Don't know anything at all about nannies other than the night nanny who only does short term anyway. You should ask on the nanny thread - I'm fairly sure there is one.

debinaustria · 24/11/2008 20:04

Oh Essie, I'll keep everything crossed that the osteopath sorts out your back and the abscess is gone by Wednesday. ((hugs))

Amberc · 24/11/2008 20:39

Picture on my profile of Luke munching on his mesh feeder.I think I have discovered why he won't open his mouth as he 'sucked' a bit of mush off a spoon today. Also sucked the life out of a nectarine in the mesh feeder. Is definitely an 'I don't know how to eat without sucking' thing. hmm. I guess he'll have to learn!

hedgehog1979 · 24/11/2008 20:44

will read all the posts later, just need to get this back on my list

poppy34 · 24/11/2008 20:57

amberc there is a thread and its not too scary -got some really good tips on there. re luke and sucking thnk that is the first sign they are interested (per my friend if they push it away with their tongue leave it). at least he is keen on the taste.

Neenztwinz · 24/11/2008 21:17

Oh Essie it sounds terrible! Are you going to stop BFing then you have to have the new anti-bs? Why can you not express? And your back too . Hope you are feeling a bit better.

Hey Sponge, you can use Calpol every night, as long as you don't give more than four doses in 24 hours. Dose him up! If you had toothache you'd want it too . Just give it to him for, say, five nights, then try him without it for a night to see if he still wakes.

My meal out on Saturday was good, I don't think I embarrassed myself . Had a quick look at daily mail online (my guilty pleasure - not necessarily my politics! I think I'd be chucked out of the union if they knew I read that ) before we went but there is not much going on in the world anyway! Just this thing called the credit crunch which seemed very dull.

All is well with the twins, they are a delight.

something to cheer up those who are teething/tired

link

Essie3 · 24/11/2008 22:15

That cheered me up!
I'm willing my gum to clear up now because I only have 4 penicillin tabs left. If it isn't gone, then it's the other non-breastfeeding antibiotics. I don't really want to give up bfing, but Neenz I can express, just I have had this oversupply problem from the start and I have problems with engorgement. So when I miss a feed (eg at night when Iestyn gets EBM and I sleep), I have a day of squirting and leaking even after I've expressed. Also I don't know whether 5 days would be the end for bfing? Maybe Iestyn wouldn't want me any more?
Anyhow, all fingers crossed and name on the prayer list at church for healing the old gum. Otherwise I've been in touch with Saint Sharon Breward, and I'm sure I can get some alternative, breast-friendly antibiotics.
Oh, I can't have the tooth out right now because it's a general anaesthetic and hospital job, with the possibility of permanent jaw numbness! Also that free dental care doesn't include taking out teeth - that's a couple of hundred if I go to the dentist.

The back is achy, but again I'm hoping for a quick recovery - I'm walking around like Mrs Overall here!
AND I've had my period!

Iestyn has been really really unsettled, so we've given some calpol assuming it's teething.

Tim is also grumpy but there's nothing basically wrong with him! (Actually he's really tired, which is probably the big problem in this House of Tiredness! )

Essie3 · 24/11/2008 22:17

And I should have thanked you all for the support and goodwill. I really appreciate it. Hit a bit of a low point here on the weekend!

alipalli · 24/11/2008 22:31

Evening.

Wish I had read the thread this morning as I would have been cheered to know that we were not alone in having a bad night last night. DH did not get to sleep till 3, and I have been awake since 5. We think it is teething too ( or I just jumping on a band wagon here?) So my question is just how miserable can LOs be when they are teething? I was expecting grumpy, but Peter seems downright miserable and I am not convinced that calpol is completely fixing it.

Essie poor, poor you. Hope you feel better soon. Have you checked to see if there are alternative anti-biotics thatbare fine with BF? When I had my c/s infection I had a-b's but alternatives.

Sybil - know how it feels to have childcare with the vomiting bug: grim.

Ok must go to sleep now as have lost ability type as am so tired.

ThePenguinProject · 24/11/2008 22:37

Quick one from me...

Essie / Sponge - Just to combine your queries regarding calpol and pain relief whilst bf-ing, I really was a slummy mummy today. Couldn't find any paracetemol in the house and my head was killing me...so I swug (is that the past tense swig?) gulps from Ryder's calpol and feel much better now. Essie, as I mentioned I had the same thing due to wisdom tooth 'misgrowing' and I had it taken out whilst pregnant. Once it was out it was numb, but felt huge for about an hour, then horrid pain for a couple of hours (I was literally punching my pillow), but that was it. After then it just got better and waking up the next morning was amazing after days of pain. And I got my tooth taken out for free, although I had to wait with lots of non EU citizens for a couple of hours. Here's where I went: www.kch.nhs.uk/services/dental-institute/emergency-dental-care/ I gave them a ring the day before and they told me times, etc and to just come in. (I know the website suggests otherwise, but I really would suggest giving them a ring.)

Poppy - I had booked an interview with Nanny tonight at 7.30pm. No show and I still haven't heard from her. Not impressed. In order to enter a enquiry for Wim nursery I've found, it's cost me £30!!! It'll be another £250 deposit to get him on the witing list.

