hello all
doc has signed me off work this week with viral respiratory infection, and DS and i both have conjunctivitis. We look like a right pair!
anyway, i just stopped by to send positive vibes to crotchet for a viral rash and not anything worse....

J2O · 07/01/2009 14:39

oh Strawberry-ppor you
Crochet-hows things?

alicet · 07/01/2009 15:13

Just a quickie as I can hear Adam waking...

Crochet hope m is OK and its nothing serious... if it helps babies can get rashes at the drop of a hat so chances are its just some sort of virus. fingers crossed...

Strawberry hope you're all better soon too...

Dal nto surprised you were scared with what happened to your bro - glad everything turned out ok...

Hello and lots of love to everyone else - will try and get back on later. Was on call on Sun and yesterday and had pilates on monday and again tonight so been a little busy! Will try and get back on properly soon...

Oh and our big chat about Adam wasn't necessary in the end as he slept all night for the last 3 nights (OK this am was awake at 5am although he did go hback at 6am until 7.30) and we haven't had anymore of the hprrendous screaming and not settling... He is a lot happier too!

Byeeee - see you later xxx

Hello everyone and Happy New Year!

I haven't been on Mumsnet for months!! I decided to have a little wander through the pages recently and came to see if there was still an Oct 2007 Post Natal thread going!

Haven't read through any of the posts but I hope that you and your little ones are all doing really well and that 2009 will be a fab year for everyone.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/01/2009 17:39

OK Hands up who sent the viral thingy to me??? my glands are up, burning up, dizzy, sore throat, lathargic and aching! Dr just told me it should be ok by friday but gave me appt just in case!

Ended up having a stroppy receptionist being rude to me as i would not giver her details of what was wrong with me, i asked if she was rude to all patients and she replied "no only you because i don't like you" FFS

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 07/01/2009 17:48

Well dh's op is now scheduled for next Monday. Fingers crossed it goes ahead this time!

Muppet - wow, sounds like you coped really well with Henry's choking - I've been on a first aid course but I'm still not sure I would have been that calm. Hope you have settled back into your routine ok.

J2O - hope you and the girls are feeling better. No suggestions on Liverpool I'm afraid - have you checked for Travel Lodges or that sort of hotel?

LLL - lol at crap all over the landing Sounds like my attempts to tidy up.

Crochet - fingers crossed for you hun - hope it is just a viral infection.

Strawberry - hope you are feeling better.

Alice - so glad Adam is happier and sleeping so much better.

Polar - nice to hear from you - hope everything is good with you and your lo.

muppetgirl · 07/01/2009 18:22

Hi all xxx

WWAJC - Am hoping dh's op goes ahead!

Alice - Glad the 'talk' wasn't necessary adn even more happier for you that Adam slept!

Well, I am calmer here in muppetland as Ollie went back to school and I managed to tidy the house so it looks a lot better than it did yesterday. Henry has been on the move and found the telly and the fridge with all the fridge magnets. He also found the oven whilst I was cooking and when I moved him away and said 'NO, hot!' as I used to with Ollie he just laughed and shuffled back to it. He is so different to Ollie you wouldn't believe...Going to have to get plug socket covers as he loves plug sockets (ollie never did) need to get a stair gate for the middle floor (never had to with Ollie as 1, we were in rented and would have had to drill the stairgate to fit the odd, old staircase and 2, he learned how to go up the staircase from around 12-18 months and he was always steady and he actually never fell!) He is still very left handed so I think it's a definite that he's a lefty -anyone else have a lo with a definite 'hand'?

deckthehallswithINZIsholly · 07/01/2009 20:06

sorry have not read anything.........Just wanted you to know I am still around.......sleep deprived.....tearing my hair out Jane has reverted back to screaming blue murder when she goes down.....screaming every hour through the night......NOT LETTING ME SLEEP....aaaaghh!! I am at a loss as to why she always goes down no problem...she is teething but that isnt making her have a fit when I try to put her in her cot I dont know WTF is going on ......SO VERY VERY VERY tired. Very little sleep in a week [snore!!] will get on soon and attempt a cath up, going to wolf my dinner down because she is probably about to wake

Inzi this is what Adam was like recently and it's horrible isn't it especially when they have always been so easy to settle.

