back again with LO attached.

Major excitement here tonight: I have been out with my girlfriends in Battersea leaving P in DH's capable hands. P woke up soon after I left and would not go back to sleep so got to spend the night on the sofa watching Blade Runner. He finally conked out as I got home but has woken again having rolled over in his cot. More importantly I had a good time although it is slightly odd now that our lives are diverging more and more. Of the five of us:
2 had baby boys on 17th June
1 is due to have a baby next month
1 got dumped last year by my DHs best mate after 5 years. She works for the Cabinet Office so is quite a high powered civil servant
1 has just got divorced and teaches at a v posh girls school

So conversation either revolved around babies or being back in the dating game, which made it hard for everyone to participate in.

Even more exciting is that tomorrow I am going to a spa for the day with the divorcée and the other 17tu June Mum. Poor DH has more baby sitting to do

FiveGoMadInDorset · 18/01/2009 07:46

Ali have fun.

Well DD did it again. I used your method of giving her more tangible things to aim for Deb so toy if she sleeps through and one taken away if she doesn't and seems to be working.

pureeandpearls · 18/01/2009 08:14

Great news Five. Long may it last.

Ali at your weekend of grown-up time.

Goodnightssleep- how was the shoot?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. We had a fab day on the coast yesterday. Lunch at a restaurant (floor left looking like there'd been a hurricane ) babyp enjoyed her goo then noshed on focaccia, chips, roast chicken and tomato slices. Had a walk on the beach in the sunshine using the new baby backpack (which worked as well a thelast one did before I ran over it ). Then about an hour of us laughing at babypearls because she got a teeny-weeny armchair for Christmas so we plonked her in it whilst she watched her Pingu DVD (daddy getting bath ready)and she sat there staring at the TV looking for all the world like a reclining old man. She just needed the remote in one hand and a beer in the other and she could have been tne newest member of the Royle Family!

Anyway, I do hope you are all enjoying your weekends too. And thanks for your continued support and friendship . I know I'm not always around (tend to lurk when I'm going through a dark patch) so I'm not pulling my weight in the support department, but I do send positive thoughts your way xxxx

Lookat me- I've gone all gushy and setimental

AliandHerScallywag · 18/01/2009 09:12

welldone five you must be chuffed.

P&P glad you are having a good weekend sounds lovely whereabouts r u?

Amberc · 18/01/2009 09:21

Hello all, hope everyone is well and sleeping. Had two very early starts yesterday and today (5am and 5.20am) but I guess some of you are having a worse time so won't complain. Potentially may have imagined the shard of tooth as it seems to have disappeared overnight! Luke did have the reddest cheeks I have ever seen yesterday though so maybe it will reappear. He is desperately trying to crawl and I don't think it will be long as he now spends a lot of time up on all fours rocking backward and forward (someone mentioned this was the precursor to crawling). Need to start the babyproofing but tyhere just seems to be so much - especially cables as Mark is technology mad.

Having a bit of a looks crisis as the moment, maybe it's because I'm going back to work but I do feel like an ugly old cow. My dowdy clothes don't help but now with my 2 stone heavier frame it is difficult to find anything that looks nice and doesn't show up my back fat! Hey ho. Am hoping that going back to work will help shift a bit of the weight as I do lead a very inactive life at the moment. Anyway enough of my miserable post!

parofleurmapu · 18/01/2009 10:47

Morning

Having a nice lie in DP got Fleur up at 8am.
We are finally getting into a routine, being back at work etc

Fleur still has cough but now more phlegmy than croupy and that keeps her awake at night we sometimes get 3hr stretches but mostly every 1hr

Essie Glad nursery day went well thats good

Puree- lol at konditor and brownies!! Glad you had nice weekend

BDQ re cough meds. We have Meltus which i got when in england it helped her a bit then but with this cough nothing seems to be helping much at all.

Poppy saw millionare traders on our download thingy is it worth watching?

Glad sleeping is better 5

hope you have nice day ali

Amber dreading baby proofing here for same reasons we have 8 speakers in our living as DP is also technology mad maybe they should get to together on here and discuss proofing plans.
And can totally see where you are coming from re weight I wear 2 dresses and same skirt for work at mo as cant afford new ones and they are only thing that i feel ok in!!!Dreading when it gets hot here and i cant wear tights to hold all the flab in !!!

Well dp just bought me sausage roll and tea so will have that and get up need to make some plans for tthe wedding and sort stuff out for it as only 5 months away!!!

