all back to normal thanks poledra!
first sperm sample must be sent to hospital next week for counting. There are loads of rules for it - the sample must be produced "by masturbation only" (do they expect me to spit in into the pot?? ) ; it has to arrive before 11 am and be less than an hour old, and it must not be more than 3 days since he previously ejaculated. DH is pleased about this last rule - it means he gets some kind of relations twice within a week.

sweetkitty · 02/01/2009 11:57

Isaidno - lol at the "rules" must have been thought up by a man

Poledra - after my "scare" I am going to be ultra careful IF we have relations, I have 3 under 5 right now think I have done my bit. No I think it should be the first timers, I got pregnant with no2 when DD1 was 9 months and I would have liked a shorter gap looking at it now, you are changing two sets of nappies anyway and I think a year apart would have been good, crazy at first but good now they are a bit older. I love the close bond DD1 and 2 have, I wanted DD3 to be closer in age too but it wasn't to be (periods never came back until DD2 was 12 months then I had the mc) and I cannot bear the thought of SPD again.

Smudge - glad Jack is doing well, B loves her walker too hasn't quite got the hang of moving it yet but we have carpet and it's easier on hard floors.

Have a terrible migraine shouldn't be on the pc been in bed all morning and have sent DP out for some Migraleve and he has taken the older 2 with him, probably not supposed to take Migraleve but they are just paracetamol, codeine and an anti-emetic which is badly needed as am feeling so sick.

OP posts:
Poledra · 02/01/2009 12:35

OK, SK, tell me to bugger off and stop being an interfering old mare, but are you and DP OK? I seem to remember things were stressed between you before Christmas. D'you want to talk about it?

sweetkitty · 02/01/2009 14:02

Just found Bethany's first tooth 13 days before her 6 month birthday so younger than her two sisters.

Have bought some Nelson's "Teetha" powders on the recommendation of some other MNers, they are homeopathic remedies for teething pain and general grumpiness, will keep you posted on how I think they work.

Poledra - thanks for thinking of me, things are still a bit up in the air, too long and boring a story to go into. I have always had migraines, the triggers are lack of sleep (!), any time I cry or get very emotional or stressed and sometines are for no reason whatsoever.

OP posts:
Poledra · 02/01/2009 14:46

Well done Bethany on the tooth. We are at the other end of the milk teeth scale - DD1 has got her first wobbly tooth 23 days before her fifth birthday . She was early with her teeth (4 before she was 6 months old) so I assume that's why they're getting loose so early. We're seeing the dentist next week so I'll make sure it's all according to plan then.

It's all making me feel blue though - she has a wobbly tooth, I started weaning O yesterday (she looooves food, BTW!) - why do my babies want to grow up so fast??

SK, look after yourself. Migraines really are the pits.

sweetkitty · 02/01/2009 15:07

Oh no wobbly teeth poor DD1

I know what you mean my babies are growing far too fast as well, wish they would slow down

Happy New Year everyone!

Hope you all had a grand time over the festive period. I am feeling like a right fat pie and must get back to some kind of routine/diet/exercise. Still got another 1.5 stone to lose and a lot of toning up to do

We had a lovely Christmas - DD got a cooker which she adores and is having a whale of a time dancing around the conservatory singing to her nursery rhyme cd. Meanwhile at ridiculous am my head is whirring with ' Hot cross buns, hot cross buns', ' Do you know the muffin man, the muffin man, the muffin man?' etc etc Arggg! Sleep damnit!

Put Calvin in his own room last night and DH and I had to share a bed together - having not done so regularly for 3 years = no sleep and bringing C into bed at 2am Hence I am shattered today. Fingers x he is a bit more settled tonight - he is a wee softie and loves his Mammy

Yep I think we are all a bit concerned about BEBE - last she posted she was going for a scan - I do hope she is okay!!!

