on positive front its defo creme egg season - is there any reason why this cannot be introduced to a weaning diet?

poppy34 · 09/01/2009 18:53

facebook is a bad thing..friend suggested I look up new nanny and now I wish I hadn't....

hedgehog1979 · 09/01/2009 18:55

poppy see no reason why creme eggs cannot be included in a balanced diet.

v.true - hedgehog dh just pointed out friend in question is a bit ott so am now quite happy.

am I allowed to be proud or is shame more appropriate as one of the first thing that edie has learned to recognise and respond to is the opening credits on a baby einstein dvd

hedgehog1979 · 09/01/2009 19:05

think it is ok, Isaac responds to the NCIS theme music and also Meercat Manor theme (?)

OP posts:
poppy34 · 09/01/2009 19:10

lol I feel better now - never seen ncis but my mum was raving about it .. I take it its good (and was just bemoaning to dh the lack of decent tv at the mo last night)

hedgehog1979 · 09/01/2009 19:16

NCIS is on FX at 8, if you have sky. Isaac has it on while we bath and feed him. Then story and bed.
Tis along the lines of CSI,

Poppy, what did you see on FB about the nanny? You'd think she'd make her page private!

HH, snuggled up in bed, that sounds like bliss. I am often sad that I can't go to bed like that with the DTs. I could do it, but keeping two babies happy in bed is harder than one cos it is hard to cuddle/feed both at the same time!

spongebrainbigpants · 09/01/2009 20:05

Ok, my turn for a rant .

Is no one impressed that I met Robert Plant?!!!

Or does no one believe me?!

bitofadramaqueen · 09/01/2009 20:12

Sponge LOL at your post!!!! I was just reading along, thinking I dont have too much chat to contribute, think I'll get to the end and just mark my spot and then you made me laugh. Thanks . Oh, and I believe you and am impressed.

5gomad would have happily got your socks but poppy beat me to it.

Hedgehog your cuddly afternoon sounds ace. We dont have tv in the bedroom but might have to swipe DHs laptop and try that out sometime.

Had a really good day today too actually. Babysensory this morning, lunch with some nice mums I've met, reasonable walk and then turned the living room into a big play area with the mats I bought and S's christmas toys. He was on great form today and lots of fun. We're trying to get him to go to bed a bit later now he's having tea(he was crashing out at 6.30pm) and that's been successful so far. Fingers crossed!

bitofadramaqueen · 09/01/2009 20:15

Oh, meant to ask neenz - you said you would be giving the DTs about 10 savoury ice cubes worth of puree at 6-7 month - is that each per meal? Seems an awful lot so wasn't sure if that's what you gave them per day or between the two of them. S is on 4 or 5 for lunch or a full tommee tippee snack snack pot size (depending on what I froze it in). He's only been getting about 3 cubes at tea, but we've only introduced that this week so will increase again over next few days.

Question for anyone giving LOs toast - what bread do you use? White, brown? Was planning on giving S his first bit of toast tomorrow but have a very seeded batch loaf and dont fancy giving him that.

Rolf · 09/01/2009 20:25

BDQ - I've given Thea wholemeal toast soaked in vegetable soup and she was ok with it.

Season 4 of The Wire arrived today from Amazon - DH and i are really enjoying it.

systemsaddict · 09/01/2009 20:26

Sponge a bit more info as promised. The book I mentioned is still available, the one I followed is called the Carbohydrate Addicts' Lifespan Programme (please ignore cheesy Americanisms!), by Richard and Rachael Heller. The basic principle is to eat low-carb for most of the day, following quite restricted food lists, but one hour in 24 is 'reward meal' hour where you can eat a meal which balances carbs, protein and veg (hence my daily chocolate). I found it really manageable to follow.

It worked wonders for me when nothing else did, but you would need to check with your consultant how it would affect your TTC. I was extremely surprised how much it affected my milk supply, but the principle of the diet is based on insulin control, so it must have an effect on the whole endocrine system I suppose. Looking back, I now wonder whether our difficulties ttc ds might have been linked to the way I was eating. Guess I will never know!

