EMPLOYMENT GURU - If i dont return to work do i have to repay childcare vouchers paid to me by employer during maternity leave?

chocolategal · 20/01/2009 20:27

aww sorry your feeling glum daisy , i didnt shower or dress today until 11.30am but it felt good having a lazy day just me and my boy!

how much tummy time do you give your LO's? my HV has made me paranoid that E will get a flat head!? he doesnt at moment but he does have a rather large bald patch on the back of his head where he rubs his head from side to side. He is only flat on his back at night time, during the day he is in my arms, in bouncer or in sling.......surely thats not on back too much!?

watching trinny and susannah, strangely i really like them

chocolategal · 20/01/2009 20:34

sounds like a lovely party vbab , hope your DS gets better soon, sounds like he is already on the mend.
sorry no help with your childcare vouchers, was it ceebee who was the expert?

Ceebee74 · 20/01/2009 20:40

Daisy I will try and find the link about the childcare vouchers but if your MN mate wants to know more or whatever, she can contact me...if she does, do you still have my e-mail address from the 'secret stork/text buddy?? If so, feel free to pass it on to her and I can try and help her. Vbab not sure about whether you need to pay them back...I will see if I can find out for you

Chocolategal very little tummy time here Firstly, I always forget about it plus times when I can do it are quite limited as I can't do it when DS1 is around as he would jump on him! Secondly, on the very rare times I have remembered, Sam hated it so I have kind of left it. He lifts his head very clear when you are holding him and can look round whilst supporting it himself so his head control is good. And he doesn't seem to have a preferred side to sleep on so hopefully his head is not flattening.

Obs so glad that things are on the mend in the Obs household and that M is sleeping much better I am sure your DH understands why you forgot your anniversary - you have got rather a lot on your plate after all!

Chocorange go M for trying to roll over - Sam has shown no interest whatsoever, he is quite happy to lie there kicking his legs (iirc DS1 was attempting to roll from back to front constantly from a very early age - he finally achieved it at 4 months and rarely led on his back again - as soon as you laid him down, he would roll over!!)

Next topics of conversation - definitely weaning I reckon...Obs, taking M out for medical reasons, who do we reckon will be the first?

PinkFurryStripeyTiger · 20/01/2009 20:41

Hi all

Sorry people are feeling fed up.

Glad things seem to be thawing with your DH, obs

LOve the new thread ttile idea, hana

Imi had her jabs today- seemsto be fine so far, asleep at 7:30 no calpol. She is a star! Though clearly not child prodogy like rutho's fin. I want a full performance of these skills on friday!!

Still feeling veryn topsy turvey and confused about my own parenting abilities in the face of all this analysis. M is coming over tomorrow but only for an hour or so in the afternoon.

I just can't actually say 'no' to the woman.I am supposed to replace that statement with 'I haven't said 'no' to the woman, yet.

I find it extremely difficult to know what I actually want to do.

I was asked today if I wanted to be contacted by letter or phone for something. I panicked trying to work out which would be the answer they would most like to hear and just said 'I don't mind" How ridiculous is that. Cold sweats over such a daft question.

That's one of the things DH and I argue about sometimes- he asks me what I want, or want to do and I get in a complete panic and either mumble or shout

He is soo glad I am doing something about all this. He works hard in his job to build self-esteem in young people and has been desperately trying to get me to believe in myslef for years.

Who was it with the DS and the m/wave- was it you, vbab? DH's boss had her kitchen blown up by her niece in the same way. Fortuanetley the little girl left the room before the m/wave hit the kitchen ceiling. So you were very quick witted there and I think the swearing may have been justified!

Ceebee74 · 20/01/2009 20:43

Daisy here is the link to the childcare voucher thread

PinkFurryStripeyTiger · 20/01/2009 20:44

ceebee the Lowry does mummy cinema here but I've never been.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/01/2009 21:19

thanks ceebee, I'll send her in your direction

bumble has a bit of a flat spot as he always lies one way. I've ordered a donut shaped pillow for him, but I was talking to my BIL as my nephew spent a year in a helmet as his head was really flat at the back and he said that very mild flat spots usually sorth themselves out when the baby is more mobile. He kind of reassured me a bit as I was getting a bit panicky about it (after all don't want anything to spoil his devilishly good looks )

Am so . Just wrote a really long post, and pooter crashed. So a briefer post than planned now.
Well done to all those sleeping babies ! And rolling ones choc! Obs your DH cooking mini-anniversary meal sounds v.much like an olive branch. Defo tell him you felt sad for forgetting. Good luck girl. I hope things get better for you both.

