PS should possibly point out that if it is an engagement ring, that isn't a surprise as we've been planning to get married at some point in the next couple of years...actually it was going to be this year until we found out about Adam and I told him I didn't want to be 8 months pregnant and unable to drink at my own wedding!

Hmmm...

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 06/12/2008 00:57

Ali
YEAH!!

You're getting a ring.
You're getting a ring.

You're getting a ring.
You're getting a ring.

First, WHOSE idea was it to get the "godparents" rings....??? Yours or DPs Normally people don't buy other people RINGS! This is just me talking off the top of my sleep deprived head but I'd say the "godparents" ring thing was "beard" for the REAL PURPOSE of getting the perfect ring for YOU!

You're getting a ring.
You're getting a ring.
You're getting a ring.

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 06/12/2008 01:02

how juvenile

don't worry. if in fact you did click on the ring's picture....so what. you will still be so excited and surprised and totally thrilled when your dp does what ever he's got planned. seems to me like he's been up to something for a while. i'd say you're going to get goose bumps and maybe even cry or even dance around like someone nice you know.

AliEightMaidsAMilking · 06/12/2008 01:02

Wheeeee someone's awake!!

Was DPs idea to get rings for the godparents...

Am going to be very if I do get slippers for Christmas now...

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 06/12/2008 01:03

YEAH!
That's just as exciting as getting that BFP one year ago.

AliEightMaidsAMilking · 06/12/2008 01:06

actually a year ago I was sitting in my living room surrounded by about 10 positive pregnancy tests wailing "But I can't be pregnant!" (Had been told was v unlikely I would ever have children, and was on the pill anyway)...

Plus worrying as I'd been diving heavily in the previous six weeks and scuba diving + pregnancy = bad

AliEightMaidsAMilking · 06/12/2008 01:22

Right, I need ot go to sleep...dunno why I'm still up as I think I have a bad night ahead of me. Adam has a horrible cold and really nasty barking cough - I keep hearing little sneezes and snuffles over the monitor, plus a cough that makes him sound like he's on 40 a day. Poor wee thing

WeWishYouAMiamlaChristmas · 06/12/2008 07:27

woah, alieight, you were here late last night!
bit of a tricky ring situation you're in there! how good are you at feigning surprise? you could always practise by copying this face

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 06/12/2008 08:26

moring all - here's breakfast

You are all going to need your strength - I assume you are all coming to help clean this new house so I can start moving my kitchen stuff over???

Feeding DD in the hope she sill sleep and I can get on collecting things I need to take over and NOT forgetting kettle, tea milk and toaster!

AliEightMaidsAMilking · 06/12/2008 08:55

Morning all...

Horrible night here - Adam really not well and didn't really sleep much after 3am. Kept waking himself up coughing . He's now asleep lying propped up next to me as being a bit upright seems to help the snottiness...snorting and snuffling away. I've also now got his cold and am feeling crap.

Forgot to say Oops Yaaaaaaaay! on house! Waves duster feebly in your direction.

AliEightMaidsAMilking · 06/12/2008 08:56

coffee obviously

cyLENTeeNIGHT · 06/12/2008 09:22

Morning festive ladies

Ali how exciting, I am all a dither on your behalf What a lovely thoughtful DP you have there. I demand that you inform us all the minute you open your present!

TS I had the worst holiday of my life in Cancun...not the fault of the place though, just everything else (company/timing/experiences). I did have one good day when we visited Chichen Itza; would love to go back for real and enjoy it. My best friend spent five weeks travelling around Mexico and had an amazing time

Christmas Day plans...quite the opposite of poppystocking's tribal gathering. We're driving down to London on Xmas Eve and hopefully spending the night with my best friend, then Christmas Day at my dad's (so only 6 or 7 of us - am hoping my brother's best friend will join us). Just a quiet dinner, lots of cooing over the baby and then a nice walk in Greenwich Park Then driving down to DP's parents' that night and spending Boxing Day having a manic time with his family (PIL, SIL and her DH and two kids, BIL and partner, aged GP, DP's cousin and her new DH...phew!)

But in the meantime we are getting ready to drive down there today because DP is taking me out for my birthday tonight! Yay. We're parking DS with the grandparents and having a nice drunken meal Birthday not till Tuesday so I am well excited.

