Oh that looks nice will maybe take DH's niece there.

I was at school in Oxford for my final year and it is indeed lovely.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 12/01/2009 23:06

And alos thanks for the review, always get worried when going to stay somewhere

DebInAustria · 13/01/2009 06:13

Essie - good luck at work, hope Iestyn is OK at nursery.

5gomad - if dh's niece is busy I'll fly over - mmm afternoon tea.

Morning everyone else, how are you all this morning? My turn to do the early shift and get up with the boys for school, and do a bit of last minute revision with Stefan for his German test today.

Better night with Ethan last night, he only woke at 4.00 for a feed - hope we've turned the corner, he's supposed to be moving in with his brothers soon.

DebInAustria · 13/01/2009 06:24

5gomad - that hotel also has great reviews on trip advisor if you search on there for Haus Fletcher you'll find us too! Are your place on Trip Advisor?

pureeandpearls · 13/01/2009 07:37

Essie- good luck today.

Looking forward to seeing the London ladies later, though may be a smudge later than Sponge as have to take babypearls to the doctor (again.)

hedgehog1979 · 13/01/2009 08:47

essie good luck today

I too have had to scrub up this morning as I am off for my final return to work meeting

5go Looks lovely, Oxford is one place I have never been too, other than as a kid to the train station as my mum used to have an aunt and uncle who lived near there.

deb Well done Ethan, Isaac has gone back to a 5am wake up for a feed, which will be a prob when I go back to work coz he then isn't waking til 8am

am that I won't be there for your meet up London Ladies was so looking forward to it [grrrr]

pleasechange · 13/01/2009 09:07

essie hope your first day at work goes ok

5gomad am also that looks lovely

debs glad you had a better night

Have a smear this morning, am not looking forward to it. You'd think that after pregnancy and childbirth it would seem minor but no!

Amberc · 13/01/2009 09:40

Allnew - I had my first smear after the baby a few weeks ago and it was still horrid even though i thought I would have been over it after my 4 (yes 4!) membrane sweeps. I also thought it would feel like dangling a string in the albert hall but it didn't (thankfully!!).

Good luck Essie for today!

Luke went through the night last night - thankyou Hipp Organic Bedtime milk! Well did from 6.45pm to 11pm dream feed (with the wondermilk) and then from 11.30 to 6.20 - hurrah! He seems to want to drop his first nap though and has already dropped the afternoon nap unless he's really dog tired/over stimulated- anyone else found this?

bitofadramaqueen · 13/01/2009 09:56

Morning all, DH has S at swimming so can finally post properly! Although, have forgotten much of what was said over the last few days.

Essie good luck today, and allnew hope smear goes ok. Because I had loads of problems with my nether regions after the birth, I had midwives and doctors having a nose around for weeks and weeks so am now quite blase about having someone from the medical profession prodding about my undercarriage. However, I do remember how I used to dread such things so I know where you're coming from. at dangling like a string in the albert hall amber. %gomad hope you have a lovely time in Oxford. I've never been, but it is one of my must see places to visit. Not that there'll be many places being visited this year. Have almost resigned myself to not getting a holiday this summer. Have only been on statutory maternity pay (rubbish!) so things have been tight and I've managed to build up the credit card a wee bit (although not loads, thankfully) so I think our priority this year will be making sure we're back in the healthy black before spending money on holidays. Unless anyone has super cheap holiday ideas?

Hope the london ladies have a good meetup today. Glasgow gals, it seems like a Friday is the best meetup day, but unfortunately atm I'd struggle to get to Glasgow before I'd have to turn around and come home again. Am sending you telepathic messages that you really want to have a wee day out in Edinburgh

Puree - hope all ok at the docs.

Amber that's so good that Luke went through. S is sleeping a bit better now (although he was wide awake at 5am this morning) but I might try that milk if he starts waking regularly again. S doesn't always have an afternoon nap (despite rarely sleeping for more than 20 mins at lunchtime ).

Deb glad to hear that you had a good night too!

poppy34 · 13/01/2009 10:07

amber yep we're onto two naps a day now too (after definite three - one at about 10 and one at about 1/2... )

re flat nipples - me too (and I got messed about with due to retained placenta) - nice midwife suggested nipple shields which really helped but I'm keeping clear of b/f sites (amber there are a number of threads..one about the tory ad, one about "what do people mean re b/f didn't work" , one about sma ad.. I could continue )....

essie hope all goes well today..

allnew good luck with smear - would agree that am more blase re checks now but smears are still bloody painful - its not natural to have a sharpened lolly stick prodded up your fanjo.
bdq glad things easing up on sleep front..

london ladies see you later...

Essie3 · 13/01/2009 10:24

Everyone, take back your good lucks! My boss called at 9 and I'm going in tomorrow instead of today. Don't ask!

Back later - want to go to a baby clinic, and find some way of expressing without the attachment to the pump (it's in London, Tim's bringing it later today). May have to force feed Iestyn!

bitofadramaqueen · 13/01/2009 10:25

Sponge I wanted to reply to your weaning thread, but thought I'd do it here! Am assuming your friends babies are about 28 weeks if they started at 24 weeks which is about the same as S (who's FF and on purees).

