Bit bored so thought I would start the new thread

I may have made work sound too idyllic, I'm shattered today.

HH - that's a lot of food to have on weetabix. Damn it, Amber got to that joke first!

Whinegums - I understand what you're saying. If I get made redundant, how easy would it be to find a new job which would allow flexible hours and working from home?

Creme egg Ali? Yum yum! Sorry to hear about Peter's cheeks, poor little mite.

Sponge - Commando races sound like great fun. There's some non MN wimbledon mums I sometimes meet up with and we got together with partners for the first time last Saturday - suddenly we had baby fights! "Go on my son!"

Poppy - My friend had a baby last Monday, saw him for the first time last Friday (as did Essie briefly...) and then again last night. He is so tiny and sleeps sso much! The difference in 6 months is truely astounding. Mde me a bit clucky TBH.

Ryder currently eating the head of his toy bat, Ozzy Osbourne eat your heart out. Hardcore BLW here!

poppy34 · 15/01/2009 18:43

nah you didn'tali - my approach with tv is a bit in moderation is good (esp after tea which is when i'd allow her to watch it when older) but not all the time.. and as for anyone who says its a babysitter am I the only one who discusses baby einstein and has favourite bits that I point out to edie ..

bitofadramaqueen · 15/01/2009 18:49

Shall I go find the other thread and say, yes baby einstein is a great babysitter, always available and no hourly rate. What's to complain about ?

Seriously though, I put S in front of baby einstein around 4.30pm when he's starting to get really cranky and the last thing he needs is me playing with him. I'd like to say that I sit and watch it with him, but must confess to going and getting his tea organised, washing nappies, clearing the kitchen ready for tea time... BAd mummy that I am

Oh, and he usually gets a bit of cbeebies in the morning while I pack changing bag/have breakfast.

Am I the only person that thinks cheese on weetabix might make them more tasty ?

spongebrainbigpants · 15/01/2009 18:59

Just a quick one cos I'm about to do bath, but I use the washing machine as a babysitter - is that worse or better than Baby Einstein?!

I'm with Ali on avoiding kids' tv simply cos I can't stand it not cos I have any objection to tv - Alex and I sit down and watch Deal or No Deal together every day and I know how much Ali thinks of that!!

(I would say that I know an academic who also watchs DOND so I feel in esteemed company! )

Back later x

spongebrainbigpants · 15/01/2009 19:00

Did that sound right? I don't, of course, put Alex in the washing machine to babysit - just sit him in front of it in his high chair (and it is on when he's watching it too - an empty washing machine wouldn't have quite the same effect methinks! ).

hedgehog1979 · 15/01/2009 19:18

SBBP LOL at putting alex in the washing machine.

re TV, I think at this age they are still looking at the shapes and colours rather than paying attention to what is going on. Isaac is a fan of (mostly american stuff) 24, CSI, NCIS, but also Time Team, Mythbusters and loves The One Show. We do also do CBeebies, but I have to turn it off when I get to annoyed by it.

Isaac seems completely non plussed by other babies, He got crawled over by one of our NCT babies this morning and likes to hold hands with anyone within reach.

PP interesting that you avoid chilli - DH made burgers tonight and put some chilli in them, Isaac still ate it with no protests and got quite upset when it was all gone.

  1. What is CAt that people talk about on MN
  2. Pah - I am a crap mum and have kids programmes on all day long more or less other than when Luke is asleep when i then turn on even more rubbish like Jeremy Kyle and ancient reruns of Animal Hospital with Rolf! I admit to loving Peppa Pig on Nick Jr.
  3. No action here with crawling and NO TEETH!!!!! I felt something sharp on the top but it can't be a tooth right as the bottom ones come first. Luke is trying to pull himself up but at Mia who has pulled up to standing already - wow!
  4. Ali let me know if HC works - Luke draws blood all the time on his cheeks poor thing and sometimes the itchiness stops him from sleeping. What emolient did they give you? The one we have for Luke is like lard!
  5. I have a stinking miserable cold and I'm sure there was loads more I wanted to comment on but have forgotten as my brain seems surrounded in cotton wool and I have gone deaf. Got my first driving lesson in months tmorrow - typical!
Amberc · 15/01/2009 19:37

Oh by the way - with hideous cold, Mark has a normal cold but has inflated it to manflu level to compete with me and obviously to stop him from having to do any additional duties. He told me that he should have the night time tablets from my benilyn day and night to knock him out for the night - bloody cheek - what about me?!

whinegums · 15/01/2009 19:49

Evening all, just a quick hello, DP finally back from Russia tonight. Going to have a bath and dinner before he gets in. Amber, bloody cheek indeed! Hope you feel better soon

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/01/2009 19:53

Amber - top ones sometimes come through first.

I am sat here waiting for my credit card to defrost and then I am going to book the hotel.

Other than that life is going on as usual, S has a temp but sleeping, Edie still not sleeping, but physically did not get out of bed at 4.30 so that is something and lay down and went to sleep straight away. We are going to keep her up later and see if that helps.

bitofadramaqueen · 15/01/2009 19:55

amber I do know some babies who got top teeth first, so you never know!

CAT is 'contact another mumsnetter' amber - you can email other MNer directly via the little envelope icon on the right hand side of people's names so you dont need to put your email address on MN. You pay for it though - about a fiver per year.

