Amberc · 08/01/2009 09:58

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Josey so funny at the ugly baby! I know we all think it sometimes but aren't brave enough to say it - respect! Hope Oli's tummy is better x

Sponge - dunno what to suggest about carpet burns - I have them on my elbows from lying on the floor with Luke (not from anything more exciting!)so I can imagine the damage it would do to sensitive baby skin. I want some of that foam floor matting and have been looking online for it. There is loads of super cheap stuff on ebay (can't seem to find the Tesco stuff)if you search for interlocking foam tiles but you can't put it down over the whole house! Still the way Alex is going he'll be walking soon!!

Amberc · 08/01/2009 09:59

Five - what?! You have a lovely girl in your attic???? Are you talking about a ghost or am I going mad?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/01/2009 10:07

A ghost.

spongebrainbigpants · 08/01/2009 10:16

josey, PMSL at ugliest baby ever! Having said that friends of mine had a really ugly baby but he's seven now and absolutely gorgeous! Some babies just don't suit being babies IYSWIM?!

deb, thank you . [proud mummy emoticon]

HH, lol at your dh making Isaac watch Alex! I'm so impressed with what Isaac can eat with his fingers - I tried to give mash to Alex yesterday to eat with his hands and he just didn't have a clue! Manages anything that's finger food shaped but haven't progressed past that really .

Oh thank you for praying for me Essie . Made me laugh actually cos it reminded me of when we were ttc and dh was working for IBM. His team manager was v god-fearing Christian and had our name down on his prayer group list for both of our cycles, which of course both ended in m/c. Dh and I decided that, as we are both hardened atheists god clearly didn't want any more of our sort populating the world and was stepping into ensure this didn't happen. We didn't tell his boss about the 3rd cycle and hey presto we have a baby!

Way to go on the tooth, Theo!

5gomad, glad your night was better. I think I must have missed some of your posts cos I'm not really sure what the matter is. Is your little girl struggling with nightmares?

spongebrainbigpants · 08/01/2009 10:20

Oops, x-posted with Amber and 5! Amber, that's the problem with mats at the moment, he is too keen to explore all over for me to keep him in one place. As for the walking, early crawlers can be late walkers cos they are mobile already so don't feel the need to stand on two feet! So he could be rubbing his arms raw for sometime to come!

Btw, hope no one is offended by my comments about praying, etc. Reading it back if you don't know me and my slightly off beat sense of humour it could come across as a bit crass . Sorry if I have offended anyone.

Essie3 · 08/01/2009 10:30

I'm not offended - and glad you're not offended at my comments about atheists, Sponge!

Carpet burn - I had a similar thing where I 'burnt' off the skin on the ball of my shoulder (it was on concrete, and I rugby dived to save a small boy running into a busy main road - look at me all heroic!) and I found giving it lots of air helped to dry it out, but after it had scabbed over, calendula cream (the nelsons one) was the lightest thing I could put on it which soothed.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/01/2009 10:38

sponge very unsettled since she has been ill, keeps saying scary man and pointing to a corner in her room (behind the door so in shadow) she still goes in and looks around the door first but is starting to sleep better, but as we have guests in we have been taking it in turns sleeping on the sofa so she doesn't run through the house screaming.

Now our next dilema, we had DD's name down for our lovely RC primary school, my family have been very involved since it was built, my GF gave the land and money for school and church to be built in 1960's. However the local LEA are proposing a rejig from a 3 tier system to a 2 tier school system, our very local village school will be OK will add 2 more years and have a max intake of 20, the RC school which we had always presumed she would go to as we are RC, is now proposed to be amalgamated with the other primary school in its village with a yearly intake of 60, AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,

josey · 08/01/2009 10:49

Essie you are naughty but I will try and get a pic lol!

The discription you gave is pretty accurate lol!! When I see her I think Alien

I have put up some pic's of Xmas and a stunning pic taken from my bedroom window.

systemsaddict · 08/01/2009 11:27

LOL a friend of mine had a baby who looked exactly like a cross between a small alien and a frog - he is completely gorgeous now though! Your neighbour is clearly completely neurotic Josey, full marks for patience!

