Wont it be interesting to look back at the scores when some of you ladies decide to have more babies....do you think the list will be correct???

FrostyTheSnowMin · 08/12/2008 20:33

Hi, is MinnieMummy/Min912 here! It's been aaaages since I was on here, apologies, hope all well (not enough time to read all 27 pages) it's not that I don't care, but we've been away on holiday which was lovely but DS got chicken pox, then Poppy did, then had scare that I may have inadvertently infected my 40-weeks pg friend who didn't think she'd ever had it and neither of us knew how serious it could be, panic panic panic but fortunately she's immune!

Not weaning here yet, I'm trying to hold out til 6mths if poss. Also can't be bothered with all that pureeing.

Congrats to Disney! Exciting news.

Other news, DS has started pre-school playgroup, he's only been 3x but I don't even have to wait with him any more. I do find it odd not knowing what he's been up to though (I'm used to a little diary from the childminder.)

To add myself:

Think my likelihood varies from day to day, depends on sleep etc. I think it will also depend on when P starts walking... if she waits til 16mths like her brother a third will be some time!!

Min - nice to see you again!
Rumpel - you made me laugh with your future description of Calvin - poor lad!

Tjuice - I think you are exactly right in your attitude to parenting; find out various information, then go with the flow and what you feel is right.

Re weaning; with ds1 I made him loads of purees, froze batches of ice cubes, made special dinners out of the Annabel karmel book, gave him lots of things to try, kept it as healthy as poss .... and I've got a 5 year old who hates to try new stuff, would live off pasta and tomato sauce given the chance, has to be bribed to eat veg, is worse with fruit....
With ds2 I mushed up whatever we were having. Result - a much better eater, more inclined to taste new things. Likes many more kinds of fruit and veg.

I think the most important thing is not to rely too heavily on jars (I just used them when out) but to get them having the same meal as you at the same time as you as soon as you can. Lots of people I know found the transition from baby jars to real food very difficult.

Poppy is 25 weeks on Wednesday, so next week I'm going to throw some cooked veg her way and see what happens!!

Where's mama2leah lately??

CilC · 08/12/2008 23:25

I am surprised I was sooo high at -2! More like -50!

Weaning is different with each person and I am finding with each baby. My DD took her time at around 5and a half months, but Rafferty...well he ate an entire bowl of porridge this morning and I had some Ella's puree (pea green) and he would not stop eating it this evening. He also devoured puree carrott I made yesterday. Did not drop much and has the chewing/swallowing action all done. I am amazed! He loves his food!

Agree about using your food and jars. I made sure DD liked both as it gets hard if you like going out a lot to have homemade food to hand. Some of the jar food is very good now so i never felt guilty. But I also enjoy making my own. DD would often have what we had but with pureed bits. ie. spaghetti

I also make rusk biscuits for them - made some today and Raff had a little suck/chew.

I don't eat with DD/DS though - I find 4.45 - 5.00 too early! DH and I have it around 8 when he is home. But then my LO go to bed at 7 on the dot.

Is everyone still sterilising bottles? Never bottle fed last time so was wondering what other's do.

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 09/12/2008 07:24

How do you make rusks cilc?

As for sterilising bottles I have ltd experience but with ds1 I just used to use the dishwasher after 6 mths. The bottle come out all hot and steamy, and I figured I wasn't going to sterilise everything which went in his mouth!

merrykittymas · 09/12/2008 09:14

DD1 has now joined DD2 on the sofa, poor DD2 had a terrible day yesterday, high temperature, sore throat, sore head, she just lay on the sofa all day drifting in and out of sleep, still eating a little bit though and drinking loads. I'm so not used to my DC being ill. Bethany is fine though rolling across the carpet just now.

I had loads planned this week, get a few Christmas bits I had still to get, needed to get a few bits at Asda (I know I hate Asda but closest one by a long mile), tights for the girls parties, I also have a night out on Friday have nothing to wear and no money to buy anything as have spent it all on Christmas also feel that DD1 will be missing out on nursery stuff like rehearsing for her concert. Still what can you do?

