Bit bored so thought I would start the new thread

OP posts:

Hi Mellymell - Manchester is great! I live in Merseyside now but used to live near Rochdale (don;t move there ). Where does your DH work (eg in city centre)? What line of work are you in? Some areas near Manchester are really expensive - probably stick to the south side for the best areas but the north is prob cheapr (a bit more gritty IYSWIM).

PP, glad to hear work is going OK.

DebInAustria · 14/01/2009 22:33

PP - Still in Austria but the house is on the market now, Tv programme still hasn't been on yet - they're saying February now.
You paint a positive picture re going back to work - I love the idea of a dinner hour!!

spongebrainbigpants · 14/01/2009 22:57

Hi all, just been spending the evening writing my will with a solicitor . Necessary evil.

So only quick skim, but just to say PP can we have commando crawling races next time we meet up?!

(that's Alex and Ryder obviously not me and you - cos I'd win those hands down!! )

DebInAustria · 14/01/2009 23:10

lol Sponge at the thought of the 2 of you commando crawling!

DebInAustria · 15/01/2009 07:55

Morning all, how are you all today?

hedgehog1979 · 15/01/2009 09:11

morning all

DH took laptop to work yesterday so no chance to catch up

deb Isaac doesn't roll, but will sit. He seems to love being held under the arms and walking. DH has been demonstrating crawling though in the hope that he will get it.
PP Glad things are going ok for you at work. Am not looking forward at having to express. Am going to have a look on iPlayer to see if I can find that programme as I was on bath duty last night
SBBP I know what you mean about the will, we have updated ours and also had to change our life insurance to ensure that Isaac is now covered if anything happens
mellymell echo what everyone else says 2009 must be better for you
paro my nephew had croup, he did have to go into hospital because it turned into some bronchal infection, but he is much better now
neenz do you know if all areas have an 8month check, and congrats to the twins on passing
katyjo for mia with her chickenpox too
Right must be off to get the pushchair from the car while Isaac is watching Balamory

OP posts:
hedgehog1979 · 15/01/2009 09:17

ohh protein Isaac has chicken, pork, steak, mince, lamb and cheese and milk on his weetabix

My carpet is not the same, but I am resigned to these things now

Morning all, PP your work situation sounds quite good. Am almost jealous of your commute, just because I haven't read more than 4 pages of a book in a row since B was born! I used to read a couple of books a week.

I'm in marketing, communications, press - mostly in media, arts and culture, but I have worked in legal and financial too. As long as I can find something by June, I should be ok - my redundancy and mat pay added up to pretty much what I would have had coming in for that period anyway. I also found out that I can get job seekers allowance, which is a pittance, but any extra cash is not to be sniffed at! So, financially we should be ok, and I will hopefully find something that suits me. Only PITA is that I did plan to go back p/t and I expect that's probably not an option.

Deb, you will remind us all when your moment of TV stardom is upon us, won't you?!

Amberc · 15/01/2009 09:37

Hi Mellymell, welcome back. Can you remind someonw with a seive for a brain what your baby's name is....

Amberc · 15/01/2009 09:39

PS HH, cheese and milk on weetabix sounds a bit grim!

bitofadramaqueen · 15/01/2009 10:12

Morning all. Had a much better night thankfully!

Think I'll get stuck into the protein with S now - its clearly what everyone is doing!

PP the thought of a lunch hour has made me cheer up about going back to work. At least I'll have time to MN .

Chores to do so best get on. HAve a good day everyone!

katyjo · 15/01/2009 12:07

Thanks for all your sympathy about chicken pox, it actually hasn't been too bad so far (touch wood). Hamish has one spot left on his face as he kept picking it and Mia is mostly scabbed over, so praying that we are through the worst of it!

Mia hasn't been sleeping well at all, but I'm really hoping that its just down to c/pox - here's hoping anyway!

Mia is crawling properly now and the last few days has started pulling herself up, she was standing up in her cot when I went to get her this am after her nap, so I'll need to move the mattress down another level!

Mellymell Lovely to see you back, sorry you've had such a rough time of it the last few months. I lived in Sale as a child, and the schools etc were excellent, I went to Brooklands Primary which was really good but that was 20 years ago!

Sorry got to go, someone is shouting!

pleasechange · 15/01/2009 12:38

katyjo I used to live in Sale as well, just off Brooklands Road!

My night was better here as well thankfully so feel much better today

Seems lots of babies are crawling now! A desperately tries to go forwards but is still going backwards. He doesn't let it stop him getting around though - he'll shuffle backwards and swivel round to get there eventually, very cute!

Going out now to baby signing

bitofadramaqueen · 15/01/2009 13:00

No crawling or bum shuffling here!

pleasechange · 15/01/2009 15:21

Make the most of it bdq - gone are the days when I could find Alexander where I'd left him on the floor! And why do they always aim towards the things you don't want them to - dvd player, hearth etc, never toys!

hedgehog1979 · 15/01/2009 15:21

LOL amber at cheese and milk on weetabix - obv I meant milk.

