mcchesers · 01/02/2009 17:22

Ooh the new layout is slick, eh? So much going on...thinking of you Disney and baby Jessica. Please keep us posted. It's so scary when you can't do anything. xx

We're still planning for move and getting rid of all sorts of stuff that we no doubt do not need nor are willing to pay to ship. Our flights are booked for the 19th!! so hopefully everything will be finalized by the time our move out date comes on the 16th.

Aidan is eating dinner, can't seem to get lunch in, but am persevering.and breakfast isn't going so well. He takes a bit of water from a sippy cup, but isn't too into finger foods just yet (Just his feet). So it's mostly milk and I'm trying to cut out more and more. I envy you girls with a routine. We get up..stuff happens..we go to bed, and get up a few times for milk. Our health visitor said he looked fine and just to leave things as they are until we can get settled in the states. makes sense. He's hardly wasting away at 22lbs. sheesh!

We've got so much riding on this move, I just hope it all goes smoothly. Also on the MIL note..she doesn't want to see us off because she says she'll just greet. Not really sure what to do then as she doesn't want us to come the night before either. Any ideas?

smudge123 · 01/02/2009 18:50

disney hope Jessica gets well soon

M2L congrats on the pregnancy.

Hope all the babies are doing well

sweetkitty · 01/02/2009 20:45

Evening all feeling a wee bit glum tonight, one of my cats is missing, well it's a long story but basically DP threw all the cats out on Friday night as one of them had pooed, (I know he shouldn't have done it) but it was only out the back garden and he got 2 in after an hour, one of them is terrible he never comes when called, we have been out every half hour since he has been missing and nothing, I know he is about somewhere, he's scared of the outdoors rarely goes out so won't have wandered off but hate to think of him out in this weather and starving

Then this afternoon we popped out to Argos to change one of DD1's presents, I popped in whilst DP waited in the car with the girls, anyway comes back out and the car won't start completely dead, so we had to phone up the AA and join (again long story DP was supposed to sort out breakdown cover throught his job) £115, but they were only 45 mins as we told them we had a baby in the car. Luckily we were stuck in the retail park so ended up in McDonalds (girls were happy). Turns out DP had knackered the battery or something so car is fine.

Oh and I bought all these veggies to make B some purees and my blender has died tried her with finger foods tonight but she wasn't overly fussed that and mashed potato but loved the yoghurt, she is getting fussy already!

Oh and my clothes airer broke and a light, oh well onwards and upwards could always be worse.

Poledra · 01/02/2009 20:52

OMG, SK sounds like it's wine o'clock for you tonight. What a dreadful day. Hope things get better tomorrow

ponto · 01/02/2009 21:25

Poledra and sweetkitty, can't belive you get the same split skin at the end of your thumbs, I have it too! It happens every winter, it's the cold dry air that does it to me. What helps is keeping my hands dry (rubber gloves, like you said Rumpel), then putting on moisturiser (I like Vaseline intensive care) every time I do get my hands wet. I've tried 'liquid plaster' from Boots too, it sounds like a similar type of thing to what you use sk, but it's not that effective. I have heard Superglue recommended somewhere, but not tried it as I'm afraid it would sting!

Bad mummy alert - Bryony fell off the sofa today . I had sat her in the corner and just nipped into the kitchen to get something, when I returned a few seconds later I was just too late to stop her wriggling onto the floor. No obvious bruises though and she did calm down and eat her tea, so no harm done, thank goodness. I feel really bad though as only this morning I'd said to dh that he must stop leaving her on the sofa as she is getting more mobile.

First tooth appeared today, I can feel it but not see it as she will not open her mouth for me to look, just bites my finger!

Mama2leah, vomiting after cheese as well as milk does sound suspicious of a problem with dairy, I think if it was me I'd leave it a week and try again then, if it happens again see your GP/HV as she may need a referral to a dietician or allergy specialist.

sweetkitty · 01/02/2009 22:07

poledra - no wine in the house unfortunately and we cosleep so can't get rip roaring drunk or even little bit tipsy

ponto - the little cuts are so sore aren't they, I have been using Vaseline Intesive Care as well

Poledra · 01/02/2009 23:29

Hi All

Rumpel thanks for the tips. I always wear rubber gloves as cleaning stuff knackers my skin. I've just started taking an omega 3,6 supplement, mainly so O gets them but glad to know it should help my skin. I've also got some mackerel in the fridge to make risotto tomorrow, so it's a multi-pronged attack! Oh, and I've ordered avocados in my veg box Can you tell that the pain of these stupid cuts is really bothering me?

