Essie3 · 19/11/2008 21:38

That was a HUGE post!
And sorry to 5GoMad, I keep calling you by your real name. Totally inconsistent too!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/11/2008 21:40

Sorry essie DD slept through while teething not sure DS will do as he is a bloke.

Also have DVD player to take with us.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/11/2008 21:41

Doesn't matter

Essie3 · 19/11/2008 21:44

Tsk, 5GoMad/Sophie!

hedgehog1979 · 19/11/2008 21:44

AH keeping everything crossed for you re the house
amber sorry you have been so rough, it sucks being ill at the best of time and I am feeling incredibly lucky that I have not been ill since Isaac was born

LL enjoy the kittens, mum and dad rescued two brothers a year ago and they are lovely. How about bubble and squeak?

SBBP glad you enjoyed seeing the london ladies, really quite annoyed as DH has decided we will be going to Wimbledon tomorrow as one of his friends is emmigrating to Aus on Friday so t'is farewell drinks.

poppy did you get rid of your fish smell? I know raw onions cut in half for paint smells (random fact of the day)

Think Isaac must be teething as he has been very screamy this afternoon, going red through the fact that he is still all bunged up, and then crying in his sleep as well. I had to send Tony to Tesco with print outs of what we needed as when we tried to swap Isaac wouldn't settle at all. He is in bed now but not sure how long it will last as we have been snuggled up in bed most of the evening.

To top it all off the CM we were supposed to be going to see tomorrow has just cancelled as she has filled her place full time and we only need 2 days a week so back to google I go

Can't believe the SCD news - watched part of the BBC 2 show and kind of agree with James who called John selfish

hedgehog1979 · 19/11/2008 21:47

wow x posted with loads of people then

essie I never see famous people so I must make an effort to meet with you so that you can take me to all these fancy hangouts

libralady · 19/11/2008 21:56

Thanks for the name suggestions. There are some good ones.
What do people think about Wallis (as in Mrs Simpson) and Gromit?

Essie3 · 19/11/2008 21:56

Ah, but only if you want to see me embarrass myself in front of the famous folk. John Cleese, Tom Jones not my finest moment either...

alipalli · 20/11/2008 09:31

Libra, I had cats called Topsy and Tim, but I imagine children today would not know who they are. What about Charlie and Lola?

poppy34 · 20/11/2008 09:36

ll like the names...

sponge/hedgehog the fish smell has gone (thank god - I know I'm a slattern btu even I draw the line at a hosue that smells of fish) . Edie up at 4.40 today - may have been hungry (we're defo on cusp of needing to wean) but i reckon it was to see dh - I'm sure she knows when he is out.

quick post before nct lot arrive

aberdeen fingers crossed re house and also with you about worrying re going back in april poss coinciding with seperation anxiety -given I am convinced she knows when dh out for night I anticpiate some fun and games if I'm out all day (mind you she is only restless if doesnt see him before she goes to bed so am hoping if I'm home that'll be ok).

5gomad - second essie advice re travelling later -have taken edie to paris a number of times and best time was when we went in evening ... daytime esp morning tends to get her kicking off as she gets bored in back of car

poppy34 · 20/11/2008 09:51

I would quite like to buy crushwitheyeliner a virtual pint...link - think this is exactly the kind of thread we were complaining about paro/amber

Neenztwinz · 20/11/2008 09:54

Amber, good for you realising that you will be a happier mum by going to work. Hope I didn't make you feel guilty by going on about mums in the workplace. I don't think it is wrong for mums to work, I just feel sorry for mums who are forced to work for financial reasons when they don't want to.

Sponge, it's like a soap opera coming on here every morning to see how your LO slept! I am so glad the water seems to be helping. I think you will have that cracked soon.

My two slept through the night again . They ate the most huge amount of food yesterday. My mum couldn't believe how much they put away and said we (me three sister and me) never ate that much. Esther woke a couple of times at about 11.30 and 1.30 but I just left her to settle herself cos I know she couldn;t possibly be hungry.

Re sterilising the pump - I just poor boiling water through the pump to give it a quick wash between pumps. Can't see why they would refuse to drink it if the punp has not been sterilised.

