Am I first? Couldn't think of what to call it....

VS - I think she is hungrier, yes, I tried giving more milk, which helped, but then yesterday she spurned more milk for more food (I guess she can't take both) and she did sleep better last night. Woke once at 5.30 for drink water and then 6.30 properly. She is never hungry for her breakfast til about 8 though - does anyone else have this? Should I stop giving a ten o clock feed?

ScorpiowithabigS · 01/02/2009 13:37

Are the 2 BF actually doing much though? She is having 2-3 FF a day now. Thankyou though - Jamie had chickenpox at 14 weeks and it was awful.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 13:49

Well Bas has dropped two feeds but still atb probably seven a day (fine by me as he's doing well and I'm not risking it LOL)

I'd tjhink it is tbh as the milk is tailored to both her needs and the amount she's drinking. Now if you pack it in it's not going to hurt her but - it's like the difference between carrots from Savers and ones fresh from the agrden: you won't go wrong with the savers ones but you know the fresh ones have that little 'edge' iykwim?

VictorianSqualor · 01/02/2009 14:06

It's mainly an immune system boost now.

As she is down to only two feeds a day they will more concentrated so she'll still be getting a good amount from it.

Also from 6-12 months Mimi's risk of obesity by the age of six is three times less than if she was being FF now. Heart disease is a lower risk too. From 1-2years your risk of breast cancer is lowered by around 8%, Mimi is less likely to need orthodontic treatment as a teenager and she is likely to have higher results in intelligence scores in later life. (As complied by the NCT based on a number of different research papers).

So not quite the difference between savers carrots and posh carrots, as they both have the same vitamins just one will have less whereas BM has stuff that we don't even know about so can't replicate in formula, but it's a similar notion.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 14:09

Ah no VS vitamins in veg die after just minutes so they don't have the same

PMSL

Would I be upsetting anyone is I said look FF won't kill her but BF is better for her? Bet I'll get hung up and I could post a list of exceptions / disclaimers but cannot be arsed to will say if anyone is offended they are covered by a disclaimer

Have fiath in your eprsonal choices, only you live your life

VictorianSqualor · 01/02/2009 14:13

Is this when I get all Lactivist and start posting about formula contamination

Nah, in all seriousness if you want to stop, then stop. At any age.

If you continue you will be lowering risks, but it still doesn't guarantee she or you won't ever have any of the problems I mentioned. It's about weighing up the risks and your needs right now. You've done fab to get so far.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 14:37

Ah go al Lactivisty at a non convert wontcha LOL [wink[- IIRC I get my tits out fer the ald more than you do at this point

Seriously what's this FB event you messages me about? I accepted the invite but my FB is pissing me about and I can't read what it was on about atm (can't reply to any mesages eitehr so not ignoring people- my friend got enagaed and I can't message him either- annoying!)

VictorianSqualor · 01/02/2009 14:44

Yep, I think you do
Except for the last two days Constant attachment.

It's about facebook banning and deleting profiles for having babies breastfeeding as a profile picture. They claim it is obscene

Basically all you have to do is put any breastfeeding picture (even madonna and child ) as your profile picture on that day and say you are 'attending'.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 14:59

Okeydoke no probs- will see what I can find

Did see knockersonmyheads's pic that wa eleted; pathetic! Even Sam- let's face it 9 year old aspergic boy should be most shocked- thought it ws an adorable picture and thinks FB are nuts!

ScorpiowithabigS · 01/02/2009 15:14

Thankyou muchly you two i don't really want to stop. more sort of wondering is 2 making much difference, and if its not, then why bother iyswim [uneducated in BF emoticon]

I do feel proud i have done this so far though. I will for sure be BF dc4.

SalLikesCoffee · 01/02/2009 18:20

Well, last night wasn't all bad. We had our moments where we were looking at eachother, wondering whether we are breaking the habit - and the blind trust - in three days, but he's still all smiley this morning, so he's either resigned himself to a lifetime stuck with us, or we didn't actually do any lasting damage!

Ah Peachy, I'm not offended at all - thought it was quite a tactful answer. Lol at carrots example.

Power was off here all day, so we went to Bluewater for some warmth and lunch. Had a lovely pizza and wine. Hmm.

Was nice to come back to a warm and cosy flat - in contrast to the freezing place we left behind! How I missed a log fire (or even gas would have done).

