does anyone know what they deal is with chicken pox and bfing, am thinking ds wont get it as im bfing, alot, but if he does will it count so he wont get it again or does he have to get it without me bfing and my antibodies

he has a spot by his ear that i am watching

dont know if i could do them both being ill

turtle23 · 21/11/2008 12:51

littleducks-Afraid you don't get immunity if you have it under 12 months. Not sure he'd get it too badly as you're BF and immune, though.

Ewe · 21/11/2008 16:49

Hi all,

Had a shocking day or two, Tilly went all funny yesterday morning, unresponsive, fever, shaking and trembling etc.

Was horrible, rushed her straight to A&E and have only just got home and we're still waiting for blood tests. Doctors best guess is that it is viral and potentially contagious so those who I saw yesterday, just wanted to give you a heads up to be extra vigilant as it was terrifying. Will be keeping my fingers crossed that none of the babies catch it.

Sorry to hear P is ill too turtle, ear infections are evil so he is obviously a tough cookie, I had one a while ago and constantly wept like a baby.

Chicken pox, eurrrghh, not looking forward to that at all. I've had enough illness over the last few months, please whoever is up there, I need a bloody break!

CricketsMum · 21/11/2008 18:18

Ewe & LD - poor both of you!! Not a good day for healthy little ones. Hope they both recover soon!

JFly · 21/11/2008 18:49

Jiminy Christmas! I joked on Turtle's FB that there must have been some super bug at Starbucks, but now it looks like it's no joke! Poor things. Maybe we should tell them to decontaminate the place. Anyone else ill?

G didn't spend much time on the floor as he doesn't crawl, etc, so maybe we'll escape it. How awful. Hope you guys and LOs feel better soon. Note to self: take Dettol with me wherever I go!

littleducks · 21/11/2008 18:57

oh dear sounds like everyone is ill, must have been terrifying Ewe and hope your little man is back on form soon turtle

turtle23 · 22/11/2008 06:47

ugh. Antibiotics making for naaaaaaaaaasty nappies. Have been changing nappies for 19 years and this morning was the first one that made me gag. Bleh.

merryberry · 22/11/2008 09:29

oh lord the illnessess. so sorry to hear this everyone. get well soon

i have interenet and sunshine, so my cup runneth over tho i do wish the lads would get on out the house now i've been on duty since 5am, it 930 and they're still under foot and i have work to do up here. GO OUT!

evie2000 · 22/11/2008 09:59

sorry to hear about the illness and pox - really bad luck and sending you al get well soon vibes.

On the finger food subject...sorry but any good ideas - eggy bread good although hard to master the art if you're my ds. I need some other ideas! is there such thing as a receipe book for such things? easy to do!

merryberry · 22/11/2008 11:06

have some ideas for you and no time today to post, will come back i hope tomorrow and do the honours! fave yesterday evening was a simple wholemeal sandwich with lentil curry before the heavy spices were added stached in the middle. every time he put it down, i loaded more on. very much needed as the little sod angel again refusing spoons in mouth

wearehipsandmakers · 22/11/2008 14:42

at the risk of sounding a little too yummy mummy- I made mini quiches for DD today (only because I had left over pastry) chopped tomato, little bit of cheese and eggy stuff in mini muffin tin. Seemed to work really well. Also pumpkin scones. Also any vegetables turned into little sort of omelette things with potato. I'm thinking fishcakes might be quite good as well but I haven't tried it.
I never had this problem with DS- his aprroach to food was very much baby bird- sat there with his mouth open and it was just a question of shovelling it down fast enough but DD seemed insistant on feeding herself from day 1. I am so tired of mopping kitchen floor.

PurlyQueen · 22/11/2008 23:56

oh dear - sorry to hear about the Starbucks lurgy .
Matthew is OK - touch wood. We went to a baby disco this afternoon. I was glad to get out of the house and go dancing. Matthew loved the flashing lights and the balloons the most

fitnfortyone · 23/11/2008 20:27

How are all the sick Lo's today? Hope you have a healthier week ahead {{{hugs}}}

littleducks · 23/11/2008 20:42

can i come round to wearehipsandmakers for tea?

am bearing up with the cp, dd is grumpy guts though

ds has a cold but cant really compete with full blown cp

what sizes nappies are babies in?
ds is in sizee 4 now, just finished first packet so for two weeks or so which i cant believe as dd(2.6) wears size 5 at night

skidoodle · 23/11/2008 21:01

healthy wishes for all sick babies

ewe that sounds terrifying, you poor thing, and poor DD too

littleducks DD has been wearing size 4 nappies for ages and she's not really that big. Her 4 month old cousin is around the same size. Perhaps she just has a big bottom.

fitnfortyone · 23/11/2008 21:34

E's been in size 4 for a good while, but it does cover a very large poundage range...i put him in 4's as soon as he got to the suggested weight and I'd used up the small remaining stock of 3's.

