Wow Pigley, thats good, esp in the current climate! good luck.

M2L we were both wrong - googled it and it said

The term ?Irish twins? is used to describe two children born to the same mother within 12 months of each other or born in the same calendar year.

Well Bethany is 26 weeks today we celebrated by giving her some banana yoghurt (Rachels First Yoghurt it's only organic whole milk and fruit puree no sugar or nasties, the best one I could find I used to do my own but too lazy now) and crumpet which she picked up and stuffed into her own mouth. I'm quite happy with this feet in both camps feeding thing, finger foods and puree at every meal, maybe I could come up with a name for it Undecided Weaning, bit of both weaning, making it up as I go along weaning?

Officially 6 months on Thursday

Registering DD1 at school tomorrow [sob] I always wondered how the English system worked and why everyone went on about Summer babies being at a disadvantage. In Scotland the school year runs from March to February the following year, so DD1 with a July birthday will go at 5.1yo, DD2 however, will go at 4.7yo, in the one class you could have 5.6yo's with 4.6yo's IYSWIM. I was getting all confused as some of DD1's baby group mates have started school already (she was born in England) and she hasn't.

Isaidno - Bethany grumpy today she woke at 5am this morning with an exploding poo, went back at 6.30am to 8am (argh late), had about 20 mins at toddlers and that has been it, she will be so grumpy tonight.

Pigley - fingers crossed, watch as much House Doctor and Selling Houses as you can.

purplejenny - well done to you DD , you remember me potty training DD2 well her pull up has been dry in the morning for the past 5 or so nights too, I am not tempting it still putting one on her just now until I run about of the last pack then we will see, cannot be doing with wet beds at 4am.

disney - Samuel sounds so fiesty a man that knows his own mind.

Right best ne off the DDS are annoying me to go decorate the cakes that are cooling!

Did a quick catch up! Congrats M2L!

Gave up on baby rice...P hated it!! Tried some banana today....loved it, if you give her stuff to handle it usually ends up on floor!!!!

Was going to cook up some apple & some carrots, how long can they stay in freezer for? I know P is considered young for weaning (23 weeks nearly) but she swipes at food and watches you eating like a little vulture!

MS still not great but feeling more 'me' every day. My mum has come to stay so am enjoying the company!!! Love to all xx

hi guys hope youve all had a good day

just wondered if any of your babies have showed a fear reaction or similar

tonight samuel was in his chair just watching me bustle about as usual and was very happy until the dog walked in

as soon as he saw her he screamed and shook with a reaction like fear

he was unconsolable until i took him out and put the dog in another room

thought it was a one off so i called her back in and he did the same thing

just wondered if they usually do this at 6 mths i honestly cant remember with the others

hes also started to grab with both hands now and loves pulling my hair

isaidno we were thinking of going to frankies at the weekend would you reccomend it?

A used to react like that to the kung-fu hamster.
uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TeiqYneKNbQ
but seems to have outgrown that now, which is a little bit of a shame as it was VERY funny.

The pulling hair thing A does love as well, especially if it's mummys hair!

MinnieMummy · 13/01/2009 21:25

Much hair pulling here to, along with raspberry blowing (often at the end of a feed while still attached, hmmm!) and making a sound that I can only describe as a roar - but a happy one! Obviously we're used to it but a few other people have wondered what the hell she's doing!

SK The Book says not to combine spoon and BLW because it will confuse them or something... but I'm essentially doing that too. The way I see it, she is so interested in food, launches herself at it when she sees some, likes gumming stuff if it gets in the vicinity of her mouth, just not very good at picking things up yet, so I see me putting food on my finger for her as just enabling her a bit. I'm getting a Bumbo tray tomorrow so that should hopefully make things easier.
It's all very well saying 'wait til they are ready' but I need some more sleep!! Especially with a toddler to deal with.

Think you can freeze things for about 3mths?

I'm thinking of having my hair cut short because of the pulling!

Disney - we love Frankie's and Benny's - I love the pasta carbonara, and dh likes the steak menu. The kids menu is fab - there are 2 portion sizes and has pasta, pizza and the usual burger / nuggets / chips combos. The kids price includes a drink, goody bag and ice cream. I don't think it's too expensive - our bill on Sunday came to £40 - that was for a garlic bread starter we all shared, pasta for me, calzone for dh, 2 kids meals, orange juice, 2 pints, a cup of tea and an Irish coffee. Poppy had the veg which came free with the kids meals. (I think you can get free baby food too.)

As for fear, Poppy has definitely become more sensitive to noise lately. She also notices when I leave the room - cue crying / shouting / general moaning depending on her mood.

Phew what a day!- Ended up with 4 views this afternoon! Not even on the market 24 hours so pretty good going.

First two were time wasters but the second two viewings went well and one spoke of a second viewing on Saturday.

Ive booked to view a house on saturday too.

Abigail was slightly puzzled by all these different people in and out of her house- bless her.