Hana i no longer pump as Plum won't take bottle anymore .
Hello cricri - nice to see you around!

rutho much laughter at your LO pooing everywhere. Apparently when I was a nipper I used to enjoy putting my hands in my nappy and smearing my whole body with the stuff... nice!

Reading with interest over varying success of "dream feeds". Now we are getting the LO down at 7pm-ish, I am unsure whether to start waking her at 10:30pm? We haven't been doing, and she normally lasts til 2am. DH thinks it's silly to wake her. I can't decide. If we woke her at 10:30pm, maybe she would sleep through til morning?

Am going to a Mummy-screening of "slumdogmillionaire* next week. And doing Buggy-fit thing tomorrow - big sports bra at the ready!

Right - laters taters, hope everyone has a good night
xxx

chocolategal · 20/01/2009 21:49

monkey im undecided about the "dream feed" too. we are getting E sleeping by 7pm and i am waking him 10.30-11ish, dont know whether to leave him and like daisy says they have their own sleep patterns so maybe leave him and find out what his is.....

night night all heres to sleepy nights

Yorky · 20/01/2009 22:15

Hi all, sorry I've been out of touch for so long, life has been getting in the way

DS has started at a nursery here, they seem really nice and he is settling much faster than last time On the downside he is trying to drop his after lunch nap
DD has had her first jabs and weighed 13lb4 last Thurs

I went to the Dr last Thurs as I was still bleeding (8wks) and from having been just spotting it had got heavier and brighter (sorry for tmi) He suspected retained products and I ended up in hospital overnight They didn't let DD stay with me From when I woke at 6 and asked for the breastpump they had said thy would provide DH got there at 10, I have never been so glad to see a pump before! Could have sat DD across the room and fed her!
And I was nil by mouth for no known reason while waiting for a scan AT 2PM!, which showed ragged womb lining which suggest retained products. They gave me the option of an ERPC but by then I just wanted to get out of there, have another scan in a fortnight if nature hasn't done its job then it can be done as day surgery.

Sorry for ME post, looking forward to meeting up on Friday

LackaDAISYcal · 20/01/2009 22:35

Yorky, poor you . Am horrified that you weren't allowed to have DD in there with you though. You'd think they would have provision for this sort of thing.

Sorry, I never answered your text about Saturday , but we won't be able to make it. I'll see you on Friday though

OP posts:
twinklingfairy · 20/01/2009 22:43

Oh Yorky how awful. I had that with DD, retained products, I was taken in for a D&C and was able to keep her with me.
I was happy to stay and to just get the job done.
I was so frightened that it would happen again this time, but so far so good. Though I did have what looked like a show, last night. What was that about? I better not be getting my first period. I BF for goodness sake!

J is just about smiling now! Yeah, nearly there. All I want is a big old grin now!
What a change to his wee face when he does smile though. My poor wee lad has been through so much I truly felt that that frown was never going to leave his little face

Have only read the last 2 posts, but wanted to share with Yorky that I had been where she is. So must go read a few more and try to catch up with you all!!

ChocOrange05 · 21/01/2009 04:54

Hello night owls! I just got out of bed to feed M as he was crying and since going to the toilet he's not crying anymore so I am waiting in the study to see if he's going to start again! (he's in his own room now as he was sooo noisy!)

PS - I am a GF follower but yesterday M and I slept until 7.40am - the HORROR!!

ChocOrange05 · 21/01/2009 04:55

Right - I am going back to bed but predict I'll be out of it again soon (sods law probs as soon as I get in it! )

chocolategal · 21/01/2009 05:33

I'm a night owl too! I don't know what has happened, my little man used to be a good sleeper now we are up at least twice! A growth spurt maybe???

