Evening All,

NAO - think my DH would disagree with you there! God I get the most awful PMT and horrid periods now since having the kids. I've been a right mawdy cow the last few days That is probably my favourite thing about pregnancy - no periods

JODIE -sounds lovely - was it sunny too?

DONUT - it is scary. Was it a transient aeschemic attack she had (TIA)? The blood pressure thing probably had alot to do with it. Is she on meds at all? Don't know if you remember me mentioning a while ago that my Mum was having investigations (due to my Dad's and my interference as she stickes her head in the sand)? Anway she is on high BP meds, statins (for cholesterol), diuretics and a soluble aspirin a day and it has made a world of difference - she is so much better now. She is 57 this year. It is awful when you are far away and there is worry at home - hopefully she'll be okay and they'll sort out her meds and do some scane etc. (((())))hugs

SHORTSHAFE- there was a thread about going form 2-3 a while ago - something I wondered too. I still would quite like another (I must be mad) I just don't feel that we are complete yet IYKWIM? But I am really scared too - about coping with 2 younguns when feeling hellish whilst pg, about what if I really regret it afterwards? 3 makes it more difficult for cars, holidays, babysitters etc etc. Advice please ladies

MCCHEESERS - is it lovely and sunny over yonder? really brrr here -5 for the last few days but nice and sunny and beautiful starry starry nights.

I used to live in the Shetland Isles and spent ages sitting on the front doorstep just gazing up at the stars - they were so clear there you felt that you could just reach up and pluck them out the sky. Used to see the Aurora Borealis too. I'd love a big telescope - anyone got one?

Hope the rest of you ladies are well.

Hus to Sam et alxxxx

Nite all

Rumpel · 04/01/2009 19:20

OOOOOO TJUICE what are you going to write about? INWYM about the dummy - spend a lot of my night on dummy retrieval service - it's great when they can shove it back in themselves

I always fancied writing a kids book with illustrations - I'll do it one day

Calvin eats quite a lot in one sitting he usually has banana porridge, squashed bananas or rice, today he got pureed carrot, parsnip, ginger, potato and onion soup - he scoffed it all up.

Rumpel · 04/01/2009 19:21

The bananas constipation thing - think it depends on your DC - Calvin is fine with it and so was DD.

cass66 · 04/01/2009 20:20

Hi girls. Happy New Year etc.

Actually, I'm quite glad to see the back of xmas. too much excitment and overstimulated kids. too much food and drink. too much weight put on. At least tomorrow I'll have SIX whole hours without any bickering/shouting/fighting. But Ed will miss his sisters. I'll probably end up shouting and fighting with him!!!

He is also not sleeping well. wakes once or twice a night. sometimes he settles himself if we leave him for 5 mins or so, usually he gets a boob stuck in his mouth, as it's the only way I know to settle him. Am also worried as I start back a work in feb and need to be mentally on the ball.

I also can't seem to fill him up. He is on 3 meals a day (but only veg/fruit/rice with a small amount of formula to mix) AND still has 6-7 breastfeeds a day too. I thought he might have dropped a few feeds when he started on food, but oh no. He is huge. Will get him weighed this week or next.

Got the girls early to bed, think I will do the same tonight. Cass

sweetkitty · 04/01/2009 20:29

Evening all feeling much better today even went out to feed the ducks on the frozen loch. Have been so grumpy as well the past few days think it's the constant banging headache. All back to normal tomorrow nursery runs aplenty.

Booked a week at Centerparcs in May for us all, looking forward to that, never been before am sure the DDs will love it.

So we now have 2 teeth through, bottom middles, been put to good use today she had some bread crusts to gum on and sooked a banana for lunch and some porridge and EBM for dinner, she's quite funny puts her head forward and sucks it off the spoon. New teeth sore on the old nipples though.

Sleep still hit and miss she can only go 3 hours at a stretch, still only young plenty of time later to sort it out. The other two are sleeping better so thats a plus.

Rumpel and Donut - I would agree going from 1-2 is harder than 2-3 going from 0-1 still the hardest. Despite it all I love having 3.

