Hello everyone,

am feeling a lot better about work now the xmas hols are approaching I don't have to go in at all betw Xmas and new year AND I have taken xmas eve off as well!!!! feel really lucky as I know lots of working mums do not have this luxury.

Am not really bothered about parties this year, just want to spend all my free time with my lovely little DS - or maybe that's just the guilt of the fulltime WOHM, I don't know.

Ginger more {{{[hugs]}}} for you - I know hugs are not PC on mumsnet but I had a mc at 11wks before I had DS and really feel for you

Can DS be teething without any teeth???? He is chewing on my fingers and crying and hitting himself on the head but I can't feel or see any teeth in there, not even little white bits. He will only eat hard things like toast and rusks atm.

Gill79 · 15/12/2008 13:10

just waiting for Malc to wake up so we can get off to our christmas party at drop-in group. I have warm sausage rolls and he is dressed up in santa pyjamas

Ginger nice to hear from you. You'll get there again I'm sure.

Malc woke up at 10.30 last night and we didn't get him back to sleep until 1.30am. And of course that was when I finally gave in and gave him booby. If I hadn't have done that he'd probably have been up all night.

OOOOh I want to go to the party I wish he'd wake up!!!

Gill79 · 15/12/2008 13:13

yes he can be teething Sally. Most definitely!!

Sorry to hear about your mc too. Seems to be so common. Why are {{{ }}} not PC btw? I like them!

gingermumi · 15/12/2008 13:38

hugs are cool as far as i'm concerned and thanks for them, you've all been so kind, i really appreciate it. Thanks for comments strawb

Am v of party gill, toby has nursey party on friday, should be lots of fun, dd2 is coming too!

Sally, thanks for your hugs too and sounds very much like teething to me!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 15/12/2008 13:51

Hope your party goes well gill and at malc's nocurnal waking!!!!!

i have just rearranged the nursery so dd has a little more room in there,(where does all the dust come from???? think its time to remove the changing unit as i never use it anymore as dd is just too mobile and wil def come off it!!! its become a shelf for all the cuddly toys!!!!

Hi sally, glad you have a nice break over xmas,

Strawberry is your ds on the mend now??

Egg · 15/12/2008 13:55

Hello ginger was just thinking I should text you this morning to see how you are. Glad you are feeling a bit better. It must be really hard am glad Toby is keeping you smiling! I dont think your age should be a problem if you feel you can try again (says Egg the fertility expert ).

Have not been to Paultons Park but have heard good things about it. Next year when weather is a bit better I think we will all try to go for a day out.

Gill pleeeease can we have a pic of gorgeous Malc in his santa pjs? Am horrified by your night last night, he certainly has some staying power to be up so long! I realise I am really quite lucky at the mo with my two. We are off to inlaws next Monday and am praying all DCs sleep well there. Last time we went (August) DS1 was sleeping til 8am every day (rarely gets past 7am at home) but DTs were up well before 6 each morning.

I am now recovered from my hangover. I used to manage 7 pints without any probs. Clearly no longer!

Sally and Strawb, bet you are very excited about the time off over Christmas!

Jacksmama you are very funny, I think you are fitting in well on here! Glad you made the most of your time and had some sleep, I always fail to do that!

Leesmum hope you are feeling lots better, will type out recipe in a mo, it is very easy (I am crap cook).

Just wrote out 16 tags for the little bottles of cava for nursery staff, and stuck christmas stars on them all. I am quite excited about handing them over now!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 15/12/2008 14:12

Egg- i took my pots of gold and snowman soup to preschool today and the teachers were all thrilled with them [proud] some of the moms were impressed too!!!!lol

Ds did his first nativity play and it was fantastic, he was a king carrying the gold for baby jesus, all the children did a fantastic job and were so well behaved, (how do 3 teachers make looking after 39, 3 and 4 yr olds look so calm and easy!!!!????!!!!

swottybetty · 15/12/2008 14:47

hello all. v i missed such a busy night here on saturday... . tho on reflection, i think i'd've rather been with egg for her evening out (if not her morning afterwards)

only just read all posts and will testing fate and willing dd to wake if i to write a proper post. SO just a quickie to say hello ginger, glad you chatting to us.

twould have been a travesty had jls won. alex super super good. leesmum and sarah, hate to say it but you both would fit in v well here inc roydon where people were wearing jls t-shirts .

and we have stair climbing!! dd can get up the five stairs off our landing in under 4 min.

ooh, and gill, we had a sitting at opp ends of flat moment too this w-end. dh meant to eat at school (duty w/end) but got time wrong. asked me what there was for dinner. i listed four five things that could be done. not admittedly very exciting - jackets, bacon sarnies and the like. so he dismisses each suggestion, culminating with a "i'm not having a drink for dinner" when i suggest a bowl of my yummy homemade chicken soup i used to love cooking, but then i used to only do dinner each day, and even then only five times a week. now i makes meals four times a day.

so much for my brief post.

