Bit bored so thought I would start the new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

puree get an oral syringe from the pharmacist, so much easier than a spoon, I didn't know about them last time and me and ds spent many weeks covered in Calpol as he was crap with spoons!

neenz and others thanks for mention of oatibix, which i had forgotten about, it's nice to have an oat-based cereal in the morning that doesn't involve cooking! and seems to fill them up much better than Weetabix.

Caitlin is either teething or suffering from her cold, she woke up crying every hour last night till I gave her medised at 2 and then she slept till 8. the good thing is that till midnight she settled herself again (bar her normal 10pm feed that is) so I can see the end of night wakings in sight (ha ha, as if, ds woke up with a nightmare last night, don't think it ever really ends!!)

poppy34 · 14/01/2009 10:09

hi all - re weetabix, always remember my dad complaining it used to set like cement on bowls (so god knows what your carpet was like HH ).. but I agree doesn't fill you up that much . we're still on porridge here in the morning.

paro nice to hear from you again..was wondering how you were doing.

deb no you're not alone - edie only started properly rolling in the last week and is not keen on sitting up at all.. and she is a pfb (for me anyway)... I agree nothing wrong - she seems quite happy.

poppy34 · 14/01/2009 10:13

sponge just checking out cbeebies radio - it looks great (was trying to find a compromise later for car journeys that didnt involve kids cds or going to

I know its only on digital/net radio but dh has (yet another ) gadget.. a digital radio for the car..

and on subject of radio, radio five seems to ahve turned into radio jeremy kyle in the morning..

DebInAustria · 14/01/2009 11:00

thanks everyone for the reassurance

poppy - we had a wireless internet radio for christmas which is great as we can now listen to uk radio away from the computer, i'll check out the cbeebies station.

katyjo · 14/01/2009 11:05

Quick post

whinegums Mia has chicken pox! I was really late the week before and then this week she is covered in spots! She is fine with it except she isn't sleeping, so Mummy is very tired and grumpy.

No time to post, speak to you all soon.

katyjo · 14/01/2009 11:06

I meant late to waterbabies, not late late!

AliandHerScallywag · 14/01/2009 12:23

agree about Radio 5. Can't listen to it in the mornings now.

Amber - aww thanks what you said about Peter was lovely. How is Luke this morning?

pleasechange · 14/01/2009 14:07

Thanks all for your coil experiences. I ended up going to the family planning clinic last night to ask about it, and have booked to have it fitted in Feb. Am not so worried about it now.

Hi paro, good to hear from you. Sounds like Fleur is coming on leaps and bounds!

You've probably all come across this before, but was a first for me today when I tried to use my Boots points to buy formula and couldn't. How patronising is that, to encourage breastfeeding. Oh, I was planning to go back to work and so DS has to be ff, but no, now I'll change my mind and bf forever because I can't use points

Thanks bdq for protein explanation, I hadn't heard that before. I do a bit of a gap between milk and lunch so guess that's ok.

BTW - what sort of protein are people giving to lo's at the minute? So far Alexander has only had lentils, chickpeas (yes I'm a veggie!), and salmon mixed up in sweet potato

It's this afternoon that I have my phonecall with manager to discuss flexible hours - am nervous about it!

pleasechange · 14/01/2009 14:09

oh and he's had eggs as well

whinegums · 14/01/2009 14:21

Oh, poor Mia, Katyjo, and poor you! Better to have the pox when young though I think - my brother and me had it when we were teenagers, and it was awful, we both ended up with scars.

As of today B can roll from back to front!

DP back from Russia tomorrow - first night of the opera tonight for him to get through before he's allowed back!

I got B a box set of 26 Baby Einstein dvds for £20 from eBid. Am resisting the temptation to put them all on one after the other....

pleasechange · 14/01/2009 14:37

oh missed that katyjo - poor thing with chickenpox. Like whinegums says though, it's supposed to be much 'easier' when they're very young

congrats to B whinegums. Enjoy the baby einstein, they're a godsend here!

systemsaddict · 14/01/2009 14:44

Caitlin too whinegums, just this morning! has been doing the other way (if she has to) for a bit. She looked as if she'd been able to do it for ages too and couldn't understand what the fuss was about! They'll be off soon .... wonder if they'll hit any other milestones the same day?

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 14/01/2009 14:45

katyjo hope mia feels better soon and you get some sleep!

whinegums LOL at the 26 dvds. B will just want to watch the same one over and over!

Debs Ds is so different from the girls. They were both crawling at 6 months and walking at 9. DS , 8 months next week, can get into the crawling position and then he just flops forward. He can shuffle backwards but it really frustrates him as he wants to go forward! He can say Mama which is very cute. DD1 refused to say Mama until she was about 18 months old although she could talk really well, she was just being a little minx and I tickled her until she said it!

Last night was awful as ds lay bside me I heard him vomit, then have diarriah and then he vomitied at on me at which point I decided it was time to clean it up (all happened with in a space of three mins!). DP left the room and returned 10 mins later looking really pale as he had the same as DS! I hope the girls don't get it too!

