Oh Turtle. You poor thing. I don't know what to say except I understand not having any help. That can be so isolating, on top of all the lack of sleep, colds and teeth. Can you get out today? Will he sleep in his pushchair? G doesn't really like to nap in his, but even if he's awake the entire time, at least you're not sat at home wondering what to do next to keep yourself sane. I know the weather is crap and you're exhausted, but maybe it would still help to get out and about.

I went to that Westfield shopping centre on Saturday. It's so massive, you could easily spend a couple days in there. Maybe try something like that (although I know you don't like crowds). Or go to the cinema? Any baby showings today? Soft play? Gymboree? I know he's not well, but even when G is screaming with his teeth, sometimes he can be distracted with play.

turtle23 · 18/11/2008 08:35

Thanks J. P is really too unwell for all that. He can't breathe at all. Am working on something to do that wont be too much for him.

CricketsMum · 18/11/2008 08:50

ff - think the Christmas Carol idea is a lovely one. Far better than the bubbles and rattley shaker things that my tired brain had come up with for LO! Also think your Christmas Dec day sounds fab... we don't put up any decorations until christmas eve and will be away this year so won't have any around the house :-( (although suspect not having a tree with lots of things that LO will try to pull up on is probably the safest idea going!)

Turtle - sending lots of sympathy your way. i've been there too (on the tiredness, fortunately C hasn't had a bad cold for months - that's jinxed me hasn't it?). All I can say is get through the day an hour at a time. & remember... this too shall pass.

CricketsMum · 18/11/2008 08:57

just looking at everyone on the meetup event on FB - how do you all know who's who??

noolia · 18/11/2008 09:10

Turtle, you poor thing. I don't know what to say really. How long has he had his cold? If it's been a really long one maybe see GP? Can you cosy down with tv and just try and have a snuggly sofa day? I always find a walk outside makes me feel loads better with a cold, so I guess the same is true for babies. And things like carvol in bowl of hot water might help him.

JFly · 18/11/2008 09:29

Doesn't medised still exist? Will your GP give you something for P? Not sure what phenergan is (decongestant??) but surely there is something for babies. I think it's awful they (and we!!) just have to suffer with rotten colds. So sorry he's not well enough to go out, poor monkey!

Do saline drops help his congested nose? I had to give G them all the time a month ago with his cold+teething snottiness. He hated it, but I think it helped, and also have one of those snot suckers, which again he hates but it's quite effective. So hard to keep up with all the snot, though!

HQ - thanks! Am very jealous of your trip to Egypt. Especially looking out the window this morning. Have a wonderful time.

MarchNowFebMum · 18/11/2008 09:53

turtle, karvol gets my vote and taking him outside. he's unlikely to get sicker and you adn he would benefit from the fresh air and break from the house.

someone mentioned soft plays, i am oblivious as to these things - how does one find them?

i sadly won't be at meet up tomorrow, we have our baby music class. have fun and someone take a pic!

10 seconds free.....and I'm on MN? P's room stinks of eucalyptus/olbas/etc. His cot is raised. He has had drops(don't go in as too full of goo) and the aspirator. He has had medised(shhh, don't tell!), he has had nurofen. We have sat together in the steamy bathroom. We went for a walk and he screamed blue murder. I am beginning to hallucinate. Have just treated myself for lunch and made a whole tray of roast potatoes.
Would you like to know what the maddest thing is? Just double-checked the calendar to work out when I'm ovulating. Think I may be barking.
Off to chemist when he wakes up (15 mins so far!) for snufflebabe and humidifier/vapouriser/whatever it's called. Broke mine from having it on for a week.

turtle23 · 18/11/2008 12:32

Oh, and did I say...there's another bloody tooth on the way! I suppose at least if he has all 20 by 9 months I may get some rest?

fitnfortyone · 18/11/2008 13:10

Turtle, can't begin to imagine how knackered you must be, you can't even go into work for a rest
What's P like with water or juice, will he take anything apart from milk? The milk will make the congestion a bit worse, but if he's can't drink properly maybe he's thirsty? My LO got through nearly all of a 500ml bottle of juice last week in one day with his cold, and at least that stayed down when he was vomiting up the milk...think it helped his cough too.

And yes, on the bright side, you'll get all the teeth out of the way in one hit and sail through the next couple of years while everyone else experiences the backlog of pain. Friend of mine was really lucky to have her DD1 sleep through the night from birth, she started teething sometime after her first birthday and friend found that more of a shock to the system than if she'd started when still sleep deprived.

fitnfortyone · 18/11/2008 13:40

FF have added you on Fbook - didn't realise you were in Wales too! And the other marchmums on there, have put you all as admins so you should be able to create events, invite people etc...think that's prob why you couldn't do the event meet up for tomorrow before.

