Josey - if you think that's bad, we are convinced that ds2 was conceived in a hotel where we had the phone off the hook for baby listening service the night before and hadn't replaced it. We did get some funny looks from Reception the next morning!

TV programme should be on in Feb.

NoRoomAtThePenguin · 15/12/2008 16:22

Hi all - guess who's got some teeth? They're not visible (the gum just looks like it's got a ridge), but I can feel them with my finger and they are sharp! Coupled with a cold it means one grouchy little boy. Awake from 11.30pm - 2am last night...

So I think a few teething toys will fall into his stocking (thank you for ideas everyone).

Upsidedowncake - It was great to see you and Dorothy too. Hope I didn't traumatise her too much. Everyone else, I terrify little Dorothy. Literally. She looks at me and cries in fear. No-one else has this effect on her and I don't have this effect on any other babies. It's very strange, but UDC, if you need to use me as a threat at anytime to make her do something, I won't be offended.

Snowqueen - I can see your profile, but not any pics...

And I can't remember anything else I wanted to say. Back to work on Friday...

sybiltherednosedreindeer · 15/12/2008 16:23

Josey, something happened to me, except I would leave the monitor all the time as lazy, and then a neighbour mentioned they sometimes picked up our monitor on their reciever Needless to say I turned it off all the time after that! She didn't actually say she'd heard anything and I was too embarrassed to ask!

sybiltherednosedreindeer · 15/12/2008 16:29

I can't see your photos either snowqueen

Amberc · 15/12/2008 16:52

I got Luke to eat toast and he loved it - went mad with excitment! Also rice cakes but he left the carrot and parsnip batons. I'm not sure if he ate anything as when a piece came off in his mouth he got a bit whiny and it kind of fell out - I don't think he's too sure what to do with it in his mouth. Looks like I might go down the BLW route as he won't eat ANY puree at all!

spongebrainbigpants · 15/12/2008 18:19

Loving all the embarrassing baby monitor talk!

Amber, that's great news about Luke's feeding - apparently babies sometimes need to be introduced to a food up to 10 times before they'll eat it so keep going with the batons!

PP, poor little Ryder . Hope they come through properly soon and relieve the pain.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/12/2008 18:26

Quick post - off to GP/HV or anyone esle who will see us tomorrow, just done a self weigh with Seb and he has gone from 50th percentile to off the bottom by our reckoning, hardly drinking any milk and at least one bottle a day coming back up through mouth and nose.

spongebrainbigpants · 15/12/2008 19:04

5gomad, really sorry to hear that. Hope GP/HV can give you some useful advice and Seb's ok.

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 15/12/2008 19:17

Hope Seb's Ok and you get some answers 5gomad

Amber - I tried Ethan with toast today too and he loved it as well. He also ate a pea (butnot by himself more an experiment to see what he'd do with it) and a little bit of fish ( I think)
Still using the purees at breakfast and lunch though.

Snowqueen - can't see your photos

Penguin - Ethan has one tiny tooth through and it is sooo sharp. I've had a few bites so I have to get him off very quickly!

Amberc · 15/12/2008 19:26

Five - I hope Seb's OK - Luke's dropped a centile too but clearly not off the chart. His trousers that all fit him are now too loose round the waist - maybe it's an age thing.

Deb (not sure what to call you - mince pies?) - one pea eh? I never thought of peas but I expect they would make good mush. Not going to stop the mush mainly as I bought a mush maker which was expensive! I completely have a mental block with BLW as even though people have suggested things for me to try him on I can't get further than toast in my head! Perhaps I'll try stuff on toast - pea puree?!

Amberc · 15/12/2008 19:27

BTW - Follow on milk has more iron in it and a couple more calories/fat/protein etc.

spongebrainbigpants · 15/12/2008 19:43

Amber, hummus and soft cheese are both good things to spread on - have you tried rice cakes? Alex loves them!

Deb, what fish did you try? We haven't done that one yet!

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 15/12/2008 19:49

can't get baby rice cakes here, only ones suitable from 12 months with added honey!

Sponge - really classy here, he had the fish from a fishfinger!I ate the orange rubbish.