AliEightMaidsAMilking · 06/12/2008 09:52

Cyteen if you ever go back to that part of the world, you must must must go to Tikal (in Guatemala). It knocks the socks off Chichen Itza and is truly amazing...you could also then nip over to Belize if you fancied some beach time. I spent 6 weeks travelling around Mexico back in 2001, and then 5 years living in Central America - was a wonderful part of my life.

Christmas Day plans - we're heading up to Scotland to spend Christmas with DPs family. He got very worried about it, saying "My family may not be quite what you're used to - we don't open presents on Christmas Day until everyone is up and ready"...doesn't everyone do this? Have memories of big family reunion Christmas when I was 6. We had a house FULL of people (about 30, including 10 kids), and we were all waiting around for my aunt to get her lazy arse out of bed. Which she finally did at about midday (after my mum had gone up and told her to get up, and no she couldn't have a bath, she had to get dressed and come downstairs NOW). We were all practically wetting ourselves with excitement. 30 people in a house makes for a LOT of presents under a tree!

Hmmm am filled with Christmas memories now. Last one I spent with my parents (2003), I'd decided to get them each a stocking, as they had given me stockings every year (and still do when I'm at theirs ). Cue my and my mum both waiting up for the other one to go to bed so we could put a stocking on their bed...about 4am my mum finally admitted defeat .

Oops am felling a little more human...could probably manage a little hoovering if that would help?

cyLENTeeNIGHT · 06/12/2008 10:09

LOL @ your stocking standoff Ali ooh, it was so magical when i was a nipper, waking up to find our pillowcase stockings on our beds, breakfasting on tangerines and chocolate coins... of course i now realise that the whole stocking thing is a cunning ruse to get the kids to stay in bed longer so the adults can have a lie in. not that it ever worked with us.

no1putsantaupthechimney · 06/12/2008 10:16

Morning took me some time to catch up!!!!!!!!

love all festive names

cylenteenight I loved waking up to the stocking. Always had a shiney red apple, Tangerine and choc coins too.

Cant wait till dcs are older to do the whole carrot, mince pie and drink thing.

alieightmaidsamilking That sounds wonderful, like *TS8 says I am sure you will still be so suprised.

I think I have ruined my xmas gift suprise by dh too oh well I could be wrong.

sazzlessleighbells {{{{{{{{waves}}}}}}} Hi
Not been on as been stresses out with dd being ill (still coughing like mad) ds not sleeping and me coughing constantly.

Dh was off work yesterday, so helped with bedtime routine. 1st one with out screams tears, upset and red wine
for 4 days.
ds didnt fall asleep while 10pm again but at least he wasnt screaming this time.

no1putsantaupthechimney · 06/12/2008 10:18

I just know when me and dd are better, ds is going to start coughing

dh cleaning cars, I still not dressed.

vg hope you have a great party

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 06/12/2008 10:35

Ooh Alieight, things are definitely going your way this year, non? Ditto everything TS said (and all the bouncing too).

Oops, if you can't be clingy with your first baby, when can you? (Says woman who's been way more clingy with No3 thanks to the feckin BFing.) Tis your job to tick off as many of the Mumsnet PFB tasklist as you can.

Still in my dressing gown here, Kurt and Noah watching CBeebies together downstairs on their own for last half hour! Keep hearing little squealy chuckles so assume they're fine. DH has taken DD to a football taster session, will be fascinated to see what she makes of it as she is v girly and worries about getting sweaty! She laughed her head off and thought I was joking when I said the point of sport was to get sweaty and if you're playing outside you're meant to get muddy and maybe a little bruised.

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 06/12/2008 10:37

Have just offered to do Xmas eve tea for my sis' family and parents. Feel guilty now because I never offered anything when my bro and family were here (but then 8adults, 7kids and a baby are quite a party.)

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 06/12/2008 10:40

Morning, Thanks for breakfast oops

Hello No1, sorry to hear you are an unwell household . The 4 of us are through it now (3 weeks) and it is SO lovely for everyone to be happy and not snivelling

alieight How exciting for you, no wonder you were thread dancing until the early hours . We got engaged on Christmas day 2004. It started snowing outside and DH took me to the window at home, looking out over the snow on the valley and proposed. It was, especially the timing (after brekkie, before pressies), fairly unexpected. We then had to round up the parents who were all here and took about 10 mins as one or other was always on the loo

Last night Emma went to sleep at 6.45pm (unheard of recently as she has been up until at least 9pm for the last few nights). She woke at 2.15am for a feed and then 8.45am.