My head is now mush...Houses houses houses! arrgghh

Abigails a hair puller too! Think I might have to tie my hair up now as she has quite a tug!

We for the 50% off Pizza Hut voucher from MN so are off there this weekend, I prefer Pizza Express but 50% off cannot complain.

Isaidno - I am thinking of getting my hair cut into a bob, don't suit it any shorter than shoulder length, I think it would be easier to deal with, I'm fed up with it and the hair pulling is a big thing too, I'm also surprised I have any hair left the amount that has fallen out I think a good haircut might spring some zing back into it. I usually have it scrapped back into a ponytail

minniemummy - I'm confused about the book saying it will confuse them because surely even a puree only baby will start to get finger foods eventually, I did both with the other two and they were fine, I found that they both started to refuse the spoon and wanted to feed themselves all the time and this was about 7-8 months. I kept the spoon so they could have cereal, yoghurt and soup everything else they ate themselves. B had broccoli and carrot for dinner, sucked on a carrot baton and loved it. Her nappies will be fun tomorrow though.

disney - aww poor Sam isn't it funny how you know immediately what is a very upset cry to a normal cry?

bebe - glad you are feeling a bit better, re the weaning I started B at about 24 1/2 weeks and there are others on here a lot earlier and on MN as well (as the weaning fight threads will testify too) and also remember 5 odd years ago it was 4 months. I'm not saying that should sway you, it's a very personal decision when you wean your baby but I don't think you will be flamed on here. I usually make enough for 3-4 meals and freeze it lasts about a week or two. I think a month at least would be fine. I remember with PFB DD1 with my new blender, ice cube trays, Annabel Karmel book, I made enought fruit puree to last 6 months!

Report
Isaidno · 13/01/2009 22:23

bebe - don't make too much at once as you will want it to get lumpier as weaning progresses! I remember having loads of smooth carrot puree, and having to mix it 50 / 50 with newer batches so it had more lumps.

Also for those first time mums doing the ice cube thing - please realise you can take the cubes out of the tray once frozen and put them in bags - I had a friend who bought about 20 ice cube trays and filled her freezer with them!

SK - my hair's not quite long enough for a ponytail, I keep shoving it behind my ears instead, which I hate! Then Poppy garrots me with my necklace, while pinching my bingo wings.

Isaidno - I gave up necklaces a long time ago, and what about when they gouge (is that the correct spelling) your cheek with their fist ouch, B likes to stick her fingers up you nose too.

I never puree the lumps completely out and don't use ice cube trays too much faff I just put the extra in little pots.

We've got the pulling hair thing here too! Sam has yet to show any signs of fright, but Oli used to get frightened by the stupidest of things and then not be the next time he saw it/them! odd.

We've been and got DS1's glasses today, he looks very cute in them and it's not been that hard getting him to keep them on TBH, which I thought it would be.

A other trick is to put his hand in my mouth and pull on my lip, I suppose the answer to that one is to keep my mouth closed but I talk to him all day.

Re: The hair thing, apparently it's the law that you have to get it cut before you go back to work. I used to have a just above shoulder bob which I loved but now my hair is quite long (been to the hairdresser once in 12 months). My DH prefers my hair long. I know we should dress to please ourselves not our men yadda yadda yadda but part of me thinks if he likes it (and he has to look at me) I should keep it. The other part of me thinks I should keep it long as I am still carrying extra weight around the face and I think my shorter style will just emphasis that. decisions decisions.

A SLEPT FROM 11PM to 6AM FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT. He's exactly 6 months old today

Also I think your have to have balls of steel to do BLW I have just watched A gag and then vomit thru his mouth and noise and I only gave him some banana/apple puree on a rice cake to suck off. (I think he has a cold tho as well)

libra - I am on baby 3 - I'm sure blw with a pfb can be quite scary! Poppy has had some gagging, but she's been ok. I can see a big difference in the last few days (she's 30 wks today) in how well she can handle food, so am confident it's working for us.
Congrats on the big sleep!

Isaidno, I wasn't criticising BLW, as it's something I am keen to do (as long as my nerve holds!) just that for a first-timer it can be pretty scary! I am still a little worried that the nursery won't keep a close enough eye on him at meal times.

I also can't believe the number of mis-spellings in that post!

god,its the hair pulling and also the earrings. i have always loved big earrings and hoops but now i am wearing small studs so i don't get my ears ripped off or scratch the little lady.

the hair thing is annoying but i refuse to cut it in case i really look mumsy. i know a couple of women with mixed-race curly hair like mine who cut it short post-birth to be "practical". not up for the small fro myself. also, still getting down to my fighting weight - in the meantime, the bigger the hair, the better!

in a way, long hair is versatile in that you can put it in a bun or ponytail, which is how mine is most of the time.

well, hate to admit it but i am in the process of losing the dummy again. Day 2 and she really fights it for her morning nap, lunchtime is better and last night she slept from 8 until 6.47. I know some people thinks its mean (my mum, for example) but she doesn't have to get up to replace it at 4am.
The process is horrible and stressful but hope by tomorrow, she won't miss it much and she has a lovely new blankie which i have "worn" for a while, so she's cuddling that while she sleeps now.

