skidoodle LOL at the career choices

Wish I lived nearer so I could get to the meet ups, it would be lovely to see the babbies!

Vomiting appears to have halted here for a bit (touch wood) - although the dog has realised it's a good attention grabber as he vommed over E's playmat then the good rug 2 nights in a row.I really can't be arsed cleaning the rug properly yet so it's been hosed down and is drying out for a bit until I attack it with some cleaner.

On the development front, the commando boy is getting stronger at dragging himself along interspersed with butterfly stroke! He can also pull himself up from sitting if we hold his hands...and hold himself up in the swimming pool without going underwater if he's paying enough attention! DH still waiting for a dada but mama is much more fun We're also getting a demented bee impersonation as he learns to do funny things with his throat and lips. Love the faces he pulls now he has teeth, keeps jutting his jaw out in a weird pout!

REverting to the dreamfeed has worked last 2 nights, sleeping from 11 through to 6.30 ish.

littleducks · 19/11/2008 22:57

I had a terribly depressing week last week, but it has been better this week, have been getting up and everyone dressed before going downstairs for breakfast which has really helped in getting on with the day, but e do have to really pile on the bibs and aprons as porridge is very messy with babies and toddlers.

I am going to book and take my theory and practical driving tests as i am pissed off with bus drivers being rude/unhelpful and sometimees plain mean just because im trying to juggle kids. will have to carbon offset or something but it just isnt worth the stress anymore

had a terrible sick feeling and funny taste in my mouth today so am (bizarrely) hoping to get ill as i so do not want to be pregnant atm

just sucessfully placed internet grocery order after hours of faffing and losing internet connection, i dont think it saves any actual time but does allow me to show while kids are asleep, so am desperately hoping there will be no dodgy substitions

wish i could have been to meet up and would love to see baby pictures too!

merryberry · 20/11/2008 09:18

sorry to hear about last week littleducks. i'm getting a bit stale (terribly brit understatement there) with the feeding/laundry/cleaning and especially playing endlessness. Need a fillip. Need some fun. Need someone else to come and join in for a while! at least we are past the looong days of gg vomming fn41 and broken nights turtle. wishing you both speedy recoveries for the babes/dog.

glad to be back online. tis nice, but now opens me up to actually meeting various deadlines...am a bit weary. also did my internet shop after a week of RL shopping (bought too much food, wasted some, spent a fortune). internet certainly makes me more efficient on that front. apart from COMPLETELY forgetting to buy formula for next week. minor detail. ho hum.

skidoodle ds1 is really getting into the xmas thing. i am saving up so many little asks of his for the big day. i plan to do silly things like save their bath toy present for the evening, and go to put them in the bath and lo! there is a pressie. i'm trying to pop a bath vid on FB, but it's taking forever so far.

GG's development is so diff here from ds1. I painstakingly taught ds1 baby sign. He never used it. Just waited to talk a bit early. GG on the other hand can do the sign for milk already leading to a farce the last couple of days where i thought he was just signing it for the joy of it, then discovered, no, actually, he was on the eat side of a growth spurt and needed to sink a bottle every 2 hours (!) plus eat himself senseless. had a decent night's sleep last night, and seems to have calmed down on the food front today.

merryberry · 20/11/2008 09:22

gave up on too big vid and have put up photo instead

fitnfortyone · 20/11/2008 09:24

when do they have growth spurts now on average? Friend says she can tell as one day her DD has a potbelly, a day or so later it's flat again and a centimetre or so has sprouted in DD's legs, but with LO he seems to constantly go from pot to flat!

turtle come on here and have a rant sounds like you need to again - here's some virtual tea and toast to keep you going x

wearehipsandmakers · 20/11/2008 09:27

Everything seems to have calmed down here on the colds etc. .. for now...
DD has big bluish lumps on her top gums tho' as yet remains resolutely toothless. Her new trick is to bend down and tilt her head to side in the manner of a talk show host showing empathy. It's very cute. And, little narcissist as she is, she has completely fallen in love with her own reflection, so now with the dark nights I just plonk her in front of the window and let her gurn away to her hearts content.

