Knew I shouldn't have said it. Been up since 130.

ilovegreenbeans · 09/01/2009 10:31

turtle, fingers crossed it's just a blip. DD has off nights too- especially with teeth coming in. (Brushing here is sporadic, we try to do it before bed if we remember...)

Back for day 2 of work, but my mum has dd this week and next so I know it will be different when I have to take her to the childminder's. Work is ok, but I miss dd and just being with her

SexOnFire · 09/01/2009 14:47

Happy New Year everyone!! Bet you thought I'd buggered off to Moldies, eh? Well, I've just been really busy and until next week we're a one PC household. DP has been doing a lot of college work on the computer (how selfish can you get?) thereby denying me my all important mumsnetting.

Sorry to hear about the pox, the burglary, the going back to work, the dodgy plastic presents and the unreliable sleeping patterns. And if I've missed anything out, apologies.

I'm just about to do the school run but C is in baby jail watching ITNG so I'm making the most of the five minutes spare. Not much new here...we have one upper tooth just about coming through and C has also decided not to eat anything off a spoon any more. Which quite frankly is a bit of a pain as I can't just mush what we're having. So, a lot of pasta, roast veg, berries etc. I'm a bit worried that he's having too much salt in the toast he has but I'm trying to keep it to a minimum. Btw, Nigella's Potato Pancakes are wonderful but look away now if you don't want to know they contain smash .

Love to all and sending good vibes to everyone. x

Happy New Year, mums and babies!

Also sorry to hear about burglaries (scary!), pox, and no sleep. Gotta love the holidays, eh?

Back from the States and I think I've aged a few years. It was like "Trains, Planes and Automobiles" but less funny. We were delayed by a day on both flights and even sat on the tarmac for four hours before they decided to cancel our return flight. Fun stuff! So, I think we'll leave flying to the States for the less snowy months.

Our trip was alternately boring, eventful and relaxing, so a mixed bag really. It was a shame we never got to do our Christmas in Whistler (damn snow, again) but hopefully will get some skiing in this year.

G did really well with flying and jet lag, so he gets full marks. At least one of us had a sense of humour! Poor chap is a bit tired, now, though. Will catch up more later. Must go get him up from his nap!

HolidaysQueen · 09/01/2009 20:24

Anyone have any advice on weaning a baby onto formula when said baby now refuses a bottle after taking one for 8 months, and will drink water from a cup but not formula? Not really getting anywhere with my postings in the Breast & Bottle Feeding section and getting a bit desperate

spugs · 09/01/2009 21:26

hiya, i havent been on here for ages and loads of people have changed there names so i havent got a clue who anyone is!!!!! i havent read through yet but ill have ago later.
do we have our first pregnant march 08 mum yet????
my little izzy is now huge, cruising round furniture, waving, clapping, biting people etc. hope everyones well xx

spugs · 09/01/2009 22:04

Right have had a quick read - forgot to say happy christmas and new year
Hope everyones babies are feeling better, weve all been healthy amazingly and im still waiting for the chicken pox to hit. DD1 is nearly 8 and its still not put in an appearence.
I dont give izzy water just milk, she sometimes drinks a bit of juice out of dd2s cup but to be honest i never even thought about giving her water at meal times. She can eat for england and stuffs down what ever were having. Shes just over 20lbs now so its working, i might give her a cup tomorrow with lunch and see if shell have it.
its good to see im not the only one who doesnt have a baby who sleeps through, she still wakes up for a bottle a about 1am ish and sometimes comes in bed with us. my 2 yr old also comes in so it gets a bit packed in there sometimes. my theory is she'll grow out of it at somepoint but the HV keeps telling me to leave her to scream which i feel really cruel doing.
ive gone back to work part time and izzy occassionally goes to nursery, it was so much easier then when i went back after dd2 i sobbed leaving her. she enjoys it though and i get to leave the house : )

Ewe · 09/01/2009 23:20

SOF - nice to see you! DD won't be fed from a spoon either, she totally refuses both from us and nursery yet she will let me put food in with my hands. Suffice to say, meal times are messy!

Hope DS is back to sleeping well turtle.

