I came to the same conclusion Neenz re presents. Still feel miffed they didn't get us presents for at least one year though

Ok, Snowqueen, I'm sara.e.roberts at bangor.ac.uk. Eternally grateful!

Hedgehog good thinking, will get a bigger teat today. Will do anything! (But Josey teething looks likely - he has bright red cheeks.) Are you weaning now, then? I've found Iestyn is sleeping a bit better but I'm sure it must be coincidental as he hardly has anything. It's carrot mark 2 today - but no more videos for facebook, I promise!

bitofasnowqueen · 08/12/2008 11:05

No problem Essie - I'll email you to get address and I can get it in the post to you tomorrow.

S has just fallen asleep on bed behind me, which is a bit annoying as it's his feeding time. As he's not well I'm tempted to leave him to snooze though..

Josey- your pics look fab!! I'd love a bath like that.

Send sympathies to those with hormones raging...is it just me or is PMT so m,uch worse post-baby?? I'm suffering really badly at the moment.

It's been all about the teeth this weekend. I have had an infection in my wisdom teeth and have the joy of them being removed to look forward to. And babyp sprouted two teeth yesterday!

OIh, and I'm still waiting for my sodding Christmas tree to be delivered- a week after I paid for next day delivery. It had better not cost me full price that's all I can say.

Despite my best intentions, I have bought loads of little bits for babyp. DH and I have agreed not to buy anything for each other as we have had to buy a new tv this week and quite frankly our beautiful baby and our first Christmas in our new home is all that we could have asked for and more. [Can't you just hear the violins playing in the background? I sound like a Danielle Steele novel]

MORNING ALL xxxxx

hollyivypoppy34 · 08/12/2008 11:46

essie - yes ikea kitchen fab ... but would agree re scoping out the bits that they do. And on bottles echo whoever it was who mentioned changing teat - also change position. when we had one of our I don't like bottle phases, I found she was ok if she was in her chair (rather than being held by me or dh). And big hugs to you - it can be completely rubbish (as well as very nice) looking after a baby. I had meltdown at dh at weekend (but didnt smash breastpump). If you need another I've got an avent upstairs

pureed hh sympathies re teh teeth.. very painful

josey cute photos..but particularly sorry re your saga with your son and bleeding - sending you virtual chocolate to help.

pureed where did you get tree from? Iwas going to sort that but been put off now...

hollyivypoppy34 · 08/12/2008 11:51

and having weaning issues here - edie seems ready for it ( basically her need for milk gone up massively from being pretty stable for last 6 /8 weeks) but doesn't seem to like what I offer her - tried her on baby rice (ok first day , like Iwas offering her brocolli next and didnt like apple puree). Do I persist or try blw? thing is I can tell she is hungry and its getting difficult to get sufficient milk volume down her ifswim (well you can but a fair bit comes back up again)

EssieAStarInBethlehem · 08/12/2008 12:21

Puree a million sympathies on the wisdom teeth. I was there 2 weeks ago. It's agonising.
Poppy you on facebook? I have a (famous!) video of Iestyn and the carrot puree. A friend who has two older children told me to thin it right down so that it's runny. Will report back on that this evening! Baby rice was fine.

I think Neenz didn't have much success with apple puree at the start - is that right? Too tart.

I don't think Iestyn's 'together' enough for BLW.

neenztwinz · 08/12/2008 12:45

No, apple didn't go down well on its own. Sweet-tasting root veg like parsnip, swede and sweet potato is a big hit. Mix everything with milk and baby rice - that always works for my two.

I have put a vid on Facebook of Theo BLWing (and Esther trying to). I am n i n a k i l l e n - I think anyone can see my profile, you don't have to be my friend but if you want to be my friend then you are very welcome!

Poppy, try BLW but be prepared for him not to eat much. When I started with weaning I think I was too timid, when I watched my mum feed my two she didn't take any prisoners, she was just forcing it in there! So since then I have just kept shoving it in (tho they do like most things now and open their mouths obligingly!)

bitofasnowqueen · 08/12/2008 12:54

Poppy I've been spending the morning reading about weaning (we're going to start this weekend )and I would try carrot/sweet potato or pear. Dont know about apple, but I think brocolli is too strong for first tastes.

S is on bed behind me trying to open the christmas presents that are wrapped!

OP posts:
hedgeHogfather · 08/12/2008 13:04

Ok, today was day one of weaning but Isaac has already gummed the toast to death and attempted a rich tea biscuit. The aim - from the Gill Rapley book - is to get them used to playing with food and different textures rather than increasing calorie intake.