Tjuice - aww won't be long til Spring, I have been having huge clearouts too did the kitchen yesterday just mine and the DDs clothes now, hope Elodie has a good night for you x

pigley - so sorry to hear about your uncle

Jodie - glad you had a lovely holiday sounds divine

Donut - so sorry to hear about your mum too. Have heard that bananas can cause constipation too, TBH I have been taking it very easy with B after what happened with DD2 and her constipation

shortshafe - thanks for the tip will check out the Boots own label teething powders, I sent DP you see and he would just buy exactly what I asked for but they were £4 I think the upper fronts won't be long either

ponto - good to hear from you glad weaning is going well, I do think any food can make them go a bit strange must take a bit of getting used to after just milk for months, I too miss those yellow nappies

mcchesers - huge wave across the pond, sorry to hear your trip isn't exactly as you would have hoped but glad A is a hit

minipink - I agree they grow up far too fast and my oldest is only 4 1/2, IMHO I think theres too much pressure put on babies to sleep through, in other countries they are not expected to do 7-7 or whatever, some do (lucky parents) but a lot don't, it's an evolution thing they have small tummies and waking for regular feeding makes sure Mummy has enough milk and that she's still there and they are still safe IYSWIM. I went into no3 not expecting her to sleep through and she hasn't right off the soapbox now sorry

Huge post and x-posted with Cass - won't be long until you can start adding more cereals and getting some protein into them too

Hello all! Have just popped on here for first time in ages, read back a few pages, thought I'd catch up!!

Good to hear everyone's news - these babies are growing up so quick aren't they.

Disney - sending you and Samuel special thoughts and love. I do think of you often even though not on here much (and peek at you on Facebook too!) Stay strong. xxx

We had lovely Xmas and New Year - mixture of time with family and with friends, good food, nice walks with neighbours on Boxing Day and good friends on New Years Day, seeing in 2009 with some 'baby friends'. I have had a good rest with DH home and not much to do - feeling lots better in myself although chronic pain still bad.

Rumpel - SHetland stars sound lovely - I love stargazing and I have always wanted to see the northern lights.
Have started BLW since New Years Eve! So far F has had carrot, sweet potato, banana, roast parsnip and fed herself yoghurt from the back of a spoon! She is so clever! And realised from the poo nappy today (first for few days) that a lot more food than I thought had been going down.

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 04/01/2009 21:32

Having one baby is a shock to the system, 1 to 2 is fine in comparison. Going from 2 to 3 dc has been pretty easy ime. The hardest thing is getting enough rest / sleep as the older dc don't let you lie in or nap in the day time, and you are likely to have school runs to fit in! The answer is going to bed early!
You do need a bigger car - one that will fit 3 car seats across the back. That's why there are so many xsaras and scenics about. You also need to consider the space you have in your house for an extra person and all their stuff. We had to lose our spare bedroom (3 bed house - 2 ds share.)
I say if you fancy 3 then go for it!!

Donutmum - hope your mum gets better soon x Must be hard being so far away.

Jodie - Austria sounds lovely
Can't believe you (and others) are going back to work soon.
Tjuice - re dummy - I never managed to go get rid of it when the ds were babies, although I was strict about only having it at sleep time from about 6 mths. With both DS I took it away on their 2nd birthday, and had no problems.

PJR - I am amazed how well Poppy is getting the blw - we started a few days before Christmas and now she is very enthusiastic. Not sure what goes in, but I am finding less in the highchair. The poos are getting thicker so can't be doing too bad. Have to say I am being a bit purist about it and not feeding her at all. I do give her a pre loaded spoon, and I do pass her bits she can't quite pick up by herself. It is fab to be able to completely bypass the baby food aisle in the supermarket (also bypass the nappy aisle as we use cloth!)

Poppy has been pretty grumpy last few days - def teething - and her sleeping is unpredictable, wakes up to twice a night, but I just shove a boob in and she goes back off. Her new hobby is blowing raspberries - the 2 ds think it's hilarious!

Can't wait til Tuesday when school starts back; fed up of holidays!

cass66 · 04/01/2009 21:39

On the subject of 2 to 3 - I have found it harder to go from 2-3 than 1-2, I think. Probably because of the age difference, DD2 is 4 years older than Ed, and I had totally forgotten (or was in denial) about what having a newborn was like. Saying that though, it is good to only have one in nappies and have the girls able to amuse themselves most of the time and get themselves drinks etc.