AliandHerScallywag · 14/01/2009 14:53

Katyjo I xposted earlier sorry to hear about the chickenpox, poor little mite.

Going - poor you and family. Hope it's just a 24 hour thing.

Welldone to the babies managing front to back rolling. We aren't there yet so P just gets cross on his tummy.

whinegums · 14/01/2009 15:06

Tried one Baby Einstein, and B fell asleep almost immediately. I suppose that's a good thing. Goingto... no doubt his 'favourite' will be a) the last one I try and b) the most annoying! Poor DS and DP, hope they both get better soon.

Systems, will have to keep comparing our two.

Allnew, meant to say good luck with that phone call, or if it's already happened, hope it went well.

bitofadramaqueen · 14/01/2009 15:25

Afternoon all, just very quickly skimming because S is having unscheduled nap and bound to wake up. For his 2.30pm feed

katyjo sorry about the chicken pox, and sorry to hear about the school %gomad. deb S has only just mastered rolling, and he chatters away but that's it.

Had a terrible night last night. No more than about 20mins unbroken sleep at any time. No idea what was wrong and couldn't find any calpol

Am off to start a thread on protein in the weaning section while I remember...

neenztwinz · 14/01/2009 15:44

BDQ that sounds terrible! Hope you got some Calpol today.

Allnew, lol at the points debacle at Boots. Ridiculous!

I have only quickly skimmed cos been out for 8mth check this morn (they passed!) and went back to bed at lunch cos I feel I have been coming down with something fro a week or two and it is getting worse every few days. Still fighting it off at the mo though!

How did work go Essie and is it your birthday tomorrow? Bad timing!

bitofadramaqueen · 14/01/2009 16:12

Do you know what - I've actually completely forgot to go and buy more calpol.

My protein thread is here

On the boots points stuff, it's more about preventing the milk companies aggressively marketing and promoting formula rather than promoting breastmilk. It's all part of the same regulations that prevent them advertising formula for under 6 months. I agree that it sucks about the points in boots though, I think its an unintended consequence. I've been a very long standing supporter of the nestle boycott (I suspect there are loads of threads on here about it) which makes it a bit ironic that I ended up feeding S formula!

whinegums · 14/01/2009 16:57

DramaQ, meant to say, yes, would prefer to avoid driving into city centre - not sure how much of it you can drive around atm anyway thanks to that brilliant new tram system(!) - and avoid the big city bypass roundabout thingy too, I always end up going the wrong way there!

Hope you have a better night with S.

spongebrainbigpants · 14/01/2009 17:39

Quick post cos no time to read!

Essie, sent you a birthday text three times today but it won't deliver . Is there something wrong with your phone or mine?! Anyway, hope birthday/first day back at work were good!

Hi to everyone else!

Oh btw, BDQ, we introduced protein from day one - turkey, chicken, cheese, yoghurt. He doesn't have it at every meal though.

poppy34 · 14/01/2009 18:05

whinegums..that is good - must say I was tempted re that whole set (although realised I had quite a few already

katyjo soory about chicken pox

essie many happy returns...

bdq is your protein thread full of the type of badgers I was complaining about.. who are now kicking off re some character in eastenders (saw it before had chance to hide thread)...if not I'll peak as would be interested to see - so far we've had lentils, chicken and cheese...but allnew I understand your frustration (its all a bit soddign random what you get offers on but I have to resist getting too het up before I am as mad as my dad whose hard hitting campaign not to give free ads for companies by turning his carrier bags inside out hasn't ever caught on in the 15 years he has been doing it... )

bitofadramaqueen · 14/01/2009 18:56

I'd have loved all the baby einstein vids for £20.

poppy the protein thread is quite tame (mostly full of people from here) so its safe to look. Had to LOL at your dad's carrier bag campaign. Does he now turn bags for life inside out?

On offers in boots, I get really fed up that they they regularly do offers on huggies, pampers, johnsons and heinz and well, not a lot else. Am loving the 1/3 of all baby stuff in sainsbos ATM, I now have a cupboard full of plum and ellas kitchen stuff.

essie happy birthday!

whinegums I will have a think, although avoiding the city and the bypass leaves the airport and the gyle centre .

Oh, S is screaming, this doesn't bode well...

whinegums · 14/01/2009 19:57

DramaQ, if you're still keen on the DVDs, check out eBid, the guy I bought off had 5 sets left. The box was a bit battered, but it was all sealed, and the DVDs seem fine.

Oooh, the airport!!! Was trying to think of places on the train line between Glasgow and Edinburgh - and failed! Have never been to Linlithgow, Croy, etc etc, but am willing to give them a go. Might post and see if any other Scots mns have any suggestions.

Many happy returns Essie, hope you've survived your first day back.

poppy34 · 14/01/2009 20:05

he probably doesn't believe in bags for life (i haven't asked him)but if he had one no doubt he would.. it goes with a number of his others bonkers ways (fortunately his gf seems to have cured him of his old habit of keeping stuff that might come back into fashion...).. right off to check out the thread with my hard hat on all the same.

bitofadramaqueen · 14/01/2009 20:10

ooh, who did you buy yours from whinegums - I've never even heard of ebid before. Just having a look now.
