new home!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

josey, I'm so mad that you had to hear that! Olivia is a lovely baby and such a cuddly sweetie (I got to snuggle with her!!), how dare someone say that she's not worth the effort you put in. As I said when I was there, she's doing so much better, especially with her eyes, and you should be proud of how hard she fights. She is a lovely person and deserves more respect than this consultant does himself IMO.

And as for your other two, I don't really know your DS1, but your DD1 clearly loves her little sister and is thriving! You are not neglecting or in any way being unfair to her.

For the mumsnet record, My DS1 thinks Josey's DD1 is just the best in the world. She's a year older than him and he admires her so much.

ThePenguinProject · 02/12/2008 09:41

T-y-p-i-n-g with one hand and v slowly as am trapped under sleeping baby.

Can see hot cup of tea, but can't reach it.

Josey - You are a wonderful Mother to Olivia and that guy is a complete arse. Yes, Olivia is disabled, but as your love and care has shown, the initial prognosis turned out to be overly negative because they didn't count on just how determined you and Olivia are.

Poppy - My nanny just didn't bother turning up to her interview. Your nanny's initials weren't JB were they?

It's all worked up for the best now as DH is going to be a SAHD for a while - although he may get an evening shift or two. Positives: I get a clean house, home ccooking and someone that loves Ryder looking after him. Negatives: No money for holidays, clothes, etc.

Can't remember any other posts right now, sorry to those I've ignored.

ThePenguinProject · 02/12/2008 09:45

Oh and I think I now have carpal tunnel syndrome. Can no longer pick up saucepans, which makes cooking tricky.

R now awake and puking on me, again. See you later!

bitofadramaqueen · 02/12/2008 10:00

Poppy - what kind of pushchair do you have? I'm not the best to tell you not to buy another one as I've already bought a maclaren buggy for bus, travelling etc. HAve to say I love my maclaren

Deb very cute re Stefan wanting to be home for the 1st spoonful.

Paro - hope you got a good nights sleep!

Thanks katyjo - it was only reading all the posts on here that I was reminded that night wakenings were fairly common around S's age. Am delighted to report that he wasn't too bad last night - after taking forever to settle at bedtime, whenever he woke up the dummy did the trick. I definitely wont be trying to wean him off his night time dummy now any time soon . We did give him loads of nelson's teething powders yesterday as he was quite drooly/rosy cheeked so am wondering if his gums were bothering him previously. who knows?! I just hope that he's ok tonight too!

Josey don't you dare leave us! [stern emoticon]. We all appreciate why you dont always have time to post, and if it helps having a rant on here every now and again then go ahead and rant please.

PP sorry to hear about the carpal tunnel. Is it serious. My MIL has just had op on her hand. Hope you get hot cup of tea soon.

poppy34 · 02/12/2008 11:52

I think there is something they learn at consultant school abotu being a complete arse hose bdq*I've got a maclaren - and really like it but edie off it - but am going to hang in there (she did used to love it ) as could be a phase like alipallis' peter had.

PP - I did remember that (lucky it worked out with your dp being sahd) - they weren't her initials. I am bit nervous now abotu it turning into a horror show trying to find one but at teh same time I'm quite happy as her cv wasn't ideal and I was a bit nervous about hiring someone out of fear of not finding anyone else who I wasn't entirely happy with.

Poonami time here - edie defo got a tummy bug (as dh and I have had it).... can't remember as someone else had this (BDq?) -what did you do/how long did it last?

pleasechange · 02/12/2008 12:16

josey that consultant's behavious was truly horrendous, you must have been furious. What does he expect you do do - just leave her to her own devices? Let's hope he doesn't have children of his own

poppy sorry edie has a tummy bug. Don't have any experience of this but I know how horrible it is to see them sick.

PP DH is also going to be a SAHD for a while, I'm actually quite jealous!

paro well done for making it through your first day at work

alipalli do you find the ellaroo easy enough to use? I've been using a stretchy wrap but it won't do much longer. Do you wrap the material round the baby (with the moby I pre-wrap it and then put A in, but I think with the woven ones you wrap it round the baby?)

josey · 02/12/2008 12:24

Once again thank you for you kind words and support!!

Feeling alot better today as went to see Oli's pead consultant that is in charge of her care. She is very angry and said she thinks she is doing very well and was please with her today, she is very straight talking and wouldnt let me live in lala land. She took his name, she is natorious at the hospital so think his head may end up slightly chewed!

Allnew....this was his advise to me as a parent to 3 children himself, He started by saying firstly as a father myself!!!

Oh well today is another day and that B£*lbag is in the past, thank god!!!