I am moving house tomorrow and I only started packing this evening so feeling a bit stressed so thought I would MN and relax a bit before bed. We're getting there with downstairs, upstairs on the other hand we haven't even touched yet. Eeeek!

turtle23 · 10/01/2009 05:33

OK,OK...he did it again. There may be hope in sight. P wont take milk out of anything but me either and I think I am really ready to wean him now. Hmm.
Spugs-am doing my very best to be the first to be pg among us. Will let you know next week. We are still trying despite themajor rows.

turtle23 · 10/01/2009 05:55

Had always thought that he would not rest until he walked properly. Yesterday he walked from one side of the room to the other, stopping to pick something up on the way. By afternoon we had standing and clapping then standing up doing that up and down dance they do. This morning he is just...walking. No more baby boy.

merryberry · 10/01/2009 08:35

hq, is this so you can go back to work, so it's absolultely got to happen? very tough, sorry to hear the worry. i'd say 3 old fashioned, tough, non-pc options if all else has failed. and no you wont get them on the feeding boards, and no i can't believe i'm about to say these in public but, if you are desperate:

  1. get someone else to do it if you bear to cannot starve him into it...i reckon 24 hours and mine would cave in to the formula bottle in order to drink.

  2. put something intriguiiung on the teat to encourage him to takeit in his mouth, if he's refusing to start the process at all anymore?

  3. add something intriguiuing into the milk to enourage him to drink it down? am not suggesting permament diet of rosewater/choco/strawb syrup formula of course! or try an intriguiuing temperature. serve it almost icy - will dial down the fish-milkness of the formula.

ok, can't vouch for numbers 2 & 3 but remembered them from older women who's babies stopped feeding in the 30's-50's due to various reasons. ( i used to nurse the elderly with dementia, and ran a few different guided remembrance classes!) of course they were going onto cow's milk or watered mush direct, as the formula around then was a bit expensive/weird.

number 1 worked for me in just over a day, but i coul;dn't do it allmyself, was crying too much. also did ity up against the return to work ticktock.

merryberry · 10/01/2009 08:36

sorry this worked with ds1 of course, ds2 is much more omnivorous...

evie2000 · 10/01/2009 08:51

HI all - I'm just flying by to say happy new year to all. SOrry to hear of the various trials and tribulations but glad to hear of the odd good night you're getting.
We continue to be very blessed by our ds although now he's crawling we have realised just how easy life is until they move - he's into everything as I am sure everyone's dc is. One quick question - waking in the night. My ds seems to back himself into a corner and cries when he finds himself sitting in the corner, trapped. As a baby who has always slept well(I whisper) I am not sure how long this will continue - I go in lie him back down and he is then back to sleep - has anyone else experienced this?
Anyway - on another note Turtle I hate to take your crown but I notice a conversation about March Mum pregnancy. Well - after 6 months of trying we finally achieved it.
Very early days and not due until next september (very bad planning to be pregnant over the summer!) but anyway - early early days but thought I'd share it with you guys first. ANyway - good luck to anyone 'trying'. I have found it especially stressful this time around but I won't go into that!
sorry for very long post and hope you all have a great weekend.

turtle23 · 10/01/2009 09:06

congrats evie!!!!!!!!!

skidoodle · 10/01/2009 09:09

happy new year all

Nice to come and see that dd is not atypical of babies of her age.

Sorry to hear about illnesses (so familiar)and burglaries.

Back to lurking for me.

glad to hear iz is doing well. She is dd's comh-aois (Irish term for people born on the same day)

fitnfestiveone · 10/01/2009 09:53

Evie & Turtle, you're bloomin' off yer heads but congratulations to Evie and fingers crossed for Turtle!
I think I can honestly say I'm sticking with 1..am 42 in a couple of weeks and can't imagine where I'd find any more energy from to go through it all again.

