strawberry take it day by day. if the drs thought he was anywhere near going to die they would be far more on the case and not let you out of sight. i remember the feeling though, sheer exhaustion will make you feel that bad. must be tough going on and on, remember they get less bugs in spring onwards and he will be stronger too. you're being a really good mum, keep going

rozzyraspberry · 20/12/2008 10:46

Ah Strawberry - poor you and poor ds. I'm sure its just that his immune system has been knocked by previous illnesses and so he's more susceptible to bugs and things. Hopefully the new year will bring more luck for you.

Ds2 definitely has chickenpox - cabin fever already setting in!!!

alkar · 20/12/2008 11:26

Agree with rozzy strawberry, your DSs immune system is low after everything he's had in quick succession. Must admit to thinking the same things about my DS, he's had 2 overnight hospital stays and 3 trips to a/e. I think, as we didn't have a proper summer, a lot of bugs weren't killed off by the extremes in temperature and they become more virulant so everyone is picking up more illnesses than usual.

Good luck with the chicken pox rozzy.

ImSallyIHaventAClue · 20/12/2008 12:31

hello everyone
gosh have missed so much!

sorry for all the lo's (and big people) who are poorly and/or not sleeping.

esp strawb - you sound like you are really down atm what with the exhaustion/ back to a challenging job/ still bf/ sick baby. I think any of us would feel the same under the circs, it is natural to worry when your dc is sick. but remember babies are v v resilient really as they are designed to survive!
and please don't worry about him being little - I and lots of my RL friends have had little LO's at some stage or other for various reasons and it always sorts itself out in the end as they always get back to whatever weight is right for them - it's too easy to become obsessed with their weight esp when elderly relatives (like mine) subscribe to the fatter=better point of view, don't whatever you do go down that road as IME it is a recipe for endless stress.

swottybetty · 20/12/2008 19:09

strawb - maybe he's having his quota of all his illnesses ever compressed into a limited period.... and he'll come out of it at xmas as Super-Immune-Boy, resilient to everything going?

i agree with everyone else that you sound so strong considering what you have on your plate. stop googling!

alkar, sorry to hear you thinking 'orrible thoughts too. and rozzy, hope the birthday wine went down well and good luck this dh-less weekend .

strawberrycornetto · 20/12/2008 19:54

Thanks everyone. I do feel better today and DS seems much better too. I am hoping he may finally have got rid of the bug. He's still a bit spotty but I have read (ok, googled ) that virul rashes can come up at the end of a virus. He's definitely coughed hardly at all today, he's started pulling up and he's generally been a real handful. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that he's finally better in time for Christmas. Sorry for being such a drama queen last night, I think it had all finally got to me, especially with DH away...

Rozzy, can't believe your DS has chickenpox over Christmas, I really hope he hasn't got it too badly?

Hope everyone else has had a good Sunday and is ready for Christmas now.

rozzyraspberry · 20/12/2008 20:19

Strawberry - all of my boys have had virul rashes at the end of viruses - generally a good sign as it means the end is nigh!!!

Ds2 is pretty chipper - the spots are getting really itchy though so I've been smothering him in camemile.

Egg · 21/12/2008 07:37

Hi all. We have been up since 5am (although awake at 4am too) as DS2 now has DDs sickness bug and threw up all his milk and supper before bed last night so was starving at 4am (and had pooed himself...). DD seems a bit better although they both threw up within 30 seconds of each other last eve, but DDs was only a small amount. She had 6 dodgy nappies yesterday mind you.

Strawb so sorry you were/are feeling so worried. As princess said, the docs would not keep you in the dark if they were even slightly worried about your DS long term. I completely understand though. I was not too worried about my DS2 when he went to hospital, but would have been way more worried if it was DD as she is so much smaller . She seems to be doing really well now and is crawling at quite a good speed.

Swotty do not apologise for moaning! You must feel shocking. I felt entirely hideously dreadful this time last year when I didn't get enough sleep, and also had a bad cold over Christmas and couldn't take drugs and medicinal booze!

Alkar did not realise how many trips to A&E your poor DS has had! Hope he is doing ok now.

Rozzy I was also thinking that if my DCs are going to get chicken pox now is the time as it is the only time nursery is closed all year! We are supposed to be driving to inlaws tomorrow for the week so I hope the DTs sickness is better. DD is currently on the floor sucking my toes which wont help [bleurgh emoticon].

OOOOPS I just re-read my last post and it said to ginger that she doesn't look 5!!!! I did of course mean 55 which she reckoned she looked! She actually looks about 21. Ginger I hope you are doing ok this weekend, as strawb said we are still thinking of you.