Sorry thats enough whinging from me this morning sorry

Tjuice - you asked about the girls well both of mine are really fussy eaters, they never started off that way would eat anything to begin with but now they both have very distinct tastes. DD1 is a complete carnivore, loves roast chicken dinners, hates pasta and pizza, DD2 is more veggie like me won't eat chicken but will eat pasta and pizza, if she like something she will clear her plate, she has some more grown up tastes like pesto and garlic bread. With DD1 I did the whole Annabel Karmel puree ice cube thing but very quickly she didn't wnat spoon fed, DD2 has been BLWed from the off, she had amazing hand eye coordination from the off.

isaidno - I'm sure AK has a homemade rusk recipe in her book, I can post it if you like, I have never sterilised anything everything gets washed in hot soapy water and in the dishwasher. Just read your post re food, my two wouldn't have jars either, I know they have changed now but some I tasted were vile they are all that weird orange colour and all you could taste was cornflour used to bulk it out, I suppose working in the food industry has left me a bit of a lot of foods.

min - hello good to hear from you, about the chicken pox we had it here this time last year too

rumpel - aww poor Calvin bet he grows up a heartbreaker, I haven't a clue what B weighs or the length of her it will be nowhere near her cosmic twin Calvin though!

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 09/12/2008 09:27

SK; sorry to hear your girlies are poorly I just dusted off my AK books but can't find a rusk recipe. If you could post one that would be great.

merrykittymas · 09/12/2008 09:54

isaidno - I think this is the one I was thinking of (my AK only used for fairy cakes these days as well, very dusty)

Home-made Rusks - simply cut a thick (1cm / 1/2 inch) slice of wholemeal (granary or rye) bread into 3 strips. Melt 1/8 teaspoon Marmite in 1 teaspoon boiling water, and brush this evenly over the bread strips. Bake in an oven preheated to 180C/Gas4 for 15 mins. Leave out the marmite if your baby prefers and add a little grated cheese. You cna prepare a store of rusks in advance and keep them in an airtight container for 3-4 days.

Seems a bit of a faff, toast would work just as well, think mine have grown up on toast.

I am so tired today must have been up 20 times last night, I will probably put a nappy on the ceral and milk on B's bum today.

disneystar · 09/12/2008 10:10

hi there ladies
mcchesers have a good safe trip honey and have a fantastic time i sure bet your excited right now
yesterday i booked our flight back home WOOHOO we leave in june to georgia then of to disneyworld orlando them of to miami for some chilled out time
this may seem extreme but we have a very good reasons
we have spoke at length with samuels doctors and surgeons and they are sceduling the op for july his heart just isnt strong enough now as his lungs are filling up with blood he wheezes a lot now
i have a dilemma we dont have to agree to the operation but samuels illness is terminal without the op hel die but we only have a 50 50 chance with the operation, which is why they are letting us go in june then we will come back and samuel will have this operation its a 8 to 10 hour op and the first of many
i may seem happy today but im putting a very brave face on things im so excited to get to take him and his brothers to disneyworld we are doing lots of footage and videos as gently persuaded to do
i cant think of the bad part my heart just breaks and if i cry now im never going to stop i love my baby so so much but im not going to be selfish i dont want him in pain
hes happy right now my little guy but struggles to breath a bit at times
he weighs 14lb and is 67 cms long he was 50 at birth and his head is 43cms which is good as its reliveing pressure on his brain
im not going to be on here as much as tbh i feel a bit jellous that my baby is sick please dont get me wrong im happy all your babies are healthy i never want anyone to go through this
but this thread is making me a bit sad
i will pop in from time to time to see how you guys are doing but im working flat out here and my poor dh is working so hard so we can do this for our family next year
we have 25 weeks till fly an 25 weeks to hope and pray samuels alright

i just need to concentrate on my family right now and anything that makes me sad i have to stay away from i hope you undertand that
xxxx mandy-jane & samuel

Mummywannabe · 09/12/2008 10:32

Think my little one has reflux, seeing health visitor this afternoon.

Thinking of changing his milk to cow and gate comfort or aptimal easy digest to see if this helps, any suggestions

Feeding is becoming such a nightmare, me and him in tears. Have done all the usual advise, propping up etc but only small improvements.

Getting really down about it and could do with some words of wisdom!

TINSELJuice · 09/12/2008 11:39

dear disney

so sorry that you need a little break but totally understand. just know that we are all here for you, whenever you want to pop in and let off some steam, or catch up or whatever.

glad that you have something to look forward to as a family - will be fab.

little samuel - what a trooper. you are in my thoughts. big kisses from auntie trudy xxxxx

CilC · 09/12/2008 11:43

Mummy my LO has reflux...nothing has worked except the osteopath and SMA keep down(name like like that) or Aptmal for hungry babies . It is all trial and error and tbh I think each child has their own remedy. It will get better, just hang in there. ALso found food is helping him.