S is a bit textbook when it comes to milk feeds, so is now on 4 8oz feeds per day (he doens't finish all of those). AFIK all the puree books say that once baby is on 3 meals a day they need between 500-600 mls per day which could easily be given in 3 bottles.
However, it could also be given in 5 smaller bottles if that suited their babies. S currently has a bottle on milk with his lunch, but I'm hoping that he'll drop that once we start protein as its not a good idea to be giving milk with protein meals. He'd then get milk on waking, milk mid afternoon and then milk at bedtime.

I think that the HV is an old-school hard-liner and was a bit that she was advocating filling up on sugar laden puddings. I think hidden in her dubious advice was a message that at 7 months the babies nutrional needs could be met on less milk than they were being given.

I'm hoping that the less bottles S is on, the easier it will be to transfer to a beaker when the time comes, but that's what suits me and S. Only your friends I think can know what's best for their babies once they've taken into account the relevant guidance.

On BF, I too continue to have issues about the fact that I couldn't and the lack of appropriate support.

{blush] have just posted this on the wrong thread. Thankfully nothing controversial

pleasechange · 13/01/2009 12:02

lol amber, and ouch at 4 sweeps. I only had one, which was bad enough

bdq I didn't know that about protein and milk. Should I be leaving longer between protein lunch and a bottle?

On the sleep front it didn't go well last night. Although A's second tooth has now made an appearance so maybe that's why

Can I ask a very personal question - don't answer if you don't want! Does anyone here use a coil and if so how do you find it?

systemsaddict · 13/01/2009 13:28

glad you asked allnew, was going to post about having Mirena coil fitted (thanks to discussion on this thread!) with all this talk of smears. I love it - I love the security of nearly 100% safe contraception, after a week's initial bleeding I've only had on-and-off spotting since, and I don't have to remember to take or do anything. Fitting wasn't wonderfully fun but nothing I couldn't handle after childbirth.

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 13/01/2009 14:02

Allnew I was going to ask the same! SA does the nurse put it in, do they have them in the surgery or do you request it in advance?

hedgehog1979 · 13/01/2009 15:03

Afternoon all,

Well it is official. I return to work full time on 2nd feb, on the upside I should qualify for a bonus despite having been on ML, but the company I work for do not offer childcare vouchers although DH's comapny do.

Isaac has helped himself to some of my jacket potato and last nights left over curry for lunch and left quite a pleasant mess on the floor (think I will let DH clear that one up).

Is anyone a 24 fan? Did you see the new episode last night - OMG!!

Essie good luck rescinded and then resent for tomorrow

All this talk of smears reminds me that I must make an appointment for mine, but even having given birth I still don't want one. Maybe I might just get PG again but that would make things at work a little tricky as both my line manager and area manager are due in May.

whinegums · 13/01/2009 15:04

BDQ - if the others are up for it, I would come to Edinburgh, but not the city centre if that's ok? Can you think of anywhere out of town, or is there anywhere between Edinburgh and Glasgow?

Allnew, I have a Mirena as well, and it's great. I had one before, had it removed when the 5 years were up, went onto Cerazette, and got pregnant while taking that! I definitely wanted something more reliable, and exactly what SA says. I had mine done at the local family planning clinic, as my GPs don't do it. TBH, even if they did, I'd be happier going to a dedicated coil clinic, as they'll be more experienced at fitting them. Not the most comfortable thing to have done, but well worth it IMO.

Katyjo are you around? Didn't see you at WB's again today, but there were parking nightmares so that's maybe why. Hope everything is ok.

pleasechange · 13/01/2009 15:26

Thanks SA and whinegums, that's good to know. I think it's the actual fitting bit that's putting me off - maybe if they didn't call it a 'coil' it would help, as the very thought makes me want to keep my legs crossed!

HH glad you'll get your bonus. I think mine is in theory pro-rata'd, but in reality I can't imagine it amounting to very much, if anything, this year.

I love 24 - but I don't have Sky . When I was on maternity leave in June I watched all of the previous series, loved it!

DebInAustria · 13/01/2009 15:29

I had the Mirena fitted after Tristan, unfortunately I bled on and off for the 1st 6 months but after that it was great, I'd have one now but they cost 400 Euros here, and that's on the national system! I'll wait until we move back!!!

hedgehog1979 · 13/01/2009 16:13

allnew I won't spoil anything for you then, but you might be able to get it on skyplayer although not sure if you have to have a sky subscription to use it. Might be worth a look though

poppy34 · 13/01/2009 17:36

hedgehog think its very wise to leave that baked potato.. sadly I couldn't in all conscience leave the mess where I broke a milk bottle wtih the pushchair on the front steps for dh.

essiethats a bugger re your start date..how did you get at the health centre?

very much enjoyed the london ladies meet up -think we left sufficient mess behind at the restaurant..

poppy34 · 13/01/2009 17:37