DISNEY - xxx to you and all yours and sending Samuel loads of healing/healthy/happy vibes - if we all keep in him in our hearts and minds then that will travel across the cosmos and help his wee heart too.xx

SK - sorry to hear you and your DH are not getting on just now - how are you feeling re your anxiety/depression? Did you go chat to your GP at all? Don't wnat to butt my rather pointy snozz in but remember if you were advising a friend you would probably say that when you are suffering from depression it blows things out of 'normality'. Has your DH mentioned you being out of sorts type thing? just tell me to *eck off and mind my own - I won;t be offended
Incidently totally lost track of our DC weeks now - what are they 25 weeks now?

No teeth here, no rolling either. He can roll over from front to back if he really tries but he he prefers to wriggle and cry for me to help him! I had to buy him 12 -18 month babygrows in the sales - honestly he is such a long boy he looks about 1 year!
He absolutley adores his door bouncer now and jumps about smiling like a wee mad person!!

Well must be off. I do hope you are all well and life will be fab for all of us this year. I think it would be good for us if we typed out our wishes for the year then we have them 'out there' as it were and we can also look back and laugh or congratulate ourselves

*I wish for this year to bring for me:
To lose completely my anxiety and neurosis,
to become healthy, toned and slimmer.*For my family:
Health, happiness and security.

For all of you:
Health, happiness and security.
For the world in general:
Tolerance, love and healing.

I sound like a pagent contestant

xxxxxx

MinnieMummy · 02/01/2009 19:45

Aw Rumpel I think they are lovely wishes.

For me:

  • to get fit (ie being able to run for 30 mins) again
  • to get more organised
  • to decide definitely one way or another if we're going to have another (IF we do, I'm thinking June 09 which would mean getting pg Sep this year, yikes, maybe not then!!)
  • maybe to attempt some writing, even if it's just for me
  • maybe take more steps to seeing clients at home

For my fam:

  • ds to keep increasing in confidence
  • P to walk!
  • DH to find a job/career that he actually wants to do

For everyone:

  • to keep being as lovely and supportive on this thread as you always are... even if I am rubbish at coming on here and keeping up to date
NotanOtter · 02/01/2009 22:45

Rumple you sound just LOVELY!

Disney thinking of you and little Samuel x

Smudge hope everything ok with dp

Bebe hope scan went well

sk hope you are feeling better

everyone else thinking of you and your little loves - its a gorgeous age!

pigleypudding · 02/01/2009 23:10

Here's mine:

For me:
Lose weight, tone up and exercise more-- Same as every year!!
Possibly TTc number 2

For Family:
All be happy and Healthy
Move into a bigger Family house with another bedroom for DC2
Watch Abigail grow into a confident and happy little toddler.

For everyone:
To be happy and healthy
Have lots more lo's!

SK- on Bethanys tooth. I think Abigail has one at the top about to top through and her cheeks have been bright red for days.

Poledra- I know what you mean about our babies growing up so quickly! Everytime Abigail does something new I think that.

Abigail has developed a very cute little laugh now and is constantly giggling at everything! Its very funny!

oh yeah... few questions...

Anyone elses hair falling out in hand fulls? Its worse now than ever! Prob more to do with my appalling diet lately!

Anyone elses LO still waking at night? We are up 2/3 times a night... usually about 3/4 hour intervals. I dont mind too much as she usually goes off after pretty well but it seems to be that shes the only child of her age still not sleeping through the night.

Debating whether to try replacing her night feeds with a drink of cool boiled water as she never drinks much milk and its almost become more of a habit. Read that the therory is they stop waking after a few nights as its only water.
What do you experienced mummys think?

NotanOtter · 02/01/2009 23:20

pigley - yes my hair is shedding by he wigful!

no N does not wake at night and we have just dropped dream feed (phew) so goes 8 till8

i do believe night waking is habit formed (? bad english)
My Nanny used to say that in her day ( her children were 1940's) they used to wrap a bottle of hot water in a terry nappy and put it at the foot of the cot. if the baby woke it got some water

'the babies soon stopped waking'

hope that helps

you could try letting her cry through the first one and getting up to her the second time.... not everyone agrees with that though !