Wish I could meet you all sometime, but midweeks are useless - at some stage I could do Fridays as have every other one off, but need a bit of dosh built up first to afford a trip up to Lahndan.

Ewe · 18/11/2008 18:52

Hiya all!

I'm back, New York was amazing! Really enjoyed the break and feel like a different person now I am back

Is the meet up still happening tomorrow?

Sorry to hear you're having a shit time turtle, any chance of a night away in a hotel with GPs babysitting? Or a night/day away with a friend at a spa? DH will cope, just don't give him the choice not to!

FfreckleFface · 18/11/2008 19:52

Turtle, that sounds hideous. Bless him (and you also) - look on the bright side though. He will be smiling with a full mouth of teeth when my gummy little girl is keeping me up all night.

Thanks for the adds on FB - I have asked to join the Marchmums group too.

Gave little Ff corn on the cob today - she LOVED it, and it kept her occupied for half an hour. She was like a little greaseball though, all smeared in butter. Fab for sore gums.

JFly · 18/11/2008 19:58

Meet-up is still on. Have asked for a roll call so those not on FB can weigh in. Hope to see you guys there.

CricketsMum · 19/11/2008 06:57

not trying to knock my dh for effort but is it really too much to ask that if he decides to descale the kettle he finishes the job rather than leaving it full of vinegar so that when i get up with dd at 5am (after being up with her at least every hour during the night - i actually lost count of the number of times i had to get up!) i can make a cup of tea?

turtle23 · 19/11/2008 07:20

Am looking on the bright side this morning. DS slept from 7-7. He woke up a few times, before you shoot me, ut at least we have stopped the 4am "my teeth hurt" bit!
Snotty hacking P is v chirpy so we will come today if nobody minds. We will sit away from everyone!

turtle23 · 19/11/2008 07:22

CM-YANBU. please tell me you didn't find out the hard way? BTW am done being antisocial. Fancy coming round for a cup of non-vinegar tea?

JFly · 19/11/2008 08:41

Yay! Yes, turtle, please come! I don't want to be the only one! And just think, it's nice and sunny so that's got to make you feel better!

Ewe · 19/11/2008 09:07

I'm hoping to come providing I get this bit of work finished, so JFly and turtle are confirmed yes? Don't want to rock up on my own!

turtle23 · 19/11/2008 09:22

We are defo.

JFly · 19/11/2008 09:39

yep confirmed. G waking now so should be there on time.

merryberry · 19/11/2008 09:52

sorry not to see you there, i've got a noon school run to do.

merryberry · 19/11/2008 14:26

slowly catching up..xmas pressies.

hawaiian shirts

One XL, one 3-5 years, one 1-2 years.

because i can't think of anything sensible. otherwise gg is getting pressies from everyone briefed: '3 times larger than he is please'

he just loves big things to play with. ds1 is getting an insane amount of goodies i think. games, his much asked for wall-e dvd, and even more asked for...an umbrella and a hairbrush.

timmyinatizzy · 19/11/2008 16:44

After successfully finding you at Starbucks today thought I'd better say hello on here too. So hello !

Its been a manic 8 months since the arrival of Luke, the time has flown by. It was lovely to see everyone again and meet the babies this time. JFly, G has gorgeous eyes. Did you manage to get a picture of them all in the end? Turtle/Ewe, I think if Luke got together with P and T they could get into serious mischief!!!

skidoodle · 19/11/2008 20:00

Hello everyone, I've been following you all assiduously but not managed to post due to most of my lurking taking place on an iPod while I feed DD.

Can we see a picture of the marchmums & babies from today so we can pretend we were there?

merryberry your DS1 sounds brilliant - I can just imagine you having to wait for him to finish doing his hair in the morning once he has that brush. At least the rain won't ruin his 'do

Also, I need to thank you for the best suggestion ever. Do you remember suggesting eating the skin off an apple and then giving it to DD? Well she's mad for the apples now! You have to try and hide your face while you're doing the preparatory eating, because once she sees the apple she just goes mental until you give it to her.

In the last fortnight she has done so many new things: she started sitting up, she started crawling (well dragging herself along more like) forward, she finally started her bs and ms (as in babababa and mamamamama) after months of dadas, gagas and even daddle daddle daddles.

Then yesterday she did the most amazing things - she has learnt to do bualadh bos(Irish for clap hands)! If you say "bualadh bos" she puts her hands together It's a whole new level of communication. I am ridiculously proud. I think she might even have a career ahead of her as a professional applauder maybe
