OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
buzzybee · 17/02/2009 09:36

Hi Insy - I'm trying to take the "all publicity is good publicity line" to make myself calmer. But yes all the parents have been really good so I guess that's what matters!

I'm with you on the finding out gender front - couldn't have born waiting (no pun intended ) Good on you for planning a home birth too.

Yes we're on cows milk but she probably only has about 300-400ml per day. Plus a small bottle (150ml) of formula at night as after trial and error I decided she slept better after formula before bed rather than cows milk.

Molar number 3 appeared today!

claraqupid · 17/02/2009 10:02

Hi Insy - we have been on cows milk for a couple of months. She now has anout 5oz in the morning and 8-9 oz at night. No problems.

Love the names.

Buzzy - hope the doc doesn't cause any problems.

Can't write anymore, dd1 is stropping and telling me to "stop using your computer" (guilty emoticon)....

cazzybabs · 17/02/2009 11:17

Buzzy - what a nightmare. Mind you sounds like some SAHM mothers I know...too much time to worry about things. I hope it all works out OK...and they do say any publicity is good.

Arcadie · 17/02/2009 13:50

BT Yay for a good outcome for friends and jobs and ADs

Buzzy that sounds like a nightmare - so sorry. We got the 3rd huge enormous built like a tank molar through today. Happy again.

Insy DD has about 6 oz of cow's milk in the morning and then a little with breakfast and that's all the milk she gets. Is that ridiculously little? She refuses it at bed now...
Lyra's a gorgeous name - any reference to dark Materials heroine? My good chum has Edward Noah (18 months) 2 great names.

Cazzy I've spent at least 4 of the 14 months DD's been around convinced I was pg. The heightened sense of smell, the lack of AF, the migraines. I think with me it's a little bit of psychosomatic would really deep down like to have the excitement of pgnancy again. But not the baby at the other end. Take the test so I can live vicariously through you you know for sure. And then post immediately.

cazzybabs · 17/02/2009 14:02

Arcadie - and me. I have been concinved I have been pregnant for most of the time since Evie was been born. 1st there was the lack of AF till Nov and then none till 6 weeks after...so this will be the 3rd one since Evie. But then there is the sick feeling, the hurting boobs and tirdness...but that could just be running around after 3 LOs. OH GOD please don't let me, but you are right I will take a test but I am going to wait till the w/e. but I really couldn't be because of the mini-pill.

becklespeckle · 17/02/2009 14:23

Thanks for good wishes for DH's job! He is a very good worker BT, he never sees it himself but he is very practically minded and a bit of a perfectionist about his work. He is one of those annoying people who are good at anything practical.

Clara, the posting does sound fab I have to say and I'm sure the girls will be fine there, especially if you are staying for a while. How different is the culture there?

Insy, 23 weeks already! Glad the scan was good! Love the names BTW, Bear is a lovely shortening for Edward - I have a friend whose Edward is known as Teddy (Ted now he's older) and it really suits him. Sorry to hear your job is uncertain though, fingers crossed it will all be fine.

Clairey, sounds like your DS is just testing his boundaries, if you keep being firm with him about when he has his milk and such then he will get used to it and the crying should stop. How long has he been like it?

Buzzy, have not watched your clip (but will do once can get sound working on pooter again) but FGS, did that woman not check local planning before buying her house? Besides, I think the sound of children playing is a lovely one. Hopefully it will have no negative effect for you, that woman sounds like a pita! (perhaps others will think the same and flood to your day-care centre just to annoy her )

Cazzy, I would not be able to wait to do a test I don't think! The mini-pill is not as reliable as the combined one either, esp if you don't take it at exactly the right time each day. Saying that, I am on the mini-pill too and often get pg like symptoms just before AF arrives - don't know if you are like me but I only get 1 or 2 a year while I am taking it, its quite normal for your cycle to slow right down (and my cycles are very long/erratic anyway).

BouncingTurtle · 17/02/2009 14:43

Insy - Edward is ds's middle name, I think it is fab! I like Lyra too!

I've got an ad in the small business section

insywinsyspider · 17/02/2009 16:34

Arcadie - yes lifted straight from the book, love the name and think she's quite a cool tom boy character so not a bad one to be named after imo, gone down tradional route for boys names as needs to fit with ds1 and 2's names (both of which are in top 50)
and I don't think your dd is getting too little milk, thats all my ds1 had (only the 6oz) at night at this age, ds2 is a milk fiend and quite happy to be very vocal about not liking any other milk in his beaker except formula

buzzy - glad parents have been positive, take the support from them. Think we'll stick with formula at night to for a while, kind of feel if it isn't broke why change it but the amount he drinks in day is ridiculous, I don't mind making up 7oz bottle at night but far too expensive for day time

Thanks everyone else for milk update too - so lovely to have you guys here to check things against, don't know if it having no2 but I bearly know anyone with dc same age as ds2 where as had group of mummy friends all with lo's born within 8 wks of ds1

BT - I have a feeling Edward is about to be popular this year - its not in top 100 and think it might creep in soon!

claireybeemine · 17/02/2009 17:50

Insy how exciting! Love the names (and obviously all Claires are lovely!)
Am in the same situation wrt children ds' age, even though we moved area just before dd was one so lost the postnatal group friends everyone I have met has children roughly her age. There are a few babies who are 6 months ish, they'll be in the same school year as ds I suppose but right now there is a huge age difference!