Isaidno why do men do these stupid things? I lose sympathy for DH when he says he's ill, goes off to bed early then lies there watching DVDs till after I've come to bed and gone to sleep. He laughs at me because my sure for all ills is a nice hot bath and early to bed but it bloody works. He does comment on the fact that I don't seem to get as ill or be ill as often as he does but doesn't seem to put the two things together.

SK shame about the wine. I'm still co-sleeping too, but do allow myself the indulgence of an occasional glass with a nice meal, like today's roast. I reckon it's well out my system by the time I go to bed and it's not like I'm drunk. Actually, just had a chat with DH re the co-sleeping. I was feeling like it was time that O was in her cot full-time, but was making myself and her upset trying to do this. I was sitting on the bed weeping the other night as she woke for the third time in 20 minutes. Gave in, took her into our bed and she settled in minutes. AM going with the thought that she'll not still be sleeping with us at 16. Said this to DH tonight and he laughed and said the very idea would probably make her feel nauseous if we told her about this conversation at 16! Orlaith has been sleeping well tonight, and actually woke up, moaned for a little bit then put herself back over - that's a first for us .

Disney, hope Jessica is doing better. Your daughter is lucky to have such a strong, loving mother as you close by.

Mcchesers, sorry, no ideas on the MIL front but glad to hear things are going well on the moving front. You'll still pop in and see us though, won't you?

Off to bed now. Night all, hope everyone gets a good night's sleep.

Poledra · 01/02/2009 23:31

....my cure for all ills...

mama2leah · 02/02/2009 10:55

thats wat i am tinking..

i also wanted to ask u guys, do u feed before u give food?

Isaidno · 02/02/2009 17:47

well DH needs an operation to drain a massive fluid swelling in his bollock.
So he is off sick for at least 2 more weeks. Luckily he has private health cover through his job so can get the op privately and therefore more quickly. Feel more sympathetic towards him today - I know he is bored, frustrated and very uncomfortable. beginning to wish he'd never bothered with the vasectomy.

mcchesers - hope your plans are going well xxx

Hello I am finally back on line properly at some point I will try to catch up. You would not believe the size Kez is now

Poledra · 02/02/2009 20:29

Woo-hoo, welcome back Kaz. You do realise it's going to take you about 3 weeks to catch up, don't you ?

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 02/02/2009 21:02

Just a quickie, ahve a splitting headache and going to bed. Just to say welcome back Kaz! And How's Jess Disney????

pigleychez · 02/02/2009 21:04

Welcome back Kaz

isaidno- Sorry to hear about DH's sore bits!

Im with those of you with poorly hands. No cracks but my hands are always dry at the mo and feel like sandpaper

Lots of snow here today, a good few inches. DH was sent home from work at lunchtime as the snow was getting heavier and they worried that people would be stuck there come 5pm. The official line was to work from home. DH did about an hour on the laptop then gave up.
He was pleased about the snow as it also got him out of going to london this afternoon for a boring conference!
been told to work from home tomorrow too if its still bad.

We ended up going for a second viewing on a house we like. We accepted an offer on our place this morning so its full steam ahead now to find somewhere we want.
We have put an offer on the house this evening.. first one was alittle low and rejected so we upped it and are waiting to hear.
We have offered our max budget so cant go more but neither of us are too hopefull he will accept it. Just have to see what tomorrow brings.

sweetkitty · 02/02/2009 21:24

Evening all have spent the day in the snow, building snowmen, put B at the patio door windows so she could see out but after a while she got bored which was difficult as the other two wanted to be outside playing and B wanted me inside, need to split myself in two I think. Due to lack of blender I bought a few jars of baby food today for lunch, wasn't keen on the savoury main course but oh the sweet one, cried when it ran out.

Last night was quite good only up once at 11 and once about 4ish.

Found the stupid cat as well, quick story, he was hiding in the neighbours playhouse so within calling distance, but wouldn't come out preferred to stay in the freezing cold for 3 whole days, away back safe and sound now.

Poledra - it's nice to hear from someone else still cosleeping, B does start the night in the bedside cot but comes over after her first feed, TBH I love sleeping with her and will miss it, I didn't mean Oh don't have any wine ever like you I will have one or two with a meal but I don't have any in the house usually. As you say plenty of time to sort out the sleeping situation.