Disney I am so sorry to read your post.I am not sure if there are any words but do know I am thinking of you all. If there is anything I can do let me know.

Enjoy Disneyworld, have an absolutely fabulous time. Hopefully it will be a lovely time for you all to enjoy and remember.

Rusk recipe from my Grandma. Will post later if anyone interested.

CilC · 09/12/2008 11:44

sorry disney read yyour trip as taking place in jan not june! Great idea to plan a trip something wonderful to look forward to!

bebejones · 09/12/2008 13:35

Just a quickie, have only skimmed posts (I scored 45), got hospital appt, 2nd Feb!!!!!!!!! Really cross! Got to dash!

merrykittymas · 09/12/2008 18:22

bebe - thats for your trapped nerve/arm thing isn't it? 2nd Feb a joke poor you. One of my friends has been having fits and she was waiting for an appt to see a consultant neurologist 8 weeks past and she had another one so her hubby phoned up a private hospital and she had an appt with the same consultant in 3 days hope everything else is ok with you

disney - you poor thing, don't know waht to say, I can't seeing the DDs poorly on the sofa with a temperature so cannot begin to imagine what you are going through but I do know you and Samuel are both fighters and you have the whole of this thread rooting for you both

mummywannabee - no advice re reflux luckily never had a baby with it sorry, hope you get something sorted soon

Both DDs were a bit better today but have tailed off this afternoon waiting for DP to come so I can go get more Calpol, watched DVDs this afternoon and I fell asleep during Monsters Inc in my defence must have been wakened 20 times last night.

Mummywannabe · 09/12/2008 21:23

Thanks very much

health visitor very helpful, seems to think its not true reflux as is gaining weight well but thinks he has some gastric discomfort. Recommended cow and gate comfort for a week to see if improvement is made.

Feel a bit better in myself about things. He also fed well this afternoon which helped. Will see what happens over next week.

Thinking of you disney and little Samuel xx take care xx

weMINKyouamerrychristmUS · 10/12/2008 13:03

Disney we're thinking of you here too. Big hugs to your family, especially you and Sam.

Sorry not posted in a while. not really had a chance to read through properly either although I did do the maths test and scored 32. Isaidno it's really good fun! I was adamant when pregnant that it would be my last baby as I couldn't cope with hyperemesis for a third time but am ashamed to admit that I am now really sad that dh is firm on not wanting more. How fickle am I!

Well Louis is now 22 weeks. He's started on bits and pieces of food- I was so sure I would do BLW this time round but when your baby goes ballistic when he smells food and cries if he sees you eating you kinda get the message that he might like to try a bit... so just a few bits of puree at lunch and sometimes tea too. Tinsel, ds1 was weaned in a fairly simlar fashion to the methods you've mentioned- eg no set pattern just give what they seem to like and is now a fantastic eater. But he was also great at eating when a baby in that he ate quite fast, had a huuuuge appetite and got the hang of eating right from the start (18 weeks - I am ashamed to admit I was bored and so started weaning him early. Feel v about this now. ) Used lots of jars and packets with him as I just wasn't confident enough to do my own, but L is having home made all the way so far. Carrotts green bean potato parsnip pea and cauliflower ready for him in the freezer.

He;s had a shocking cold so sleeping has been tits up for a while, he;s been coughing in the night so much he's been making himself sick a la little britain, i.e. projectile speowing. Seems to have settled into waking just twice in the night now- around 2am and 5am. I feed him at about 10:30/11 when I go to bed. Still a bit of a lump in that he's only rolled over a few times so fairly immobile, only just really worked out that he can reach out for stuff etc. But am just starting to feel the magic I thought was missing from before- he lights up my day with his gorgeous grins and makes my heart melt when I see him smile for his daddy and brother.

Also has a loose pattern during the day- up about 7, nap about 9, nap about 12, nap about 4, bed about 7. Talking of which I can hear him he's just waking from his lunch time nap so will sign off. TTFN x

Just updating the list - I want to copyright my formula if any of this comes true!!

Minkus - you sound happy and well, glad Louis has found his routine Don't feel guilty about early weaning - I admit I weaned ds1 at 16 weeks because I couldn't wait to move on, and ds2 at 21 weeks because I was getting a bit bored. Feel v pleased with myself that Poppy is still exc bf at 25 weeks. I want a badge or something!

