And by that I mean active and fit with TWO girls in preschool/school.

TwilightSurfer · 30/12/2008 13:16

The HOT MAMAs Thread is about to take off. Better add it back to your thread list so you can enjoy the ride. Only two more days till resolutions kick in.

CaptainCaveman · 30/12/2008 13:40

Going off to Market Rasen soon, back tomorrow some time. Blimey it's hard work packing stuff up for 3 of us...bound to forget something!

dizzydixies · 30/12/2008 16:49

am pleased to say that we can call off the hunt for Sazz - she is just having a real life and will be back soon

she sends her best to us all

TwilightSurfer · 30/12/2008 17:02

You weren't worried were you Dizzy? You know Sazzles has a deep MN addiction so she would have to resurface at some point.

cyteen · 30/12/2008 17:18

I would just like to share a little emo moment with you all, if I may.

Today it is exactly one year since I found out I was pregnant. I can still remember wandering out of the bathroom with the positive test in my hand, feeling utterly bemused that the worst year of my life should have such a trick up its sleeve. And now my beautiful, perfect baby son is snoring away on the sofa next to me, smelling of milk and vanilla.

Creating lives and having babies: it happens every day, but it's always a miracle.

Happy new year girls

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 30/12/2008 18:01

Cyteen your post made me cry, you have been through an amazing amount in the last few years, it never ceases to amaze me how well you re doing. you have been brave and strong and your little boy is testment to that. {{{hugs}}}

dizzydixies · 30/12/2008 19:34

dizzydixies · 30/12/2008 19:35

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 30/12/2008 21:18

thanks for all your kind `words and advice.
i agree with what you say. feel bit better today.
dh slept on sofa so i could have both dc in bed if i needed to and scew the routine.
ended up getting to bed at 2am with just ds.
dh got up with dd and me and ds had a lay in till gone 10am

lazy slattern emoticon.
it was wonderful, despite hearing dh and dd yelling downstairs
hope you are all well and any snotty babies are feeling better.

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 30/12/2008 21:22

thanks to dizzyminor

I'm keeping my festive name a bit longer, don't want xmas to be over. It's my birthday tomorrow, 38 gulp! No plans. Well, I'm hoping to finish painting the hall. We may go up to London with DS for the first time for a stroll along the South bank.

cyteen you're right it is everyday and miraculous at the same time

ts you are an inspiration!

petitfiloudanceswithreindeers · 30/12/2008 21:24

Hello everyone
Just resurfacing ....... had a hard Christmas. All three dcs have had horrible bugs (and dd one bug followed by another) - they are JUST getting back to normal this week now that I am on my own with them again

We had Christmas day with fil and step mil - it was hideous and not to be repeated! They left before lunch the next day, don't think they enjoyed themselves much step mil could not stay out of the kitchen and oh anyway it was rubbish. But just had my dad to stay for the past two nights and was lovely to see him.

Looking forward to catching up with you again soon but no time in the day atm - maybe next week!

Oh and that comeuppance I said I was going to get ...well it is well and truly with us. Toby has been awake constantly at night for the past week as he has been so bunged up. I've fed him so much I am bursting out of current nursing bras - think norks think it is a giant growth spurt

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 30/12/2008 21:39

hi No1, I've been having thoughts on a similar vein to you re routine and getting ds in bed for our 'adult evening'. Routine gone to pot anyway, ds has just gone down now (finally) after trying for 1.5hours (crying) then letting him sit up with us and watch the Dog Whisperer. He was perfectly happy, but will we pay in the long run if we continue like that. And should I ff him as he's waking lots in the night and by bf him I am hogging him a bit...

glad to hear you are feeling better today

SevenRottersPottering · 30/12/2008 21:46

I'm with you Sambo, it's still Christmas here so keeping the festive moniker a bit longer

Sorry to hear you had such a rubbish time PF and that Toby has forgotten how to sleep. My DS is still on usually 3 wake ups a night I am absolutely knackered

Cyteen having a baby is so amazing you're right. I was never going to have children, sometimes I look at my two and my heart could break at the thought that they might never have been born. Thank heavens for biological clocks . And the good news is they just get lovelier with age, well so far up to age 3 anyway

No1 you sound more cheerful today, it's amazing how much better you feel after some proper sleep . We will deffo have to have a Yorkshire meetup

Poppy how's kitty today? Hope she's feeling fine. I bet she's lovely and fluffy though

TS your talk of fit 40-something mama has me eeking, I'll be 40 at the beginning of April (nooooooo) and after losing all my baby weight plus another 8lb I have put the 8lb back on over Christmas. So I have them and another 3 stone to lose so I will be dipping my chubby toes in the Hot Mamas very soon.