Egg · 15/12/2008 16:08

Betty I would tell DH to pee off. My DH rarely gets homecooked food from me , but then he never has! No wonder his mum thinks I am a bit crap!

OOh Sarah, DS1 has his first christmas concert on Thursday. They all have to wear green tops and black trousers and he has been singing lots of christmas songs lately. He seems to know all the words to all the songs [smug] and he is only little. Best by far is Little Donkey.

Strangely DS2 has given up on stair climbing. Actually thinking about it, it's not that strange as the last time he did it he fell back down four stairs . DD has now started trying to climb into the bouncy chair and is crawling like a small robot dwarf. She is really very funny.

DS1 and I are making rice krispie cakes tomorrow for his nursery party after the concert on Thursday. Shall we have a sweepstake on how many are actually left to take with us!

Ooh leesmum sorry, here is recipe for you...

Preheat oven to 200 degrees / fan 180 / gas mark 6.
Slice 3 medium courgettes and steam for 10-15 mins until soft.
Place 200g washed baby spinach in a pan, cover and cook for 3-4 mins.
In a pan mix 20g each of butter and plain flour, with 200ml milk. Heat, mixing with a whisk until the sauce bubbles for a minute.
Remove from heat and stir in two-thirds of 100g grated cheddar.
Arrange veg in ovenproof dish and pour over sauce. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
Bake on top shelf for 25 mins.
Mash or blitz into a puree.

Now...I found it was too runny (would have been ok for when they were 6 months old) but as courgettes and spinach both a bit watery I ended up adding mashed potato to thicken it a bit. I think next time I will probably cook some potato in the dish with the veg. I also added extra cheese!

Today I poached some cod to mix with spuds and veg and my house stinks. Worse than when I do mixed fish. It is foul.

alkar · 15/12/2008 18:12

Spent the night in hospital with DS last night. Why is it always the boys? He had a high temp all day and a rash all over his body, at 11pm I'd given him all the calpol and brufen he could have in a day and his temp was still 39.9 so we took him to A&E. Stripped him off and sat him in a cubicle which had the windows open, me and DH were freezing but DSs temp was stil 38.8 so they admitted him overnight. Came back home this aft and he does seem a bit better, his temp is back down and he's feeling very sorry for himself when he's awake. Don't know what it is, they just said a viral infection but have given him antibiotics???

swottybetty · 15/12/2008 19:14

oh alkar poor little thing. i have fretting over dd's cold and the thought of her poorly in hospital sends shivers down spine. what is his temp now? you must be shattered.

egg -yes, i may cook but it takes earth-wind-and-fire tyoe miracles to get me anywhere near housework. whereas you steam clean your carpet. when preg with twins, and afterwards too. i am not sure which is more scary impressive. dh and i just both tired. his duty at school is harder on us both than we anticipated. but i should prob just shut up, cause we're really lucky.

OP posts:
Egg · 15/12/2008 20:01

Alkar how scary . Hope your little man is doing ok. I am presuming if they have let him go home that the rash is just a viral one (DS1 had his first one a couple of months ago, it was horrid). He had been ill with a temp for a day or two and then got the rash, but it went on its own after another day or so. Luckily for us he didn't seem to be too unwell and his temp was manageable with calpol. Has he got any other probs (cough / sick / snotty etc)? For a few days when DS2 was ill he just wanted to sleep or lie on me cuddled up, which is totally unlike him normally as DH calls him the Lone Ranger as he likes to roam around exploring on his own and eating new things he finds!

Anyway, sorry for rambling again, am thinking of you I hope he is ok.

Betty I am not really into housework either! I first steam cleaned last year after DS1 had had a few vomiting incidents and the twins were imminent and I was worried about teeny newborns on our rancid carpet. Then of course those teeny newborns puked copiously 3 or 4 times a week for the first 9 months or so, and it really is essential! I actually want to hire someone professional to come in and do it as I dont feel I am getting it really clean (it has a permanent damp smell about it now, and am sure it can't help any of our health!).

gingermumi · 15/12/2008 20:18

Poor you alkar, could it be bronchiolitis? Watch out for a bad chest hun! Take care. X

strawberrycornetto · 15/12/2008 21:17

Oh Alkar, what is it with these boys? Being in hospital is so scary, I really hope he's on the mend now.

