Thanks for your input on my AIBU thread ladies. I've decided to come clean and tell them we're going to get the cab to collect us, and make a big thing thing to my mum about the sort of meal we'd love when we get in - give her something else to concentrate on! Not looking forward to it though - she does get offended over odd things

Ds2 had his 3rd lot of jabs yestrday, so he's a bit grumpy today. It's been a really crap day actually - I had a leak in my bathroom ceiling so had the plumbers in. They were here all day so I couldn't put ds2 in his cot (ensuite bathroom) or go out, made a huge mess and didn't clear up, and this is the weirdest thing, my make up bag was open in the bathroom and my powder compact has gone missing from it! It has to have been them as ds1 was at school. The little sponge was still there but the compact was gone. Either one of them broke it and didn't have the nerve to tell me, or there is a Malaysian plumber with very nice matte skin in Singapore right now!

Just wanted to say hello to all the friendly May Mummies, I only ever seem to have time to read, not post. But i'd be too scared to post outside this thread after reading the formula debate and the one that upset mumblesmummy...

We're off visiting today, going to see my parents newly tarmaced drive and fireworks at in laws on the weekend. Must go and pack, far too much stuff for just 4 days!!

DeathByMonkey · 05/11/2008 12:38

Oh yes forgot to say - Well done America!! We are all so grateful to you Go Obama

notsoseriousanymore · 05/11/2008 13:07

Gosh, you know, it IS history in the making... It's less than 50 years since black people didn't even have the right to vote in the US... It seems unbelieveable and it's so good the world has changed in this way. I am so pleased to see OBAMA as president... i think he is going to be a really great president.

DeathByMonkey · 05/11/2008 13:32

I know, nssa, it was a real lump in the throat moment when I saw the result, like the world had changed for the better in that moment. I think he is going to be a great leader.

LuckymummyBigFatTummy · 05/11/2008 13:51

I too have been a bit ...dare I say it...tearful...watching on TV.

wastingmyeducation · 05/11/2008 17:33

I was just wondering what sleep your LOs all do? Naps as well as night time?

xx

4inthebed · 05/11/2008 20:53

Hi all, its magicfairy here, thought a name change was needed and 4inthebed is much more me at the mo!!

Ive not been on here for ages, and theres a new thread and its already 3 pages in, sorry but ive not read back over much at all. I hope everyone is doing well.

Well all is good at the mo in the 4inthebed house, ds2 has 2 very sharp teeth, is crawling and enjoying food. Sleep is still rubbish, he usually naps twice a day from 20mins to 2 hours and a night well who knows, its differnet everynight!

both boys are starting to really interact with each other and enjoy each others company, which is lovley. ds1 makes ds2 laugh the most!!

I just wanted to say to those who are struggling with food, try putting some food in front of them and letting them have a go themselves. We started blw with ds2 and he seemed to really go for it then not so much so i thought i would try him with some purees. He clamped his mouth shut and what little i managed to get in came straight back out again! He then grabbed the spoon and put in his mouth himself! I have gone back to blw, and he loves it! some days hes not so keen, but dont we all have days when we dont want to eat much then days when all we want to do is eat (actually most days for me are none stop eating!)

Anyway hope you are all well, im off to get my bonfire smelly clothes off and my jimjams on and snuggle up for the night

notsoseriousanymore · 06/11/2008 12:42

OK, which one of you abducted my husband and replaced him with a new version??? Seriously, DH is being LOVELY. yesterday, I got an e-mail which just said how much he appreciated me, and today, he's sent me a list of little things I can afford that he would like to get for Christmas and at the weekend, he is taking Harry and I out to nice activities for Harry BOTH days!! So, come on - which one of you switched him!!??

Have been out walking with some friends who both also have babies and dogs and we walked from 8:30 till just now... Eeekk... One of the girls has a 6 week old baby and she was shattered - i don't think she was expecting to be that long (neither was I, to be honest!)

Hope you are all looking forward to the weekend!!

Flick - Did you send some more leaflets? I gave my last two out today...

LM - Really agree with you about MN at the moment... Lots of the threads are really quite nasty... Maybe it's the credit crunch, but lots of people seem to have a lot to say about other people's lifestyles ATM... People getting benefits / people working etc., I think lots of people are a bit stressed?

Must go and feed DS.

NSSA x

LuckymummyBigFatTummy · 06/11/2008 13:59

NSSA I am glad DH is finally treating you how you deserve to be treated....long may it last .

WME Yes, my DD2 sleeps about 12 hrs at night and has 2-3 naps in the day, s short one being 40 mins and a long one being 2 hrs.

Mocat · 06/11/2008 15:10

DH set four mouse traps in the loft. When he went to check them the next morning, three were where he had left them but one had gone missing!!! Is there a giant mouse out there with a trap hanging off a paw or ear? Giant eeek!

DD won't take more than 3 fluid ounces from a bottle. I think I can remember this when DD switched over from breast to formula. I don't blame DS for not liking it - it takes yucky to me too! He seems to be holding off until his lunch time feed from me and then feeding more in the evening and at night. I would love to stay off work and feed him until he doesn't need milk anyore.