Milk, ds was having cows milk twice a day but he refuses it now and just cries for boob. He will usually drink a little bit in the evening when dd has her milk though because he wants to be like her. I also got a hot chocolate into him the other day, not sure I want to go the route of adding chocolate powder to it though!

Beckle he has been like it pretty much since birth! Have never really got into a routine with him for milk, everytime I thought we were he has changed. He has a rough routine for solids and sleep though so I'm hoping he will start to associate bf with certain times of day like you say...oh the screams though! Find my blood rising sometimes and get really cross with him so hope he gives in soon. I wouldn't mind even feeding him several times a day but not ALL DAY like he wants!

Buzzy sounds a nightmare. Some people will complain about anything though, especially if they think there might be money in it.

Clara glad you have reached a decision, when do you hear for definite? And can I come to visit?!

BT actully he'll probably love the pink wellies, it seems to be his favourite colour!

Cazzy test test test! FWIW I have also had pg symptoms a few times, even when I hadn't had sex! And my periods have also been random, august, october, december and january (but different times of month each time)

claireybeemine · 17/02/2009 17:53

And I still can't get over all this talk of molars! DD is still awaiting her third molar! Ds seems to be stuck on 6 teeth, 4 top, 2 bottom

Caz10 · 17/02/2009 20:32

hi all!

4 top teeth and 2 bottom teeth here too - but with a MASSIVE lump on both bottom gums, and a crying, snotty, rashy baby, so I'm guessing some molars are on the way!

Milk - we do BF in the morning, bottle of cows milk/formula (half and half) mid morning, same again mid afternoon, then BF before bed and sometimes once over night. Occasionally at the weekends she will ask for a BF instead of the bottle. I think it's probably too much tbh but she is still eating 3 good meals plus snacks, so I;m not too fussed!

clairey poor you re the BF, I must admit although I was very sad to give up day time feeds when I went back to work there is a certain element of freedom that seems to come with it, and it is quite nice just to give her a bottle sometimes!

Arg - speaking of crying babies....

BouncingTurtle · 17/02/2009 20:38

My ds is just like yours Clairey - still a real boob monster!

He has 8 teeth altogether!

He also has had a bit of a reaction to the MMR, he slept well last night, only waking up twice for booby, just before 1am then 5am. When he woke up at 5am he was chatting, but I did put him back in his cot and he feel asleep! Dh had to go and wake him at 6.45 so we could get him ready to go to nursery! Very unusual as he normally wakes around 6am!
But he had been a bit quiet and sleepy at nursery and was running a temperature so they gave him some calpol and he brightened up after that. He ate well though, just was a little quiet - they put him down twice on a sleeping mat and he settled himself to sleep Wish he do it for me
He has been stirring this evening as well.

cazzybabs · 18/02/2009 09:53

evie has her MMR today....she is being really clingy at the moment too...maybe she knows something is afoot

dundeemarmalade · 18/02/2009 11:10

hello everybody,
the rising tide of snot, teething drool (3 molars, all incisors), recurrent bugs (me and the little one) and going back to work has meant no mumsnet for months and months. miss you guys a lot at the moment, so will make an effort to keep in touch a bit more.

have just scanned msgs v briefly to catch up.
skid congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!! also at not bf anymore -stopped at 10 months when i got d&v for 8th time this year, in hope that stopping bf would give me a bit more resilience but hasn't made any difference and i've still gone down with sore throat/fever/aches every 3 weeks. have seriously wondered about starting again, especially as dd is me interested than ever in my boobs and pats them frequently, saying 'boo boo'. next time i'll be bf-ing until they're begging me to stop!
awen if you see that woman that said 'bitty' to you, please stab her in the eye with something pointy for me. honestly, what do people thing breasts are for?

skidaddle · 18/02/2009 16:33

hi dundee - good to hear from you and thanks for the congrats. yes, think the bugs are just part of having a young child - I think I have an ear infection this week - I thought only babies got ear infections!

clairey - nightmare with feeding - don't know what to suggest - is it making you think about giving up? - although I suppose that would mean even more screaming

clara - glad you've made a decision and I'm sure the mysterious carribean island will be much easier than pakistan. It will just be a short period of nightmareness and then I'm sure you will love it

Milo is still suffering after his MMR nearly 2 weeks ago - temperature, nappy rash, upset tummy, cold, cough and oozing eyes - no idea if it is due to the MMR or somthing totally unrelated but poor little thing is not well at all

eek feel like I'm going to be caught MNetting and not impress my new colleagues. Better sneak off before it's too late...

hello everyone else

claireybeemine · 18/02/2009 16:43

Hi Dundee, good to see you back
We are also drowing in a flood of snot at the moment, still, is better than the flood of vomit I had to contend with last week!