Egg, lol at your lone ranger. DS is just like that, especially eating whatever he finds!! We could also do with a steam cleaner, DS's carpet has been completely ruined by projectile vomitting!

. Sorry am too tired tonight to write a proper message. Not sure why, I didn't work very hard today.

loobyt · 16/12/2008 07:37

Hello all, we have had a bad couple of days here. I have had food poisoning. Was really, really ill on sunday and not good yesterday and just so weak today. can't face eating incase I'm sick again. DS has another cold and a cough poor litle thing. So not been a good few days here.

Gill - how did the Christmas party go, bet your DS looked sooo cute.

Egg - 7 pints would like me! I have found a 3.9% wine in Tesco which is great as I don't get a hangover from it but I can still feel like a grown up

Good to hear from ginger, hope your DS is helping to keep your spirits up x

No christmas plans here just looking forward to the three of us spending time together.

By the way has anyone tried that Badgers sleep balm? DS trying to help type so better go!

loobyt · 16/12/2008 07:39

Oh Alkar hope your DS is okay now, what a sickly bunch we have here. Best to get it all out of the way before Christmas though!

loobyt · 16/12/2008 07:41

Me again, that should say '7 pints would kill me'

alkar · 16/12/2008 11:51

Put DS to bed last night in a pair of pjs and a summer sleeping bag, didn't want to take the risk of him getting too hot but I bet he was freezing. He slept til 8.40 though so I dont think it was too bad. His temp seems ok today, but he wants lots of cuddles and sleep.

Weirdly, when we got back from the hospital yesterday he started proper crawling and he's been commando crawling since he was 7 months old - very odd

gingermumi · 16/12/2008 12:44

Glad he's picking up alkar, wierd about the crawling. I though ds would forget how to do because he was confines to hospital cot for a week but he was like a thing possessed when he came home and crawled more than before!

am trying hard not to get down and have been for a long walk today and we are going to singing group later. Back to work tomorrow, decided I needed to get back to normal even though I have a certificate until the end of the week. Was getting a tad depressed and having been down that road before (a few years ago) want to try to take my mind off things so hopefully it wont take hold. off to get some luch wjile ds asleep!

gingermumi · 16/12/2008 12:45

off to get some LUNCH WHILE ds asleep...der....

alkar · 16/12/2008 12:49

Enjoy your lunch ginger. M/c is a horrible thing to go through, I had one before I got pregnant with DS. It happens to so many people, you can get pregnant again xx

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 16/12/2008 15:22

hi everyone,

dd also today has started to crawl properly after months of slithering everywhere backwards!!!!!! she looks so funny,i had to take her tights off as she kept sliding on the wooden floor, (must admit that i am glad she is now going as am sick of the funny looks when people ask if she is crawling !!!!!!she has also pulled herself to standing position with the help of ds's car garage!!!!

although i try to ignore other people, sometimes its annoying!!!lol

Ginger good to hear you are feeling a little better, (i really do notknow what to say to you) when do u break up for the xmas hols???

how is everyone doing anyhow???

strawberrycornetto · 16/12/2008 19:24

Hello. Alkar, glad your DS seems better. How has he been today? My poor little DS has been back to hospital and seems to have pneumonia again . He's been very clingy and I am having a nightmare trying to work out what to do about work, because I just can't bear to leave him. . He's also lost weight so he's lighter than he was in mid October and is now under the 0.2 centile.

at the proper crawling. My little soldier is still commando! He's trying to pull up on me but not much else!

rozzyraspberry · 16/12/2008 19:38

Alkar and strawberry - sorry your lo's have been poorly. I can understand you not wanting to leave your ds strawberry - could you take some parental leave to take you up to the xmas holidays and hopefully he'll be fully recovered before you go back again?

Nice to hear from you Ginger. I've no idea how you're feeling but you're being really strong. I'm sure your lovely ds is a good distraction - he must be 1 soon - is 4th Jan his birthday? I'll bet its been a quick year! I find it strange when you talk about time not being on your side - you look so young in your photos!

Ds3 crawling is proving to be 'challenging'. He keeps hauling the lights off my xmas tree and making a beeline for ds1 and ds2s unsuitable toys.

Had to go to docs today as I have a urine infection so am feeling a bit crappy. Hopefully the anti biotics will work although she wouldn't give me the strongest ones because I'm bf.

Went to watch ds2 singing with his class at nursery today - very cute!

strawberrycornetto · 16/12/2008 19:57

Poor you Rozzy. I just cannot believe how many of us and our LOs are sick . Lets hope we are all better by Christmas [SC crosses fingers!!]]