Disney - will think of you lots, hope you will keep us updated

CilC - please post granny's rusk recipe!
SK - that AK toast one sounds familiar - I think last time I decided I might as well just give them toast! Hope your girls are back to normal... or perhaps you'd rather they stayed quiet just a little longer

shortshafe · 10/12/2008 23:09

Phew - minus 17! I'd love another, but NOT YET, dd at 2.2 and ds at 20 weeks MORE than enough for me at the mo. My hormones are raging though, AF returned last week, despite bf , and I feel really really when I think about not having a baby in the house anymore! Must get a grip, Isaac will be a baby for months yet!

Isaac's really interested in food now, watches every mouthful you take, tries to grab for things (the mushy peas haven't put him off ).

I'll hold off another couple of weeks then start introducing some regular food, he's had a suck on some banana, a lick of an apple and given some pear a good gumming! I did puree/mush and plenty of finger food with dd, fairly haphazardly as and when we got chance - she eats really well now, will try anything.

I go back to work on 20th Jan, that's less than 6 weeks away!!

DISNEY - we'll miss you, hope you feel you can keep us updated, little Sam will always be in my thoughts.

bebeJINGLEjones · 11/12/2008 12:11

Where is everyone today? P had her 3rd set of jabs this morning and is now napping upstairs in her basket like an angel!

Hand has pretty much lost all feeling. Had blood tests yesterday and get the results next week, they are trying to rule out everything. Will ask bout going private when I get the results, it is getting very hard to pick P up and I nearly dropped her yesterday when she wriggled as I was winding her! Don't think I can wait til Feb! Just so worried I might hurt her coz I cant tell if I have hold of her, DH just doesnt get it and is getting really snappy with me over it....men!

Found out today that my mum has 2 large gall stones so that is a worry too. My grandma had them last year & my great grandma had them when I was little and she is now 103! So I know she will be fine, just worry coz she is on her own & 3 hours away from me!

Anyway am going to enjoy the quiet time while P is asleep....might even scoff a warm mince pie with brandy sauce!!!!

Momma23 · 11/12/2008 14:14

Disney
You do what you feel will make you come through this. I understand 100% where you are coming from. I cannot imagine what you are going through, but i feel you are doing the right thing by getting stuck in and staying positive. Its alot easier to get on with it then feel down and out, even though them days do come too.
Thinking of you both always and do let us know how things are going from time to time.

Have'nt been on in a while girls have me run off my feet!
All are doing great 2 younger girls are over coughs and colds so last night was the first night in a long time all 3 slept through!!!
Is there many of you started solids?

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 11/12/2008 20:06

Hi guys, haven't been around for a while and have just caught up, but am in bed with flu, so brain foggy, so I'll attempt what I can.

Sterilising - DS's were/are bottle fed and I religiosly sterilised their bottles until 12 months, nothing else though (eg spoons, dummies etc) I was just about funny about things that had had milk in them!

Weaning - Was it ISAID that said about getting a badge?? It's a bit like that isn't it!! I weaned DS1 at 16 weeks as he was a hungry little blighter, and now Sam is 24 weeks and he only really gums abit of fruit and veg every now and again, although he cried when I took the apple away from him today!!

Tjuice I weaned DS1 the GF way, so was quite militant about it (although didn't get my knckers in a twist) IYKWIM, he is a fab eater most of the time, just doesn't seem to like meat. I think if you are relaxed about something then baby picks up on it, and if I remember rightly, you are a big foodie (reminds me, we haven't had any mouth watering meals from you for a while!) so I'm sure she won't be fussy.

DS1 been poorly too today done a SK's DD and sulked on the sofa all day, been quite strange, I tried to give him a nap at lunch time and he wasn't having any of it, but at 6ish I changed his nappy on the sofa, went to put the dirty one in the bin, when I came back, he was fast asleep, that is sooo not like him! I just bought soe pj's dowm, changed him and transfered him to bed, he didn't even flinch, poor love (Although it's been nice as I feel pants today, I don't think I could have put up with a 'normal' Oliver today! MIL rang and she said she'll have both boys tomorrow for me, she is an absolute star and I love her!

Right, I'm all tucked up in bed, going to put a movie on and chill as DH is away tonight!

TINSELJuice · 11/12/2008 20:07

we are on the solids now . . .

the poos, man. they are most foul!

big sticky pesto-green nasty one today at wagamamas. totally put me off my fried rice dish.

Elodie discovered cackling today and has done it non-stop. She sounds exactly like that nasty old woman that Catherine Tait does a comedy sketch of.
