chocolategal, have you tried some gentle tummy massage, go clockwise in circles. Or giving him some cooled boiled water.

oops baby crying; gotta go.##then we are building a snowman in the back garden. No school today for DS1 as there are no staff due to the weather. We have about 4 inches of snow.

chocolategal · 04/12/2008 09:59

coolkat i will hope for an explosion today!
thanks daisy tried the water but will go rub his tummy now

Dozymare · 04/12/2008 10:01

morning all choc I am also a dummy mummy after having had 2 DC's and absolutely refusing point blank to entertain the idea, I am now actually seeing the benefit........have read a fair bit on it and provided they are taken away by the age of 1 then no long term effects.....Tiger is also very, very sucky and it definately works at chilling her out - babies need to be sucking a lot at this stage for comfort etc and so if it works, then who am I to argue?????????? Was discussing this with a good friend, and she said that the alternative would be sucking on the boobs which is a fair point...at least I can get on and do things and haven't got sore boobs as a result!

Still hate them though and will not let her have one in public

Off to a toddler group now but will be back later to catch up

have a great day everyone

oooh, festive smileys

LeakyDAISYcal · 04/12/2008 10:18

weird.....DD was playing with the computer. I thought I'd forgotten to hit post and posted again. she must have hit the back button.

sleep deprivation does great things.

Choco, dummies used judiciously are perfectly fine, especially if you have a sucky baby. DD was much more sucky than DS and it was the only way I could put her down at one point. Once her need to suck had waned she stopped needing the dummy. I doubt you'll be letting M wander round with it in and talking with it in his mouth when he is four so relax and enjoy the chance to have a shower in peace

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 04/12/2008 12:01

where has everyone gone?

Do you like the Christmas name?

We have been building snowmen in the garden; by heck it was flipping cold and I can't believe we used to play out in the snow for hours when I was a kid. It's all gone wet and mushy already though and will probably be gone in a few hours.

chocolategal · 04/12/2008 12:04

yay!!!! we have success!
ive never been so happy to clean up poo!!

ive also given in with the dummy! he only takes it once or twice a day but it lets me run round and actually get something done!
(she says whilst still sitting in pjs!)

DH back to work today so we are "flying solo" quite enjoying it so far

hope everyone else has a good day, i am going to attempt to write xmas cards!!

chocolategal · 04/12/2008 12:05

LOVE the new name daisy

ceebee74 · 04/12/2008 12:07

Daisy love the name If anyone can think of a Christmas name for me, I would be grateful as my imagination/creativity is just rubbish!!

Glad you managed to build a snowman - the snow we have had for 3 days is gradually going now and turning to slush - am so glad that I don't have to go to work on days like this!!

Mum2becks I think those of us with 2 year olds are all struggling atm - my mum told me (after I got pregnant!) that 2+ years is the most common age gap that people aim for but is also the hardest one to manage. Basically, the toddler knows things have changed but doesn't have the understanding to appreciate that they are still loved as much as before etc and don't have the communication skills to express their worries - so they just play up instead (or at least that is what the HV told me yesterday and it does make sense). I am just holding on to the thought that it will pass......

Dummies I am all for them - used appropriately. DS1 only ever had his for nap/bedtimes and it worked like a dream - however he still has them (he is 2.5) and has started to want it all the time! In hindsight, I think we should have got rid of them a long time ago but we chickened out as we loved the fact he slept like an angel, and then we didn't want to upset him before the baby was born etc etc - always found some excuse. Anyway, am sure you all won't make that mistake

Loving the festive smileys - I can't believe Christmas is only 3 weeks away

ceebee74 · 04/12/2008 12:08

Chocolategal meant to say that Sam is only pooing once every 2 or 3 days (but when he does poo, blimey do we know about it - usually 3 huge poos in the space of 3 hours!!) and the MW said that is perfectly normal. But I see that the situation has resolved itself in the Choc household

chocolategal · 04/12/2008 12:13

thank u ceebee that is reassuring.
got my anxious at everything 1st timer hat on!!!

ChocOrange05 · 04/12/2008 12:26

For those who have done GF before, or any type of routine with a baby, how long until they started settling for naps / nighttime without the need for you to go in 5/10/20 times before they will???

I know he's only 3 and a half weeks old so I don't expect it yet but just looking for something to aim towards! And if anyone says it can't be done I will cry!!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 04/12/2008 13:29

ChocO, not sure as I'm of the cuddle em or BF to sleep school of parenting at this age. We don't do shush patting to settle until about 6 months.

I'm going to stick my neck out here (and please don't be cross with me!) but I'm worried that expecting him to slot into a routine and fighting against him to make him fit that routine is causing you unneccesary stress at the minute. I personally would just go with the flow at the minute and enjoy sitting on the sofa cuddling him while you can. They are only this tiny for such a short time, and I really wish that I had spent more time just cuddling DS1 when he was very new rather than fighting to get him in a routine and making myself miserable and ill.

Rosa · 04/12/2008 13:59

SHhh dd also did 2 3 hrs blocks last night so thats 2 nights in a row - also she has not needed colic drops or a top up could things be getting better ?- However when at home she wants to be constantly on the boob which is a nightmare . Today I had to do dd1 nursery and I hate the step thing on the pram for dd1- It breaks your back . DD has to sort of lean inwards and under the handle poor thing - well better get used to it but at least somebody helped me on the bridge on the way home poor dd1 was shattered and wanted to be carried.
Love the christmas name I have no inspiration at all !!!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 04/12/2008 14:11

how about ChristmasRosa....as in christmas rose?

chocolategal · 04/12/2008 14:20

daisy that message for chocorange made me feel a bit better, i am doing VERY little around the house as Ewan falls asleep in my arms after feeding time and i just sit and cosy him in!
was thinking i should be putting him in moses basket so i can get stuff done, but i just love looking at him!
maybe a balance of the 2 is what i need!

so far no xmas cards done........

did get tickets to see Britney next year tho!!
LOL!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 04/12/2008 14:45

Afternoon everyone!