Amber - I hadn't given him peas, because I knew he wouldn't be able to pick them up, I just popped one in his mouth to see what happened! Have you tried cucumber, it seems to work well , chopped lengthways with skin still on, as they can gum away at the flesh and the ski keeps the stick intact.

hollyivypoppy34 · 15/12/2008 19:50

where do you get baby rice cakes? have seen rusks but not rice cakes. hi deb will try the cucumber route..

is anyone else finding their hands are completely drying up with all the nappy changes/cold weather?

spongebrainbigpants · 15/12/2008 20:13

Finally managed to upload the video!

Splodge and Sponge make their tv debut!

PP, see if Shane recognises where the pic was taken of Matt and me!

Amberc · 15/12/2008 20:21

That's an amazing vid!! What made them do the story - where did they hear about you?

pureedchesnutsonanopenfire · 15/12/2008 20:25

Just off to watch the vid Sponge but before I do could I ask a favour? Could you vote for 'A taste of Christmas' here before 10pm? My Christmas present depends on it!

Thank you

spongebrainbigpants · 15/12/2008 20:27

Thanks Amber. My consultant (the one in the clip) saw me do some tv work before (I was on the news talking about single embryo transfer in April 2007) and asked me to do a story on Alex to help promote the work of their clinic.

More than happy to oblige - I owe everything to her, without her skill and dedication we wouldn't have our amazing little boy.

neenztwinz · 15/12/2008 20:35

Josey - I am terrified of monitors now after getting caught at a friend's house the other week talking on one to DH. Luckily we didn't say anything too bad but we were talking about my friend and he was downstairs listening!

I just buy 100% rice rice cakes, not baby rice cakes or anything. I've got a question about hummus - do you make your own or use shop-bought? I thought shop-bought was a bit salty?

Yes, hands been dry since Dts birth with all the washing and drying of them! I use anti-bac gel now so I am not washing my hands all the time, and put vaseline on if they get very dry. I find it is the only thing that works. Moisturisers don't seem to touch it.

5GoMad - hope you get some answers and hopefully it is not serious.

Sponge, I have goose bumps all over from watching that - it has made me want to cry. What a journey you have been on. I had a miscarriage six months before conceiving the twins and was so desperate for a baby that I thought I was going to die, and in the end all I needed was one month of Clomid. To go through all that... wow. Good luck for trying again next year!

spongebrainbigpants · 15/12/2008 20:41

Thanks Neenz, that's really sweet of you . Sorry to hear about your m/c - it really is such a misunderstood grief isn't it?

I'm worried about the salt thing now - will check it out. I use shop bought hummus and normal rice cakes - didn't think they could be too salty .

neenztwinz · 15/12/2008 20:44

I still feel sad about the baby I lost (m/c'd at 13 weeks tho the baby had died at 10+4 - we'd had our scan at 10 weeks) even tho we wouldn't have the twins if that PG had been successful (and I'd only have one baby which feels a very strange concept to me!)

Rice cakes sometimes have salt added as well so check the pack

pureedchesnutsonanopenfire · 15/12/2008 20:55

Oh my God Sponge, I am in floods of tears- it took me six months of Clomid and one miscarriage and I still cry with gratitude when I put my precious baby to bed. How much more special must your miracle seem? Hoping to go through it all with you again sometime very soon.

Re: baby rice cakes- you can buy them in most supermarkets (baby food aisle) or Boots...I buy the Organix apple rice cakes but they do plain and orange. Babypearls loves them. Debs if you still have my email, send me your address and I can mail you some x

Re: Hummous- never really thought about it...just gave her shop bought. TBH I think Hummous is pretty salty anyroad and I already give her Marmite. I suppose the thing is to moderate amounts.

Totally loving baby monitor stuff- we have guests in the baby's room at the family beach house. Thus far I've remembered to turn it off but it's only a matter of time....

spongebrainbigpants · 15/12/2008 20:56

Neenz, ironically I'm the other way around - my first m/c was twins (they would have been two this month), tne second was one baby. But then I can't imagine not having Alex now - weird isn't it?
