claireybeeinmyeasterbonnet · 01/04/2009 12:43

Thanks wizz, good to know we aren't alone! DD was only just starting to eat around now so going from eating to not is a new experience for me!

insywinsyspider · 01/04/2009 12:55

clairey ds goes thro periods of this, I just hope that he's eating as well at nusery as they say because some nights his not interested in dinner at all but them has enough energy and sleeps thro so until he stops doing that I'm tying not to wory about it, the past 2 mornings he's not eaten breakfast but they give him some when he arrives at nursey so I can only assume he's making up for it there.

did any of you have maternity photos done? I've been offered a free sitting and vey tempted but its so not me that I'm not sure, although would love a small tasteful black and white photo of me and my last ever bump...

claraquack · 01/04/2009 14:09

Insy - definitely get one done, tasteful black and white = good; mock-demi-moore naked on Vanity Fair cover = bad (how many have done that now?). It'll be a nice reminder of what it was like to carry a huge bump around with you all day....

Glad I'm not the only one with a naughty baby - she is SO bad compared to her sister! Is it an attention thing perhaps?

Clairey - dd2 goes through stages of eating well and then not. At the moment she is eating ok, having had a couple of off weeks while she was poorly. But I would say she defintely eats worst at the evening meal - her baked beans and hot dog ended up all over the floor yesterday too. I gave her some cheese and bread instead and she ate some of it but she definitely isn't as bothered about food at that time of day. Tiredness????

Wizz - at your ds's quacking. Dd2 tries to quack too but it sounds nothing like it. Her funniest is her attempt at a pig's snort which she hears a lot because Peppa Pig is on in our house so often. She sort of does a half cough and looks very proud of herself.

insywinsyspider · 01/04/2009 15:26

claiey clara just reminded me that the boys have their main meal at lunch because they eat better so maybe tiredness

clara ds2 is def cheekier than ds1, he's learning all the tricks from him!
not sure I'd be naked in photo, its a bloke photographer and I've not got enough body confidence for that! going to google pg photos and see if I can get some inspiration on what I'd like, its a free session so nothing lost if I hate it!

EasterBunnysWizzskas · 01/04/2009 15:31

I only have pictures I took myself on a timer Insy. Am amazed at how big I was. Only now am I nearly back to normal, I think about 4 pounds to go until pre pg weight. Then hopefully it all starts again.

Doctorskidaddle · 01/04/2009 20:41

Hi wizz, I was wondering what had happened to you - thought you might be off puking your guts up/lying exhausted on the sofa (i.e. preg!). Are you going to start ttc in the next few months then? Think we might do the same although when I think about being pg and having two DC to look after it does make me wonder..

clara - what a nightmare re DD2's 'violence' - I would do exactly as you are doing and just hope that it eventually had an effect. DD did this too and after a looooong time she seemed to get the message that it wasn;t worth doing because it didn't get her any attention. I sympathise though as it is irritating in the extreme, not to mention painful... we are lucky with Milo as he crumples at the tiniest bit of crossness in my voice so he always stops the second I say no - although then I have to hug him for 5 mins as he is sobbing like his little heart is broken

clairey - yes mine go through stages too of eating and not eating. I tend to ignore it and they always go back to eating again. I am more worried about what they eat atm. I am getting really annoyed at our nursery as the two days they are there they seem to always have sausage and chips, pizza and chips etc. Fair enough they chuck in a few frozen peas but it's hardly what you'd call healthy. Like insy's DC that is the meal they eat most at so it annoys me that they are given such rubbish food (especially as they come home and turn their noses up at my delicious home-cooked vegetable-rich delights!!!)

buzzybee · 02/04/2009 06:51

DrSkid - you've given the opportunity to proudly say that at my childcare centre we are targeting getting "healthy heart" accreditation which is a scheme run in NZ by the National Heart Foundation. Our cook is very proud of the fact that everything is made fresh - she even makes her own crackers (but not bread admittedly...)