DebInAustria · 18/01/2009 13:00

5 so pleased that the rewards are helping

puree - your day at the coast sounds good

alli - what a lovely grown up time you're having. we did some video and will do some more today - i managed to get him clapping

paro - only 5 months - how exciting

amber - babyproofing - aargh, we also have cables, extension leads, open plan living and marble stairs!!!

rubbish night - every 2 hours - enough said, but have just been skiing with ds1 and 2 which was good, but had my skiis rewaxed and they were way too fast.

bitofadramaqueen · 18/01/2009 13:28

Hello everyone. Quick post to mark my spot - also had grown up girls night out last night with some fellow mums of similar age babies and had lots of fun.

Thanks for the cough medicine tip paro - I'll look out for that. Would like to post more but will just instead as I need to run!

PiggyPenguin · 18/01/2009 14:05

Quick post as should be ironing. Have kind of passed over the 'house of sin' comments but clicked on the link today and realised we have it!!! And have had it since dd was 6 months old. It has been well loved and used but is currently in the attic - does this mean that I need to get it out again for Jamie? It's been gone less than a year as it is. My dd did learn her alphabet from the alphabet song so its not all bad surely?

poppy34 · 18/01/2009 16:53

no on a serious note sybil- its not that bad (as far as toys that make noise go)... its got lots of tricks and dd already fascinated by it although can't do much with it yet - reckon you can leave it another couple of months before jamie will seriously love it.

the real culprit is the vtech walker thing (which I know dd will love when older) that grandma bought her -the songs/noises on that really grate whereas they are loud (and seemingly omnipresent as anything you press sets em off on hte house of sin) but do have some merit in the sesame street vein.
amber you're not ugly but think its prob not unexpected that going back to work produces a bit of a moment.

ali/puree glad you had good days out yesterday

5 sorry about your disturbed night (btw I've got ds socks' -will cat you about them). deb sorry too but [jealous]re skiing. just dossed about here today -was surprisingly nice given the filthy weather last night. hope everyone else had nice days too

spongebrainbigpants · 18/01/2009 20:40

Hi, quick post to mark my place as I have a hyper-stimulated baby that won't sleep after a weekend with the out laws!

Big thank you to all of you for your reassuring words re: Alex's weight. He is such a beautiful, happy and contented baby that I know I shouldn't worry but as we've said before parenthood is one elongated guilt trip !

poppy, totally with you on the vtech baby walker - was bought for us by a friend for Christmas, only got round to putting it together this week and I already want to take a hammer to it! Alex, needless to say, loves it!

josey · 18/01/2009 21:33

Been away so havent read to catch up just wanted to share a HUGE proud mummy moment.

Oli sat today and held her head up for about 10mins with just a few bobs forward and the only support was from 3 fingers of mine on her back really it doesnt give my smile justice!

hedgehog1979 · 18/01/2009 21:42

evening all

Have had a lovely weekend with DH and Isaac including popping up on the internet here (on the far right) DH and I are closet train spotters and went to see a new loco being delivered. And yes we took the pushchair up that muddy track!!

Really annoyed FIL as well as he wanted to see us this weekend but was going out at 10am today and wanted us over before then

Few things that I can think of, having read everything so far..

5go sorry that you haven't got the sleeping sorted yet
p&p sounds like you had a lovely day at the beach
amber I had to measure myself for new uniform for work and according to their measurements I am a size 24 ali and BDQ am really jealous of your girls nights out.
paro only 5 months, doesn't time fly (those 5 months will fly too)
deb sorry your nights are not going to well either (how was ethan in the other room?)
poppy why do grandparents think that noisy toys are a good idea - my MIL only seems to buy things for Isaac that are ridiculously noisy/annoying and then she gets annoyed when she babysits as the toys he has out and most used are not noisy ones.
essie glad nursery went well for Iestyn.

Right am going to make the most of my next two weeks I have lots of plans for lots of trips in the morning and snuggling in bed in the afternoon, although I am worried that this means Isaac will not sleep for the CM. Has anyone else got any experience of this? He sleeps fine in the cot during the night and will quite happily fall asleep on the playgym during the day so I very rarely put him in the cot. Am I building things up for a fall? OMG this is all so confusing and scary and I really don't want someone else looking after my baby

josey x post, but wow congrats to Oli. Makes me put my rant into perspective a little bit.

Hope you had a good holiday. I love Haven holiday parks

neenztwinz · 18/01/2009 22:14

Josey, that's wonderful news!!

Not been on for ages so have just skim-read four pages so forgot everything but...

Five, so glad she is sleeping better!!