EllieG · 01/02/2009 19:37

Well I am offended and am preparing to flounce. Just you wait, any minute now I will take my super-saver carotty milk and get on my high horse and gallop away

Seriously though - VS, my lovely, I wish you were here - my friend is going through exactly the same as I did now - her little girl isn't gaining weight (she's 2 months now) and they have told her she MUST top up with ff. She's still using nipple shields and they think this has affected her supply. She's still using them cos it hurts her so much to bf without - no one ever helped her to do it properly in hospital etc and now no one is helping her sort the supply prob and how to increase, they are just going FF! NOW! She is so upset, and I do not know enough to help her. Have given her LL league no but she is so demoralised I think she will cave. IT MAKES ME SO CROSS - sorry for yelling - when I think if women were just given better advice in hospital, that's two babies I know would have been bf. And I bet there's loads more. The hf said to me that we have a poor rate of bf over here, but do they not realise there is something they can do about this?

I am really starting to think I should raise this with someone. The MW know bugger all in hospital, they need to be trained as bf counselors I think but some of them didn't care. One of them on my first night with Molly told me she was 'ravenous' and went off to give her formula, silly cow.

Maybe I should contact the NCT or something.

Sorry, will come off soapbox now. Am just so angry about it after hearing from my poor mate and how rotten she was feeling.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 19:50

Ellie don't know abut Jersey but most MW's with an interest in BF here dont become counsellors but they tdo the UNICEF BFI ocurse (baby friendly initiative)- search and email them, they're fab and will be intrested.

EllieG · 01/02/2009 19:54

Thanks peachy I'll do that. Incidentally, am going to speak to my mate who is social worker in my team, but has recently come over from south wales, so might have a few ideas to help riven if she still needs it.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 20:00

Oh thanks Ellie- am hoping to go over to support ehr byut have a feeling that I may be snowed in so any advice very welcome indeed

LadyBee · 01/02/2009 20:10

Sal, Sal, do you have blankets of snow all around your place??? Look out the window!!!!

EllieG · 01/02/2009 20:14

I want snow. We never get any. [stamps foot at unfairness]

BTW HELLO knitter! I was wondering where you were - I even asked 'Where's knitter?' the other day, but obviously, since you weren't there, you couldn't answer. Glad all well tho x

I am going away for a weekend in May have decided. Going to see my sis in London all by myself! Leaving baby! I think I am excited about it, but already worrying about whether she will forget me/be OK/still be alive when get back after a weekend with Dad.

Does anyone live in London could meet me for a cuppa or some gin?

OP posts:
LadyBee · 01/02/2009 20:16

DP has just gone out on a snow-mission to get cash and cakes. It's necessary to have cakes to survive snow. (Cash is for CM).

I wonder whether transport will be working tomorrow - is it very wrong to not so secretly hope the trains aren't running?

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 01/02/2009 20:17

Just a light scattering Ladybee- but supposed to be tonight it comes in.

But I also get excited so suspect it won't happen and I will be very sad then.

RobertPattinsonComeToMomma · 01/02/2009 20:17

Nah, Ellie, they always remember you! Makes it damn near impossible to run away!

LadyBee · 01/02/2009 20:21

Yes. Where in London does your sister live?

EllieG · 01/02/2009 20:23

O Robertpattinson I'm sure what you say is true but I have forgotten who you are - am sure I know you and you have just sneakily name-changed to confuse me, but am too lazy to read back through thread to find out

OP posts:
EllieG · 01/02/2009 20:25

ladybee my sis lives in Highgate, am not sure where that is but could be northish. We could always meet in the middle? That would be SO cool!

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 01/02/2009 20:28

Ladybee, until I read your post I didn't even know it snowed!!! It's all beautiful and white outside, but I missed the actual event! (Closed the blinds earlier and pretended it's not cold outside )

I love snow. When R was born (3rd Apr) the weather was so weird. We went in on Thursday morning with the sun shining, and on Friday morning I was lying in bed, looking out the window with R drinking and the biggest snowflakes I've ever seen falling down outside. It was so beautiful and perfect and now I always get a bit soppy when it's snowing.

Ellie, I'm in London (well, Greenwich but can come in to central London) and I'm up for a drink.

Btw, talking of, where's Oma? No trying to get out of our meetup now you've got your freedom, are you?? Once my month end is done at work (so from week of 16th should be ok), I would love to meet up. Ladybee, you still game? (And anyone else - pretend you're seeing the dentist or something. I'll bring a drill with me. [freaks self out as terrified of dentist emoticon]).

VictorianSqualor · 01/02/2009 20:31

You should know by now it's always chipmoneky with the namechanges

I'm seeing my BfN tutor tomorrow, I'll see what info I can gather about Jersey. BFing really shouldn't be hurting her I'd suggest, for now, until we can get her some help, maybe hand expressing and using ebm from a cup?