I say it very, very quietly so the gods of sleep deprivation won't hear me but we have had 3 nights of 7-7. We have a bottle of champagne in the fridge and when she has done a whole week of consecutive sleep thru's we're gonna drink it. .

And, and, (smug emoticon) I finished my christmas shopping yesterday. I even bought wrapping paper. I forgot the cellotape but that's not the point. Of course, all the people who are less organised than me will now pick it up for half the price but I do not need to go into town again until January. Hooray! I love the idea of buying A Christmas Carol as a christmas present- I thought about buying each years Booker winner so when they are 18 they have a collection of modern classics but DH pointed out that what they would probably have is a collection of books that have really dated.
His vote went for a collection of classic albums (orginal vinyl obviously)

merryberry · 20/11/2008 09:27

i don't know fn41. have been wondering myself. gg seems to have 2 a month at present.

have found an age appropriate new pic for the marchmums groups on FB. can I add it now we're all admins?

CricketsMum · 20/11/2008 09:37

for all those who have top teeth... how do you know when they are imminent?? Absolutely horrific week here - DD is so much pain and nothing is touching it. was up with her every 45 minutes last night - nothing settled her for longer so we both look like living dead today. but not sure what i am looking for as a sign that the damn things are nearly through... tips please? need something to look out for!

merryberry · 20/11/2008 09:58

gg's looked like this (not gg in this pic!) and when they started to break thru they actually looked like tiny jellyfish to begin with. misaligned for added joy, they slowly rotate into place. poor wee sods.

turtle23 · 20/11/2008 10:07

DS's teeth were big purple welts, then red, then bled, now are raw hideous open things with teeth sticking out. Look for the white of the tooth is all I can say.

FfreckleFface · 20/11/2008 11:12

Turtle, your FB status sounds like you had another rubbish night? If you like, I could lend you a dog...they're both excellent at quickly licking up baby vomit, and are happy to lie down with the baby and be cuddled, pulled, or have their ears used as teething chews. Also have an optional hoover function, for around the high chair after meals.

Little Ff has a third tooth coming through, top middle. Noticed last night when she was doing her Spiderman impression (arching backwards away from my breast, smiling upside down at her dad, doing an impression of a baby who is too wide awake for bedtime), and this morning she has tested it out with a bit of a chew on my nipple. But then she made up for it, by just falling asleep at the end of the feed and letting me snuggle her for a while before putting her to bed and coming downstairs to MN polish and hoover up.

turtle23 · 20/11/2008 12:45

Things just get better. P has ear infection and on ab's. He pulled his ear so much in last 24 hrs that external ear infected. Fever of 38.5, I feel rough as had nearly no sleep again. Had to change sheets and shower at 2am as P vommed everywhere. ugh.
Those of you who saw us yesterday...he is still acting the same. Would you have guessed he was ill? Feel v guilty for not taking him yesterday.

CricketsMum · 20/11/2008 12:55

thanks turtle and mb. turtle - poor P. if it's not one thing... thanks re offer of tea - not about much the next few weeks as am about to become an auntie so will be seeing my niece in N London as much as I can (and helping my sister out)... will let you know when we're back.

ff have just added you on FB... am v at how easily the top tooth came through - not my experience of teething AT ALL! my sister (about to have a baby) has a staffie cross - was slightly worried about baby/dog relations but will tell her the good points that you outlined!!

fitnfortyone · 20/11/2008 13:43

CM from what I've heard, staffies are apparently one of only 2 breeds recommended for families with babies. It's the owners who train them to be agressive who are the main problem...not sure about the cross though, prob depends what he/she's crossed with!

Mine isn't a baby friendly pooch as such, he tends to get out of the way when E approaches, or just ignores him in a sulky way. Am seriously thinking the dog vomited to get attention as he's seen so much given to the baby in same circumstances! He has also refused to hoover up either baby or own vom so what hope is there for him? Mind you, all the veg content of spilled baby food might be playing havoc with his insides!