AH that is very kind of you to say that about my Thug baby lol!! this will make you laugh.....Kyle asked Rhianna if she had fun playing with Miss Duncan at the flower(as she kept saying Miss Duncan) to which she replyed "dont be silly Miss Duncan is my Nursery teacher I wasnt playing with her, I was playing with Duncan"

Neenztwinz · 02/12/2008 12:51

Josey, I was thinking last night that the consultant is probably well known for saying ridiculous things like that! Glad you are feeling better today.

I wrapped my two up in all sorts last night cos Esther kept waking the night before and I think she was cold. I put her in a thick cardigan that is too big for her so it covered her hands and kept them warm. She slept all night (so did Theo - sorry everyone ). Will definitely be using those cardies again.

Since starting weaning they are growing so fast but I can't be bothered to sort their clothes out. Theo has a babygro on today that barely fastens under his bum and Esther is now getting too big for 0-3mths clothes!

christmasspiritpoppy34 · 02/12/2008 12:57

neenz - waking for cold is a pain so good to wrap them up.

trying new christmas name but not sure I like it so need to think of something else

aberdeenhiker · 02/12/2008 13:28

josey Rhianna is hilarious! Glad that you got support from your pead consultant!

DH is home again and of course Fraser slept well last night (up at 1:30 and 5:00, I know that's not good by most standards, but good for us). Why he couldn't do that for me, I've no idea.

Amberc · 02/12/2008 13:42

Poppy I had a M&P Prammette and Luke loathed it and I swear he was really squished even though it's meant to take them to todderhood. He's not overly keen on the Maclaren but I am as it's so lightweight and folds up nice and compactly. You already have what I would consider to be the best option for a baby of this age so what else would you get? Not a Bugabo? Anyway you've probably 'got over' your pram moment now!

Josey So glad you reported that consultant. What an arse. Please don't leave the thread - I always wonder how you and Oli are and so does my other half who asks about you regularly.

I definitely want a side carrier - who was it that said they had one - a scooterbaby? Is it any good? My back is breaking - no idea exactly how much Luke weighs but I know he's over 20lbs and he wants to be picked up all the time! He can sit up on his own now which is great as I can leave him playing on the mat but after about 20 minutes he gets bored and wants me to stand in front of the TV holding him which is the only thing that keeps him quiet!

Luke woke up every single hour of the night last night so I am shattered. Dunno what's wrong with him. He has terrible eczema on his cheeks so maybe it was itching him. Git some cream I saw recommended on another thread so we'll see if that works.

Anyway - am off to Cyprus tomorrow morning so won't be about. It's my birthday on Thursday (36!!) so am also looking forward to opening my pressies (tonight as we can't be arsed to bring them with). May post later but if not I look forward to reading 10 pages of posts on my return (actually will prob be on a ne thread so will look forward to the new title!)

aberdeenhiker · 02/12/2008 13:55

Happy birthday Amber and hope Luke gives you a nice night as a birthday present...

bitofadramaqueen · 02/12/2008 14:01

Poppy - yep, S had a virus. Every nappy was a dirty one. It lasted nearly two weeks, although he was over the worst of it after about a week. REgular nappy changes were key, and watch out for any nappy rash starting - have the metanium handy just in case (works a treat on nappy rash).

Poppy I would suspect the maclaren thing is probably a phase. In fact, I'm starting to realise that nearly everything is a phase. HAve said it before, but will say it again... if a week is a long time in politics then a week in baby land is a feckin eternity!

josey - glad you're feeling better and that your consultant is going to deal with it. Your consultant is best placed to know about Olivia. LOL at Miss Duncan

Oh I want a christmas name poppy but have struggled to come up with anything.

Glad you had a good night's sleep Neenz. HAve been reading your puree thread - good for you, there are clearly a lot of puree lovers out there.

Amber funny you saying that about the squishiness - my main pram is a Bugaboo bee and S looks really squished in it now I've put the footmuff in. However, he seems quite happy when he's in it and I do still love it. Not sure about it lasting till toddlerhood though. (Ssshhhh, don't tell Ernest if you see her around MN - she did warn me about bugaboos ).

It was whinegums with the scooterbaby amber. I quite fancy one too, but S will need new nappies soon and it wont be long till he needs a bigger car seat, so I'm being restrained for once .

Ok, strange question - has anyone had any problems with their feet since birth? Whenever I stand up after any length of time, my feet are really sore for a few minutes. After dusting off my long abandoned lateral thigh trainer, I could only manage 5-10 minutes on it today before my feet were really painful. I should probably go to the docs...