No crawling or bum shuffling action here, although Isaac has suddenly become much more vocal and has said mamamama and dadadada a couple of times, indiscriminately though

bitofadramaqueen · 15/01/2009 15:45

S is very chatty - though nothing remotely decipherable. He's currently telling huge stories while cycling frantically at a carrier bag that's lying at his feet. He's very pleased with the noise it makes.

AliandHerScallywag · 15/01/2009 16:05

Afternoon,

Peter's eczema had another flare up last night resulting in blood being drawn on his cheeks. Decided enough was enough so went back to the drs who immediately prescribed a thicker immoillient and a hydro-cortisone cream. He is a no nonsense old school GP who gets the prescription pad out before I have rambled to my satisfaction. He told me not to do anything faddy about P's diet and 99% of the time eczema has nothing to do with diet as messing around with food leads to everyone "getting neurotic" (as if I would do that...) Maybe I will try P with some diary again. Currently a bit scared about using the H-C cream, but I know Sybil said it made a huge difference.

Bit of an egocentic post, sorry!

AliandHerScallywag · 15/01/2009 16:40

Sponge I have just posted on a weaning thread but I think you might have a better idea about how to combine BLW with FF. The title is something like "BLW and calorie intake". Currently it isn't a ruck and would be safe to post on!! Feel free to ignore if it has turned nasty by the time you read this. The OP said something about night waking as a sign of weaning readiness that is bound to set everyone off (sigh)

pleasechange · 15/01/2009 16:41

oh Ali poor Peter, I hope the HC works. Lol at what doctor said about food. They all seem to have such different opinions on it

Dr said that A's rash on his tummy wasn't ecszema but a fungal infection of some sort but still prescribed HC. It hasn't removed the rash unfortunately and I don't want to use it for longer than a few days. FIL (who was a GP) says that it sounds like a food allergy. Who knows

pleasechange · 15/01/2009 17:26

Well there really are some holier than thou types on MN aren't there. Someone has innocently asked on a thread whether it's worth buying Baby Einstein and the usual suspects are out there slagging anyone who buys it saying they're using it as a babysitter, or that they're oh so stupid for thinking it will make babies cleverer.

Sometimes Alexander has had enough of playing, had enough of books and songs, is not due a sleep/feed and just wants to chill out without me mithering him to do something. A DVD or CBeebies is perfect for those times.

Do those types really play with there babies every waking hour - I doubt it. Wonder what they leave their babies doing when making dinner, washing up, etc .

poppy34 · 15/01/2009 17:36

we are busy aren't we 0can't keep up. had nct then visited a friend who had a newborn (well 3 weeks) - you forget how teeny they are (she was completely fascinated at seeing what they grow into - edie duly obliged with her repertoire of tricks as she is no way a show off ). Does anyone else find their lo is a bit diffident with other babies? edie is interested but also a bit scared - one of the other babies in nct class is cute but very noisy (shouts/squawks) which seems to frighten edie. I'm not unduly worried but just wanted to know if she is the only one who is as nervous as she is curious about other babies.

ali at gp comments - you're not in anyway neurotic and you're his blinking mother...

5gomad I've got your socks so cat me with address etc.

Sponge i really think you should put on camouflage gear and paint for your commando crawl race ...

whinegumssorry to hear aboutyour job issues..does sound a pita that your part time thing may not be feasible but maybe if you've been in the job a while..

deb when is your moment of stardom? and do we need to get the creme egg packages ready for you?

Right allnew where is the thread.. poppy feeling quite militant and willing to ahve a go ( am totally with you re baby einstein etc being a good time out/wind down thing.. the smug know it all twats will be the ones with kids who are busting to go round to others houses to watch tv and know no moderation when they do get something - I'm sure we all know someone who wasn't allowed to do something as a child and then went mental when they could get their hands on it...mind you they're probably too busy home educating or giving their G&T little ones extra lessons to allow them out..

right rant over - I'm off in search of a fight

AliandHerScallywag · 15/01/2009 18:19

That reminds me... been meaning to say since Sunday: I have had my first creme egg of the year, and thought of you lot whilst I scoffed it.

poppy34 · 15/01/2009 18:27

I'm sure you didn't scoff it but ate it in a delicate and lady like way...

AliandHerScallywag · 15/01/2009 18:34

Thanks Poppy and Allnew. The GP is good but not a tea and sympathy type. I saw him when I had a threatened m/c. He was completely efficient and got me a scan immediately, but he wouldn't be the person to cry on, far too gruff for that.

Poppy hope you put the baby Einstein people in place. I have been wondering whether what I said at lunch about me avoiding children's TV for as long as possible came across in the right way: I think it's fine to watch it now, I just don't want to have to start watching it myself for as long as possible!

Poppy, yes Peter goes more introverted when other babies are around. He is q jolly when he is the centre of attention with parents and grandparents. I think Penguin described him as being very "grownup" which is one way of expression of this.