CricketsMum · 20/11/2008 13:55

FN41 - we don't know what he is crossed with (he was a rescus dog)... best guess is a spaniel (yup, he's a strange looking beast!) Good news re staffies though. (what's the other breed out of interest?) Your dog sounds very like my cat - runs a MILE (at speed on tiled floor - that's good for a giggle!) every time LO approaches.

merryberry · 20/11/2008 14:31

mnfm msg on FB

she said, briefly

skidoodle · 20/11/2008 19:42

@ wearehipsandmakers having all the Christmas shopping done. In fact, that is so incomprehensible to me I struggle even to feel envy Good for you, must feel nice to not have that out of the way.

My family is very relaxed about present buying, but this will be my first year with DH's family who are OBSESSED by presents, so this will be my first year of ever really having to think about it more than I happen to fancy at the time.

You guys have some lovely ideas for presents - merryberry the bath time presents idea is fab and as for the Christmas Carol first edition, that is brilliant FfreckleFface.

I was thinking of getting DD a little piano as she (in common with pretty much all babies, I believe) is just crazy about music. One of her happiest ever days was when we went to see live Bluegrass one afternoon. She was so thrilled with it. I think she'd struggle with a fiddle, but I'm sure she could bash away at a piano. Does that sound a stupid idea?

A friend gave her a bell the other day and she's nuts about it. She's like a little leper ringing away. Making noises pleases her.

turtle sorry to hear about P's ear infection. Poor little fellow. I hope he feels better soon when the abs start to work.

littleducks grrr @ rude bus drivers. They do realise that their job is not just to drive the bus around don't they? It's amazing when they seem to be annoyed that people actually want to get on and off the bus. Glad you're having a better week this week. I'll cross my fingers for the weird taste to just go away with no repercussions of an unpleasant or joyous kind.

e14mum · 20/11/2008 19:59

skidoodle- dd loves playing with dh on the guitar- he gives her his mandolin and she strums that with him! Too cute!

ahh... Christmas shopping. We've ordered photo calendars for pretty much everyone in the families- dd's smiling face will be with them all year long! Have a few more bits and bobs to pick up, but we try to keep Christmas low-key so it's not too stressful.

merryberry · 20/11/2008 20:19

Off line again after brief flirt with broadband. At least now zen pm hacked off with bt they are fighting for us

fitnfortyone · 20/11/2008 21:25

Ok, I want my old hormones back now please. Recovering from childbirth 8 months on is no excuse for bursting into tears at Puff the Magic Dragon

FfreckleFface · 20/11/2008 22:49

Fingers crossed for the ab to work,Turtle.

Boydog isn't that fussed with little Ff - he'll sit and be pulled at for a few seconds, but then takes himself quietly off. Girldog, on the other hand, is her best friend, and follows her round everywhere, and sits with me on the sofa when I am feeding her. And they are Rottweilers, which I am guessing is not the second breed recommended for families with children.

fitnfortyone · 20/11/2008 23:47

www.dogbreedinfo.com/children.htm

Ratings from 1 (good) to 5 (uh-oh), staffies a 2 and rotties a 3 (if brought up with kids from puppyhood). No idea what my pooch is, he's just a cranky 10 1/2 yr old, possibly a bit of staffie, definitely terrier. With phobias on everything.

MB - if you get online again, give the picture a go on FB, assume you can add it?

Littleducks any progress on the sick feelings - done a test?

littleducks · 21/11/2008 03:05

AARGH!!!!! I think we have the pox!

DD had one spot yesterday, which i thought was just a spot and now hass 10-15 (hard to tell as she isnt really showing me) am urrently sitting downstairs with her eating choccie biscuits as i woke up an hour ago and she was hot and so i gave her calpol which she seems to have gone hyper on!

MIL is staying over before going on hajj on sat, EEK, she has had so many vaccine meningitis etc as they dont want anyone with aanything contagious there as so many people and crowded

But hopefully my feeling funny was just my body saying chicken pox virus, yuck, but immune to that and am glad i didnt come to meet up yesterday as i wouldnt be very popular now if i had!

littleducks · 21/11/2008 10:18

dd has chicken pox, its not fun

mil left early this am, dh gone to work so now i am stuck inside and im bored already (and a bit tired)

fitnfortyone · 21/11/2008 11:50

not fun, but at least they get it out of the way...I was kind of hoping LO's great uncle might still have been contagious with shingles when he visited last week, but now looks unlikely.
And got to be better than nits, those little blighters keep coming back!