NotanOtter · 02/01/2009 23:21

loving all the resolutions btw

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 03/01/2009 08:26

pigley - no harm in trying the water - she obv isn't particularly hungry if she only wants a couple of ozs. Also my hair seems to have thinned out although I haven't noticed it falling out. My hair is pretty fine anyway - I'm sure it would be more noticeable with a thick healthy mane like yours.

SK - congrats on a tooth - hoorah! I'm sure Poppy will get one soon ...

sweetkitty · 03/01/2009 08:58

hi ladies feeling a little better today but still quite rough not helped by a rubbish sleep courtesty of B, she must have been up about 5 times last night I know she is teething but one time she just wouldn't resettle and she's all over the bed kicking you too. I love cosleeping but may have to rethink things.

pigley - I'm surprised I have any hair left, I had to defuzz my brush again yesterday and the Dyson seems full of my hair. With it being long and blonde I hope it's just more noticable (spp?) but it's everywhere.

Rumpel - 25 weeks this Tuesday coming Bethany had a bit or carrot last night, I know I said I was going to do BLWing and all that but am using a spoon for now although giving her bits to play with on her highchair too, a sort of mixed approach, I know purist BLWers would be but we will probably switch to BLWing in a few weeks. I just put the carrot through the potato ricer so it was still a wee bit lumpy too but she did like it. It's more about getting used to the texture of food in her mouth.

How's C doing in his own room?

Your NYR's sound lovely erm what would I wish for:

  • DP to keep his job
  • everyone I know and love to remain her for the next year
  • DD1 to start school and be happy there
  • don't need to lose weight but need to tone up big time
  • to be less anxious
  • to get out a bit more
  • to have more patience with the DDs
  • and of course for everyone on here and their LOs to be healthy and happy and a veru special wish for baby Samuel to fight whatever is put in his way

Will weigh and measure B properly on her 6 month birthday as haven't a clue waht she weighs, it's funny I suspect it's more than DD1 did but DD1 had really chubby cheeks, B doesn't have the chubbiness which makes he look smaller than she is, have to sort out 6-9 month babygros too.

Pigley - you are not alone! A was waking 2/3 times a night as well and then about 3 nights ago I thought blow this for a game of soldiers when he woke at 1:30am despite having 200ml of formula at 11pm. I went in tried to give him cold formula but he wasn't having any of it he wanted BREAST so he couldn't be really hungry or he would have formula so just sat on a chair and cuddled him for about 10 minutes whilst he BAWLED his eyes out and then he fell fast asleep!
Last 2 nights, no 1:30am waking. He still wakes at 4am but one step at a time!
*fingers crossed this sticks.
I reckon cold water would have the same response as cold formula (and be cheaper!) so it's worth a try Pigley. Good Luck.

I have started BLW with A and he LOVES it, the bonus for me is that I get to eat my meal in peace as he is so busy trying to get food into his mouth. Have put some new photos on profile.

My DH and I are thinking about TTC again in June. I think I maybe bonkers.

Sorry I don't post on this thread very much, I do read it daily but there is so much going on in the rest of the site!

Disney. My thoughts are with both you and Sam, I don't know where you get your strength from but I am sure Sam is comforted by it.

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 03/01/2009 11:23

Nice pics Libra - A looks cute! I'm keeping a photo diary of Poppy's blw on facebook cos I love the expression she makes when presented with exciting new foods!

Poledra · 03/01/2009 12:52

"Anyone elses LO still waking at night? We are up 2/3 times a night... usually about 3/4 hour intervals. I dont mind too much as she usually goes off after pretty well but it seems to be that shes the only child of her age still not sleeping through the night." I am still up 3 or 4 times a night with O. I did the water-instead-of-milk thing with the other 2 at abot this age and it did work. However, it was summertime when they were each this age and I didn't mind getting up to resettle them in their cot. It's too fecking cold in my house through the night at the moment.

Am seriously pissed off with DH - poor little lamb 'didn't sleep well last night' so he stayed in bed till gone 10.30 this morning. Well excuse me, I haven't slept well since ooooh about 18th July and I still have to get up in the morning. Plus, when O woke for a feed at one point he grumbled 'I haven't been to sleep yet'. Funny that, you were snoring when I got up to see to DD2 who had a mightmare 10 minutes ago (and was probably the cause of O waking). He is such a lazy git at times.