Dh spent an hour cuddling him to try and get him to settle from 3-4am one night at the weekend and then eventually did controlled crying as he was at his wits end and didn't know what to do. It took 20 mins and he settled. I was really unhappy at the idea of going down this route and ending up with a stressed unhappy little boy who thought we were ignoring him but even in a book I have where the authors are totally against cc they admit that a few nights of this is unlikely to do any long term harm. We had a long discussion about what we would do the night after and basically I said I would try and do the same but wasn't sure I would be able to do it if he was really distressed. Thankfully he slept through then and has been much more settled since.

Now I have no idea if it was the 20 mins of cc that did the trick or that there was something that was upsetting him that we never got to the bottom of before it settled but if you are at the end of your tether and think you could cope with it it may be worth a try. Not sure I would have been able to cope with it if it had been me rather than dh doing it though...

Sorry thats a lot of waffle and probably not very helpful!

WWAJC glad to hear that dh has a new op date - I will keep my fingers crossed! If you get your op cancelled you have to get it done within a certain time scale and everyone is very big on targets now (sorry don't know what the time is though but I think less than a month) so fingers crossed it will happen soon even if Monday doesn't pan out...

Muppet I know just what you mean about them being so different! Adam is just so so determined - if he wants something you just can't distract him - he looks at you like 'what are you on about - I told you I wanted THAT, and THAT is what I want not that other crap you're trying to palm me off with!!!!' Sam by contrast was pretty easy going and chilled!

Polar lovely to hear from you - hope you and Zoe are well.

LES hope you're feeling better soon...

The rest of you lovely ladies hope all is going OK! Nothing exciting to report from me except as I wrote that I just realised that I don't know if I have told you that Adam can walk properly now?! I think I told you that he started to take a few lurchy steps at the end of Nov / beginning of Dec but over Christmas he started to get much more stable and now you can't stop him! He still reverts to crawling sometimes but mostly walks. One of his fave things now is 'war war!' (walk walk) then reaching for your hand to go walking. he is very cute! Also he pulls himself up on the back of Sam's top and then charges around clutching on to the back of Sam, cue much hysteria from them both! Its lovely to see...

Polar! Fab to see you. Hope 2009 (and the terrible 2's)is a wonderful one for you too.

Alice;I'm also glad the talk was unnecessary and that Adam is back to being his usual sunny self.

Inzi;(((hugs))) wish I could help.... Is she afraid of the dark as Anya used to be? or is there a toy/picture there that she has taken adislike to?..I'm probably barking up the totally wrong tree... I hope, like alice & adam, you & jane find a solution soon.

Muppet; lol at Henry! Welcome to my world of saftey catches and socket covers and trying (and failing miserably) to stay one step ahead of the infant(evil)I am assured that a greater percentage of us lefties have higher IQs [smirking emoticon]there has been no research into whether it makes us naughtier however Alex is still being quite ambidexterous, leaning more to the right but quite happy using his left too

I'm off to bed now...only got Alex off 30 mins ago he has another cold and sporadic high temperature wants to bf continually and really isnt enjoying me going back to teaching and not being at his beck and call all day...needless to say I'm feeling somewhat wrung out...sorry if I've missed anyone...night all

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/01/2009 07:52

Hi Ladies,

wonder if you could give me your opinions on this

have a look

LisaLessLumpy · 08/01/2009 08:42

muppet - Sam was showing leftie tendencies up to the age of two, he is now mostly right handed. Ben is mainly right handed I think, but uses his spoon to eat in his left hand but that is probably because I tend to sit on his left

Ben is also much more wilful than Sam, sounds like the second ones all seem the same. He is also very determined and just gives me a really cheeky smile when I tell him no. I have started using a naughty spot, and I actually think he is starting to understand that it is not a good place to be. He actually stayed there yesterday whilst previously he would keep getting up and laughing thinking it was a game. 15 mins of me keep putting him back with a cross voice must have worked

WWAJC - Hope hubby gets his OP.

Gotta run, both boys in nursery today and I am getting my haircut first thing, then tidying the house up for the rest of the day. Try and get rid of the clutter :-)

Have a good day everyone

muppetgirl · 08/01/2009 13:07

Hi all

LLL - yep that sounds a bit like Henry...he just laughs when I tell him off or just shakes his head in a'no' kind of way as if to let me he understands but he's not taking me particularly seriously!