Insy maybe you could go with something figure-hugging even if not in the buff! Like a lycra dress or something? You don't want any confusion

Ambi · 02/04/2009 08:44

Clairey, DD also stopped eating much at lunch, but then would have loads at dinner so I tried not to worry too much.

insywinsyspider · 02/04/2009 09:45

buzzy I have a dress from mothercare which I love and hugs bump in v flattering way so maybe I should try that...

our nursey also has its own chef and a 'heart' award, they seem to have lovely meals and moe importantly stuff I wouldn't cook for them, I just don't tend to do stews so good they get variety, I also find they eat things there they won't eat at home like tuna, and we've only just got ds to take cows milk at home where as he'll quite happily down 6oz at nursery

BouncingTurtle · 02/04/2009 11:10

Skid - that is rubbish! The nursery DS goes to never serves chips. It is a pretty good menu they have, they have spag bol, cottage pie, thai curry and rice and plenty of veg. Desserts are cake & custard varied with fruit and yoghurt. I think Ds eats better than I do
It's a lovely day here!

claireybeeinmyeasterbonnet · 02/04/2009 12:01
claireybeeinmyeasterbonnet · 02/04/2009 12:09

Insy I vary tbh, depends what I have in the fridge! Sometimes they'll have sandwich type meal at lunch, othertimes cooked. Evening is usually cooked but last night I gave them cheese, ham and cucumber and let them eat it on the floor in the conservatory-ds ate most of it so maybe that's the way forward

Skid I wouldn't expect nursery to serve freezer food tbh, they always seem to have really healthy menus (I am basing that on the meal plans I have seen stuck on friends fridges btw-no idea if they actually stick to them!)

Insy defo do the pic, the dress sounds good

insywinsyspider · 02/04/2009 12:27

skid every nursery we visited was pushing the home cooked thing, it is supprising they serve chips, I'd have thought it was a no no after all media stuff about school meals, you should speak to them about it

clairey my ds's love having picnics at home, I just do 'finger bits' (as my mum used to call them ) on nursery days, so much less work than trying to cook after work with 2 whingy children round my legs, I usually sit them down and start throwing food at them whilst I make sandwiches - sounds like a greta plan and less stress for you

claraquack · 02/04/2009 13:43

Oh I give my dd's chips - is that bad? They are low fat oven chips and they usually only have them once a week or so but I hadn't realised they were so evil! They also get sausage rolls, hot dogs, chicken nuggets (although the proper chicken ones), pizzas and lots of crap like penguin bars, chocolate biscuits etc (dd1). Oh and dd2 is currently having sugar puffs every day for breakfast.

They both eat quite a lot of fresh fruit and veg every day and a good variety of food so I am not too worried.

Tbh, I don't have time/energy to cook lots of lovely healthy meals that they then won't eat so I have taken to cutting a few corners.

Both dh and I are "foodies" so they will grow up seeing us cooking and eating lots of good, healthy meals from scratch so I am sure they will be fine in the long run.

claraquack · 02/04/2009 13:44

That was a really long message trying to justify why I feed my children crap sometimes. Must be feeling guilty. Yup another thing for us mums to beat ourselves up about!

insywinsyspider · 02/04/2009 14:10

clara def not bad to serve up chips - i read the back of the packet, ingredients: potato, veg oil but as I'm paying a nursery I expect 'healthy' meals otherwise I'd feel I had to cook at home on work night and I like being able to do sandwiches (yes with crisps which my friend with no children was about ) and chicken nuggets, beans on toast etc plus mine are rubbish at eating fruit and veg, no real objection they just shy away from it, at least I know they are getting offered a good selection even if they don't eat it
I've just banned chocolate and sweets during the week tho as I think my boys are nutty enough without it, dh bought ds's an ice cream from van last night and ds1 was loopy, had to take him for walk aross fields before bed to burn off energy, if def has an affect on them

anyway that was a long post to say I'm sure you don't feed your children crap and if you do we do too

claireybeeinmyeasterbonnet · 02/04/2009 15:57

Clara mine get chips too(and a whole other load of crap), when I was pregnant with ds dd lived off pasta, fishfingers, chicken nuggets, chips and peas! I'd only say it was bad if that is all the nursery serves them and it sounds as though Skid's children get chips at nursery a lot. Mine aren't low fat either, don't do anything low fat in this house