Skid I am hoping that the feeding has been ds attempting to fight off these bugs (he has only got ill today, dd has had it a while and I had nausea though no actual sick last week)and he will settle down again once better. If not...who knows! Hope Milo feels better soon too.

BT are you still getting lots of sleep? DS only woke once last night but just wouldn't settle afterwards so had him in bed with us from 1am, gave him a bit of medised to help him breathe and he conked out so not too bad. Am at Daniel settling himself on a sleeping mat too though my ex neighbours baby just used to go and lie on the floor when he got tired and go to sleep!

claireybeemine · 18/02/2009 16:45

What is a sleep mat anyway??? just realised I am envisioning a gym mat type thing and might have completely the wrong end of the stick!

BouncingTurtle · 18/02/2009 17:14

Clairey - I'm not sure, think it is just what you described! They have a cosy corner with lots of cushions and soft toys but the window and some of the babies like to sleep there, have sometimes come to collect ds to see one baby or another zonked out there!

Dundee - lovely to hear from you, sorry about all the bugs though! I agree with clairee think it is part and parcel of being a mummy!

Skid - are you settling in okay in your new home? Are you liking your colleagues?

cazzybabs · 18/02/2009 18:29

humm.. we didn't have Evie's MMR as she had missed her 3rd set of what ever they have at 4 months.....god I am a bad mother . Anwyay she seems fine and cried a little but waved and said bye bye to the nurse

Arcadie · 18/02/2009 20:12

I'm up to my eyes in sorting out ALL the kids clothes / toys and everything they've ever owned to sell at NCT next week. A little sad that some of the things I remember getting for DS (now 3) as an expectant happy tubby Mum-to-be are no longer going to be in my house..... Just makes me remember the total all-consuming excitment of waiting for our lives to go from couple to family. Ah nuts. Hope we get a wodge load of cash for them that I can spend on beer.

Cazzybabs Too cute at saying bye bye to the nurse! And you are NOT a bad mother. Have they told you what you have to do next? Is it just a case of book an appointment for the 3rd jab she should have had or is it more complicated?

BT I want a cosy corner sleeping mat with cushions near the window. Not for the kids mind....

Clairebee We seem to have gone from stream of snot to 1 day clear to stream of snot again. I am getting fed up of wrestling DD to the floor to pick dried snot off her face.

Hi Skid I don't feel slighted at all that I only got a "Hello to everyone else." So sorry that Milo's going through it with the MMR. It is supposed to only kick in after 10 days so it does sound like that's the problem.

And hey to you DundeeMarmalade S'been a while. Don't say you've got a real life outside of this place....

BouncingTurtle · 18/02/2009 21:25

The Home Visitor at my bfing group said they could experience side effects for up to 4 weeks afterwards
Ds definitely very grouchy today, really whiny.

mememummy · 18/02/2009 23:47

hello every1 remember me?? i've been back at uni and not really had time for anythin but bear essentials lol, u should see the hairyness of my legs my dd bryony is a right little monkey will read thru and catch up in a bit!!!

skidaddle · 19/02/2009 18:58

Hi meme, good to hear from you and v. impressed that you have time and inclination for studying. Hope you're enjoying it all

Arcadie - I get so overly emotional about getting rid of old baby clothes too - well I actually I never do it but even lending them to someone or thinking about it can make me blub, so I am impressed at your willpower

4 weeks BT? Oh God I can't bear it. Settling in very well thanks, colleagues are lovely, as is Oxford. They have sleep mats at our nursery too - I would prefer him to sleep in a cot though - don't know why - just seems a bit cosier.

clairey at your neighbour's baby! I want one of those!!! Any improvement on the BF front? I find Milo has no feeds one day (which makes me think I'll stop now) and then the next day he wants nothing but - as you say I'm sure it is related to how ill/tired/grumpy they are feeling

Got my viva on Tuesday, very nervous. Keep finding papers that I should have read and hearing horror stories, eeeeekkkkk

Oh and my best friend is 42 weeks preg today and being induced right now, cross your fingers for her and send her some good labour vibes. Who has been induced before? It doesn't have to be awful, does it?

BouncingTurtle · 19/02/2009 19:41

Hello Meme!! Glad to hear from you. What are you studying?

Skid - good luck with the viva! Don't be too ds is a crap sleeper as well!

mememummy · 19/02/2009 20:34