We are getting the 'world of wrestling' noises here too, very funny ... V. impressed with Alex' crawling Sponge. Caitlin is extremely wriggly and tries to push up when we do tummy time but nowhere near mobile yet. Ds didn't crawl till 12 months (luxury ) and didn't walk till 19 mths so it will be a shock if she starts a lot sooner ...

5gomad it's so great that DD slept better. Caitlin managed to sleep the evening 7-10 slot again then had a proper feed at 10 and some night wakings for feeding but that's fine, for now. She even cried a bit at 9 but settled herself in seconds. That's three evenings in a row - don't know what to do with the time! (That's a lie actually I have masses to do as we are about to put the house on the market) I am starting to allow myself to hope we might have cracked it!!

Thanks again for the encouragement through the most difficult crying evening. She was crying so hard she was gurgling with all the drool and tears going down her throat, it felt completely wrong. I was so close to giving up but coming on here helped me keep it up for what turned out to be that crucial last few minutes and it was so worth it - she and I are both much happier now.

neenztwinz · 08/01/2009 14:23

Esther does that gurgling her tears thing too Systems - it's harrowing! But I think it definitely gets that bad just as it's about to get better! Well done for sticking with it.

Sponge, I wasn't offended - i thought it was funny you didn't tell your prayer man about your third cycle! (God still knew it was happening though, you do know that, don't you? )

bitofadramaqueen · 08/01/2009 16:12

Afternoon all, have just had a very quick skim. HAving productive day here so will go and carry on with it. Wanted to let you all know that sainsburys have got a 1/3 of all their baby stuff - nappies, toiletries, food etc. Have stocked up on ella pouches and plum stuff for my trip to London.

poppy34 · 08/01/2009 17:49

dear god - I go away for one day and look at all this chat -been into town to get health check for trying again (not quite yet)... got ot start checking ovulation etc (so may need good people like essie's vibes.

essie your post did make me laugh

josey glad oli likes her chair.. your neighbour sounsd like a fruit loop...and amberc is right - I've lost count of ugly babies I've seen (my mother needs to be kept away from my antenatal group lest she repeat some of the frankly libellous things she said about some of the others.

5gomad - glad dd bit better last night

re exploration on the floor (and we're way behind here as she did her first deliberate tummy roll today .. I've got soft mats (old cot duvets) in playpen so put her there.. it is baby jail but she likes it.

better go - bad mummy so busy here that

didn't realise that sophie had been exchanged for a bit of old tissue which is now half eaten so will have to do the "dog" manoeuvre fishing out bits (also used on my dog when he swallowed small bones).

bdq sounds like you're all set.

hedgehog1979 · 08/01/2009 18:20

OMG I have just seen the photo of Ronaldo's car, How did he survive that.

neenz congrats on theo's tooth.

essie LOL at 'sandals and socks'

Very little to report here,

Hope everyone is well. Have had a busy couple of days as DH is off

OP posts:
poppy34 · 08/01/2009 18:28

my dad wears socks and sandals but as far as I know is not in any church.. I'm not sure where that leaves him in the social hierarchy (as far as I'm concerned its better than the cuban heels that were in the wardrobe for years as they may come back into fashion...)

spongebrainbigpants · 08/01/2009 19:06

HH, god see what you mean about the car - is it just me or does it look scarily like the photos of Diana's car wreckage?

I'm guessing he was wearing a seat belt which is why he survived, but I'd love to know what speed he was driving at .

Feeling a bit crap as really struggling with lighter life already and despair at losing the last 3 stone. Have to lose it before IVF though. Why am I such a pig?

spongebrainbigpants · 08/01/2009 19:08

poppy, will be sending you lots of +ve vibes but they'll be godless ones I'm afraid!

neenz, of course, forgot he was omnipresent - although I think us atheists fall below the radar !

spongebrainbigpants · 08/01/2009 19:09

Ooooowwwwww!!!