BouncingTurtle · 02/04/2009 16:37

Claraq - don't worry about it... I sometimes give ds shreddies as an afternoon snack! Well it gets a bit more milk into him!
Chips once a week won't do them any harm - but as Insy said - we are paying the nursery enough to expect them to dish up healthy home cooked foods - after all when you buy chips, chicken nuggets etc., for home - you are choosing which ones to get and which ones you consider to be acceptable - if the nursery were feeding this sort of thing to DS I would not be happy because I wouldn't know what brand or quality they were!

Caz10 · 02/04/2009 21:45

Evening all, my tired tuppenceworth on the crap food debate is that we eat it here too! But not all the time - it's a balance isn't it? My concern would be as BT said the brand and quality - it can vary so much when you look at the packets - dd LOVES fishfingers but i'm quite fussy with which ones i buy!

re teeth we have 4 molars now, god that was painful for everyone concerned! Then about a week of not teething and now it has all started again!! Aaargh. Think this is top eye teeth now, back to runny stinky nappies, temperature and not sleeping - joy!!

Hey lovely ladies.

Loving the Easter bunny emoticons. Like how they tell you to put an f in front and then give you the demo of putting a b in front.... Makes me yearn for the days when I made worksheets for my classes with all sorts of wrong numbering spelling etc. All typos you understand. I'd never spell anything wrong otherwise.... We used to play "where's Mrs Dean's mistake today" with each class.. happy memories.

Ah yes - less whimsy more crap food. Urm - mine jump up and down when I tell them it's sausage roll day. DS calls Thomas the Bakers "the sausage roll shop". And we do that cardianlly awful sin of using the crap food as a bribe for getting the carrots down em. Have found Lazytown a good way of getting DS to try a few more veg. "Look sweetheart, It's Sports Candy!!" And also " You need to eat your veg up because they have vitamins and vitamins stop you getting poorly. And what does Daddy have to do when he's poorly?" (Chiming chorus of "Stay in bed all day!!" "And would you like to stay in bed all day?" "Noooooooo!" Wish DH would eat a few more veg and fruit to set an example. All a bit pointless me defrosting loving preparing homecooked meals when he just eats chocolate.....

Arcadie · 03/04/2009 14:26

Ooooh - I've just done some more reading back and Wizz is back! Hi Wizz. Don't get too skinny or we'll have to ignore you..

Arcadie · 03/04/2009 14:33

Insy I had some nekkid photos of me done with DS ( or was it DD - can't remember) I don't show them to anyone but I like to remember what I looked like. Then on the days when i feel like I still look as though I'm 6 months pregnant I can remind myself that I don't really. Also had a set of photos done every month or so with the same pair of jeans and same very figure hugging white vest on - I think it was an H&M Mama top. You've probably had the photos done now anyway. If you get to, post them..... Or FB them.

Arcadie · 03/04/2009 14:36

Claireybee I'm with you . no more talk of TTC. I'm too - because I was the first in my "set" of chums to get pg, I'm also going to be the first to stop procreating. Which means all my chums are having the excitement of the little blue line, the blooming tummy, the snuggly delicious newborn. It makes me want more but that's a really bad reason for having nmore isn't it? Isn't it? I should stop hankering after more kids and carry on selling all my baby things at the NCT right!?

And all the people discussing violent siblings. Any advice on how to get DS ( 3yrs) to stop rugby tackling DD (15 months) to the floor? And then cuddling her and kissing her until she cries?

BouncingTurtle · 03/04/2009 15:43
