Hi, just marking my spot as I can't keep up with all the chat at the moment! Mum and dad are here for the week cos dh is in Paris.

Sleeping is hit and miss here which is amazing considering how much A is on the move now - crawled right out of the lounge and down the corridor yesterday much to my parents amazement as the last time they were here three weeks ago he hadn't even started crawling at all!!!

Had a very quick skim of posts - glad christening went well Essie and that you had a small breakthrough with feeding yesterday. Impressed with some of the foods that babies are eating - think I need to be a bit more adventurous! I also saw all the Moldies stuff and thought it was pathetic - if we're mourning the loss of people like cod then I don't get it, I thought she was horrible!!

Hello to everyone else, hope to catch up properly soon at the weekend. Can anyone recommend any good matchsticks for keeping my eyes open?!!

pleasechange · 07/01/2009 10:52

5gomad glad you had a better night

Good to hear from you Laura -although sorry to hear of your bottle woes. I've been weaning A from bf to ff this last couple of weeks and he is just now starting to get used to the bottles (I'm on MAM now). He is possetting a lot. Don't know whether it's the ff or the food - but either way, I'm hoping it's just his tummy getting used to it rather than an allergy

puree you've just reminded me of tax return - keep putting it off!

I'm another one wrapping DS up loads in this weather. When we're co-sleeping I have him under the duvet a bit as it feels to unfair to have him on top when it's freezing.

Woohoo - we had a 4 hour sleep last night!! That is the longest sleep he's had since he was 3 months!

poppy34 · 07/01/2009 10:56

glad to hear things easing up with dd for you 5gobad (sorry couldn't resist - and hope you've been tuning into the archers for some light relief).

pearls am with you on tax return - have been trying to sort out doing it online since november but tax lot are rubbish... very bad of me really since its my job...

sponge wow at crawling... we don't even get rolling onto front here - she is defo more a talker than a walker

PenguinProject · 07/01/2009 11:06

Hello! Just marking my place on the thread. Realised that working FT and trying to keep up with posts is hopelessly unrealistic, but will pop back regularly. Hope everyone is ok.

BTW - If anyone is on Twitter, send me a message, I'm badjelly on there.

spongebrainbigpants · 07/01/2009 11:14

poppy, typical girl then?!

PP, what's Twitter?

poppy34 · 07/01/2009 11:15

hiya penguin - nice to hear from you (and I can't keep up and I'm not back FT yet). twitter is a bit like facebook for trendy people Hedgehog

and yes she is a typical girl I think..also seems to enjoy tv A LOT (lipstick jungle nearly as popular as baby einstein)

PenguinProject · 07/01/2009 11:17

Hi Sponge! See here: twitter.com/home

It's kind of like the status thing on facebook. However my IT dept has banned FB, MN, Gmail, Hotmail, etc... and it's the only "social" site I can access.

spongebrainbigpants · 07/01/2009 11:20

Lol at FB for trendy people! I better stay away then - definitely not trendy!

What is lipstick jungle?! Is that baby tv for trendy people?!!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 07/01/2009 11:35

sponge Lovely that Alex is crawling. DS can shuffle backwards which really frustrates him!

I feel totally rejected this morning! DD started school yesterday and today she wouldn't let me go in with her as she wanted to go in with her best froend who sarted in september. Then I took DS for his trial sssion at the gym's creche and he was really happy though so tired he kept nodding off in the toys! My children don't need me anymore!!!!

poppy34 · 07/01/2009 11:36

PP I'm gobsmacked my work hasn't done the same..given their constant rants re productivity seems a no brainer but far be it from me to point this out.

sponge its like sex in city but older types - on living and VERY addictive in a brothers and sisters, dirty sexy money type way. so basically tv for slummy mummy

bitofadramaqueen · 07/01/2009 12:30

Quick post - just remembered to mention that S finally got a baby einstein dvd at Christmas. How did I survive without one so long!!!! . It was the symphony of fun one - can anyone recommend any good other ones? Not that I'm planning to sit him in front of a dvd all day...

PP I've had a look on twitter before because I like computery stuff, but I dont really get the point of it? As in I dont understand it, not why on earth do you use it IYSWIM

spongebrainbigpants · 07/01/2009 12:33

poppy, I love Dirty Sexy Money but don't get Living so don't know Lipstick Jungle.

going, at kids not needing you - although I'd rather have that then a child who clung to my leg and sobbed every time I walked out of the room! (I still do that to my mum of course but only when I'm tired!! )

BDQ, a couple of my NCT friends got a boxed set for Christmas from Amazon I think. It's weird isn't it?!

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 07/01/2009 12:52

I have lipstick jungle on Sky+. I watch it in the daytime when I am feeling v slummy. I am behind though so looking forward to lots of catch up episodes.

I am very excited because P has mastered the art of eating Cheerios. I bought them because RL friends with slightly older U1s seem to feed them so I assumed they must be good. Got home to realise that they have more salt than our bread . Day 1 and P just bashed his fists on then turning them to dust. Day 2 and he was picking them up between index and middle finger. Day 3 and I could see an embyonic pincer grip swinging into action. I think it will be a while before he is eating enough that I have to worry about the salt though.