DS naps about an hour after he wakens in the morning for about 30 mins, then again at lunchtime for maybe an hour or more.
Sleeps from 7pm until about 11pm, has another feed and sleeps through to about 7.30am. Wonderful boy!!!

Well done on the lengthy walk nssa.

Mocat · 06/11/2008 16:49

Forgot to say - DS has two spoon feeds per day: lunch and dinner.

Bought a bumbo today and DS loves it. Very handy for ehrn I'm washing my hands after changing his nappy and I need somewhere safe to put him. I think it was you lm74 who mentioned them recently. Thanks!

When do the babies move up into next stage car seats? Is it deternined by weight or age?

notsoseriousanymore · 06/11/2008 17:34

GIant EEEKKK is right, Mocat!!!

I think the guidelines say 20lbs and then they can move into a forward facing car seat but will watch for more advice from the FMLs (Friendly May Ladies! )

Niknak21 · 06/11/2008 17:46

Mocat We moved DS1 into forward facing car seat when my ram was dropping off from carrying him in his maxi cosi cabrio. They need to be 9kg and sitting up unaided. Going to leave it as long as possible since next one for DS1 is one that you thread the normal seat belt through and the shop advised me they can then unclip themselves.

macaco · 06/11/2008 18:06

Hi

hadn't heard the sitting up unaided bit but had heard the 9kg thing. DS is already 8.5 kg but going to use the group 0 as long as I can (up to 13kg).

Also have a bumbo and love it.

Back to "normal" naps today...thank goodness (9am to 11am, 1.30 to 2.30 and 3pm to 5pm) bed by 7pm. means I can get something done while he's asleep. Still suspicious there's another tooth coming through.

Got to the jané supplier and ordered my hood with inbuilt rain cover...yah! Should be able to pick it up next week.

mumofkandj · 06/11/2008 19:58

Groan and moan alert!
DH got D&V early hours tuesday morning and managd to share bugs with us all. I started puking yesterday teatime, DD1 started at 3 am. DD2 has had 2 extra poos to normal, but no vomiting. We're all exhausted (DH stayed up with DD2 til 1 am so I could have a rest).
I HATE being ill, I'd forgotten what its like. When DD2 was born I was up and around more than I've been capable of today.
At least we (hopefully) are all on the mend, and I have been able to eat some pasta and veg just now.

Macaco- we liked out bumbo for DD1 but J is excellent at arching her back so can flip out of it already (we never had that bother with K!).

For car seats, I remember seeing a thread somewhere about in scandinavian countries the next size up car seat is rear-facing too. Personally, I'm looking forward to J being forward facing (though admittedly less safe) but we'll have to get the next size up carseat for K- she's in the 9 month- 4 yr seat now.

mumofkandj · 06/11/2008 19:59

Forgot to say, DH told me J ate a whole banana today at lunchtime! She refuses it mashed or in chunks but give her the whole thing and she slurps it up happily!

LuckymummyBigFatTummy · 07/11/2008 11:39

4inabed can you tell me a bit more about what sort of food you offer DS on the blw thing. DD2 is getting better, but still quite an effort. I didn't do BLW with DD1, so it's all new to me. I can't imagine her being able to eat stuff that's not mashed at her age. She knawed (sp?) on a banana at Costa Coffee yesterday, but I really don't think she ate any, not if her bib was anything to go by afterwards . I would like to try it, but need a bit more guidance please from the FMLs who BLW (like the abbrev NSSA!!). mocat As far as I'm aware, this is the advice on car seats:

  1. 9kg or 20lbs in weight
  2. Able to sit unaided for at least 20 mins
  3. Should stay rear facing for as long as possible as this is safest apparently.

We are debating what to do. Apparently the next size up (for DD1) is from age 3-10 yrs. I'm wondering if I can keep DD2 in the rear facing til April/May when DD1 will then be 3yrs old, so we can get her a big big girls seat and DD2 can then have her 'middle' seat (we've got a maxi cosi Toby). My only concern is, DD1 was much smaller than DD2 is, and we ended up putting her in a forward facing seat when she was 9 months old.

It just seems crazy to have to buy another seat exactly the same for a matter of months, then DD1 will be able to go in the next size up....do you see what I mean?

Feeling a bit [knackered and in pain emoticon] as I just took both the girls to the supermarket. It would have been OK but Dd2 was unusually tired for the time we went and screamed the place down the whole time. I got lots of sympathetic looks..... My shoulder is still killing me, but I had to go today and DH who would normally go for me, is asleep cos he's on nights.

mumofk&j Poor you with all the illness...esp D&V, how awful. I hope you all get better soon.

Well it's a nice sunny day here, and I'm desperate to get the bedding washed so that I can hang it outside, but my inconsiderate poor DH needs to sleep today. Do you think I could try and change the bed with him in it? I used to help the nurses do it when I worked on intensive care.........