Alex just bit my toe!!!!

AliandHerScallywag · 08/01/2009 19:28

Hello

Messing around with a new name. Can anyone do any better?

Sympathies Sponge on the LL front. FWIW when we met I thought you looked very trim and was surprised that you have 3 stone to lose.

Poppy - is that the dog that your nickname refers back to? Good luck with the TTC health check. You are very brave venturing there already (I'm certainly not ready yet ).

Poppy you also asked about mash and BLW. I think Peter struggled a bit with picking it up, but he liked it once he got it in his mouth. He seemed to do better with the Shepherd's Pie mash than just ordinary, I think because it had a thin layer of melted cheese on top and that bound it all together a bit better. I had a chav baby food moment today. Discovered that the free jar of Hipp apple and pear that came in the 6 month bounty pack is great spread on rice cakes. I also engaged in some spoon feeding (see, I'm not a zealous BLW type afterall), but Peter grapped hold of the loaded end of the spoon and tryed to scoop it into his mouth. I think I might buy some jars or puree to use as an alternative to adult spreads that go on bread and crackers etc: marmite is too salty, jam is too sweet and honey is verboten (unless you are Essie of course )

Does anyone have any smart ideas on where I could get a cheapish pram or snow suit in a size 9 - 12 months that has feet built into it? It turns out that once you get to 9mths+ pram suits either don't come in that size or they assume that the baby is toddling and needs to have their feet out. I have scoured our local shops and got thoroughly peed off with the sizism that is rife in baby clothing . I also seem to recall that back in August the shops were full of padded pram suits, but now it is freezing there are none.

Essie3 · 08/01/2009 19:48

Ali I like the new name - suits you and Peter too (although he's a very well behaved scallywag from what I've seen). LOL at the sizeism in baby clothes, though! I'm winning all the way with my mini baby. So no idea about the snowsuit. Maybe a plus-size shop? (No, I'm JOKING! ) I could offer to doctor one for you, by sewing on feet. How about mountain shops? I think you can get a Bush Baby one, and I think that's quite big. There you go! (And I'm not hinting with the 'customers who bought this also bought 100 top purees book'!)

I'm having a minor crisis (see the purees thread) about a Hipp Organic Banana Custard jar that Iestyn devoured tonight. The entire 125g jar! Thing is, I wanted him to devour my homemade sweet potato and yellow pepper puree. Or the sausage casserole. But no, he went for the sugary option. Is sugar bad and why? Surely it can't be so awful because they wouldn't sell it, right? (Mind you, they sell formula milk, right Sponge? Yeah yeah, God is watching me, so I'm sorry! )
Also, HH, reassure me - did I read right that Isaac had sticky toffee pudding? That's very sweet, isn't it, and he's ok! Are there rules on sugar in weaning?

Sponge, don't beat yourself up about the weight loss. Have you considered some form of talking therapy? Because I don't think you're a pig at all, but maybe eating for different reasons? (I'm no expert and tell me to go away. But it's a common problem, right? Feel sad/anxious/happy (even), eat something lovely, feel better, then feel guilty.) I'm only saying because in the Times, there was an article on 'think like a thin person' or something similar. I'm not claiming to be a thin person, but I'm someone who has very little interest in food apart from as fuel, and I could tick several of the 'tips', eg if I'm full I just stop eating and waste rather a lot of food. (Of course, I could easily get huge because I don't eat the right foods - but weaning Iestyn helps!) I had a point when I started typing but I haven't got to it and I can't remember it now. So that was quite pointless really!

pleasechange · 08/01/2009 19:55

ali re. the pram suit you're probably best trying ebay. They had quite a few when I looked, both new and used. I know what you mean, I struggled getting 6-9 months but found one in Asda. Have you tried TKMaxx?