To all of you, you've really helped me through my pregnancy and early days with DS even though I was only lurking. My other new year's resolution, apart from becoming a fox, is to post more on here and try and return the favour!

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 30/12/2008 21:48

pf sorry to hear of your rubbish xmas day, had xmas with dp's ex and ex MIL last year, also never to be repeated! what were we thinking?

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 30/12/2008 21:53

x post rotter, good resolution! I too was never going to have children, hence my advanced years (was never a 'career woman') but here I am with a little miracle

now I need a second miracle, a full night's sleep!!

DS also waking 3 times (4 times last night) on average now, it's very knackering. I now think I'll just try to hold on til 6 month mark and solid food will sort the problem. Although by that time I will probably be stark staring bonkers from lack of sleep!@!*!

SevenRottersPottering · 30/12/2008 22:06

Sambo I hope you have a lovely birthday tomorrow and your DS gives you a fab present of some sleep

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about routine now if he doesn't like it. I'm sure they all settle down eventually [hopeful emoticon]. DD was a dream baby who slept through 8-8 from about 3 months, thought I was a brilliant skilled mum, turns out I was just lucky as DS is rubbish but he'll get there in the end. And don't feel guilty about hogging the feeding. After all you had to hog all the hideous pregnancy symptoms and childbirth, so if you want to feed him all by yourself go for it, it's no more than you deserve to be the one and only in your DS's eyes Unless you want to share it of course?

poppysocks · 30/12/2008 22:24

Sorry to hear about your stressful Christmas pf. Here's to a new year!

Glad you're feeling chirpier today No1. Sod the routine I say and just survive at this stage. It will come right in the end. You have two such tiny ones I'm in awe of your survival! In the meantime, glad to hear DH was able to help a bit and you've had a bit more sleep.

Hope you're enjoying a non-guilty glass of wine tonight to go with your reflections cyteen. What a year.

LOL to DizzyDD1. How are your other lovelies? Must get together in the new year!

Cat doing ok thanks. Her tail's still pretty limp, which is worrying me but it definitely moved quite a bit when she spotted a bird in the garden and she woke up when I squeezed it (to check, before you have me done as a cat abuser!), so fingers crossed it'll return to full power. Definitely a life or two down though!

DD2 not so good though. Took her to Dr this morning who said her chest is clear, at the moment, but we had a long chat about the likely recurrance of the bronchiolitis (hospital had failed to confirm with us that that was what she had before ). Poor thing was pretty miserable this afternoon, but can't be too bad as pulled her (and her sister's) usual trick of being an angel when DH returns from work, after I'd complained to him about how difficult it'd been .

TwilightSurfer · 31/12/2008 06:11

reese up all snotty. thankfully its a clear cold night so after sitting in the bath with steam we wander around outside for a bit. poor girl just wants her sleep.

poppy i hope you're not up too with emily.

sambo happy birthday....i'm right behind you in amonth & a half.

sevenrotters i look forward to seeing you on hot mamas.

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 31/12/2008 09:22

Morning all . Typing 1 handed so please forgive any abruptness

Spent a couple of days with Mum & Dad and saw Dsis and BIL (who was a COMPLETE PITA and useless shit but hey ho, i think everyone has similar experiences over Xmas). DD's loved playing with their cousins and gave us a lie in . We have had our very good friends here for the last couple of nights, good food, wine and conversation (plus going to bed at 1am) so little time to post. I have been up with both DD's since 7.15 this morning catching up on here (DH 'accidentally' set DD1's clock to come on with a chicken alarm ). I shall be requesting reciprocation of long lie in soon.