I think doing finger foods and purees from the get-go is a bit confusing for them but they eating learning curve is much steeper and they get up to speed quickly. Last week, I noticed that Elodie doesn't open her gob up like a little bird for the spoon, unlike the other babies in my mum's group. She is pretty deft with a rice cake though. This week, if she likes the puree/mash, she will open her mouth but she does like to hold the spoon or a veggie or something. This morning she had porridge with grated apple and yoghurt whilst waving a rice cake around.

She is doing the vilest poos now - stinky, stiff and quite often. In fact, yesterday i noticed her bum was quite red, which is either the poos or the cheap wipes by dh bought. She is slavered in bepanthen or sudocrem now. My dh also bought pull-ups for her -wtf?? Such a pain.

Now a good day yesterday - sore bum, no dummy and then i put her in her massive pram and was fiddling underneath putting in bottles for the recycle bin when the whole top carry cot part came off and toppled back and she didn't have the harness on! Poor little thing rolled into the canopy bit, upside down and was scared but unhurt but if that had happened outside, would have been nasty! God, feel sick just thinking about it.

I am forcing myself out today. I live opposite the Danish National Art Museum and never go there. There is a kiddy part so I am going to take her in the baby carrier for a bit of outside world and stimulation.

I've been feeling a little down lately probably due to the date of my return to work is getting closer and closer.....and it's making me think...probably too much

When I was pg with my first ds almost 17 years ago my mum gave me a cutting from the paper.....there was a bit of a story to it but the best quote that I never forgotten was this.............

The time will come too quickly
when those little arms that tug,
Wont ask for you to hold them
or so freely give a hug.
The day will sneak up subtly,
Just as it did with me,
When you wont recall the last time
your child sat on your knee.
Like those sacred pre-dawn feedings,
when we cherished time alone,
Our babies grow and leave behind
those precious times we've known.

{blush] Time really does go so fast!!!

Oh Minipink, thats made my cry! I'm feeling abit about not having anymore anyway! THey are both at a lovely age now DS1 is 2.4 and can communicate really well, so doesn't throw half as many tantrums and he's so kissy and cuddley at the moment I wish I could just bottle him up and keep him like that forever, he;s also so funny and keep crackingjokes and being sarcastic with a little smile, I just want to laugh at him all day, and Sam is just so laid back and just loves being in the thick of it, he giggles the loudest for DS1, I can see something like the 'Kray Twins' in my future!!! (at last the loved their ma!)

TJ I hope she's OK, I bet you were more scared than she was! How horrid. My boys get nappy rash quite badly when I use cheap wipes, but it soon clears up. Have a nice day out. Sam doesn't really open his mouth for spoon feeds, but will quite happily take a fully loaded spoon to his mouth. I started him on purees this week as he was starting to wake up 2-3 times in the night for a feed, so I thought he wasn't getting enough with the BLW, so mix it all up now and he's been going 12 hours, which he has very rarely done in the past!

Pigley wow on the house viewings! Fingers crossed for you. Is this a sign that number 2 might be on the way?

Hi girls. I'm feeling eugh today. my period came yesterday, and I swear I'm having over a years worth in one period. it's almost worth getting pregnant again to avoid them!!!

About the feeding issue. What a load of tosh. BLW 'purists' and 'the book'. Do what seems right for you and your baby. SK, we're doing a mixture of mush and finger food (I'm not calling it BLW!), and Ed is fine, not confused at all. happily had apple/pear/rice mush for breakfast then about half a slice of toast. did the same for the girls with no confusion issues. (sorry if I've offended anyone!!)

He's big, 18lb 10oz at 6 months, in 6-9 clothes and some 9-12 (but is in big cloth totsbots size 2 nappies), and happy, but notices when I leave the room and cries for me now. He's also been to nursery for 1/2hour and was fine, it's noisy and lots of people around so he should be OK. I'm quite looking forward to going back to work. Have just bought a mini medela electric pump from ebay, so will try with that and continue breastfeeding for as long as poss.

congrats to mama2leah (and bump). We are thinking of either moving or extending, but it all seems too stressful at present!!! Cass

Weaning is progressing well here, I am doing the traditional route of purees and quite enjoying it. Bryony loves food and opens up her little mouth for the next mouthful. I have given her some finger foods too, she's quite good with a rusk, but got very frustrated with carrots and broccoli as she wasn't getting enough in!

SK, I quite like freezing individual purees in ice cube trays as I then have lots of possible different flavour combinations by using a couple of cubes of each flavour IYSWIM.

Also, I know someone said they liked bypassing the baby food aisle in the supermarket, but I quite enjoy browsing and picking out new things for her to try. I'm hoping to find out which flavours she likes so I can then make them myself, rather than be left with loads of stuff she won't eat (I remember pureeing most of a pumpkin for dd1 and she refused to touch it!)