So essie is the knife to save sheep or to protect yourself?

Can't believe John Sergeant leaving SCD! What a big con. He has a job (after-dinner speaking apparently) on a cruise next week .

Essie3 · 20/11/2008 11:00

OH MY GOD! Anybody watching This Morning? The man that's pro-prostitutes and spent more than £100,000 on prostitutes...he's a cartoon! (I think they're all struggling to keep straight faces.)

Yeah, classy; Iestyn woke several times last night and I'm tired. He went back to sleep with Calgel (cheaper than bonjela, same ingredients). I'm also suffering though because I'm teething. Wisdom tooth!

Amberc · 20/11/2008 11:20

Hi all,

Neenz no offense taken but I know the work thing can be a hit topic especially as I guess financially we wouldn't be on the breadline if I didn't go back I just want to because I'm going mad.

I think John Sargeant is just knackered to be honest! I heard about his ob on the boat but he probably thought there was no way he would last this long - the Kate Garraway effect has happened though. Why do you think that Ricky Gervais bloke on X Factor lasted so long!

Night Nanny is now gone - what am I going to do without her?! Last night I had the first full night's sleep since the baby was born. We can have her back next year but I am hoping that things will have straightened out by then (specially now as I'll need to do a full day's work 5 days a week too!).

Had the prostitutes thing on in the background but I truly believe that you'll never get rid of prostitution and maybe if it was legalised you wouldn't have violent pimps and poor girls being shipped over from eastern europe and forced to do it.

ThePenguinProject · 20/11/2008 11:35

Dammit, missed this morning thing Essie. Only just turned it on.

Congrats on a full nights sleep Amber!

Financially I don't have a choice re: going back to work and in a way I actually think that makes it easier. It means that there's no point me getting into a debate about whether or not to go back with myself (or anyone else) because I simply have to. However even if I won the lottery I still don't think there's a right anwser. I need some non Ryder time and I like work. However the idea of missing time with him is awful too. (Gotta love the irony of the fact that I am ignoring him right now to type this...).

I wash and sterilise after every pump and feed. Out of habit more than anything. I'm sure it wouldn't make much difference. But is it worth giving it a try for a few days just to check HH?

Gotta go, R's SCREAMING...

Essie3 · 20/11/2008 11:46

I'm going back to work full time because I spent years (and thousands) building up my career and I can't bear the thought of it being for nothing. Technically don't need to financially (would have to get rid of one house though ) but I'm one of those selfish evil women who want it all and complain when their baby doesn't sleep, find their baby unsatisfactorily stimulating for them etc etc...
It's nursery here, which is more expensive (also throwing money at the problem - see, born evil!) but there are other children and routines which is good. And it's Welsh medium.

poppy34 · 20/11/2008 13:22

amen to that essie- am in exactly the same position.. but each to their own on what works best for them/their family.
didn't see the this morning but similar debate on radio yesterday.. they've managed to find some real princes among men to defend the pro prostitute (ifyswim) position.

no smiles here for photographer but hope we get some nice ones anyway - ironically we're all smiles and giggles now he has gone

Neenztwinz · 20/11/2008 14:34

LOL at ignoring LO to come on MN!

I am going back to work one day a week and I think I will enjoy it and it will be a nice break. I know what you mean about building up a career, Essie, me too but in some ways I think I have gone as far as I ever will in my career (cos can't be arsed with the politics of management). Just doing one day a week keeps my oar in so perhaps someday I will go back full-time. Contracts where I work are like gold dust (lots of casuals) so I don't want to give mine up.

I was feeling very down last night, not entirely sure why but I feel better today. Think it was cos I had a lovely day at my mum's but didn't get back till 8.30 then I had to tidy up and then spend 30 mins on phone to Sky cos my sky plus still wasnt working even though I had rung them about it the night before and they assured me it was fixed . So it was nearly 10pm before I sat down. I felt low so had a load of Dairy Milk fruit and nut . I was thinking maybe I was sad because of my hormones... I spotted what I think was EWCM (egg white cervical mucus, sorry of TMI!) last week so may be about to get my first period since babs were born. What joy!