SOrry i can't catch up on everyone's news but:

to poor Poppycat - hope you all recover soon

cyteen lovely words and so perfect Joe has come into your life to give you a positive reason to get up every day and smile

no1 glad you got a lie in.....could this become a regular thing to recharge the batteries?

dizzy thanks for your concern, but ts was right....i'm here!!!!!

sambo happy birthday

Commiserations to the non sleepers . I like rotterpotter was a fecking parenting genius lucky with DD1 who slept through 7-7 from about 9 weeks and would happily take a bottle. Let's just say with Emma '7' and '7' mean nada and bottles are made for spitting . I will repeat though 'this is just a phase' ad infinitum............

Oh and re HOT MAMA's, i shall rejoin in full swing, a liitle late, on the 12 Jan after my blowout bithday weekend

OP posts:
poppysocks · 31/12/2008 10:21

Hi sazzles . Nice to s'ee' you!

Hope Reese went back down ok TS and is feeling less snuffly this morning. Emily made it through the night, bar a couple of chatty patches but she resettled herself. Unbelievably snotty this morning but fine in herself. Lasted a whole hour though before she was ready to go back to sleep so that's what she's up to now and I'm taking a break from DD1's Beatrix Potter marathon to have some brekkie. Some of those stories are savage! As I don't remember being upset by it as a child I guess it shows how matter of fact kids are and we are all too sensitive!

Cat is so much better this morning. Tail isn't back to full perkiness but definitely working and no longer being dragged. Phew! And TS, funnily enough, her name is v. similar to Twister!

poppysocks · 31/12/2008 10:37

No1, was thinking about your routine dilemmas. I think survival is the priority and with bf on demand, combined with another child, imho, a routine during the day is likely to be more constraining than positive (so I tell myself!). And at night, it's just a case of getting through. However, I do second what Dizzy says about the bedtime routine. Perhaps that's a place to start, rather than thinking that you need to tackle the full 24 hrs x 2 DCs?

We have, with both, introduced strict bedtime routines from pretty much the word go. I wouldn't suggest that that's why we have two really good sleepers, but I know it certainly doesn't harm it and probably is a factor. Also, it's great to know that (once it's established of course) no matter how hard the day has been that come 8 o clock, you will be able to rest and if you feel like it (!) be an adult/communicate with DH/P .

Getting these things going is always hardest, but is there a week or so when DH will be around in the evenings so that you could get it going together? Or, I think it was Dizzy who had some help from a neighbour's daughter, who just came early on to be an extra pair of hands? Could you spare a little cash for a few weeks to get that sort of help in? Or is there a family member close by who could just come in for that hour or so? Hopefully once they both know and understand what's going on it will just be a case of dealing with the mechanics of bedtime, rather than the far more exhausting 'will they/won't they go down' routine.

Sorry if this seems pompous or just rubbish, but hope something might be of use!

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 31/12/2008 11:07

Morning all, bucks fizz all round as it's my birthday and I got the best birthday present from ds - he woke once at 3.40am then slept til 6.30am. I feel human again for the first time in ages!!

poppy I think you speak words of wisdom - I have been crap re bedtime lately due to extreme tiredness but I think that's the key starting point so my NY resolution is to institute strict bedtime routine. Will have to start setting an alarm for 5.30pm or so each night cos usually I am surprised that it's 7pm and I thought it was 5pm - where does the time go??

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 31/12/2008 13:12

Happy Birthday sambo Glad you feel refreshed, I do to today. Hope you have a wonderful day.

poppy you do speak perfect sense.
I dont know why I am stressing so much over this parenting lark.
DD has always been a good sleeper.7-7.ish

She still goes to bed lovely, and always ready and willing when it gets near 7.
Always gone to bed and left to settle herself.
However as expected now ds is here, she wants me to sit with her till she falls asleep.
Not always possible, so I put her to bed,sit on chair at side of her while feeding ds on the occasions she wants me to stay, this works ok.
I suppose I am trying too hard to get ds down like she did (obviously both very different)

TwilightSurfer · 31/12/2008 13:13

I think I will join the bedtime routine NY resolution wagon. Not for reese, she's locked into one all by herself. It's for dd1.

Reese is all snuffles. Sleep was hard but she wanted to do it and thus got a few hours. Me.....I did the best I could under the circumstances.

Hi Sazzles. Nice to see you and look forward to seeing you on hot mamas after your rock'n birthday.

off now to give dd1 so quality time.