I have bought bananas for the first time in 7 years, and also (from Iceland - please don't shoot me ) frozen brocoli, cauliflower and baby carrot mix

josey your pics are lovely i would echo what G43 said about the bubbles and oli

pureedchesnutsonanopenfire · 08/12/2008 13:04

Poppy- recommend pear! Babyp started on that and we never bothered with babyrice until introducing stronger flavours. A friend also found she had to mix pear with every new flavour to get her twins to take it! If you are worried about the amount of milk, you can always introduce baby yogs/fromage frais....I can recommend Muller Little Stars. Babyp totally loves them!

pureedchesnutsonanopenfire · 08/12/2008 13:07

Oh and have finally uploaded pictures of my angel....[why is there no smug mother emoticon?]

hollyivypoppy34 · 08/12/2008 13:12

thanks all.. will set up facebook so you can send the photos essie
having sepnt weekend fretting re the nanny dilemma - phoned another emore local agency who were much more helpful -turns out market rate is lower than I thought (just as well I trusted my instinct)... how do I deal with other agency (I quite like the nanny I saw but just not saw £400 p/w is the amount i'd pay her)

freezing here as heating not working - can't tell if I'm a numpty or its broken

hollyivypoppy34 · 08/12/2008 14:15

struggling with facebook til dss gets here plus no heating and poonami city here...is it too early to have a drink to warm me up?

hollyivypoppy34 · 08/12/2008 14:16

facebook is scary..there are loads of people who I had forgotten about on it (not you lot)

neenztwinz · 08/12/2008 14:30

HH - yeah the idea is to get them used to tastes and textures but what I don;t understand is that surely they also need extra calories to fill them up so they sleep at night. What does Gill Rapley say about that? (I have asked for the book for Christmas myself). Does she just expect BLWers to get up in the night to BF as necessary?

Poppy, ring the agency and say you liked the nanny but are only prepared to pay £x and that you know that is the going rate. Be firm! You are the customer, you are in charge

neenztwinz · 08/12/2008 14:50

MIL rant alert! I have just remembered... last night at PILs we were talking about how small Esther used to be (4.5lb born) and MIL said 'I remember [DH] trying to put one of those AWFUL nappies on her'. I said 'what nappies?'

She meant terry nappies . Silly cow, what's awful about that? I still use them now, I love them. My SIL jumped in and said 'those meconium ones' - yeah right, that's what she meant, cos you put meconium nappies ON babies

What did MIL used to use for her own children I wonder .

bitofasnowqueen · 08/12/2008 15:27

Essie I was very confused to get an out of office reply in welsh! Presumably you're accessing emails from home?

OP posts:
hollyivypoppy34 · 08/12/2008 16:15

am nearly in tears -sodding british gas..so much for call out service - 24 hours .. bollocks and then get told off for being cross as I'm not delighted after ten odd years of paying for their useless service the oen time I do want/need them -they are no better than a plumber.

and then posted this on wrong thread...

Jollyjoseyjinglebells · 08/12/2008 16:46

Ok Self obsessive rant!!! Went to B&Q with DD's to get a couple of things, DD1 got hit on the head by a black and decker wrench, that they had attached to a display by a chain. It fell off and battered her in the forehead. ( while filling in reports I told them it was dangerous, to which they replied, its been there over a month and nothing like this has happened before, WTF so my 3year old just headbutted it then)She straight away asked to go home to bed......she is a bit white and dottery but DR has said thats probably more shock as her skull isnt fractured, and sending her for an X-ray would be more dangerous....which I thought was a bizzar thing to say, I just wanted them to tell me she was ok. I always get the same DR oncall and I think he thinks Im bonkers.

Sorry will catch up later, when DD finally forgives me and stops playing the guilt card on me

Well look at that Im so self obbsessed I posted it twice lol!

hedgeHogfather · 08/12/2008 16:54

josey I hope DD1 is ok

neenz She says that up until a year old a baby should get the majority of its calories from milk and drops feeds during the day as neccessary. I am not sure about the sleeping through thing though

I have also had the same prob with MIL and FIL moaning about cloth nappies to the extent that MIL thought we were too poor to buy disposables and she bought us some and told us to tell her when we needed more - They are still sitting here unopened and I am thinking of taking them back to Sainsburys for the extra cash

hollyivypoppy34 · 08/12/2008 17:04

poor dd1 josey and at b&Q...but how can sending her for an x -ray be dagerous? sounds bonkers to me...

neenztwinz · 08/12/2008 17:54

LOL Josey I was going to say the same thing re you being so mad you posted twice. That is bad - I suppose an x-ray is dangerous cos of the radiation? have you made an official complaint? you should at least get some vouchers for your trouble . Hope she is feeling better soon.

HH, don't want this to sound aggressive, it is not meant to be, I am genuinely interested and like I say I am getting the book myself for christmas, but what are Gill Rapley's nutritional qualifications? How does she know that milk is all they need? I just don't believe it.
