Bit bored so thought I would start the new thread

That's a good bargain - what's it called and i'll look it up online as I want some of that as Luke's on the carpet and it moults.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 06/01/2009 19:23

DS was also in bright pink tights today, yesterday he was wearing a gorgeous lilac baby gro with red fowers on it - he looked very pretty but may not thatnk me for it in a few years time!

Someone asked about baby jam, Health food shops sell concentrated fruit spreads that would be okay for a baby though still high in natural sugars.

Ds sleeps in our bed uder our duvet so we are far from perfect here too!

systemsaddict · 06/01/2009 20:47

My dp got so frustrated with the bodysuit / sleepsuit / vest / babygro(w?) nomenclature minefield we gave up and started calling them 'arms and legs', 'just arms' or 'no arms no legs' when I sent him off foraging in the baby clothes drawers

C went down before 7 again today!!! She whimpered at quarter past eight but ds was resisting his bedtime and by the time we had sorted him out she was asleep again... Can't claim to have cracked it yet but it's so reassuring to know that improvement is at least possible!!

Loved the christening story Essie. Glad I could reassure you a bit. Look forward to hearing how the return to work goes - am I right in thinking your new dept is much more supportive than your old one was?

neenztwinz · 06/01/2009 20:50

I can't see problem with duvet at this age if it is very cold and it is definitely not going to go over baby's head. It goes down to 11/13 degrees here as well in the night so very cold! I put Esther with her head on a pillow for a nap over Christmas cos she was snuffly. Just have to use common sense.

Essie, yes I was thinking same... when you say got the things from OU please tell me you are not doing an OU course as well as going back to work?

neenztwinz · 06/01/2009 20:52

Systems, PMSL at arms and legs/no arms/no legs. My two live in just vests and babygros (arms, legs and feet with buttons) so there is no confusion here!

Essie3 · 06/01/2009 20:55

Hahaha, Systems, new department couldn't possibly be any worse - old dept refused to change my teaching times (9-11 Monday AM) to help me out in my morning sickness. I was told to be thankful my teaching room was near the toilet! So they are supportive. It's just hard starting a new job in a new dept.
And BDQ, Neenz, yes it's me doing OU...as well as everything else! It's only 1 course, though, not a degree. I am quite anxious about it but the dept are offering a lighter load in exchange for it.

Also BDQ are these the playmats? Funnily enough, both Penguin and I were on the lookout for some. Really handy. They would solve my problem of head+wood floor in Wales! Did you buy them instore?

snugglebum38 · 06/01/2009 20:59

Hi there
I agree - it might be a New Year but I just cant seem to get to sleep at night - Is anyone in the same boat ???? Snugglebum

neenztwinz · 06/01/2009 21:03

Essie, well if it is just a course that's OK . I thought you were going for Supermum Of The Year

Hi Snugglebum, yes we are all in the same boat as we all her six/seven/eight month old babies keeping us up!

hedgehog1979 · 06/01/2009 21:29

Thanks for the tips on mittens - I have the fold over cuffs, but he screams at those as well. I think the problem is he wants to be able to get at his thumb and can't if it is covered. someone suggested cutting a hole in the mitten to let the thumb out, am seriously considering that now.
SA we have long sleeved, short sleeved or all in ones for DH, but he still gets the wrong size sometimes - 3-6 clothes have been put in a box as we got so much 6-9 stuff for christmas that is in the wardrobes and drawers, but Isaac is currently sleeping in a 3-6 babygro which is definitely to small for him [grrr]
UDC glad D is keeping her solids down, but sorry to hear about the hip thing.
p&p have you only just realised that I have an 'unconventional' approach to parenting . isaac has just had spring rolls, black bean chicken and rice for tea and loved the bamboo shoots and bean sprouts, when I told my NCT mums this they looked at me like I was mad - they are all still doing purees

Oh, Neenz, I am going for Supermum of the Year - don't you think I'll get it?

