Oh ts you are too good to us.
Thank you for breakfast

2 wake ups here from ds 3.15 and 6.30. Fed and resettled well.
2 wake ups from dd at 1.30, ended up in bed with me (oh dear) and woke again at 3.15 but settled well. fell out of our bed few times, or should I say slipped out, no harm done.

Not too tired though.
Hope everyone had good sleep and not too many wake ups.

Question re weaning??????

I am/was prepared to wait till 6 month mark. Everyone keeps yelling baby rice in my ear. Not to make him sleep through though, but they say he is showing signs.

I would say, yes he is showing interest, all the time. He follows all found, tries to grab, also smacks/sucks in his lips whenever he sees someone eat.
I am not convinced he is physicaly ready though, seems still baby like IYKWIM

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 04/01/2009 09:49

Good morning all, thanks for the bagel ts oops what lovely news, though I confess I am mightily - trying to persuade dp we should try for dc2 next December cos I don;t want to be 40 having no 2.... will take me 12 months to persuade methinks!! We are trying to come up with a 5 year plan and I slipped it in (along with dc3 in 2012 but I may be pushing my luck )

no1 I am burying my head in the sand re weaning so cant help at all, but will be interested to hear what the more experienced ladies have to say. I have not noticed ds being interested at all in food apart from watching in puzzlement as we eat

interesting night here - fed ds at 11.45pm (very short feed, about 4 mins). He woke at 2am. I was sure he could not be hungry as he'd fed well all day, so I decided to go on 'boob strike'. I shushed and patted and rocked his hamock - he whinged on, not really crying and one hour later he fell asleep and woke at 5am. I was going to try the same but realised he was soaked through (forgot night nappy ) so fed and changed. I have decided to go on boob strike between 12 and 5 from now on then if that works, try to extend the non feeding time. btw he then slept from 5.25 til 8.40, a good sleep.

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 04/01/2009 10:00

at all the shopping last night, poor ds, nothing but stripes for him plus brown/grey/beige YUK (thank god I had a boy as spending a fortune on little things for my niece. wanted to get her those mary jane tights from gap... have you seen them? ultra cute)

SevenRottersPottering · 04/01/2009 10:27

With you on the rubbish boy clothes Sambo, after DD it has come as quite a disappointment, although DS does have some nice dungarees. Some of those dresses No1 and Dizzy were looking at were lovely, but how much

With regards to weaning, I am fully intending to hang on till six months - only 5 weeks away, how did that happen? I waited with DD and it was fine, managing OK with DS too even though he's such a big boy. I think they're just interested in everything aren't they by this stage, and would put anything in their mouths if we'd let them. DS kept trying to grab my wineglass yesterday while we were having lunch at my mum's, don't think he's ready for that yet . There's plenty of anecdotal evidence that weaning doesn't help with sleeping so might as well wait.

SevenRottersPottering · 04/01/2009 10:36

Eek, just noticed I posted message number 666

Alieight · 04/01/2009 11:16

...The number of THE BEAST.

Although having said that, when Adam was born he had the number 71 scratched into his head form the monitor things during labour, so that has become our number of the beast!

V to hear of house burglary and car being keyed...absolutely senseless and heartless.

Am I the only person who prefers boys clothes? Admittedly I loathe pink with a fiery passion, and quite like neutrals...although Adam has a fair amount of red, purple, bright green and orange in his wardrobe...

No1 am also burying head in sand re weaning. Over Christmas my MIL (who is lovely) was constantly telling me how Adam was jealous of our lovely food my mother has also warned me that 6 months is the absolute limit for weaning...erm so if I don't wean him then he'll be drinking breastmilk at 18 then will he mother? Have been dithering between BLW and pureeing, but suspect purees will be making an appearance as he's going to nursery in two weeks.

Oh, and for everyone who was wondering...on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me...a really lovely handbag, some gorgeous bath stuff, some books and a box of chocolates...and told me he wanted to buy me a ring but had talked himself out of it as we couldn't afford a really nice ring and he didn't want to give me a crappy one. But now wishes he had said sod it and got me a nice ring. Have pointed out it is my birthday in April...

