Bit bored so thought I would start the new thread

Amber the emoillent is Unguentum. Apparently the Drs wife has been using it as a foundation for years and she looks 20 years younger than she really is?! Having applied it now I can tell you it would make a very strange foundation. Suspect the Dr doesn't know what foundation actually is.

Sponge - Alex is fine, please don't worry about him. We joke that P is either like a little budda or Randy from "My Name is Earl" (cos he's big and simple)

poppy34 · 15/01/2009 21:24

also does she look 20 years younger or is he a doctor smoothy type in the style of dr hilary jones?

systemsaddict · 15/01/2009 21:50

We are kids' tv addicts here ... it saved my bacon when I was stuck at home with SPD but ended up getting ds totally addicted to CBeebies so Caitlin has had little choice. Has been slightly improved with the addition of a Freeview + box for Christmas, so now most of the programmes he watches are on the hard drive and when they finish he does something else, but he still watches far more than is supposed to be good for him. Not how I'd planned to mother I must admit, but it doesn't seem to have done him any harm yet!

Why is it that on the one day I am on a course so can't do my usual mid-morning and mid-afternoon expressing, it is also the one day I have run out of good breast pads and end up wearing the crap emergency ones which leak? And then why is it that the course ends with a walk around the room type exercise so I can't even hide behind a table? The other participants (strangers mostly) must have thought I was most odd, keeping my arms folded and clamped to my chest at all times!! this is the stuff no-one warns you about ...

pleasechange · 15/01/2009 22:17

systemsaddict re. the leaking! I'm really worried about this when I go back to work. At the min I'm only feeding at night and I've not leaked in the day so far, but sods law the one time it happens will be at work. You poor thing!

Have no idea what topic that baby einstein thread was on, sorry. I was bored and looking through active conversations when I found it. poppy lol re. home educating and G&T types

poppy Alexander is a different child when at baby groups compared to when at home/with family. With us he's really loud, chatty and giggly, loves me signing silly songs and he laughs like mad when ticked. But at the baby classes I go to he becomes really serious and won't smile or laugh at all. Don't know whether he's just overawed by all the other babies or what.

sponge I sympathise in terms of worrying that we will pass on our problems to DC's. If it helps any, what Alex is eating/drinking sounds completely normal. My Alex is a little guzzler and would happily bf all day and night if I let him. Also he's carbohydrate mad like me and loves bread/rice. The one worry I have is that I will pass on my shyness to him. I guess we all worry about these things

systemsaddict · 16/01/2009 06:54

I worried about passing on my crap domestic skills, having been brought up by a slightly neurotically houseproud mother who cleaned constantly, I didn't see how I could possibly bring up kids in the chaos in which we live, what could they learn from me? Fast forward a bit and ds is in the bath, telling me off for dirtying the bathroom floor he's just swept. At 2 and a half ... he is channelling my mother! Guess they each have their own characters from day 1!!

DebInAustria · 16/01/2009 09:13

Tristan tidies the fridge and looks in despair at me when I have put things in the wrong place!

hedgehog1979 · 16/01/2009 09:19

morning all,

SBBP don't worry about alex, it will all even itself out in the end. I know I have only met him once but he was lovely then and am sure he still is now.

Systems agh leaking, I hadn't even considered that for when I go back to work, Just one more thing to add to my panic list

oh one more thing...mmmmm creme eggs

systemsaddict · 16/01/2009 11:28

hedgehog and allnew, don't worry too much it's never happened before (and I was feeding ds and working for 8 months, and Caitlin since November), I just got a bit blase, forgot to stock up on my usual breast pads (Avent) and thought 'well I'm sure these ones I only keep for emergencies will do just as well ...' - lesson learned!

katyjo · 16/01/2009 12:59

Ali pmsl at drs wife using ug. merck as foundation, must look very strange at parties, do u think she rubs it in - can't type for laughing so much!

allnew I wonder if we knew each other? I lived off norris rd, craddock rd. Can't really remember much of the area now we moved when I was 11.

God, don't be jealous of Mia pulling herself up, its awful! I forgot how much I hated it with Hamish, I seriously considered getting him a crash helmet! As I am typing she is pulling herself up the chair leg and has already fallen once, I can't get anything done and she crys everytime I put her in the travel cot (our playpen). My mum has Hamish this pm, so I can get some housework done, so I better get off mumsnet!

pleasechange · 16/01/2009 14:50

It's fairly quiet on here today!

Just been out and bought a cream egg - I blame you lot! Also bought a bottle of red wine and am just enjoying a nice glass while A is asleep

katyjo I used to live off Cumberland Road, which is off Norris Road. I lived there quite a bit after you though. I only live about 2 miles from there now

Essie3 · 16/01/2009 15:51

Right, no internet at home since yesterday morning, but hopefully will be fixed tonight. On mum's computer so v. unfamiliar. Lots to say, lots to respond to, will do later. But a teaser:
I've been to work
Iestyn has been to nursery
I had a birthday (it was shite, btw)

Anyhow, DOND is on now, so I must go. at Sponge, and at least leave your washing machine door open for air.

p.s. Sponge so that's how you got those carpet burns. And there's me thinking...

Back later, I hope

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/01/2009 17:20

I shot 10 pheasants today.

hedgehog1979 · 16/01/2009 17:34

5go Are you going to eat them, I love pheasant
essie sorry your birthday wasn't all it was cracked up to be. How was Iestyn at nursery?
allnew Hope the wine was good, does it go with creme eggs?
Should really be thinking about dinner, but Isaac is trying really hard to roll over so I am watching him rather than being all grown up

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 16/01/2009 17:36

You've been busy fivegomad... !!!