Sorry to all those who are still shattered. Hope you all have better nights tonight. Who was mentioning very wet nights? R might as well not be wearing a nappy he's leaking so much at night! Any extra dry nappy suggestions anyone?

Gotta go - Spooks is on and after the last episode I am addicted again.

Neenztwinz · 24/11/2008 22:59

Yes they can be very miserable when teething - like Essie ! I have one word and I am not afraid to use it - Medised

Essie, Iestyn would definitely still want you after five days! I would go for it cos the alternative is just not feeding and not expressing and therefore getting really engorged anyway? He will be able to build his supply back up afterwards. I have read that even if you stop BFing, you will always produce milk (eventually) if you let a baby suck.

I have been on the BFing boards looking for a ruck tonight but no one's biting really (tho I am sure they will on this weaning thread - what no BLWing??? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weaning/653639-What-do-you-give-a-6-month-old-for-tea)

debinaustria · 25/11/2008 08:14

Morning everyone, hope last night was better for you all

Poppy - loved that thread - thank you!!

Essie - how are you today?

alipalli · 25/11/2008 08:26

Much better night. Thought it was going to be bad initially as P woke twice between 9 and 11, but then he slept till 4.30!!! Fed him, back to sleep woke at 6, brought him in with us and he has been asleep till 8.15!!! Amazing. Hope others had better luck too. I am a firm believer now that it is all about luck and nothing to do with parental skill.

bitofadramaqueen · 25/11/2008 09:19

Essie - fingers crossed for you too. I can't believe that you can't get your tooth extracted for free! I thought if it was extracted at the hospital you got it done free anyway?

S was very grumpy yesterday, so I'm hoping for a better day today. He's off swimming with DH this morning.

Did you manage to find a ruck last night neenz

Neenztwinz · 25/11/2008 09:28

No ruck but it was fun. There's still time tho, it's still early

Glad you had a good night ali, LOL at it being all to do with luck not skill.

I clipped the end of Theo's finger off this morning . I am usually good at doing their nails but this time I just took a big chunk out. It bled for at least 45 mins till I put a plaster on - it could still be bleeding now . He was very brave tho, good job it wasn't Esther or we'd never have had the end of it . I have rung NHS Direct (cos babycentre says if a wound has not stopped bleeding in 10 mins go to casualthy ). But they said it will be fine, just watch out for infection.

Parofleurmapu · 25/11/2008 09:30

Morning all

With you on the luck thing alli, Ive given up trying to decipher or worry if anything in the routine is whats waking Fleur. Since doing that she goes down at 7.30pm sleeps til 1am-3am has a bottle and sleeps til 6am and then comes into bed with us til 8am or more, much better than constant waking to which their seems to reason!

Teething uummm sounds we are all at it, Fleur really unsettled at nap times legs and arms flaing and chomping at dummy, thiink its either teething or developmental stage I read when they are learning to sit crawl etc their brains make them do it at night etc??

Oooh neenz no reaction so far though ive posted with you

Right thought i was going to have nice day in doing nothing but the dog is ill and is pooing everywhere Have tried putting nappy on her but they dont fit!!! so its off to the vets. Fingers crossed shes ok as she is quite old now

ThePenguinProject · 25/11/2008 09:30

AliP - I agree 100% about sleep being about luck!

aberdeenhiker · 25/11/2008 09:34

Essie - describing it as hitting a low point this weekend sounds like an understatement (or else you're wayyy more laid back than me). You've had a crap few days, above and beyond normal baby issues, I really hope it improves!

We got the house we wanted! I'm very excited and happy BUT instead of being able to celebrate, we're rushing around trying to somehow get an appointment at the bank to set up our mortgage. Stupid HSBC just released a new tracker rate last week and as a result they have no appointments. Since DH is self-employed and his business banks with them we really need to get our mortgage from them. So I've got a mortgage advisor calling me at home in ten minutes to set something up - but both kids are awake. Can you say trouble? Anyways I'm sure it'll work out and I'm going to be very excited to be in the new house for Christmas. I'm just fed up with

aberdeenhiker · 25/11/2008 09:34

oops - just fed up with rushing off my feet in general!

aberdeenhiker · 25/11/2008 09:35

neenz - DH did that to Fraser too but it healed just fine. It's so hard with their teeny fingers.

Neenztwinz · 25/11/2008 09:38

That's exciting news Aberdeen - do you get a preferential rate cos your DH's business banks with them? What's the tracker they have released? We moved to them in the summer on 0.48% above the base rate for the lifetime of the mortgage with £599 fee. I am well pleased with that now esp as no need to rearrange in 2/3 years' time.

PiggyPenguin · 25/11/2008 09:47

Poor you Essie, what a horrible time you're having. Fingers crossed that the abiotics kick in!

Parofleurmapu · 25/11/2008 09:53

neenz we are soooooo going to get slated on that thread!!! hehe bring it on where are miltants PP and poppy? [evil cackling grin]

goingfor3 · 25/11/2008 10:20

Essie I really feel for you. I'm also suprised it's not free.

AH well done on the house!

I've posted on the weaning thread too. Probably not a good idea to say DS has four meals a day but it works for him.