I hope you all had half decent nights.

Zack did really well last night. He was put in his moses basket for the first part of the night, so 11.30 - 2.50. He was asleep again for 3.30 and next woke at 6.30 for a nappy change/feed and then we woke at 9.15 . This is where I love homeschooling, no mad rush in the mornings!

Love the new names Daisy! If anyone can think of a Chrismtasy name for me, I have barely got 2 braincells to rub together right now, lol!

Re dummies: There are times I wish Z would take one, like when I want to eat my tea while it's hot without giving myself heartburn from wolfing it down. Z acts like you are trying to murder him when I put a dummy anywhere near his mouth, complete with hysterical screaming, back arching and breath holding. Methinks the boy does not like dummies . Ds2 never took to a dummy either but had sensory issues, but ds1 loved his dummies and in hindsight, we used it as a method to shut him up . I was young and completely inexperienced. He had a dummy until he was 3.5 and loved them so much that he went to bed with about 4 incase he lost them and used to have one in his mouth and one in each had, one of which had to be rubbed across his nose when he was tired . We finally got him to donate his dummies to the baby reindeers. ON Xmas eve he left his dummies and a not to father christmas telling him that he was now a big boy and that the baby reideers needed the dumies more than he did and in return father christmas gave him a shiney blue bike! It worked really well, he didn't even ask for a dummy on xmas night.

The HV came around today to weigh Zack. He is 4 weeks old tomorrow (where is the time going?), was born at 8lb 11oz, went down to 8lb 8oz and is now a stagering 11lb 6.5oz . I hope he doesn't continue to put on nearly 3lb every 4 weeks or he will soon outweigh ds2! It's no wonder he has outgrown all his newborn stuff and has already filled out his 0-3.

zonedout · 04/12/2008 15:06

Help please! A quick question for 2nd and more timers...

My little premmie was 8 weeks on monday and as such had his first set of immunisations this morning at about 10.45... since we got home at middayish he has barely stopped screaming (which is very out of character for this normally placid little chap)... its a really desperate, red in the face, choking, hard to soothe scream...do you think it could it be the injections bothering him already? I was expecting a bit of a fever tonight or so, i think this feels a little soon after the jabs... i have absolutely no memory of what happened with ds1 and wonder if any of you lovely ladies may be any the wiser as am feeling a little worried now.

Oblomov · 04/12/2008 15:26

ChocO, agree with Daisy. You are asking too much of him to fit perfectly, into GF.
I love routine as you know. BUT I HATE HATE HATE it when people stress whne their babies don't fit perfectly. Be glad of good days, and when there are bad, take what you can out of it. BUT NEVER EVER stress. Please. Promise me.

Our night not too bad. Bad day. I have cried ands cried and cried tody. oestopath bad. argument with dh first thing this morning. he left, leaving me on my own to get ds dressed. shouted and swore at ds this morning. have double booked myself with dozy and cargirl for tomorrow.VERY VERY BAD DAY.

Pinkglow · 04/12/2008 15:27

Dozymare I should be able to make it on friday but have to attend a doctors appointment first and Ill need to ring tomorrow to get the appointment first where abouts are you?

Henry will take a dummy when he needs to calm himself, that and a big hug will normally calm him from the trauma of a bath or being dressed. But he wont take one to sleep so i dont give him one then.

Oblomov · 04/12/2008 15:27

zoned, some do get very very unsettled after immunisations. not uncommon at all. I would put it down to that , for today. see how he is tomorrow. come back to us, if necc.

zonedout · 04/12/2008 15:31

thanks obs and sorry to hear of your shocker of a day. tomorrow will be better

Yorky · 04/12/2008 15:43

found you all! DH takes computer to work for one day and I get so far behind!

zonedout - all I can say is calpol! and hope he's better soon, don't remember DS reacting much to be honest.

Sorry for those not sleeping, DH is away again tonight and while I'm dreading bath/bedtime it will be so nice not to have him snoring next to me while DD is feeding. She seems to be working on 3hr feeds overnight (11, 2, 5ish) which isn't too bad for 2wks old, apart from the fact that she didn't want to settle after feeding at 230 last night so we were up for 1.5hrs, I even woke DH and asked him to change and wind her as I'd already been up for an hour - 10mins later he gave her back for more to eat!

Going to register her tomorrow

One odd question - where her ribs meet in the middle her breastbone feels very prominent, forgot to ask HV when she was here the other day, is it just the way she is or is it worth asking about?

Baby did hand painting today - made her own Christmas bauble! Sucker mummy, DS made handprint mugs at nursery for grandads and the lady mentioned Christmas decorations and I took the bait! Cute little handprint though!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 04/12/2008 15:47

zonedout.....you can give them calpol after their immunisations.

DD screamed for about four hours after her imms, and only calpol calmed her down.

I thought with preemies they gave them their imms at the adjusted age? so your DS wouldn't get his till 13 weeks?

Snowy photos on profile

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 04/12/2008 15:51

Yorky, I would ask the HV about DD's breast bone, just to set your mind at rest

Do you fancy meeting up next Friday? I'll do lunch if you like