If it isn't suitable, the Hellers have also written a step-by-step version called 'Healthy for Life' where you gradually build up in babysteps and develop control of your insulin levels and food cravings that way, but I have never got this to work for me. Without the craving control of the full version, I don't really have the capacity to choose my foods at all (said through a mouthful of mince pie that i don't think i even wanted )

If interested you can usually get all their books cheap on Amazon used.

systemsaddict · 09/01/2009 20:29

Fabulous, enjoy Rolf - Caitlin's every evening for her first few months was spent attached to me in front of The Wire season 4 and 5 - hope it doesn't lead to any ill effects in later life!!

needahand · 09/01/2009 20:32

Essie if that makes you feel better, I give SJ mush and even horror jars!! And he seems to be thriving and happy enough

puree RE temperature could it be tonsilitis or something. I agree with josey's advice and would be wary of seizure, I would give tepid bath (not cold very important) and calpol. Not sure you can give nurofen to babies but if you can alternate. One calpol, one nurofen etc

Sorry proud mummy alert. SJ rolled ages ago twice and one day and never did it since. Today he has apparently decided to bite the bullet and can roll from back to front and front to back and apparently spent his day doing so and laughing about it and being very proud. He also lift his bum in the air and wiggle so I think it won't be long until he goes commando training like Alex!!

bitofadramaqueen · 09/01/2009 20:38

needahand well done SJ! - must be something in the water, S has been the same this week! At baby sensory everyone was commenting that he was much more active after the two week break and my lungs nearly burst as I swelled with pride .

Thanks Rolf. Think I might get some smooth (i.e. without loads of seeds) for him and try that.

poppy34 · 09/01/2009 20:53

she had neenz but her face has a somewhat arty photo on it.. call me old fashioned but I prefer to see the standard here is me/me and dh on hols type thing... that said she is very sweet and as dh pointed out given her age there'd be something wrong if she wasnt well into facebook

spongebrainbigpants · 09/01/2009 20:54

SA, thanks for that. Will look into it - certainly sounds like the sort of thing I need.

needahand, way to go SJ! Talking of commando crawling, you know I mentioned carpet burn, well today his right arm was actually bleeding alot cos he's made them so sore . What the hell can I do? May go and ask for advice in development thread.

BDQ, we've avoided seeded bread - brown 'smooth' bread is what I use for him.

Glad I made you laugh! You're still the only person to be impressed though!!

josey · 09/01/2009 20:55

Who is Robert Plant?

I meant to post earlier but I obviously had my knickers in a knot lol!

5gomad, I was thinking about you and your DD last night, and its very possible she is picking up on spirits as children of there age still have strong connections to the spirit world(so say) My DS was very bizzar when he was 3/4 and used to speak to my Dad not audially but you would see him looking out the window or something and he would say Im talking to Grandpa he is sitting up there. He was also away with my Mum and driving through the Lakes he suddenly got very excited and shouted I remember this place I lived here when I was a little girl
hopefully it will pass and she will get used to it. Hope you sort your school prob also.

Poppy - why am I super Josey?

oh I forgot who asked about the manager but I did a plan after dd1 took months for work to sort it, I did have to go in to go through a proceedure and HR crap and in the end it took so bloody long I got a transfer to a diff job and didnt start lol! What are you doing for CHild care when you go back? can you try the CC out for the avo while you go even make a day of it and treat yourself?

OK best clean up quickly get a glass of wine and bed to watch T&R sod the tidying haha

poppy34 · 09/01/2009 20:59

you are superjosey cos of your fab rant/putting world to rights re parenting/weaning.

robert plant was in led zeppelin.. sponge -that is quite good (better than once seeing patsy kensit in the street).

spongebrainbigpants · 09/01/2009 21:21

Josey, Robert Plant

Btw, is that really the view from your window?! If it is I am seriously !

pleasechange · 09/01/2009 21:26

thanks all for the advice

needahand I think I will try that cream you recommended - the poor wee thing is scratching like mad when he's undressed

josey it was me with the manager question. I'm not using childcare until July - luckily DH is taking a few months off from Feb but because he's leaving work soon they won't let him have time off

josey · 09/01/2009 21:28

Oh I was a bit ranty wasnt I

I tell you what a slummy weaning mummy I am, I bought aunty bessies frosen tatties and carrot and neaps, they are in perfect portion form, few secs in the micro and there you go!!!! dont even need to make the mush yourself.. Plus when asda do the bags for £1 who can knock it. But hey Im not fussy my kids will eat what they will eat.

Those of you that cant get your babies to open mouths for food, that can be them asserting themselves it may pass.

OR now I know I do weird and wonderful this with Oli cause of therapists BUT root about in there mouth with your finger or a tooth brush along the gums and pop the cheeks....Oli eats twice as much when I do this as apparently it opens up there mouths and activates the senses.

josey · 09/01/2009 21:35

Yes that is Bennachie, it gets surrounded by the most amazing skys I was so chuffed I managed to capture that Pic, it does look like I have copied it from one of those amazing emails. I just opened my bedroom window and click. I also see that from most of the rooms in my house.

Sorry for causing though the outbuildings there is talk of an asda going there, hopefully NOT

josey · 09/01/2009 21:39

Allnew can you get diprabase(sp) from your Dr? My DS has this his skin hardly bothers him as we know what to avoid the trigger, but it works wonders.

Good luck with the manager, I think some of them do this as a testing to see how avaliable you can make yourself IYKWIM