Right, need to head off and get DP to clean house as BIL plus family are coming over in a couple of hours.

cyteen · 04/01/2009 12:06

good settling sambo, well done. that's very brave of you, i think - i've never got the guts to try it and just instantly stick DS on the boob when he moans at night perhaps this is why he is such a chubber

that said, had a fab night here - Joe woke at 10.30, fed him one side and he fell asleep. now he has recently been flooding his nappies overnight (again) so I thought I'd try something different and change him at this feed. Obviously this resulted in v wakey baby Fed him the other side and managed to encourage him back to sleep by half eleven, laid him down in his basket and hid snuggled down under the duvet...didn't wake again till half past five 6 hours of glorious uninterrupted kip. I feel human for the first time in weeks, even my kneecap ache has disappeared!

no1 how old is marcus now? i think that if you aren't sold on him being really ready, he probably isn't - like SRP says, he's probably just interested in what you're doing. Joe is nearly 18 weeks and has only just started to stare at us eating (he was eyeing up our toast yesterday ) but it seems more in puzzlement than anything else.

no one has said anything to us about weaning yet apart from my stepmum suggesting i "put a dab of custard on his lips, let him get the taste of it!" Err, no thanks We're leaning more and more towards BLW despite being given all the puree kit, but i expect we'll do a bit of both.

Well done Sambo, that's what I started doing just before I quit BFing. I needed to be confident I wouldn't be heating bottles at 2am! Although the last few nights he's been a little b*gger and only stays asleep on my chest or on his side next to me. Am thinking he might just be cold (even with 2.5tog grobag + 2 thin blankets as we still have no doors on our bedrooms.

Pink bedroom is nearly floored and I have now bought a v pale pink emulsion to remedy the Yazoo-effect. As DD did paint one of the walls herself I am prepared to compromise and just repaint the 2 walls you see best from the doorway. Unless that looks crap...

Got a whole tablespoon of banana/baby rice into Kurt today, he's finally getting the hang of not sticking his tongue out.

I found a lady on Ebay who does bright-dyed baby vests for boys - Bexi I think she's called, have a search.

CaptainCaveman · 04/01/2009 13:20

Hello! just got 5 spare mins to pop on and catch up, before we head out for the afternoon. Apologies, ds2 has done a poo so it whiffs a bit round here....

re. weaning, as you know I started weaning Oliver at 17 weeks. He has been fine, taken to it well, mad keen to chew the spoon (teething) and so far has only shown dislike for banana and cookie crumble! For the first week he was on one meal a day, then I upped it to two and now he's on 3 (he was 5mo on new years day). No probs with constipation or any other behaviours. He is sleeping better at night but that may just be coincidental - I'm not willing to argue the point either way, I just know it;s good news for us . My HV was very supportive of starting weaning - the guidelines are just a guide and we all know our babies best so we should judge when they are ready - not other people. Does that sound arsey? It's not meant to!

alittlebitshy · 04/01/2009 13:51

As I'm so close to 6 months (2.5 weeks) I'm going to hang on but if this bad night sleeping had started earlier I may well have weaned a bit sooner.....

alittlebitshy · 04/01/2009 13:55

Sorry that was so brief. Dh wanderd in and said ds might need feeding (very sleepy - only had a power nap this morning) but i suggesed a nappy change first .

I still feel very weak after being ill. Dh and dd much better but they both got to lie in bed/sofa all day while I had to deal witn ds even when my mum was here cos I had to feed him.... so I think I just nee a bit more rest time.

We're trying a Strategy tonight. When ds wakes dh will give him a botthle (prob formula cos can't be arsed with defrosting in the mddle of night) and see if he sleeps on longer. If it's the same wake up pattern we'll revert to normal, but if this helps, we'll have to see..... Was always intending to poss intro a bit more formula at 6 months though at the mo i intend to carry on bf mainly (but if those top teeth come too ds and i could raslly fall out over what he is and isn't (ie me) meant to bite!!)

TwilightSurfer · 04/01/2009 14:05

WEANING

At 16 weeks I started allowing Reese to taste things. By 18 weeks I was offering solids at one meal per day, usually dinner. Tomorrow marks week 20 and I am going to start getting serious with the meals by attempting to do it twice a day. She is just soooo messy.

Reese has had oatmeal, mashed sweet potato, mashed carrot, mashed prunes, applesauce, and mashed banana. She's basically reacted the same way to each of them. She dives in but then seems to fill quickly. I guess I need to figure out a good way to measure what I am offering.

I did not go in any order with offering the food. I did not wait for so many days between offering the food. The only thing I did do was try to match foods we had on our plates at the time.

She does have a slight issue with constipation but that is more from the soy formula she is back on than from the food.

Over the past few days I have noticed that she is really ready for more. The formula just doesn't seem to fill her for as long as it use to. This is a problem in the evening when she mass feeds then soaks through her nighttime diaper. Adding more solids should fix this problem.

TwilightSurfer · 04/01/2009 14:10

Buckets I gave in to dd1 a while back and painted her room pink. I HATE IT! She LOVES IT! The pink is so loud and unnatural, like Pepto Bismal.

Ali sorry about the ring. We were right...he was going to get it. That's dance worthy.