Am currently recovering from return of cold symptoms, luckily not the bug that was doing the rounds over xmas but would really appreciate a couple of weeks where noone has germs/bugs etc. Also ridiculously panicking about USA trip with LO, mainly cos a) we're staying at an airport hotel with no decent diners nearby and b) I hate driving over there and can't share it as DH would be a liability on the other side of the road. Everything will prob go like a dream, but doesn't stop me worrying about it in advance!
Still trying to think of a new nickname...

merryberry · 10/01/2009 10:45

you should just be fortytwo then, fn41, as that's the answer to the big question, isn't it ? saddo douglas adams ref, sorry folks. our b'days must be pretty close, mine's 24th, am 41 this year. no more for me either, no way am i copming off this rheum arthritis chemo while there's breath in my body and life in my liver. (shudder at memory of the pain last summer)

congratulations evie! i hope the stress time is over for you and all goes well. i'd say just keep putting him back, tis a stage will pass! though you could experiemnt with pile of teddies in the usual wedgie corner, see if that stops him getting quite so wedged?

hello spugs, hello sof!

and those not seen my all time drop down lovely GG baby pic on facebook, please go and make me proud by looking at the copy on my profile page. we were at a wedding and the photographer and he were playing peeko, then she started snapping. it's SO lovely.

merryberry · 10/01/2009 10:46

profile page here!

HolidaysQueen · 10/01/2009 12:00

Hello sexonfire, spugs and skidoodle - tis lovely to see you around

Evie - congratulations! What lovely news to start the new year with - has put a smile on my face after a morning involving backache, headache, worst period ever, boring mortgage payment discussion, insurance claim admin and biggest ever gas bill!

Thanks for advice, mb. I've invented something which we're going to try this weekend and see what happens, but then will be giving your ideas a whirl. Going to get DH to give him a yoghurt and drink of water about half an hour before feed due while I scarper for an hour or so. Idea is it will fill him up so he doesn't want feed (I hope) but still get milky calories and liquid into him so I don't feel like too bad a mummy. If it works I'll do this for a few days to hopefully break association of afternoon food with breast. Then introduce cup of formula instead of yoghurt and see if he takes it. If that doesn't work then I'll definitely be trying your ideas, the flavoured milk thing first. I'm guessing a homemade banana milkshake isn't exactly evil for one feed a day if it gets the milk inside him. Turtle - i'll let you know how I get on.

I ideally want to drop bf fully before I return to work - know I could continue but just don't think that is really for me. But if I can at the very least drop the afternoon feed then that will help. I return in 2 months and don't want end of bf to run too close to start in childcare so he doesn't have two upsets in one go.

Return to work still uncertain although a bit more organised - 3 days initially then up to 5 by June. Don't have to do Mondays until June which is nice But there is a possibility of a 3 day per week job in a different team which I should find out more about next week - keep your fingers crossed for me!

fitnfestiveone · 10/01/2009 12:18

sorry forgot to say hello to the lurkers!

MB - DH suggested just "theanswer", we're on the same wavelength

Dontpanic · 10/01/2009 16:23

Now my new name for Fn41!

turtle23 · 10/01/2009 18:58

Can I grump quietly here? Dont want to upset anyone by posting on the relevant forum...
My website tok ages to find a name and I checked a million names on domain search. I checked whether anybody had made a site for surrey doulas and it wasn't there. Now I have done all the work and given people the addy I've been contacted by a group of surrey doulas who bought the name doulas twoyears ago and are still planning on using it one day so I have to remove mine. I just feel a bit sad as I really dont have the cash to be buying new domains and wasting the old one and have given that addy to soooo many people.
Grump finished. I guess I should have triple checked.

HolidaysQueen · 10/01/2009 19:10

Why do you have to remove yours? Surely you got in there first so they will have to rethink? They should have bought your address as well if they wanted to restrict who could use similar names and they should have got their act together sooner as well.

I doubt they would have a leg to stand on in court - you have shown no malicious intent in buying your domain name (unlike cybersquatters), your name is an accurate description of what you do so perfectly reasonable to call yourself that, and they don't yet have a reputation for you to piggyback on. If anything you could argue that they can't use surreydoulas.co.uk because they would be trying to benefit off the good name that you have developed.

Tell them to f off I say!

HQ x

HolidaysQueen · 10/01/2009 19:12

got distracted and ranty on turtle's behalf - actually came on to say yoghurt and water went down very well and DS didn't demand an afternoon feed. hope he sleeps well tonight! if that all works, then the next trick will be to switch him back to formula...

Dontpanic · 10/01/2009 19:29

turtle, I'm with HQ - if they'd "bought" the name 2 years ago, it wouldn't have been available for you, so sod them. You can play nice and say you'll link to their website in exchange for a link from them to you...

HQ, good news, fingers crossed!
Right, better go wake LO up, he's out cold in babyjail with his bum in the air.