Better go and check on DS2. He went back to bed at 6:30 as he was so shattered, but he had (touch wood) kept his milk down. DH is in bed but he was up with all three yesterday morning while i lay awake desperately trying to get back to sleep.

Egg · 21/12/2008 07:59

Hmmm. Perhaps DD is not getting better, she just threw up all over the carpet .

strawberrycornetto · 21/12/2008 15:18

Oh Egg, yuck, poor you and the DTs. Hope they are feeling better soon. A car journey sounds bad, hope you aren't going too far!!

DS is doing well today. He's terrorising DD by speed crawling after her wherever she is and trying to eat her toys DH is back from his trip and sleeping, DS is sleeping, DD is wasing up (sory, I mean she's standing at the sink and pouring water over the floor and herself!) and I am about to start cooking a roast lamb. Domestic bliss in the strawberry household.

Egg · 21/12/2008 19:33

Hmm, well DS1 has thrown up four times since 3:30pm, DH is feeling very nauseous. I am feeling semi nauseous (but it could be nerves!) I think it is safe to say we are not driving to Devon tomorrow... (would have been at least a 2 hour drive, prob more at this time of year, with DS1 who is car sick at the best of times).

DD seems more or less ok. DS2 not really eating and bad nappies, very tired as well.

Ugh.

"Happy" Christmas .

I can cope with any of it until I am sick myself. Not been sick in 19 years , apart from once when I brought up a pint of Guinness or two after downing them in one go . Last weekend was the closest I have come to puking since I was 14. I do not want to end my record breaking puke free run. I hate being sick with a vengeance.

Strawberry am really pleased your DS sounds so much better. My DS2 loves to chase DS1 (although not so much today) and it makes me smile a lot! Remind me how old is your DD? (I could prob look at your profile of course).

loobyt · 21/12/2008 20:17

Oh egg, hope your lot don't have the sickness bug that I had, that starts with feeling nauseous but does only last a couple of days.

strawberry, glad your DS seems better, just in time for his Christmas pressies My DS still has a bit of a cough but is generally on the mend

Night all.

rozzyraspberry · 21/12/2008 20:51

Oh god egg - not what you need. Hopefully it's a 24 hour bug that'll be past before Christmas. I'm impressed with your non vomitting run - you must have a strong constitution.

We were having christmas at home this year anyway and none of our family who are coming for dinner on xmas day and boxing day mind being exposed to chicken pox so our plans won't have to be changed. Ds2 has a lot of spots although not too many on his face yet - lots in his hair though. He was up and down from 9.30 to 2am last night because he was so itchy he couldn't get back to sleep. The calamine cream doesn't really seem to be doing the trick so might go to the chemist tomorrow to see if there's anything else we can try.

Is everyone ready for christmas?

Egg · 21/12/2008 20:56

Ooh rozzy I saw something in Boots yesterday esp for chicken pox itching (cannot for the life of me remember it's name though). I think I would prefer CP than puking although I think DS1 would be high maintenance with the itching. Has your DS1 already had it? Any signs of anyone else getting it?

Yes I am sitting here at the computer praying nobody is sick again. All DCs asleep, DH feeling a bit better after some toast. I am having a BEER .

rozzyraspberry · 21/12/2008 22:16

Ds1 not had it already - have actually just been googling chicken pox and it said that you were only contagious a couple of days before the spots came out and the incubation period was 10 to 21 days. So the earliest the other 2 would come out in spots would be next weekend which is a bit of a pain because I was hoping if ds1 got it he would be fully recovered before they go back to school - ah well nothing we can do about I suppose so will just have to wait and see. Dh and I have both had it and I'm still bf ds3 so he may have a bit of my immunity?

CP definitely preferable to puking! Ds2 is fine during the day it's just at night he's getting a bit upset because of the itching. We gave him calpol last night because he was warm but have just given him medised when he was up at 9 to see if that'll give him a better nights sleep. I'll definitely go and have a look at boots.com just now to see if I can find that cream you mentioned.

CountTo10 · 21/12/2008 22:32

Rozzy - I saw that cream for the cp as well but also can't remember it, it was with all the kids specific medicines though (you knwo the aisle, the one with nit lotions, calpol, teething gels and just about everything to remind you what disease carriers children are!!!!)

We only found about the medised thing today. Sent dp down to the chemist for some cause ds2's cold has now turned into cough etc and they refused to sell it to us. Have given it to him recently as well. To be honest, bit annoying really when you know its only cause some haven't administered it properly rather than it being a problem with the stuff.