I am definitely not cool enough for twitter. I don't really understand facebook and just collect friends on there.

needahand · 07/01/2009 14:13

very quick one from me.

eczema sufferers the salve I use on DS that is wonderful is called purepotion there is a website www.purepotions.co.uk/

I hope it helps

poppy34 · 07/01/2009 14:55

BDQ we've got a baby einstein collection here (bad mummy..)

faves are baby van gogh, baby neptune, baby da vinci (think this is a US one) and baby noah.

not so popular (but still ok) are language nursery, baby beethoven and baby mozart (teh last two were favourites at first but puppet count too low in them).

also baby oxbridge (UK imitation good) -learn to speak, my first dvd and fairy tales

all from amazon..

put them on after tea before bath when she is bad tempered and works a charm every time getting her nicely wound down.

Lin06 · 07/01/2009 15:50

A belated happy new year all. If Baby Einstein makes you a bad Mummy, I'm another bad mummy. Brrr these last few nights have been cold. Just resorted to sleeping T in a growbag and a fleecy suit. T is now starting to eat solids. Is anybody else doing BLW? We're trying to get as much varied food into T as possible. Anybody got any suggestions. I haven't really ventured onto any of the other MN threads yet.

spongebrainbigpants · 07/01/2009 15:53

Alexander on the move

I hope those discerning viewers notice that the leaflet Alex grabs at the end of the clip is Abel and Cole! BLW at it's best!

And don't worry, the radiator wasn't on!

spongebrainbigpants · 07/01/2009 15:54

Lin, x-posted - there's a few of us doing BLW. I am, but not having too much variety at the moment. Ali and HH are probably your best bet I think!

poppy34 · 07/01/2009 16:14

ideas here would be good - not blw but want to introduce more finger foods...

blimey sponge -a can really move can't he?

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 07/01/2009 16:17

Thanks Sponge that's a bit of pressure to come up with an exciting list! I don't think we are as imaginative as HH though...
Homemade meatballs
Avocado
Roasted parsnip and potatos (infact Xmas lunch compontents all generally popular)
Fusili (boring but popular ATM)
Brocolli
Celeriac mash
Homemade shepherds pie (I had to squish into balls first though so it stayed together)
Loves green beans
Carrot batons
Baguette
Rice cakes
Breadsticks despite not having the teeth to break them off
Oat cakes

We are avoiding diary though because we think that might be what was setting P's eczema off. He loved cream cheese, but shortly afterwards his cheeks were weeping. Since cutting it out he is much better. The plan is to wait another week and them try a bit of diary again and observe closely.

spongebrainbigpants · 07/01/2009 16:24

My pleasure Ali!

I can't really add to that list, except cucumber which Alex loves. Oh and pear and banana - anything that is hard enough to hold but soft enough to eat .

And he loves breadsticks! And pitta bread.

Yes, poppy, he moves at a hell of a speed - I desperately need dh to go in the loft and get the travel cot down cos I can't leave him for very long at all now.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 07/01/2009 17:07

Sponge Fab video, you better be careful as he was really eying up the stairs!!!

poppy34 · 07/01/2009 17:29

ali do you make little balls with mash? think this may be way to go as tried edie on slightly thicker puree..well that was a mistake - retched it up then used spoon to make herself sick (I know they aren't supposed to know how to do these things)...is now chuffed with herself as gave in and gave her chav food which she gobbled up.

Essie3 · 07/01/2009 17:40

Hello all! Just put Iestyn in his vibrating chair for the first time on ages. He's loving it so I'll type until he cries.

5GoMad sorry for giving you the new, badder nickname! The whole scary man thing sounds awful. Just a thought - she's not thinking of Santa, is she? I only ask because I was terrified of a strange man coming into my room at Christmas when I was a child. ( although it is quite sensible really and could have stood me in good stead in college...!) Presents were always left downstairs for us because of that. A Santa phobia - am I mad or what?

BLW people (I was going to call you BL Weaners, but that's a naughty American name, right?). Every time I give Iestyn something to gnaw on and he manages to 'eat' some of it he gags and it has to be pulled out. My friend Paula today gave him some of her jammie dodger (but that had to be pulled out)! But just to show that puree babies can also eat a varied diet, Iestyn had a quorn sausage casserole with (veggie) Worcestershire sauce and mustard last night...

An update on the Bad Situation here. Last night, Tim managed to force half a jar of rice pudding down Iestyn at teatime. We then did bathtime, and I casually mentioned how he hates to be on his back these days - he flips over in the bath. Anyhow, this led to me giving his last feed sitting up (me!), rather than both of us lying down, and he fed much better than the last few nights. He also made Tim laugh by pulling down my bra and slapping my nipple - he's getting a bit forward! He then went to sleep on his side (a breakthrough!) until 11.30. However, he woke, I fed him and he was wide awake, wanting to play, screaming when put in his cot, and in the end Tim took him for a drive at 1am. However, he then slept through until 7am.
We are now considering the fact that he slept from 1am-7am in his bearsuit - maybe he was cold?
No answers for the 1am drive - we have no idea why he was so awake. Answers on a postcard please... And thanks to everyone for the good suggestions.
On keeping babies warm at night, is it totally wrong to put him down in his bearsuit over a vest and sleepsuit?
Bizarrely, though, I feel more tired for having a good stretch of sleep!

There were other things I wanted to respond to as well, I'm sure. Will probably be back later and will respond then!

Oh, I know - puree are you a quilter too?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/01/2009 17:47

We didn't do Santa, her room is in a converted cow shed (sounds better than it is) and is about 250 years old so presume something might be there. She was better last night but when I put her to bed at 1 she did go in slowly and look around the door, but she is happy to go to bed in the first place.