TV - S loves football much to DH's delight. I think its all the moving colour.

spongebrainbigpants · 15/01/2009 20:05

katyjo, v impressed with Mia pulling herself to standing, I think A is a long way from getting off his belly, but hey he's a bloke so what can I expect?!

BDQ, lol at the cycling at the carrier bag!

Ali, poor Peter .

Thanks for offering my advice on weaning but not sure anyone would want any tips from me . I am making a total fecking pig's ear of it - Alex has put on too much weight, is still drinking too much milk, and has probably the most boring diet on the planet .

I'm now really worried that A is going to become a fat child and he's only seven months. Btw, anyone who's thinking that I'm fat so kind of inevitable that A will be too - I was never a fat kid. My weight problems started in my late 20s. Really really don't want A to be fat .

Anyway, enough of that - can't believe that people on here are slagging off children's tv . There are some real sanctimonious yoghurt knitters on this site aren't there?! My bezzie mate didn't have a tv when she was at home - left home at 18 and has had the tv on 24/7 since! Everything in moderation (well, except chocolate of course).

poppy, lol at the suggestion of camouflage gear!

pp, know what you mean about baby fights - we have five boys in our NCT group and they're a boisterous bunch already! Love sticking their fingers in each others' eyes and mouths, much to the consternation of the two girls who don't seem to like their play at all! So no poppy, you're not the only one with a slightly nervous baby!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/01/2009 20:06

Sponge wants he gets running around it comes off.

spongebrainbigpants · 15/01/2009 20:16

5, thanks . I know I'm being ridiculously anxious about this, but I'm really worried about passing on my weight problems .

Btw, where's the Baby Einstein thread? Can't find it!

Amberc · 15/01/2009 20:25

TBH I have probably imagined the sharp bit - a watched kettle and all that...

poppy34 · 15/01/2009 20:31

sponge alex is not fat - he is a gorgeous little thing ... and I think it shows g&t style imagination in alex that he likes teh washing machine.

amber good luck tomorrow - cAT is the thing whre you pay so much (about £5 pa) and allowas other mumsnet to contact you. and there is nowt wrong with jeremy kyle -it was probably first thing edie ever saw along with the olympics. and she'll watch anything (her elder sister has introduced her to the mtv channels and her father to rugby which she just loves).

PP made me quite broody too - amazing how time erases how horrid it was (but think friend found it quite reassuring when I told her that the nice calm little thing she was playing with was also satan child in the evenings when very little).

hh love the image of isaac the love child and interesting re chilli - they do say its good to introduce them to different flavours... I've got a recipe somewhere for baby curry/rice that has chilli in it (you just cook with it uncooked so its not so hot)..

DebInAustria · 15/01/2009 20:34

BDQ - love the cycling carrier bag story

Poppy - still don't know when my 50 minutes of fame will be on TV, and as for creme eggs, I have a distant relation arriving tomorrow and I was asking her for a few UK goodies. Completely unprompted she said - Do you get creme eggs there? So, I should be able to have my 1st of the year tomorrow afternoon!!!

Alip - Stefan ( or was it Tristan? ) had the steroid cream for eczema, didn't have to use it for long and it worked very fast.

Sponge - Tristan always liked the washer too. I tend to use the older 2 boys as babysitters!!! They either hold Ethan whilst they watch tv or he watches them playing. he loves Wii tennis!!
Have I missed something , is the DR concerned about Alex's weight? Ethan is still taking lots of milk and eating lots too, I sat him on my knee tonight just in his nappy and Stefan said he looked like a sumo wrestler. Like 5 says it is surprising how they change as they start to run around.

Whinegums - hope you have a lovely evening with your dh returning from Russia.

Ethan hasn't really had any experience of other babies yet - do I brave a group with older children in it. in the village next week? The thought of joining in , in German, terrifies me. I did go to one with Tristan for a while but it was when we had just moved here so people didn't expect me to speak much, now it's different.

DebInAustria · 15/01/2009 20:36

amber, ethan's teeth haven't come through in the "normal" sequence.

Amberc · 15/01/2009 20:38

Sponge Alex is not fat - he's lovely and cuddly - just how babies are meant to be. What do you mean he hs put on too much weight? Has he gone up the centiles? I don't remember him eating loads at the lunch. Luke is still on 3 hourly milk 7oz plus food 3 times a day (although he doesn't eat too much) - how does that compare to Alex's daily intake - probably about the same right - and Luke is a slim jim. Just goes to show - all babies are different and their size and shape at 7 months really probaby bears no correlation at all to their future weight.

Amberc · 15/01/2009 20:41

PS Poppy - saw G&T style imagination and thought you meant gin and tonic! A few of those and I'd find a washing machine quite interesting!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/01/2009 20:45

Sponge I have those concerns too, I have always been big (and now very big but the food focus site is helping), Edie has as healthy a diet as any child I know and as long as I feed her healthily and we all get active as a family then that is the best start in life.

pureeandpearls · 15/01/2009 20:47

Oh my Lord- you guys are all chatting today and I feel like I'm late to the party!! So tired I can't think straight, never mind type so will just tell you that I had my first Creme Egg of the year and I thought of us all as I wolfed it down (obviously didn't have too long a thought then )

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/01/2009 20:48

Still hate those creme eggs

Amberc · 15/01/2009 21:00

yeah I think creme eggs are minging!

poppy34 · 15/01/2009 21:11

I'm no fan of creme eggs either but mini eggs, or caramel eggs are a different so