I'm full of ds2's cold, luckiily ds1 seems to have bypassed it cause I don't think I could cope with anymroe sick people!! Hope everyone is getting through all this illness. It's so depressing, especially when there's still xmas things to do. Also my car is now playing up again the bloody thing. Honestly if its not one thing its another with it!! Haven't got the money for a new one though so got to keep perservering.

Ho hm, only 4 sleeps till xmas - bring it on!!!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 22/12/2008 08:08

i have also managed to clean all the woodwork in my house , skirting boards and door frames, all my kitchen cupboards etc- where did the engergy come from?????

so my house is nice and clean for santa now!!!!heehee

what has everyone been up to?????

Egg · 22/12/2008 13:48

All kids still sick. DS1 and DD puking today. DS2 just producing endless foul nappies.

CHristmas is postponed .

strawberrycornetto · 22/12/2008 14:10

Oh Egg, there's still time for them to get better. Just hope you don't get it

All ok here, had a bit of fit at DH last night who was whinging about planning food for his family who are fussy and staying for Christmas "because he was too tired after his trip". I lost it a bit and told him I'd had a really rotten week and if he complained about jet lag when he's been skiing in Colorado I might kill him and cancel Christmas!! He saw the error of his ways and has been much more helpful since. Have now wrapped most presents, just stressing because nursery photos which are supposed to be gifts have not yet arrived.... Off to nusery soon to see DD being either an angel or Joseph (she's the understudy!). Tissues at the ready I suspect....

rozzyraspberry · 22/12/2008 15:24

Oh no Egg - is dh off work now to help you out with the sicky lo's?

I did a search on boots.com for the chicken pox cream you mentioned. I did find it but suspect the boots in our town (which is tiny) won't have it but eurax also popped up as being good for treating chicken pox and we got some of that recently when ds1 had an allergic reaction when I changed washing powder. The medised did the trick last night though - he managed to sleep right through from 9 until 7 which was great.

Its actually being lovely just spending time at home not having to rush anywhere but I think the novelty would probably wear off if we didn't have christmas to keep us occupied.

leesmum · 22/12/2008 16:07

Hi you lot x

Aww poor Egg having a housefull of poorlyness, hope your lot get better soon in time for a fab christmas are you still going away, and is it far?

Strawberry how was your DD concert, did you blub a lot? these times are so precious xxx give your in-laws beans on toast for christmas dinner ha ha!

Rozzy sorry i missed your birthday hun hope you had a good one x How's the chicken pox going, is he struggling with the itching, i have no advise cos neither of mine have had it yet and i agree it's nice not having to rush around in the mornings, actually Ds1 is staying at his grandma's tonight so he will get spoilt rotten, apparently they're having a christmas picnic!

Sarah if you have any energy left you can come and clean my house...and make truffles as well. Even though i'm looking forward to christmas i can't be arsed doing the usual frantic cleaning etc..i might start on christmas eve or then again i might not!

Count are you feeling any better? we are also counting down the sleeps, Ds1 is SOOOOOO excited. xxx

Hi to everyone else x

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 22/12/2008 21:22

3 more sleeps. !!!!!!

Gill79 · 22/12/2008 23:01

Hope you had a great birthday rozzy!

Egg fingers and toes crossed you don't get sick. There is nothing worse really. Can't believe you've been 19 years without being sick. Really hope everyone gets better enough for you to make it down to the in-laws.

Strawberry sorry that DS's illnesses were getting you down - hopefully he's going to start to put them all behind him now. I would be so cross if my DP went on a skiing trip right now let alone complained about the jetlag. Imagine you went for a week's skiing and left him holding the children. Quite. I always feel so guilty when I leave DP on his own with Malc.

We're up in Glasgow staying with the PILs and after the drive up on Saturday I jumped on a train through to Edinburgh and spent the night getting drunk with all my uni friends. We had a christmas dinner for 16 people and were up till 4 in the morning. Woo hoo. Sadly I was also up at 5.30am to express milk and almost had to lie down on the bathroom floor as I felt so bad. It was my first night away from Malcolm and although I felt a bit emotional when I heard him on the phone the next morning he seemed fine.

He's been sleeping "ok". That is we're not getting up too much in the night but haven't cracked the getting to sleep on his own bit yet.

rozzyraspberry · 23/12/2008 14:43

Gill I always feel guilty when I leave the boys with dh too - why is that? I'm always saying to him - go to the gym etc but I never take the time for myself.

Got the christmas food shop today - god what a nightmare - was soooo busy and the trolley was so heavy with all the alcohol juice/milk that it was really difficult to push. Still feel like I have so much to do - asking in-laws for christmas lunch and my family for a meal on boxing day doesn't seem like such a good idea anymore - especially since dh is now in bed ill and ds3 has been sick twice and has only slept 15 mins today.

Bah humbug!
