Am I first? Couldn't think of what to call it....

VS - I think she is hungrier, yes, I tried giving more milk, which helped, but then yesterday she spurned more milk for more food (I guess she can't take both) and she did sleep better last night. Woke once at 5.30 for drink water and then 6.30 properly. She is never hungry for her breakfast til about 8 though - does anyone else have this? Should I stop giving a ten o clock feed?

ElizabethanFilth · 09/01/2009 19:49

Oh PFj, so so sorry.
Thank heavens for small mercies though, you got to say goodbye.
My sympathies doll.
xxxxx

LadyBee · 09/01/2009 19:58

PFJ, I'm sure it meant a huge amount to your Nan that she saw you and I'm pleased you got those final moments with her. Lots of hot sweet tea and cosy food for you m'dear, and a sympathetic shoulder squeeze from me.

ThePFJ · 09/01/2009 20:24

Thanks girls, don't let me bring down the mood though. I look at Jack and I see my nan living on through him.

Jack can now clap his hands together if I ask him to while showing him. Well.. I say clap his hands.. he kinda of slaps the top of his hand with the other one ...bless.

BTW He was really well behaved on the train there and back, and no pooey nappies either. Phew.

xx

chipmonkey · 09/01/2009 20:48

PFJ, so sorry
Your Nan sounds like a fab lady!

Happy Birthday VS!

ThePFJ · 09/01/2009 21:01

Ahhh retail therapy. Just bought Jack some yummy new sleepsuits from mothercare.

chipmonkey · 09/01/2009 22:04

I hope that retail therapy extended to clothes for you and not just the baby who is oblivious to how he looks!

SalLikesCoffee · 09/01/2009 22:18

PFJ, I am so sorry. Glad you got to say good bye.

EllieG · 10/01/2009 10:37

Just adding my condolences for PFJ xx

ThePFJ · 10/01/2009 14:59

Thanks again girls, its so nice to be able to talk to you all.

Today Jack ate a whole rusk without dropping/throwing/crumbling it into bits. He is loving being on the very high setting on his highchair and surveying the room. He'll sit in there for hours with his toys if I let him.

Just winding down for me today really, unfortunately chipmonkey no clothes for me, but I did splash on a dark grey lovely baggy woolly jumper with a front pouch at christmas for me to slob about the house in.My mums here atm to help me with Jack for a little while now so I'll try to take full advantage.

Ellie... on that thread I agree with the 'not making food time a stressful time' advice someone smart gave. Hopefully will be just a phase. I'd let her see you all enjoying various foods you have lovingly and masterfully prepared while going mmmmmmmmm lot?? She may also get jealous if you say its all yours and she cant have any because thats not what she chose perhaps?

xxx

EllieG · 10/01/2009 20:15

She'll probably just go hurray I don't have to eat it

[hugs] to you still x

BabyBee is sicky
We had a vomiting baby last night, managed to get through most of the day with him keeping very small meals down but fluids are still a problem and when I breastfed him before bed tonight he brought most of it up again.
I feel really awful that I can't even really comfort him with that, he clamours to feed and I feel like I have to take him off before he has too much and it puts too much strain on his tum, and he finds the vomiting quite upsetting (as do we - it's quite shocking the first time).
FInally got a wet nappy at about 2pm thank goodness, we'd been on to NHS Direct and would have called back if we hadn't seen one much after that. Oh well...when he's not being sick he's fairly happy - a bit clingy and touchy but I would be too. Hope this passes quickly

EllieG · 10/01/2009 20:32

Oh poor babybee.

Molly has had sicky bugs a couple of times, first time had to goto hospital. What docs have always said is to stop food, and give dioralite for preference (is more quickly absorbed), or if will not take, water, in very small amounts very regularly. I was advised to give 5ml amounts every 5 mins, using a syringe. After a while I let her have sips from bottle every 5 mins but not too much - if overload tummy they puke all up. Is very time consuming but does keep their fluid levels up.