Re.spreads, I made some pesto, avocado and hummous (separately, not all mixed together!) this week (I'm not usually this domestic!). He liked the pesto and avocado, but not the hummous. I think it needed some salt as admittedly it was a bit tasteless

sponge - I am a pig with food, I am constantly wanting to eat, so I sympathise with how hard it is

Last night was awful - A woke up every 45 mins all night . I think his ecszema was making him really itchy poor thing

spongebrainbigpants · 08/01/2009 20:21

5gomad, really sorry to hear about your dd btw - that must be so hard for both of you . Poor little mite.

Ali, love the new name! Thanks for saying I look trim - most people are shocked when I say I'm 3 stone overweight (or at least pretend to be, lol! ) but that's the advantage of being tall!

Btw, I use pureed baby food spread on rice cakes so if you're a chav so am I!!!

Essie, step away from the sarcy comments on formula missus or I could get narky! I think the only thing about sugar and weaning is that if you feed them too many sweet foods they will develop a very sweet tooth which will be a problem later in life (I know, I have one!). It's not the imminent danger that salt is if that's what you mean, but sugar is of course empty calories and so should be eaten in moderation. Here endeth the lesson. However, I don't need to worry cos as Alex is ff he's going to be obese by the time he's ten anyway - or so the bf nazis would have us believe!!!

As for my weight, yes, I have considered talking therapy and I think that's something I'm going to consider again. Have just emailed my IVF consultant to ask her advice on the weight thing and need to talk to dh when he's home this weekend. I'm so tired of battling it - and you're right I do eat for any other reason than being hungry. Who was it making jokes about eating disorders earlier?!

spongebrainbigpants · 08/01/2009 20:23

allnew, x-posted, you poor thing - how is he today?

Btw, what time do all your LOs go to bed? A was going at 7pm sharp but have pushed it back til 7.30pm/8pm the last three nights and it's made a world of difference to his sleep (nearly back to sleeping through, 8 - 5.30am last night).

Anyone else found this?

Amberc · 08/01/2009 20:37

Long post alert!

Ali why is Hipp Organic a chav food? I thought it was for posh people 'cos it's organic and more expensive than boots own brand!

I know what you mean about the all in one for 9 months plus. I tried to find one today for Luke as he's so long but they don't exist. I also can't find a winter coat as all the shops are now selling the spring things - argh!!!

BTW - I can't believe we have all overlooked Five's ghost - tell us more five!!! Definitely have that blessing - I would be scared witless - even with a nice one.

Has anyone got any thoughts on the UFO story in the news?

Desperately need advice. As you may remember I am due back at work on 2 Feb full time. I have Luke in nursery 2 full days a week this month to get him ready and used to full days but I am now massively having second thoughts about it all. I went to collect him tonight and I literally got him hime, fed him and put him to bed. This morning I got him up, fed and dressed him and then gave him to Mark while I got dressed. I don't know if I can have that little time with him every day. I just don't know what to do. I need to do a job but there is NOTHING part time - I have been looking on the internet non stop. I also need to have quality time with my baby. I also feel that it would be awful of me to change my mind at this late stage having booted out someone from my maternity leave (who has now found something else) meaning that work will then have to recruit a new person. Am I just having cold feet? Should I give it a try?

poppy34 · 08/01/2009 20:58

amberc its not really chav except if you were going for the true yummy posho food vote it should come in a nice recycyled plastic tub...

I think the cold feet thing is natural -I've had that thought too and I'm some way off going back yet.. I'd give it a go (your need to go back to work is defo there ) and see how it is -if it does get too hard then reconsider. at the end of the day you're bonded and he will be in a routine at a nice nursery (loads of my friends are doing the same as you and their dc are not the worse for it).

ali it wasn't so much a trick of my name sakes as her sisters..and she had jaws like a steel trap (which luckily edie doesn't have yet..)

and amber re the baby gro - have you though about the sock suits that you can get on bumpto3..pricier but solve problem of long legs (or are meant to).

must go - dh has control of the remote and has put river frigging cottage on

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/01/2009 21:06

I am going on a River Cottage course for my birthday