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 04/01/2009 21:48

Hi all,

BLW is going well here too. I agree Isaidno It's great not to have to think about pureeing a load of veg and freezing it and walking past the jars in the supermarket. On holiday it was fab, Sam has reached 26 weeks now so we could feed him whatever, He had toast and apple for breakfast, Bits of whatever we had and a biscotti rusk thing for lunch same for tea, it was fab not to have to get someone to heat anything up for me and not to carry around a load of paraphanalia (sp?) He's still on 6 6oz bottles a day though, but I'm sure this will stop in time!

Tjuice Don't sweat it about the dummy, I know it's hard ATM, but it won't be long before she can do it herself and only another 18ish months before she can be reasoned with to leave it for the fairies!!!

Donut Sorry about your mum's poor health. Hope she's better soon and the doctors will take good care of her.

Pigley Surprisingly it wasn't that cold, (OK it was -3 most days) But as long as you have the right clothes it was OK, it was a different kind of cold to here, and it was sunny, infact I felt colder today at home than I've felt all week!

Smudge hope you are OK? How's you and DH now??

Sorry if I've missed anyone, but I;m shattered, DS1 taken forever to get to sleep, he's been spoilt rotten since christmas Day (PIL and BIL and his GF came to Austria too) So he's abit out of sorts!!!

sweetkitty · 04/01/2009 22:41

Jodie - had a nose at your Austria pics they are fab beautiful place loved the pics of the P&T in the snow with the buggysnuggle and the DSs very cute.

I agree with the lack of puree-ing, it's fab, I love it now that B is up around the dinner table really joining in, she loves her highchair, DP was sitting holding her tonight she was whinging so he put her in the highchair and she was fine smiling away, strange child, very non cuddly like DD2.

OP posts:
TINSELJuice · 05/01/2009 12:44

hey all. its freezing but beautiful and clear here today. i don't mind it cold if the sun is shining.

well, i am now wondering if doing finger foods and purees is a bit confusing for babies? elodie had porridge for breakfast helped by me but she doesn't open her mouth like a bird. i just hold the spoon and she puts it in. then lunch was steamed carrot sticks and toasted ryebread with butter and cream cheese and she really enjoyed it that all on her own.

tomorrow i am going to give her big chicken strips but wondering how I should cook them? - can i just grill them or fry them? its so weird making food with no seasoning . . .

re. dummies, yeah, maybe you guys are right about the dummy and not sweating it. i think she can keep it in quite well now. the one night waking seems to be for a feed and then she goes back down. her dexterity is improving all the time so she will be able to put it in herself soon but aren't dummies bad in other ways?

they are really relaxed about dummies here and have them until about 4 or something. then they put them under a dummy tree in the park.

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 05/01/2009 12:55

Tjuice - grill or fry the chicken will be fine, or you could poach them in some water. The poaching makes them softer, but the grilling might be easier for her to hold as the outside will be firmer.

ponto · 05/01/2009 18:57

I'm in two minds about the BLW as Bryony struggles to get much down if she just feeds herself, but will take quite a lot if I feed her from a spoon. I have to admit I'm keen for her to fill up a bit to see if it helps with night wakings, but she's still having 2 feeds anight at the moment.

How much daytime sleep do your LOs have? Bryony sleeps 20 mins in the morning, maybe 45 mins at lunchtime and another 15 mins in the afternoon, which doesn't seem like much to me, I'm sure the other 2 had a much longer lunchtime nap. Occasionally she'll fall asleep in her pushchair or carseat and will then sleep for a couple of hours, but will never do that in her cot during the day. Any suggestions as to what's going on??

Jodie, glad you had a good holiday.

Re going from 2-3 dcs, I've found it a bit easier than from 1-2, but it is difficult coping with the school run and after school activities. I'm very glad we did have a 3rd though, as I just had that feeling that the family wasn't complete, but now it definitely is! Have had my Mirena coil fitted and it's ace, a bit of light bleeding to start with and now pretty much nothing. The fitting was much better than I'd feared too. If any of you are considering it I'd say go for it!

Isaidno · 05/01/2009 19:08

Poppy tends to have 2 daytime naps of about 45 min each. Sometimes she will nap for up to 1 and a half hours, but not very often. I am hoping she will soon start having just one long nap.