DD1, wait for it, slept from 7pm until 8.45am sraight through, no wake ups, calls, returns to bed, nada. Bliss . FOr any of you with early risers, or night time risers as DD1 has been for the last 5 months i cannot recommend this highly enough. Since we have had it (2 weeks) DD1 has been up once, we returned her to bed with 'bunny sleeping, DD1 sleeping, ok?' and she has been fab. Without the use of a CCTV camera i cannot say for certain that she is using it as her sleep cue, but i'm pretty chuffed

Off to prune the Wisteria (should have been done in Oct and i'll probably kill it off doing it now), then i'll pop down to you oops and give the garden a quick makeover

OP posts:
poppystocking · 06/12/2008 11:37

Ooh ali, how exciting! Does sound promising.... I spent years being hopeful that DH would get his backside into gear. When he finally did and was on bended knee offering me a ring, all I could think was 'oh God I might be pregnant. This would be SO typical. My mother will kill me.' Well, right on all fronts. My mother barely spoke to me for two years but we have a gorgeous DD1 to show for it all. And managed to escape a huge wedding, which for us, was a significant bonus!

Lovely quite morning here. DD2 not only daytime napping, but in her cot too so the rest of us enjoying a chilled our morning before starting on the Christmas tree decoration.

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 06/12/2008 13:03

Sazzles you can't kill Wisteria. Lovely proposal story.

Cyteen, sorry you had such a glum time in Cancun. More the reason to do it again and get it right.

I've not been to Cancun yet. Cozumel & Acapulco, but not Cancun. My dad lived in Belize for a while as a co-owner/financial partner in a dive boat. Ali you've probably met my dad.

Oops, I'd be there in a split second to whip your new house into shape. I've moved and settled more friends and family than any normal human on the planet.

Now it's pretty cold here today and I've a lot to do. DH wants to go purchase a fake Christmas tree. I need to go to the post office to return my Ellaroo. There are presents to purchase and wrap. AND most importantly I need to put together my Christmas Card so I can get it ordered, shipped back to me and of course mailed to all the lovely people on my Christmas list.

.....that means I should really get off this laptop and MOVe.

no1putsantaupthechimney · 06/12/2008 17:46

why oh why does my dh say 'dd smells love, think she needs nappy changing' wtf!!!!!!!!!!

NoroomattheCaveman · 06/12/2008 17:56

no1 to which your reply HAS to be "there you go then love, the stuff is all over there" (replace with wherever you happen to keep nappy change stuff)

Oliver has just shut up after a 50 minute screamathon. Why can't babies just go to sleep when they are tired? Tee hee, now he is making me laugh coz it seems like he is really overexaggerating those little jerks they do as they drop off (myoclonic jerks, fact fans!)

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 06/12/2008 18:41

TS That's good to hear about Wisteria as it is now truly chopped

no1 my DH just claims 'i never smelt anything' . i just start BF and then tell him she needs a new nappy

Having a day out here tomorrow

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 06/12/2008 18:50

Went to a special needs softplay/bouncy castle session at local leisure centre with the boys today. Was lovely, only about 10 kids - all just being themselves! First time I've been to anything like that, was quite moved to see them all galloping about like red setter puppies, I got quite teary. Even though DS seems to have become better behaved that most normal 3yr old boys lately it was a lovely thing for all the parents to know that nobody was making judgements, that everyone understood. I've tearfully aborted many outings in the past because of his behaviour - you can just hear other parents' thoughts going 'bad mum'. So nice for DS too as he's worked so hard at pre-school, learning the social stuff required to enable academic learning (eg adult direction, waiting his turn, making leaps of faith when people suggest he tries something new.)
DH has been a fecking parenting genius with DD's football session, even stayed to watch, took her and her little friend for Happy Meals afterwards. She enjoyed the football but doesn't want to do it again LOL.

So, well-deserved bottle of wine and XFactor with DH tonight I think.