M2L - we are on two meals a day right now so I feed B at 10.30-11am then lunch is about 12.30ish then another feed at 2-2.30pm, then feed at 4-4.30pm, dinner at 5.30ish, so meals between feeds IYSWIM

isaidno - ouch your poor DH maybe we shall give him some sympathy after all just a little though, after having 3 children you don't have much sympathy for male illnesses, my DP flinches if you mention anything to do with his wedding tackle area and I say "erm have you squeezed 3 babies through yours no then be quiet!"

kaz - great to hear from you, we have missed you, I bet Kez is doing great, it's gone far to fast isn't it? but too

Jodie - hope you feel better tomorrow x

pigley - fingers and everything crossed for your house x

Catch up later

Poledra · 03/02/2009 09:39

Morning all
Just had to share this little gem of DD2's with you. We were walking back from the shops yesterday, O was asleep in the pram and DD2 was on the buggy board. O woke up and the conversation goes like this

DD2: 'Look Mummy, Orlaith's awake.'
Me: 'Yes, so she is, DD2'
DD2: 'She needs some milk, Mummy.'
Me: 'Yes, she'll get some milk when we get home.'
DD2: 'Get choor boobie out, Mummy!'

Fortunately, the only people in earshot were a couple with a young baby who laughed their heads off. Not quite sure what DD2 expected me to do - walk alongside the pram dangling my breast in so O could have a feed perhaps?

pigleychez · 03/02/2009 13:30

Hello

Bless your DD Poledra

Disney- Glad little Jessica is on the mend.

Well we had our offer accepted today so we have a new house!
Just been making lists of things I want or need to do in each room. I love decorationg so will be in my eliment!
Abigail will get to have a new big bedroom that intend to decorate beautifully for her. Just found some lovely traditional girly furniture for her

Hope everyones well,
The snow is now melting here, how is it for you guys up north?

bebejones · 03/02/2009 15:13

So frustrated today! P will not eat more than 5-6 small mouthfuls of food at each meal even if she is (appears to be) enjoying it. I thought it was when it was no longer warm so tried keeping it warm over water...no difference. Have been trying with finger foods but she loses interest unless i hold them for her. She clearly wants to eat but just is completely stuck in a rut. Had a couple of good days last week where she ate 2 ice cubes worth, but now will barely eat one, & most of that ends up down her face...Am I just expecting too much? It has been 3 weeks of this now, and I don't feel like I am getting anywhere!

On another note, had consult appt yesterday, I have officially got, 'relapsing & remitting MS', so at least it is not progressive, although have been told it can take 2 years to be 'normal' again after an attack!! Had to have more tests coz they lost results! But all in all they are pleased with my progress!

Disney, glad Jessica is on the mend even if they are unsure what caused it.

Kaz1967 · 03/02/2009 18:07

bebejones My Mum has the same form of MS she has had it for nearly 40 years and you would never know to meet her, she has had her bad patches, lost her eye sight it is now back and she is able to drive, but most of her problems have been relating to balance and feeling in her legs she has been unable to walk more than once but now walks every week and rides a bike (I mean 40+ miles a day). She is involved with research in Oxford hospital to see whether exercise helps MS.

The thing she believes has helped her the most so may be worth a try at least is increasing the amount of polyunsaturated fats and decreasing saturated fats, she has never cut saturated fats out totally as like me she is a cheese addict she adds sunflower oil (there are others) to everything and now also takes oil of evening primrose.

Don't worry too much about the eating they have phases as am sure you know they often eat what feels like not enough to feed a baby bird. If it's finger food they want go with it, Kez took a little while to get the idea that she had to put them in her mouth her self now there is no stopping her, I just put bits and pieces ion her tray (a plate gets chucked off along with food on it) and she chops away going between sweet and savoury as she feels. Tonight we have rice cakes with phili, banana, nectarine, hard cheese, kiwi, and cucumber. I do try and feed her breakfast and one other meal if she is being independent (a trait commonly found in girls) I give her a spoon or some finger food, or beaker while I spoon as much as I can in have you tried that? She has never been known to refuse to eat puréed mango or baby yoghurts though LOL

Isaidno · 03/02/2009 18:09

bebe - don't worry; all babies go through phases of eating only a little. Try offering seperate tastes at each meal - eg a cube of carrot and a cube of parsnip so every spoonful is not the same. and don't stress too much - even at a young age they can sense your reaction!

OP posts:
Isaidno · 03/02/2009 18:11

hi kaz - nice to have you back x

OP posts:
Kaz1967 · 03/02/2009 18:37

Oh and Kez often gets thirsty while eating solids gets to the point when she point blank refuses any more food until she has had a drink

Isaidno it's nice to be back