MinnieMummy · 05/01/2009 19:42

I saw the GP this afternoon as I've somehow managed to get mastitis and got a prescription - said I think it's because I've started to wean P and so she's dropped a feed but that I was wanting to do BLW - and the GP had never heard of it ! It's still another 3 weeks until she's 26 weeks though, seems a long time to wait... impatient me though, I did shove a bit of dry toast in her hand tonight but she just pushed it back out of her mouth... I guess she's not ready, but when she sees DS eating she starts opening her mouth likes she wants some too!

P sleeps about 2hrs in the afternoon at the moment (yey!), sometimes a nap in the morning as well. Somehow her nap coincides with DS's, which makes life easier...

Going from 1 to 2 seemed like a no-brainer to me but 2 to 3 there are so many other things to think about.. we'd need to get a bigger car (kind of hate those mummy-mobiles) plus our house is a converted bungalow (nicer than it sounds) so we only have 2 upstairs bedrooms. P and DS will have to share anyway (to my mother's horror ) but if we had a third then either one would have to go downstairs (and I think they'd both be too little) or we'd have to move. Hmmmmm!

shortshafe · 05/01/2009 21:22

MinnieMummy - for you and the mastitis, I had it early on and it's awful - tablets work quickly though so hopefully you'll feel better soon.

The practicalities of 3 dc's put me off - bigger car, losing spare room, (DS will share with DD when I kick him out of our room) holidays, babysitters etc. being harder to find, BUT I just don't feel finished - I always wanted 3 and 3 feels 'right'. It's good to hear some of you saying that you feel 'finished', I was worried that the 'finished' feeling didn't exist!!

We've agreed we'll make a decision on number 3 sometime in 2010, so no pressure just yet!

Isaac naps for about an hour in the morning, and then 1-2 hours in the afternoon.

TJuice - both mine have dummies, DD only had it for sleep times from about 8 months ish and it's great cause it means she settles to sleep wonderfully! I plan on restricting DS' to sleep time only from 8 months ish too.

JODIE - how was Sam's first day at nursery?

Libralovesbiscuits1975 · 05/01/2009 22:01

Jodie - How did nursery go? I start work at the beginning of Feb as well and A starts nursery next Monday

Pigley - sorry to hear about your uncle.

TJuice - what is your book project? So agtee about this being a great age, I have to say I am only just (in the last month) starting to enjoy mummyhood.

Isaidkissmeunderthemisteltoe - I am trying to be a purist as well, but we had our first gagging episode at lunchtime which made me go a little white!

ponto - A is a nightmare about sleeping during the day and will only nap in his buggy whilst I am walking or on me post feed. He probably gets 2 30 minute naps max a day. If you manage to Bryony to go longer please let me know how you do it!

minnie - hope the mastitis clears up soon.

Made the decision that I am going to continue to try and breastfeed even when back at work (only doing 3 days a week) *cross fingers my supply will be ok.

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 05/01/2009 22:25

Hi, Just a quick one, Sam got on fine at nursery, was really tired when I picked him up at 1pm and DS1 was ever so excited that Sam had stayed! Thanks for asking girlies!

The Staff at the nursery had never seen a BLW baby, so they were amazed that he was eating finger food, and it was so alien to them that they couldn't work out what he could eat, He ate 1 finger of toast at breakfast and 2 slice of apple at lunch and a biscotti for a mid morning snack! I'm being a ourist too (well, not me, Sam is) he just won;t take anything on a spoon, I tried him with some porridge the other day and he wasn't having any of it!

Gotta go to bed now, will catch up tomorrow libra nice to see you again!

sweetkitty · 05/01/2009 22:39

Evening all feeling a bit tonight I think it's a combination od DP going back to work and the realisation of groundhog day yet again. Sometimes I feel my life is just a merry-go-round of nursery runs-housework-feeding-making lunch/dinner-more hosuework and picking countless crap off the floor, sorry having a moan.

TBH I probably would like a PT job maybe 2 days a week but it's just not feasible, nursery for 3 is too much adn to be blunt I have completely screwed up my career so the money I would make wouldn't even come close to covering childcare so SAHM-dom it is.