Rant over - am still considering my resolutions, so will post them later.

minipinkscottish · 03/01/2009 13:09

poledra Abbie was a fantastic sleeper and was sleeping through from about 6 weeks....not any more we are up at least once but usually twice. It all began with upper respiritory thing and then she's had chest inf....so now in a rut...although actually I don't mind because with all my other dcs there never seems enough time in the day for all the lovely cuddles...night time cuddles are so special and it never lasts...doesn't seem that long ago that it was ds(now 16) who was up in the night

We can all sleep when they are grown.....believe me it wont be lng

mcchesers · 03/01/2009 16:05

Morning ladies. I'm still in Texas for another couple of days. DH and I have been dealing with a baby that is very happy during the day and not so happy at night. Waking 2/3 times. Is this a 6 month growth spurt? Lord have mercy!

A was a hit with all the family over Christmas, well actually with everyone he met. He's a very happy smiley baby. Holiday, however, I would not call it. We're staying at my sister's and she is going through menapause. So we're walking around on eggshells when she's around. It's basically been like the weekend routine is back home, wake, feed, clean, wash no rest for the wicked. We finally decided to stay in a hotel tomorrow night before our flight so we can actually relax and order in.

Still waiting to hear what the plans are for DH's work situation. I think we're still getting relo'd. still thinking about resolutions.

Disney - hugs to you and Samuel.
SK - hope you are feeling better.

Aren't we due another hormone drop at 6 months? I have been a right arse lately

hugs to mummies and babies!!

ponto · 03/01/2009 19:44

Hi all, have not posted for ages, but have been reading. I'm with pigley, poledra and mcchesers on the waking baby front. Bryony wakes loads at the moment, she now wakes around 10.30pm, when she used to sleep until at least 1am before waking the first time. I feed her and put her back down but she's up again 2-3 hours later, and I'm sure she can't be hungry as she goes 3-4 hours quite happily during the day. Last night I didn't feed her the second time she woke and she went back to sleep for another 3 hours, but it took me nearly an hour to settle her, so in the end I felt it would have been easier just to feed her. I might have a go with a bottle of water, but she's not used to a bottle so it may just upset her. I just keep reminding myself that this stage will pass and trying to have a nap during the day whenever I get a chance.

Started weaning last week, as she was so desperate for food that she grabbed a cheese sandwich off dh's plate! So far she's had a bit of fruit puree, rice pudding, some crusts of bread and some rice cakes. I've not been very organised as we were staying with my mum, so she's just had whatever was around. I'm like you, sweetkitty, doing a mixture of BLW and purees.

Anyone else's LO had a problem with constipation after eating bananas? Bryony usually has at least 3 dirty nappies a day, but had none at all for 2 days after eating half a banana! I was getting quite worried but normal service has now been resumed! Oddly, now she's on solids, I even felt a bit sad that there would be no more amazing explosive yellow poos. My baby is growing up too fast

Disney, I hope Sam is improving now. He looks so cute in your Facebook pictures. Thinking of you.

shortshafe · 03/01/2009 23:06

Hi all,

SK - boots own brand teething powders are cheaper than Nelsons, and IME just a good. It feels like I has been teething forever - there's been 2 little sharp bits poking through for weeks, poor little soul.

I is up in the night often too, not for food - we dreamfeed at 11pm and he doesn't get boob till 7ish. He wakes 2/3/4 times and needs a bit of reassurance to get back to sleep - no cuddles unless really upset though, we do a bit of shush/pat type thing. It's been worse lately as he has a stinking cold - doc gave him an inhaler yesterday as he was struggling to breathe - he HATES the mask thing you have to use it with.

we've started weaning with some 'mush' carrot, butternut squash, broccoli, potato, apple, pear, banana. He loves chewing stuff and is always grabbing for food from our plates - toast has been fave so far I think.