However, on the plus side, I have been studying today and going back to it now.

alipalli · 02/12/2008 16:19

Allnew there are almost certainly easier slings to get in and out of than woven wraps as you have to wrestle with 4+ meters of fabric! However once you know how to use them then the wrestling is pretty straightforward. So far I have only used it for one carrying position (I think the photo is on my profile), which I feel I have pretty much nailed now. For me the wrap sling works really well because it is comfy, I can carry Peter for a good hour once he is in. How you tie it depends on the carrying position. For this one I wrap ME in the fabric first then slot Peter in at the end. Paro bought one too, she might have different experiences of it?

Rolf · 02/12/2008 16:21

Oh God, the boys are fighting about whether DS2's friend has really made a morphing machine in his father's garden shed . DS1 insists it is against the laws of science. DS2 claims that his friend is a scientific genius. This child is chief inventor in DS2's gang and has also, apparently, made a duplicator out of old batteries. Small boys are so brilliant. I hope the girls are this much fun.

Josey - that dr sounds like someone who missed his one lecture on communication. Glad you reported him.

I've asked DH to get the high chair out of storage so let's hope it arrives before her 18th birthday . Must start her on solids soon. Thea isn't sleeping so well these days - I'm knackered and eating sugary crap so feeling bloaty, sluggish, huge, blah blah.

x

Amberc · 02/12/2008 16:26

Ha Ha - I got a lateral thigh trainer and used it once!

alipalli · 02/12/2008 16:26

BDQ: "Bitofanativityqueen" ? Can't think of one for me yet.

Re: pushchairs, I think Peter's pushchair allergy was linked to his digestion being a bit painful back then. You may remember that I cut back on dairy for a bit. Seems to be better now, probably was not a lactose intolerance at all but I wonder if it was undiagnosed reflux caused by him growing very fast and his oesofagus (sp) not being able to keep up. Hence when layed back in a pushchair it was painful. All conjecture though.

pleasechange · 02/12/2008 16:38

Thanks ali - I've only used my stretchy wrap for that position too, but I like it anyway and A is so cosy in it. Good to know that you can pre-wrap and put DS in, as I like to use the sling for airports and that is ideal (annoyingly I'm always asked to remove A from the sling through security so ideally I wouldn't have to undo the wrap!). I've ordered a pouch from ebay to see how I get on with that for airports (going to see family about once a month)

Jollyjoseyjinglebells · 02/12/2008 16:48

Thought I would join in the xmas spirit!!!Seeing as you are going to hunt me down if I dont come back

Had a very odd day today I had an email through Friends Reunited from an Ex from 15years ago and we seriously didnt split on good terms....kind of weirded me out a bit!

HV has been on the phone she has put a complaint into the two docs that look after me and Olivia about this Consultant and wants them to also write in a complaint about the treatment

pleasechange · 02/12/2008 16:52

Hi josey like the name, how very festive!
That is weird about the ex - are you going to answer?

hollyivypoppy34 · 02/12/2008 17:19

amberc many happy returns and have a fab time. re slings what kind do you have alipalli? I've got a baby bjorn for being out and about (whcih edie loves and I've ignroed the advice about it being bad as she is rarely in it for long time). I've got a baba sling for home which is ok now but a bit of a faff to put on. allnew what is the sling you got - the thing I don't like about the bubasling is it feels a bit too easy to get out of and soemthing that you could wrap them in would be better.. plus when edie is whining/sick like at momemnt she wants to be snuggled.

I was vaguely eyeing the bugaboo but searhced here and saw your post saying its flimsy -plus in terms of practicality I just love my 2 maclarens (strangely I reckon she lieks the cheaper quest better). Then dh came home/I saw sense

BDQ thanks for tips re virus.. I remembered what you said about metanium so have bene out to get some -plus been rigorous re cleaning/drying her every change .. it could well be that she is a bit uncomfy in pushchair due to having a sore tummy and better when upright (she does want to be carried a lot)..

pleasechange · 02/12/2008 17:48

metanium is great stuff, sorted out A's rash in a day

poppy I already have a moby which I love, and a babyhawk mei tei. The wrap is my favourite. The pouch I've gone for is a Coorie fleece (similar to hotslings but I thought fleece would be good for winter and it was £8.50 on ebay!)

amber have a great time

abdnhikinginawinterwonderland · 02/12/2008 17:48

oooh! Christmas nicknames! I'm going to try one this year... It seems appropriate after all the snow today.

hollyivypoppy34 · 02/12/2008 18:03

yes dh currently stuck waiting ot leave at aberdeen airport ah so guessing its nice and festive there (not sure he is feeling that havng got up at 4.30 this morning to go although my sympathy limited as meant I didnt get back to sleep having got up to edie at 3)

abdnhikinginawinterwonderland · 02/12/2008 18:07

poppy Fraser's godmother takes that flight (if it's the Luton one) up every few months for work and she's always exhausted too. It's a bit too sleety to be totally festive here unfortunately.