Now having the dilemma of whether to buy "active fit" or "stay dry" or both! The marketing doesn't indicate mix n match

Had a nice day today, starting with underwater photo shoot with LO (luckily just him, wouldn't want my childbearing (tm) hips in it), then popped over to local outlet mall for lunch and window shopping .Came away with bargain couple of pairs of baby trous and socks from Baby Gap, and a new swimsuit for myself for a massive £6 so had no worries about returning the £18 one which didn't fit to Tesco

turtle23 · 24/11/2008 04:54

I want to cy. Am up again. P's ear is bit better but we have been up most of night comfort sucking due to...yes...another tooth. Is he the only one with 6? I need a break.

turtle23 · 24/11/2008 04:55

cry.

littleducks · 24/11/2008 08:09

TURTLE, honestly it will be ok, i know the pain (i went to bed at 9 but couldnt sleep only to be up at 12,2,4,6 and up for the day at 6.50 and last night wasnt that bad as it was only ds up normally dd gets up too) so pls dont think im unsympathetic but the earlier its over the easier it will be long term, dd didnt have 6 teeth till about 18 months and it affected her sleep much more long term as she got into the habit of night waking which tbh she still hasnt shaken, so if it helps think of how much easier it will to get hime in good sleep habits long term (and if it doesnt just tell me to sod off and scroll dowm )

he doesnt take a dummy does he? would it be worth trting one of those teething things that look like a dummy

I didnt get any baby socks from gap last time round, i think dd was mostly in tights but dh was a bit when i suggested shorts and tights for ds so i bought some baby gap socks and they are def the best, had some pumpkin patch ones which looked the same but fell off

glad to here that ds hasnt got an unusually large bottom! it just amazes me how fast we moved through the different sized nappies, and i miss the days of cheap size 1 nappies!

turtle23 · 24/11/2008 09:05

Will any of you mind if I'm a bit smug in a year's time, then? Am imagining that that will be when he starts sleeping.

turtle23 · 24/11/2008 12:16

Must-play game of the day: Pull yourself up onto sofa, walk exactly 6 steps along. Make sure you have an audience, cautiously let go and see how long you can stand, then PLONK sit on the floor and clap and giggle. Repeat 678 times until you fall asleep standing up with head on sofa.

littleducks · 24/11/2008 12:56

turtle i know the sleep thing is (understandably) driving you bonkers but he is truely amazing, that sounds so cute....you do realise he is incredibly clever dont you

ds isnt even crawling here but he has no need/desire with dd to 'wait upon' him

JFly · 24/11/2008 14:24

Bless him! I have a picture of my niece asleep with head on sofa while mid-escape from her travel cot. They are determined little beasts.

merryberry · 24/11/2008 14:34

gg does that magic blink and miss it thing where i put him down, rummage around doing stuff, look at hime and he's half a foot from where i left him and facing t'other way.

if i plonk him and watch, he just sits there grinning at me.

covert surveillance needed.

turtle23 · 24/11/2008 15:20

The powers that be just let me have a 2 hour nap with a warm baby snuggled at my side. I can actually see straight! Good news is that he had a rice cake while waiting for terribly slow mummy to give him his food(he would eatit scalding hot if i let him)and suddenly realised that it was pink...blood everywhere, but tooth 5 properly through and number 6 looks like it wont hurt as much.(There is a hole around number 5, no wonder it was so bad.) Maybe, just maybe...with antibiotics, motrin(canadian nurofen, works better for some reason) and a gin and tonic for mummy before feeding tonight...we may be getting some sleep tonight at loooooooooong last. Wishing everyone happy happy thoughts.
Next time he falls asleep with head on sofa must grab camera before worrying he will fall. He lasted 2 minutes like that!