AMber The dd's both got top teeth first so I expect ds to aswell.

sponge I hope you aren't worrying to much about your ds's weight. I'm huge and my girls are both average weight, DS is a bit big on the centiles but in proportion to his height. I always found and still do that babies/children get really chubby looking and almost over night they are tall and lean again!

poppy34 · 16/01/2009 17:40

lol at your dd systemsaddict - I worry re edie being shy /awkward and feeling a bit odd in social situations which is completely my projection onto her but I guess as think we all worry about pasisng on our foibles.

and ali I'm still with katyjo giggling about your gp's wife.

essie sorry your birthday was crap and how was work/nursery?

5gomad there is something slightly scary about you coming on announcing that you shot 5 pheasants today... remind me not to mess with you -how is your dd doing on the sleeping front?

sponge the washign machine also mesmerised edie.. but is now looking at her new baby einstein..best keep onto this thread what with my ff, baby jars etc - I won't be welcome with the lentil weavers on here (should have guessed that was teh way it would go when my hypno birthing came to naught and I had an epidural)

bitofadramaqueen · 16/01/2009 18:56

Mmmm I love pheasant. Not much else to say today, except has anyone been to m&s for dine in for £10 goodies? I got a medium sized chicken (which will do 2 or three meals one way or another), some nice potatoes, lovely apple pie and a bottle of cava for a tenner. The chicken is normally around £9 so bargain-tastic.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/01/2009 19:05

Yes to eating them. My fmaily have a pheasant shoot and we had a ladies day today. I have shot since I was 16 and was captain o our college's ladies team that won the national agricultural colleges national championships way back in the dark ages

No joy on the sleeping front.

DebInAustria · 16/01/2009 19:34

Evening, today my boys came back from the tip(which my good friend runs) with a lovely hand made tiny wooden chair for Ethan and a Fisher price stand up ball blast which is great but there are no balls - I wondered if anyone had one , could you tell me the diameter of the balls, and I can search for some suitable.

AliandHerScallywag · 16/01/2009 19:56

Katyjo and Poppy, pleased to hear that my Dr is such a source of amusement. He is the opposite of a smooth type. He is about 60 with a white beard and has a typical
Medic sense of humour I think: v dry. Everything is delivered deadpan. Sometimes he is joking and sometimes he isn't, but it can be hard telling which.

Essie - desperate to hear more. Not sure if I am more interested in work, nursery or your birthday.

Quiet day here as it started to rain so I lost the incentive to get out. Instead I caught up on Lipstick Jungle and Greys Anatomy (no spoilers please as I am still v behind on both). Then did Oz Aerobics on sky sports which seemed to amuse P.

We had nothing in the fridge but I found a recipe for coriander and parsley pesto which was perfect as that is was I had left. However it was minging, because it has raw onion. I will be telling DH to get himself a kebab on the way home with onion - he will think this most excellent!

poppy34 · 16/01/2009 20:29

am even more scared now of you 5gomad deb that looks like a good haul -the balls on that blaster look v.like the ones on the fisher price house of sin thing we've got. I can go measure them.

ali love the image of you doing aerobics.. dh was doing "ballet" earlier to entertain edie during the tea - she found it hilarious (mind you she was a captive audience tied into her high chair).

PiggyPenguin · 16/01/2009 20:39

Ali I found that the trick with the hc cream was to use it early and then you need less to clear the flare-up iyswim. The problem with the face is they tend to scratch and you need to keeo an eye out for it getting infected - little red spots was also a sign of this with ds1.

Sponge - I really wouldn't worry too much about size yet. A couple of ds's friends were big babies, one so big the hv suggested less food/milk etc as she was off the percentiles. At 7 both of them are now as skinny as whippets.

Deb I too find older siblings make ace distractions. I pop Jamie in his jumparoo and let dd entertain him while I cook tea and it is the quietest 20 minutes of my day. He adores the fact that he has all her attention and bounces like crazy while she sings/chats to him.

Jamie isn't crawling yet but has found his legs. He stands up in his Galt ring and launches himself forwards. I then have to grab his legs to save him falling out - we already have a bumpdd head to show how slow I am!

hedgehog1979 · 16/01/2009 21:08

sybil that sounds familiar - Isaac throws himself out of this at the moment.

ali I have to use some stuff on Isaac for eczema and second using it before it gets too bad.

5go I really would like some pheasant now, maybe I shall go and buy one once I get my bonus paid.

goingto Glad to know that things do not always happen by the book and teeth can come in any order.

Just waiting for DH to get home from a Scout Training session with some pudding food, have told him I would like creme eggs, or something else.

DH is off for this whole weekend so we are going to have some lovely family time as it is only 2 weeks until I go back to work (I am now slightly nervous, ok very nervous really)

DebInAustria · 16/01/2009 21:47

Poppy, yes please measure them - and are they heavy? love the name - Fisher Price house of sin!!

The supplies have arrived with my step cousin from the UK, I have had my 1st creme egg of the year!!

DebInAustria · 16/01/2009 21:48

have a lovely weekend hh

poppy34 · 16/01/2009 21:53

hh have a lovely weekend

deb will measure tomorrow - as don't want to inadvertently set the house of sin off (surely teh song "its bumper to bumper on the rainbow road" is truly the work of the devil but not as much as the "musical"drum my sister bought edie and dh takes great delight as choosing EVERY DAY for the toy she takes into the bed when he wakes her up at 7am)...not heavy -more like rubber ping pong balls.

and both deb/sybil making me feel quite positive about idea of trying again..