I go back to work on 20th Jan - scary scary stuff.

Was thinking about Bebe too, wonder how her arm is?

Disney, as always, am thinking about you and Sam.

minipink, NAO, SK - was going from 2 dc to 3 dc more or less difficult than 1-2?? I found 0-1 hard work, but 1-2 has been really quite lovely....tempted by a 3rd !!

DonutMum · 04/01/2009 06:28

Hi All, I second shortsafe's recommendation on the boots own brand teething powders.

L doing okay on the weaning. Had cereal this morning and will give him peaches and rice for lunch and courgette for tea. He's sleeping through the night 6-6 at last! This is good as the the other two are driving me crazy! Back to school today so fingers crossed all will calm down.

Ponto, think that bananas can slow the digestive system down. Anyone else heard that?

My mum is ill, though. Told me she has had a mini stroke . I want her to get a second opinion, though, as here GP thought it was a detached retina (she has a small bleed behind her left eye. Having said that, her blood pressure was 200/85!Very worried either way. She's only 60.

Bebe, hope you're okay. Disney, thoughts for you and Sam.

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 04/01/2009 13:49

Hi all, just back from Austria, and had such a fab time, I could go on for ages about it. Highlights were, moon lit sleigh ride, fireworks and lantern parade on new years day, (Left resort marching behind a drummer up to nursery slopes where 100 ski instructors came down mountain with lanterns, and a giant lit 2009 on the slopes, with the best fire works I have ever seen. Was very emotional!) it was such a fab holiday.... DS1 loved the snow.

I hope everyone else is OK?

Disney How's Sam?

Bebe Hows your arm?

SK How are things in general???

Sam starts nursery tomorrow Just for 1/2 a day, for 3 weeks to settle in before I go back to work....

pigleypudding · 04/01/2009 18:10

Glad im not the only one with a night waker then!
DH and I have said we are going to give the water a try but not at the mo. The past few days Abigail has been a nightmare wit her feeding again. She seems to take about 3ozs then just stop and refuse any more.
At night she only takes about an Oz at a time but will then wake about an hour later hungry again.. Its a nightmare!
Anway.. any milk she takes at night at the mo is good so dont wanna replace it with water yet untill shes taking better amounts during the day.
Thanks for your help/advice though Girlies

Mcchesers- Hope your enjoying Texas

Donut - Sorry to hear about your mum. We too had bad news yesterday, My great Uncle died during the early hours. He was elderly and already in a hospice so not a great shock but still not a great way to start the year

Jodie- Austria sounds fab!Glad you had a good time. I havent been skiing since i was a teenager.. Dont think I could cope with the cold now-- I'm a wimp!

TINSELJuice · 04/01/2009 19:02

hi all

donut - so sorry to hear about your mum. hope its all okay

pigley - also sorry about your uncle.

we are back in denmark finally and i haaaate january here! elodie is now properly in her own room but has been waking once in the night since we were in london and is also totally re-addicted to the dummy!!!! after all my hard work.

i have to go cold turkey but its just so easy. just pop it in and she is away . . .

today i started GF's three meals a day and she also had a massive bottle of hipp formula tonight so maybe she will sleep better tonight..

aaargh - its a constantly moving target isn't it?

i must say though, this is such a great age. she is done with the cackling for now and has a real shriek followed by proper babbling with cheeks going up and down. her foot grabbing is so cute and she is really expressive with her whole body. so much fun!

my new year's resolutions:

tone up and get down to fighting weight for when i go back to work in April

exercise every day

meal plan to save money

go to an art exhibition or something cultural every week

stop buying high-street tat

finish masters thesis

start my little book project

sk - hope your migraine went. my dh gets them too, i really sympathise.

I have been sorting out loads of clothes and stuff to be sold/go to the charity shop today. i have a bit wardrobe and a rail of clothes and since i got pregnant have only used about half the rail. i had a good sort out and got rid of loads of my pointless vintage cocktail dresses and the like. feels very therapeutic to declutter a bit.

hope all is well with your little ones . . .
