but don't want to stimulate and produce gallons so i go all hard!
need to go to boots and asda but feel very reluctant to leave the house today. the school run used all my motivation up!

JamInMyWellies · 28/01/2009 10:49

Trace are you giving P a bottle as her dream feed? We gave L formula for his df. My dsis has my medela must get it back.

OP posts:
traceface · 28/01/2009 11:03

well we've just tried for the past 3 nights giving her a feed at about 10.30 - my friend suggested it. She seems to stay pretty much asleep and feeds then goes back to sleep straight away. Night 1 she then slept till 2.30, then fed at 6, night 2 she slept till 3.30 then fed at 7, night 3 she slept till 1.30 then 4.00 then 5.30 then stayed awake till next feed at 7.30! Seems a bit hit and miss at the mo. DH said he'd do the 10.30 feed by bottle if I wanted to get a good stretch of sleep so thought I'd give it a try. Am not really keen because am happy BF, but we'll see what happens. I just expressed from right boob- had fed her from it at 9.30 - got about 1oz. No idea about whether that's ok! Would get more from a full boob but then how does that work with her feeds? It's odd - with dd1 I had to express for 2 months while she was in special care and I used to get a good 4 oz each time, but that was a posh expresser not a little hand held jobby!