Mocat · 07/11/2008 12:39

Lm74 Lol at changing the bed with DH still in it. Is he a sound sleeper? 'Don't mind me dear, just doing a bit of tidying!' Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. Good on you for doing the shopping anyway!!

mumofkandj Sympathy on the sickness front. I hope you all get it out of your systems as soon as possible.

Well done macaco on getting to Jane and ordering the rain cover. I got a new Jane 'nest' on ebay recently and DS is exceedinlgy snug in it and it was super cheap!

Thanks for all the car seat advice, ladies. DS cannot sit unaided yet but he is nearly 9kg. I wonder which is more important? Putting him into the current seat is a bit like fitting a size 5 foot into a size 3 shoe. I have to (gently) push his shoulders back to fit him in!

If I don't post for a week contact the authorities - the giant mouse will have got me!

shonnomanom · 07/11/2008 12:58

Hey Ladies
Its been a bit crazy here the last few weeks so im just catching up on my readin(mn). fwiw I totally agree with everyones comments on the attitudes on some threads. I read the June thread from time to time as dd was born may30th and this May thread is definatly the Nicest place to be.

This last 2 weeks my dd has got the explorers bug. And is determined to not be in the one place for any length of time - even when she is sleeping! Yday she fell asleep in my arms, I placed her unstrapped in her bouncer while I grabbed a quick shower. I came out to find her on the floor giggling her head off so proud of herself!!

On the subject of Bumbo's. I love it, Hannah loves it. Especially now that she's figured out that if she stretchies(sp) she can get her leg out !

Last week after having pulled herself up into the sitting position whilst in her moses basket H has successfully moved into her cot - woohoo
We started pureed fruit this week - banana and pear is favourite. Hopefully trying veg next week.

Hope everyone is well and has a good weekend

Sho

macaco · 07/11/2008 15:25

No time to post now as I'm on my way out but...

I've heard it's the 9kg that's important for the group1 seat, not the sitting unaided (in fact I've never heard about that) as it's safety is based on weight.

Mocat We have a Jané nest and I LOVE it!

LuckymummyBigFatTummy · 07/11/2008 15:42

It's Friday

Mitchell81 · 07/11/2008 15:45

Just a quick note to LM what about something like this we have same problem and looking at getting this for DS1 so that DS2 can go into the maxi cosi tobi.

thefortbuilder · 07/11/2008 15:53

we are keeping ds2 in the maxi cosi till he's at least 12kg! although he's long and just around 8kg at the moment but i really prefer them backwards facing as i know it is safer in an impact etc.

re naps sam wakes around 730, naps around 9 for about 30 mins, then around 1130 for an hour (so has lunch late!) then around 330 for an hour again, then sleep around 7pm generally al lthe way through till 7ish. sooooooo different to ds1!

sorry to tell you nssa but i switched.... well it felt like that this week anyway, but he seems to have turned over a new leaf so that's something...

still no teeth here but ds2 is an eater!! he has on average 220g of food per meal - it's a ridiculous amount compared to ds1! he is also trying to crawl but not getting very far as he gets too frustrated and then gives up very quickly.

not much else, nssa i will put some more flyers in the post to you today. MM thanks and will post your booties tomorrow morning!

have a great weekend all if i don't get on

notsoseriousanymore · 07/11/2008 16:14

Oh, Flick I am sorry that you got the grumpy DH... I hope you have a good weekend..

My DH really seems to have turned over a new leaf... We are most probably going to watch DSD1 play Lacrosse tomorrow, then science museum, then swimming on Sunday morning followed by a train ride to pick DH's new car up.. Do you think the new car might be putting DH in a good mood???? [cynical mummy emoticon!]

DS sounds JUST like Sam - He also eats 220gms per meal and has eaten 4 times today + one apricot puree (I tried sweet potato first but it didn't go well!!). DS is also trying to crawl. We went to Monkey Music on Monday and the 2 10month old kids were crawling and DS just wanted to be everywhere they were - I ended up carrying him to keep him quiet.. He is going to be a real life monkey when he can move!!!

LM sorry you are feeling under the weather and in pain.. It's difficult when your DH is trying to sleep during the day, especially when it rains (it's poured down here this afternoon!!)

Sho - I feel quite proud and priviledged to be on this group... It is a good group. Thank you FMLs!!!!

Mitchell How are you? Will send you a FB message...

Pina - Hope you aren't feeling too upset about the car. What a total bugger.. There is never a good time, but it's especially hard this close to Christmas when you are trying to get pressies (or do you have all yours?? Am I imagining that?)

Mocat - ANy sign of the scariest mouse in history??!

I am also leaving DS in his Maxi Cosy for as long as possible because (i) I think it's safe, (ii) I know how to use it and (iii) it fits onto the Quinny wheels and makes me far more portable than I would otherwise be!!! So he is staying in it for as long as possible!!!

MM - Are you still up for a meet up soon? I fancy a little trip to London with DS and would be lovely to meet for wine coffee ... Maybe you are free, too, Flick?

Gosh, what a lovely feeling - Actually looking FORWARD to a weekend!!!

NSSA xxxx