Essie, hope work goes better. Love the description of Iestyn's nursery, the workers there sound lovely.

Baby Einstein, lol yes there are some really holier than thou types on MN aren't there? Personally I don't put the TV on all the time cos the DTs just stare at it... but when thet get grouchy and fed up I just put CBeebies on and it works its magic no problem!!! They love it!

abdnhiker · 19/01/2009 08:24

josey - am beaming here for you too!

F is the biggest grump right now because he's desparate to crawl but only goes backwards. He's very close though so I'm hoping we have a breakthrough this week. When DH got home on Friday I was fed up so tried to sell Fraser to him for £50 (enough for a 30 minute massage and a bottle of wine) but he hasn't paid up...

hedgehog1979 · 19/01/2009 08:52

Morning all.

AH had to LOL at you trying to sell F to DH, I would pay DH all the money in the world if he would agree that I didn't have to go back to work.

Had good plans for today was going to drive down to the coast and take Isaac for a long walk..... then watched the weather, don't fancy that on my own. So will be off to the library later on for story time instead

neenz Don't you have to love CBeebies, I am almost in love with it, it has an excellent calming effect here too

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/01/2009 08:55

josey that is wonderful news for you, well done Olivia, now can she come down here and show Sebastian what he is meant to do

Sleeping, fingers crossed seems to be bakc under control, she did wake at 11.30 but for some reason the ipod had stopped so as soon that was going she was fine and I had to wake her at 7 this morning.

I also love Cbeebies.

DebInAustria · 19/01/2009 09:52

Josey I am so pleased to read your proud Mummy announcement - well done Oli

AliandHerScallywag · 19/01/2009 13:41

Fabulous news Josey, that is just great.

I have been v good this morning trying to get the house ship shape after my grown up weekend. The spa yesterday was lovely from a girly chatting perspective, but the place was a bit run down, not somewhere I would rush to go back to. The massage was nice, the therapist told me I should be having weekly massages because one shoulder is so knotty from carrying Peter around. . It's not going to happen, but I like the idea.

Also just wanted to say how great DH was looking after Peter over the weekend. It is very easy to moan about his shortcomings, but he was just great. When I got home last night he told me how much he had enjoyed his day with Peter.

We have had two slightly improved nights too. 7 till 2.30 last night. Maybe DH should baby sit more often.

AliandHerScallywag · 19/01/2009 13:43

Forgot to say the HC cream has worked wonders on Ps cheeks. That might be why he is sleeping better.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 19/01/2009 14:07

josey I'm not suprised you're smiling, Oli is a little star. Well done to her for being so fantastic!

Amberc · 19/01/2009 14:48

Josey - I echo everyone else - well done you and Oli!

Ali - has Peter got very dry cheeks as well as the eczema as Luke's cheeks are like the sahara desert. Can you buy HC creme over the counter? Weekly massages eh? What bliss that would be!

Aberdeen - Luke does exactly the same thing - how funny! Gets up on all fours then rocks back and forth and then goes backwards! I was showing some other mums this morning at Baby music who found it very amuasing. Luke doesn't seem to mind though.

HH - we should get on the diet thread but I think going back to work will help us shed a few lbs.

CBeebies - I love it between 6 and 7 but hate that weird frog thing - prefered the old presenters. My favourite is Big and Small - Luke has usually conked out by then but I watch it all the same! I think it's the best thing Lenny Henry has ever done!!

systemsaddict · 19/01/2009 16:21

Wow, congrats to Oli, clever girl!!

Crap nights here too, C has had cold and I think teething too. Resorted to Medised last night so she was back to her usual 10 - 2 - 5.30 waking which is OK - but ds woke up twice too, so I was up 5 times.

And couldn't get back to sleep for thinking about househunting ... we've seen a huge Victorian terrace that's dead cheap, needs expensive and disruptive work, but could be really amazing. I want it, dp is being voice of reason, it's all academic unless we can sell ours anyway.... someone tell me we need a nice sensible semi with a big garden for the kids please!

And just for sponge and poppy: Hello puppy calling, do you want to play with me? Let's have fun together while we learn our ABC ... ah yes, we are marked for life by the vtech walker experience ...

systemsaddict · 19/01/2009 16:24

And it gets even better when the batteries start to run out, the songs get slower and slower and lower and lower and eventually get stuck on repeat. We had asked for a lovely aesthetically pleasing old-fashioned walker full of wooden blocks, but Nanny and Grandad felt ds would prefer the vtech. They were probably right, but ....