Just been having fun on the Arts and Crafts board! Troubleshooting for others, but randomly asking for sewing patterns too!

Anyone want to buy a handmade baby quilt? Perhaps for a newborn or Christening gift? It's Noah's Ark, all handmade.

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 06/01/2009 22:00

BDQ - we flew with BMI. The car seat still goes I'm the hold of the aircraft with the bags, but goes in and comes out as you get on and off the plane.

LOL systems at your descriptions of baby clothes. Shortly after P was delivered I nearly had a barney at James because he could not find any of the clothes to dress Peter in that the MW was asking for, not knowing what a vest was didn't help.

HH, Peter is now moving into 9-12 month stuff . At the weekend I bought some vacusacks and packed all his outgrown stuff away. It made me feel ever so maudlin . Could not believe how big he is compared to the babygros he started out in.

Essie. Sorry to hear about your traumas, I am thinking of you, really hope the little man comes round. The honey stuff made me LOL and I read it to my parents. As somone with a reluctant sleeper I certainly don't have any solutions, like HH I wondered what would happen if you went out for the day on the weekend, leaving him with Tim, and see if hunger will sorthim out. It seems cruel and I don't know whether I would do it myself, but you never know. Pleased to hear about the christening- sorry not to have made it, life is kind of running away from me at the moment (as I say the sleep situation is not great ATM).

Will lose the Chrimbo name when I get back on the big computer.

whinegums · 06/01/2009 22:01

Essie, what on earth was your MIL thinking? I don't have any in laws, but I do get sick of my mum telling me I should be doing this, that and the other, and why do I do that, etc etc. I know she's been getting on my SIL's tits dispensing advice to my SIL too. I had a word with her about it, I could almost see her biting her tongue when we were down at Christmas. Ah, families!!!!

I do take the opportunity to point out that she's not really a parenting guru - this is the woman who started smoking again when she got pregnant with me because she didn't want a baby as big as my brother after all.

Hedgehog, spring rolls have gone down well here too, (and B is partial to Yo Sushi's vegetable gyozas). As did a lump of mince pie at Christmas (Nigella's recipe so that was ok ).

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/01/2009 22:02

Well that is waking number one for DD - 7.45 until 10.

ohlittletownofGlasvegas · 06/01/2009 22:03

hi guys, been away for a while, and not keeping up I was about a thread behind!

Just a quick post again, wanted to say Essie I feel your pain. Charlotte won't take a bottle or a cup at all at the moment and I'm going back to work in February. I am having an intensive week of trying every day with a variety of different cups and bottles and EBM. Am scared to give her formula as she was really sick afer having a jar of HIPP organic porridge which contains milk and am paranoid that's she's going to be intolerant of it! oh well...

glad to hear everyone is doing well with weaning and so forth and will try and keep up a bit better!

[waves at the Scottish contingent]

Laurat

ohlittletownofGlasvegas · 06/01/2009 22:04

Whinegums mmm nigella's mincepies mmmm

DebInAustria · 06/01/2009 22:09

warning about the alphabet playmats - they are very tempting to chew(babies not me) I have some(bought on offer when ds1 was small) - with vehicles on, vehicles are made up of 50 million pieces , they look great at first until the pieces get lost or eaten!Alphabet ones should be better

neenztwinz · 06/01/2009 22:17

Hi lauraT - sorry weaning/bottles not going so well.

Ah, Essie, you ARE going for Supermum of the Year? Then yes of course I think you will get it .

Essie3 · 06/01/2009 22:26

Actually, Neenz, I've already got the award.

Oh, wait, you said SuperMUM. I thought you meant SuperSLUM.

LauraT we should start a bottle and beaker shop... We've also tried formula, and water, but nothing doing. Although Iestyn happily drank bath water out of his stacking play cups.
Annabel Karmel mentions juice. Might look into that.

We may have a teeny breakthrough here. Iestyn's bedtime feed was much, much better - no crying, actually fed quite a bit. The discovery was me mumbling that he doesn't like to lie on his back any more (he flips over in the bath, like a fish), and decided to feed him sitting up. And lo, no crying and good feeding.