Right anyway moan over

I am glad it's not just me having trouble with daytime naps, today B slept for about 20 mins in the pram and about 20 mins downstairs after her 2pm feed. I do remember the other two once they were about a year in cots they would go up about 2pm and have a good 1 1/2hours. We have the travel cot downstairs but sometimes I think it's too noisy for her, only other place is her cot which needs pillows to barricade her in and I can't shut the door in that room as the cats scratch up the carpet.

Tonight I put her down at just gone 8 with a feed and once she had finished put her in her cot, almost at once she woke up and screamed for 30 mins even though we never left her and had to put her back on the boob to calm her down.

Libra1975 - well done on agreeing to BF and work, are you going to pump at work or just feed him whilst you are with him IYSWIM, I am sure theres quite a few on MN who have successfully done it might be worth a look at archives get a few tips

shortshafe - I always knew I would have 3, it always seemed as though someone was missing although now I would like another but think my head will rule my heart this time. The mum bus is a negative thats for sure. Once DD3 is kicked out DD1 and 2 will share a room with bunk beds.

minniemummy - ouch on the mastitis hope the tablets sort you out, I remember when DD1 and 2's naps used to be at the same time, ah bliss. It's so funny how quickly B has cottoned onto highchair = food she looks for it coming. today she gummed on some toast for lunch and had some sweet potato for dinner, I load up the spoon and hold it in front of her and she launches herself at it and sucks the food off the spoon. Will probably switch to BLWing a a few weeks or if she's anything like my other two it won't be my choice they refused the spoon.

Jodie - how was nursery?

Tjuice - I agree with what the others have said just go with teh flow re the dummy, millions of babies have them no problem and you can go cold turkey when she is older. At least you can tkae the dummy away DD1 is a thumb sucker. I wish B would take a dummy sometimes to comfort her, all she wants is boob.

Right enough waffling for me for one night, brrr it's chilly too

OP posts:
JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 06/01/2009 07:04

Morning.

Whoopee, good night here last night (Well in comparison anyay) Sam super tired and went to bed at 6 with only 1oz, and didn't wake until 5.45!!! DS1 wasn't so bad at getting to sleep, only took 1/2 hour and I sat outside his door reading, I hate it when they get out of normality, it takes an age to get it back! I went to bed at 10.30, so feel OK now!

SK I know how you feel, I weighed up the pro's and cons of staying at home as nursery cost a fortune for the two of them, but I think I'd go mad, Maybe when your DD1 starts school in September you could think about it?

I always said I wanted 3, but now I have 2 I don't know how we'd cope financially and emotionally with 3, we argue all the bloody time at the moment and my patience is running on empty already. So I think it's just 2 boys for me. (I know it sounds awful, but if I could guarantee a girl I might think twice )

Libralovesbiscuits1975 · 06/01/2009 08:31

Jodie a tale or warning, a friend of my DH decided to go for a third after 2 boys and ended up with twin boys ! Glad nursery went well and they were fine with BLW - going to raise it with mine today and see what they say.

SK - I'd imagine the cost of 3 at nursery would make it impossible for most people to return to work. I am lucky in that my DH work has a nursery and it doesn't seem as expensive as others.

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 06/01/2009 08:39

libra A friend of mine wanted a girl after 2 boys and ended up with boy triplets!!!!! OMG, She's decided to stop trying!!!

Libralovesbiscuits1975 · 06/01/2009 08:59

maybe she could find someone to swap with!

cass66 · 06/01/2009 09:29

Hi girls. bloody freezing here, was going to walk to Tescos after dropoff (about 1mile) but thought it was too cold for little Ed. who is now asleep in the kitchen, bit early for him to nap!!

SK - I feel exactly the same, the treadmill goes round an endless cycle doesn't it? My only shining light is I'm back at work in Feb, only 2 days but it will relieve the monotomy and see if any brain cells still work!

Bit worried about Ed and nursery though. he's still having 6 breastfeeds a day, PLUS 3 meals. never was very good at expressing, but would like to continue feeding for a bit longer. might borrow an electric pump, if my friend can find it! But my work days are long, he'll be at nursery from 815 to 530. long time to go without mum! I might see about working 4 half days instead, but then I will spend more time commuting!

I always wanted 3, it took us a while to realise this, but dd2 never felt like my last. however, Ed definatly IS my last. I'm getting too old for this, and I think we only just have enough time between us for the 3 of them.