My MIL is taking E for the afternoon, I was going to go shopping but now I think I'll have a sleep instead.

chocolategal · 21/01/2009 08:15

matchsticks anyone??
I have a new found respect for you ladies ( and I had a lot already!) that have had night after night of their LO's not sleeping. (obs, daisy!)

Think I will stop the dreamfeed tonight and see when he wakens himself.
So, how is everyone else today?

Oblomov · 21/01/2009 08:18

Morning.
Sorry to hear of vbaba and pooh . There does seem to be an abundance of pooh / explosive poohs on this thread. Bit of a shock to me, because I never even had more than about two MINOR leaks with ds1, and none so far with ds2. I know cricri and others have their fair share of explosive ones.
No rolling over here. At ALL.
And no moving across the bed, or anything else - maybe ds2 is a bit sedate, like me

ChocOrange05 · 21/01/2009 08:19

Well he did wake when I got back into bed - but only for 2 minutes and then went back to sleep till 6.30!! Not a "sleep through" in the true sense of the word as we both awoke but a "non-eat through" from 11pm - 6.30am. Go M!!!

Have a good day all. x

Oblomov · 21/01/2009 08:25

Sorry, totally missed Yorkys post. Sorry to hear this Yorky. ope you are o.k. and that things do happen naturally. Although my D&C wasn't bad at all, so hopefully if you have to end up having one, it won't be too bad either.

vbab78 · 21/01/2009 09:01

yorky - hope you ok. at the hospital. What is it with hospitals they either do a fantastic job or are shitty beyond belief?! Luckily I've always had excellent service but I have known people who have had the opposite.

Found out something horrendous the other day ... was talking with mum and one of my aunties about A birth and how great the hospital and staff were for DS, A and my miscarriage before A. Well mum and aunt were both saying how much the service and midwifes have mellowed and become "nice" not like in their day. Well my aunty who I've been told lost a baby girl (got 2 boys now) not sure the circumstance. Was after the loss in hospital was watching mothers breast feed apparantly it made her feel better seeing mothers so close to babies. She was told in a very nasty manner "get back and get your baby fed" by a midwife to which she replied "i haven't got a baby". My mum lost 2 boys before me and sis came along, David at 8hrs (I think) and Mark (mum nearly died) after a couple of days he was prem and caught a bug in special baby care. Well my mum got sedated after Mark was born and when she came around a few days later just wanted her baby. A midwife very nastily said "oh shut up your baby died" . Just shows thank god how much better things have got in NHS. Was so shocked and angry when they both told me their stories.
Sorry went on a bit there.

Dozymare · 21/01/2009 09:08

por yorky. Hope things get better soon. choc hope you got your money ready

This is my opinion on waking baby - if you put them to bed at 7pm and leave them, they will wake around 2am looking for a feed (having slept for 7 hours, I don't blame them) If however, you wake for a dream feed at 1030ish, then they will have their long sleep until between 6-7am. Much better for us mum's to have that long sleep then rather than go to bed at 11pm, up at 2am and then sleep to 6/7 anyway. Just my experience!!

Plus, you then bring that 1030/11pm sleep back until they eventually drop it.

Tiger sleeps 0900-1000 in the morning, 1130-2pm then 4-5pm PLUS 7-11pm then quick dream feed and then had to be woken today at 730am! So not only am I getting lots of time in the day for other DC's and time for me and household jobs, DH and I get evenings to ourselves, plus am sleeping in the night - who wouldn't want that?!!! Routines rock

juanitad · 21/01/2009 09:09

Morning all,
P had his jabs yesterday, it wasn't as bad as I thought. He gave a little screech then promptly fell asleep for 3 hours! I managed to get loads done around the house while he was in his little dreamworld! Once he woke up though he was very out of sorts and screamed the hous down until bedtime! I gave him calpol after his bedtime feed, so I was convinced he would sleep a really long stretch, because of the combination of jabs plus calpol, but no he was up his usual 3 times! I am starting to think this boy may continue with his night feeds for a long time to come. On the plus side though, he is rolling over! He can roll onto his right side and back again but not the left for some reason.
Oh great, the cat has just puked up her breakfast, better go clean it up!!