Alice - glad things are getting better re the sleep. Whenever dh and I tried anything to do with slepp we always said we'd give it 3 days to see what happened. I think this helped as we knew there was an agreed end but we weren't giving i at the first hurdle as it were. We started with Henry in that he would 'shout' in his cot (just does that in the car now...) and I would go to him whereas dh said that he wasn't crying just making noise so leave him...we did the same when other things came up. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't to be honets but at least there was an agreed time period.

Inzi - so sorry that Jane isn't sleeping. I bet you're a nice shade of grey....Maybe try the cc for the agreed time period dh and I did?

I have sanded down the bottom step of the stairs and stained it to see whether we like it or not as be have 28 stairs altogether and it took me 1 hr to properly sand down the top of one! It looks quite nice although I know stained wooden satirs don't really suit new houses it's just easier to keep clean with the boys and the dogs. We decided that it's either stain or paint in white gloss. Am thinking the gloss would be more in keeping with the moderness of the house. We also have had a pinter quote to white gloss the stairs and do the hall right to the top of the house so i think I'll let him do it as there is no ventilation on our stairs and I would be high as a kite whilst prgt so not good.

Floria - Not sure about Henry's 'hand' though still very left handed. Never really noticed Ollie doing anything other than use his right. We have lots of lefty's in our family (my 2 brothers and mother + sil) so we're fine with him maybe needing help with writing. Am getting dh to babyproof the house at the weekend. Henry has found the extension socket's underneath the tely and was happy switching the telly on and off yesterday It kind of went -Telly on (giggle, giggle) telly off (giggle, giggle)

Am loving the differences especially Ollie's latest 'Mummy I'm not arguing with you (after I said stop arguing with me) I'm telling you I think you're wrong.' If he lives to 5 it will be a miracle

Stefka · 08/01/2009 16:12

Sorry not much from me - also having sleep probs with Dareh so being going to bed when he naps to cope. Will try and catch up properly with everyone later.

Any news from Crochet?

J2O · 08/01/2009 18:54

another leftie here (me not lo ) FT-I've heard that we have a lower life expectancy than righties Am trying to get the girls to bed, feel very tired today, my friend came for tea, and i just fell asleep while we where watching tv!

CrochetDiva · 08/01/2009 20:47

Hellllloooooooo!

Sorry to worry y'all ...

Mairwen still has a rash - back to doc tomorrow, to see what it is. It's not like any rash I've seen before: my 2 both get rashes every time they're ill - and this is like nothing I've seen before!

She's more or less ok in herself though - just a bit more cwtchy than usual ...

She's not sleeping terribly well at the mo' - so am off to bed now - hope to catch up with you all at the weekend.

p.s. hiya polar - lovely to see you again!

p.p.s. J & I went for the counselling appointment for the snip on Monday - he's booked in for 27th Jan ... was at how quickly they do it!

HI all

Alicet - thanks for the good advice. I am OK with CC if I know she is just moaning to get up, but this is full on screaming - heartbreaking screaming I ended up with her in with me again last night and she moaned, groaned, tossed and turned all night (growing pains?) my eyes are haning out my head! I gave her 2 naps today instead of 1 and left her to cry each time, she only cried for a few minutes each time before sleeping. She only cried for about 10seconds tonight and nothing since, I hope its coming to an end now.

floria, the first night this started, she was screaming and when I went in her room she was pointing at her dressing gown hanging on the back of her door and repeating "whats that" over and over, so I think it has spooked her a bit

My grandad was rushed to hospital today after collapsing struggling to breath, they are drainign fluid from his lungs and scanning his legs for clots tomorrow. My mum called earlier and they have put him on oxygen to help him breath.....please send positive vibes this way for him.

Sorry such another selfish post, going to bed as I am mentally and physically shattered.

crochet - snap, jane has a rash (AGAIN!!) she keeps getting it and the doctor always says it could be viral/teething/allergy. It seems to coincide with her no - sleeping though

muppetgirl · 09/01/2009 11:12

Inzi you poor poor things Definately sending your Grandad get well vibes. Poor you and Jane as it sounds like she's really unhappy too xxx

Crochet - am thinking of you today at the Drs. AM hoping it is just another rash xx
