Morning.

No, I didn't have to organised early with presents: DH did! His family, he buys the gifts Though I helped with ideas of course.

I actually like giving to the adults in our families as well as the children. Thinking about it, Jamlet is the only child in either of our families now But I am lucky to be able to afford to do so relatively easily (though they are getting less spent on them this year what with me being part time now).

But I have had to have a word with my ILs - thye have a LOT more disposable income than my parents, and I didn't want the situation where on Xmas or birthdays there is one present from my M&D and 4 or 5 from DH's parents. Or one £100 gift compared with £10 when she is old enough to notice such things. So ILs have agreed to go easy with the gifts and add to her child trust fund instead

Morning

Feeling a bit better this morning.....actually got some sleep which helps.

I didn't eat or drink a single thing yesterday....not due to preg restrictions Natty (NB I would at all from that list as well), but because I felt so awful, and that in turn made me worse!

Thanks for all your birthday wishes for Sat.....was a run of the mill day I'm afraid....not getting my pressie (tropical fish tank) till after Christmas as otherwise I would have nowhere to put the Xmas tree. Didn't do anything, and had a Kentucky for my dinner ....life begins at 40 eh?

Off to do battle with GP this morning for ADs...was supposed to be going out for lunch, but no-one wants this cold, so have cancelled!

Jammy, driving with a screaming toddler is up there with one of my most stressful events.....I heartily recommend a portable DVD player, DVD full of cBeebies and crisps as necessary

Nice to see you JBM ....haven't seen you for ages.

LittleMissNorty · 24/11/2008 08:17

Very re HIS family, HE buys....that doesn't happen in this house....and everything I suggest he just says "oh thats fine" .....

educatingRia · 24/11/2008 10:29

me too norty. mostly DH doesn't comment. we do only buy for his parents, kids and nephews & niece on his side, but if it was left to him
sometimes he comments on what I buy for our kids...

off shopping in a minute, need to go to woolworths before it closes it's doors forever. tutorial later!

I do help with the chopping for DH's side, but he has to take responsibility. I will help him think of ideas if he asks. And in previous years, if he has known exactly what he wants to buy but can't get out to get it, I would buy it for him if I could while I was out doing my own shopping. But he managed it all himself this year I used to hate it when I would my DSis and her husband for their gift and he would laugh and say "so what did we buy you?"

Having to take jamlet home from nursery on the bus for the first time today. It was the plan when we changed her nursery, but it's happened so far that I've been able to use the car. But not tonight. I'm hoping the bus isn't too rammed full, as I've never had to juggle looking after her and collapsing the buggy and loading everything on board before. But I am determined we are NOT getting a second car!

I have bought 4 xmas gifts,. There were some good half price offers in Woolworths, and they were still 3 for 2.

No closing down sale yet then Ria? I had considered going to prop them up a little

educatingRia · 24/11/2008 15:03

I think it's a "spend more money here" sale. It was pretty busy for a Monday morning I think. I'm not bothered though, got DS1 a Lego Indiana Jones set for under £7 that should have been £9+.

suppose we should brave the weather and get DS2 from school...

OP posts:
educatingRia · 24/11/2008 15:03

sadly the lego wasn't 3 for 2. But got pink glittery stuff for DHs niece.

quiet again today.

DH has gone out to do a shooting dinner and I am BORED.

Bought Mama Mia on DVD today (£7.99 in tesco, so no wine or chocolate this week, but a DVD won't make me fat). Looking forward to him getting home so we can watch it.

Hello! Just popping on. I have nearly finished my novel and next week I will be working part time again so will be back into the folds of mumsnet

Mama Mia is great Ria!

educatingRia · 24/11/2008 19:02

well done bumper.

when does your DH start his new job? do you think you will find it frustrating being at home again?

have to go bath baggins. he is sat on top of a low drawer unit in his nappy (got sausage casserole all over his clothes) shouting MAM!!!

I have to let DS1 watch I'm a Celebrity tonight because he's left out at school because he doesn't watch (he is in bed by 9 PFB!). I have told him its complete bolleaux but he can see for himself (so long as DH not back or he'll have to go to bed...)

Yay for your novel Bumper! And double yay for part time working

Managed the bus home, but it was a muddle. I wasn't sure how long it would take me to walk to nursery, pick her up and get back to the bus stop, so we ended up 20 mins early for the bus and by the time it arrived she was fed up and grizzly. And I'd collapsed the buggy in case there wasn't much room, but there was plenty so I had to open it up again and sit her in it, all the time with her grizzling. But once we got settled and I was able to feed her bits of clementine I had saved from my lunch she calmed down.

LeakyDAISYcal · 24/11/2008 20:24

well done bumper

well done on the bus journey jammy . I loathe the public transport/children combo; it makes for a very stressful time for me and by journey's end I'm having a nervous breakdown.

Our photo shoot went well today . It was really good fun and we have hopefully got some really good shots of the kids (DH and I less important). There is one they took with all three of them sitting amongst all the teddies we took with us so I hope it has worked out well. Prints are mega bucks though, so we will see if we think them worth it when we go to see the results tomorrow.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 24/11/2008 20:36

I have used the bus plenty with jamlet, but during the middle of the day when it has been quiet and I know there will be room to just wheel her on. It was the not knowing whether to collapse the buggy or not that caused me stress. I think in future I will not bother collapsing it unless there is clearly not space, and I will also have a beaker of milk with me to help keep her happy. It will be easier when she finally manages to stand and walk by herself - please let that day come quickly!!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 24/11/2008 20:38

Glad you enjoyed the photo session. Hope you get some nice results, but not so many that you feel compelled to buy lots of prints at megabucks prices.

NattyTantrumAndEarAche · 24/11/2008 21:08

ok we've found a flat... we just gotta wait and see if we get it.
fingers crossed

educatingRia · 24/11/2008 21:09

Good luck with the flat Natty

And well done with the novel Bumper. Do you want anyone to look it over? I read loads but I'm totally starved for books in english, so I'll read anything

educatingRia · 24/11/2008 21:59

well, I think DS1 was pretty disappointed with I'm a celebrity

OP posts:
educatingRia · 24/11/2008 22:24

Arse!!! Big fat hairy bollocks!!

I woke earlier and looked at alarm clock, which was flashing - we'd had a power cut. So turned on light, checked watch, reset alarm, light off, back to sleep.

Woke a bit later, Jamlet howling. By the time I had got out of bed the radio had turned on. Must be 6.25. Got Jamlet, came down, looked at watch - only four o' fucking clock! Have tried returning jamlet to bed but she's not having it, so we are now Up Obviously misread my watch earlier when setting alarm (or we're living in some bizarre time warp thing)