Hope he is OK xxx

Poor thing. How is he feeling tonight? Good sign re wet nappy though. It's quite scary how quickly these things happen, but on the upside - once they're ok it's ilke it never happened! Hope he feels better soon and that you get some sleep tonight.

Hmm, no idea if you'd even get it in the shops at this time of the year (though Tesco's always seem to have a lot of out-of-season fruit), but would he be happy to eat something containing a lot of water, e.g. watermelon? Kind of disguising the fluids? Can imagine it being very messy though - haven't had enough guts to try messy finger foods myself.

LAdyBee, bfing is absolutely fine with a tummy bug, it doesn't qualify as "dairy" and is the most easily absorbed food. A lot of GPs will tell you to stop bfing but that's because they don't know a lot about bfing!

MadameOvary · 10/01/2009 22:58

Hi PFJ - sorry to hear about your lovely Nan but you sound at peace with the way things went which is so important.
Ladybee - hope Babybee is doing ok. Syringes are a brilliant way to give medicine.

Ellis ate toast, porridge, Quorn and Broccoli yesterday and today, am so chuffed!
She has also started to "give" me her toys which is really sweet.

ALso had lovely moment when BF a couple of nights ago, she came off the boob all sleepy and said "Mama" before nodding off again.

However I have mastitis AGAIN - only had it last month. Got some amoxycillin so fingers crossed. Had to take diclofenac as ibuprofen not making a dent in the attendant aches - feel very sore and tired.

chipmonkey · 11/01/2009 02:32

MadameOvary, I feel your pain! I have had mastitis on every baby. Horrible, isn't it?

scorpio1 · 11/01/2009 11:26

Madame - oh pooh for you i hope it gets better. Sooooooooo cute about her sleepy mama noise! i love sleepy druggy bm looks

Ladybee - oh goodness, poor you too! Hope he gets better soon, its very scary isnt it sometimes.

DH is fighting in feburary too, away. Feel nervous cos of before, ho hum. July is home but May is away - again i am in woking in May - anyone want to meet? I can travel a bit.

Went shopping yesterday and bought a new sofa but ours is soooooo dead, we needed one. I heart it. Have to paint our front room, last time we did it took ages, i hate painting so much but dh says we can do it and wont let me hire anyone!

Soooo need to go food shopping today, unless dinner will be mouldy cabbage soup. and stale crust.

scorpio1 · 11/01/2009 11:27

Mimi is down to morning and night bf only already. She loves her cup but im doing better, i really enjoy her feeds now. I'm going to carry on morning and night forever

LadyBee · 11/01/2009 13:10

That's great Scorpio - I know what you mean about enjoying the feeds more now that they've cut down, I also feel like that.
Plust we're also painting our front room. (are you me?)
BabyBee is much better today, well..not vomiting but we did have terrible nappy incident this morning so I guess whatever it was is working it's way through (sorry, TMI).
He's knackered, we're on our second nap of the day already and it's only 1

Here's a question. Is there any point to us saying 'no' and moving BabyBee away from things we don't want him to touch or is it too early and we should just move him. I assumed that from now on he might as well start learning the word even if he doesn't really understand. Sometimes I think he does understand, other times he just looks back over his shoulder, gives a laugh or a grin and continues climbing onto the tv.

scorpio1 · 11/01/2009 13:36

LadyBee - yes, there is a point! We do, you just say no sternly and move them away from whatever they are touching. It takes a bit for them to get used to it, but it will work eventually

Yes i must be you, lol. Painting this room will take ages as we have to remove border, gloss, then carpet, etc etc.

Mimi doesn't even miss her booby. I have cried about 5 times but i feel more happy than sad.

MadameOvary · 11/01/2009 13:39

Dont think it is too early, as long as the "No" is calm and clear and accompanies the action.
DD squeals in protest whenever I remove her from something she wants to explore but responds to calm mostly, unless she's tired.