5GoMad have been thinking about you all weekend. that DD is still waking for you. Is it still as bad?
Will it make you smile if I double checked that post and realised I'd mistyped and called you 5GoBad?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/01/2009 22:46

That made me smile Essie - my turn for the sofa tonight. It was progress as she just woke upo, she didn't wake up screaming so that is something, what is confusing is that she keeps saying scary man. Now I know that no one has been in her room but as it is a very old house I wonder if it would be worth having it blessed. Just musing, we have cranked up the heating in her room with an oil radiator so will see what happens.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/01/2009 07:11

Halleluijah (sp) - she only woke up once at 1, no crying, no mention of scary man and was back in bed and asleep within 10 minutes. And that was the las I saw of her until 20 minutes ago.

pureeandpearls · 07/01/2009 07:24

Morning all. Why do we only have one word for cold? Surely we need a word for ridiculously cold? Is there one in German Debs?

HH- glad I'm not the only one feeding Chinese food....babypearls had duck pancakes the other day, which went down very well

BDQ- been meaning to say that if you are coming to London, where are you staying. If in Central London, I'm quite happy to sort you out a 'welcome pack' of food/nappies so you don't need to pack them all.....

Essie- you've reminded me I need to finish making a cot bumper for a friend....seeing as I'm up so promptly!!

DebInAustria · 07/01/2009 07:32

Morning, no idea about the German word, but it was -10 when Stefan left for school at 7.30 this morning! Yes, they are back at school - which is great in one way but it means the return of dreaded homework!!Off shopping now, they've eaten everything this holiday.Catch up later.

DebInAustria · 07/01/2009 07:33

5gobad!! love the new name Essie. Great news about your dd.

pureeandpearls · 07/01/2009 09:34

5goBad- GENIUS!!!

Happy sopping Debs. Following your example and off to Waitrose when babypearls gets up from her nap. Also trying to get back in to my blog, since when doing my tax returns the other day I realised my maternity allowance ends at the end of January....have to try to get back to life as I once knew it. Eeek.

bitofadramaqueen · 07/01/2009 10:33

Ooh, its not the alphabet mat Essie and Amber - but the same kind of idea. Its the number mat, and is probably a bit smaller than the alphabet one (damn, I'd have bought that if I saw it in the store!). The number one is about a metre square and £4 a pack.

Thanks for the warning DEb. I did think they might be top chewing fodder, so was glad to find it so cheap at tesco. I'd been looking online and could only find ones at £23 plus. I always forget to look at tesco for stuff though.

LOL at your dp and baby clothes systems. I have to make sure that I lay out clothes for DH as he worries about putting on the wrong kind of bodysuit! Glad you had another good night. DH and I went for the accidentally having the baby monitor turned off all night so got some unbroken sleep from 1am till 6.30am. S seemed quite fine in the morning so he must have been ok. It was the first morning I found him asleep on his tummy though.

Essie - good luck with the course - discipline is the key (not that I've had any in the past). My new years resolution is to schedule in some study time each week and absolutely stick to it (like a meeting I cant get out of etc).

Alipali - thanks for that - am going to phone BA and see if they'll do the same to minimise possibility of damage. He'll only be in that car seat for about two months after we fly, so I'll be seriously p'd off if it was damaged and we had to get a new one.

hi Laura sorry the weaning not going great! S is a lot more sick since he started weaning (he never really was particularly sicky before) but he seems unperturbed by it so I'm just carrying on regardless . In fact as I typed he threw up over the only pair of clean jeans that fit me .

Glad yo had a better night 5gomad

Thanks puree that's really really kind of you. I am staying south of the river (surbiton) so wont take up your kind offer this time, but maybe next time...

My word for really cold is feckin freezing....

Although its not too bad here at the mo.

oops another mammoth pos. May well have x-posted as since I started I've got s up and dressed and changed hum ou of sicky clothes!