Am feeling pretty smug right now tho cos babs just both had a two-hour lunch sleep - the first time ever they have done that. Usually they wake after 45 mins. I really hope this continues - it is a very nice break in the middle of the day!

pleasechange · 20/11/2008 15:12

OMG I was boiling the breast pump and forgot about it. Went into the kitchen and it had boiled completely dry, and had melted into the pan!

The whole house stinks of smoke. I've opened the back door and put on the extractor to clear it, but do you think it will have gone by 4.30pm?! (i.e. by the time DH comes home!)

A and I are now trapped in the front room with the door closed and it seems ok in here

bitofadramaqueen · 20/11/2008 15:37

Here's hoping its just a phase poppy - although a part of me really likes the fact that he needs his mummy to soothe him

allnew at suggestion of telling woman to cross her legs. We think we might stick at one and people always telling me how cruel it is. What if for some reason we couldn't have anymore but didn't want to talk about it.

Aberdeen fingers crossed - and of course house chat is relevant, I dont think we have any subjects that aren't up for discussion on this thread!

S losing patience with me so got to run!

pleasechange · 20/11/2008 15:54

ok I've got both front and back doors open now, and all the downstairs windows. Have also got a few candles burning. Had to email DH and ask where the window keys where though

Aberdeen feel free to chat about your house - I think people just post what is on their mind at the time, and it'll take our minds off baby poo/sleep etc for a minute!

neenz glad you're feeling better

poppy that's just typical isn't it. I'll frequently get out the camera when A is doing something interesting or laughing, and then of course he'll stop to examine what I've got in my hands!

alipalli · 20/11/2008 16:05

allnew - that's a bit of a shocker, at least you didn't burn the house down . Let us know tomorrow if DH susses it!

BDQ only child prejudice really gets my goat. Speaking as an only child I can't tell you how annoying it was/is being told that I must be spoilt because I don't have siblings. Infact being an only meant that I got lots of discipline and rules instead of lots of toys. I was banned from having My Little Ponies and Care Bears which made me something of a social pariah at the time . I think I have just about got over it now although the fact that I am posting about it here might suggest otherwise . I wonder whether my Mum got critical comments too? She had about 4 m/c's so it would have been pretty hurtful if she had. It's not something I talk to her about as even now the scars pretty real.

poppy34 · 20/11/2008 16:12

the whole only child thing is a bit ott -as alipalli said its pretty insensitive to say that as its none of anyones business is it?

but to miss out on my little ponies ...how cruel (what amazes me is hwo things come around again as fashion - I think you can still get them along with strawberry shortcake).

aberdeenhiker · 20/11/2008 16:47

Essie wasn't me about the carpal tunnel - but hope it gets better soon! And my DS1 didn't wake more than normal with teething, but then he never slept through so there was plenty of opportunity to give him calpol.

hedgehog, poppy, bitofafdramaqueen, allnew thanks for your good wishes about the house! I'm still crossing my fingers here.

Love alipali's suggestion LL of Charlie and Lola

allnew oh no! sending sympathy!

spongebrainbigpants · 20/11/2008 16:53

Essie, I'm really disappointed that you weren't breaking the law!

Neenz, lol at my LO's sleep being like a soap opera - you must watch some seriously boring tv!!

On that point, last night he woke at 11pm (luckily dh was still up!) and then 4am. I fed him water at 4 and he took nearly the whole bottle, I then left him awake and could hear him chatting to himself. He then went quiet and then about 15mins later started screaming . Dh and me rushed into the room to find him lying on his tummy, parallel to the bottom of the cot with one of his legs wedged firmly through the bars of the cot. Poor thing was beside himself. I eventually had to give him some milk to settle him and he slept til 8am. Went in to him this morning to find him sleeping soundly on his tummy.

So, two questions: cot bumpers and tummy sleeping.

I have bought some cot bumpers but the woman in Mothercare told me he could overheat . Is this true? Who else uses them? And if he wants to sleep on his tummy should I put him on his tummy or leave him to get himself there?

The saga continues . . . . . !
