Thought as the messages were coming in thick & fast I´d start new thread. Don´t know if it´ll work though. Fingers crossed.

Tis true - I think we both ended up feeling a little deskilled.
We have come to an uneasy truce - I showed him some research from Australian infant mental health dept about effects of CC (very untested, most likely negative, use as last resort) which he scoffed at slightly, but more for face-saving I think, as he did listen to what it said and I think now sees what I am trying to say, that am not just weak-willed and wussy mummy, but that Molly just isn't bad enough to risk trying something like that.
I think is up to me to do the nights though, mind you, it always has been really, so no change there then.
But we have had a hug and both said sorry and I love you so is not horrid and tense.

Took DSD out to see High School musical 3 this afternoon and he looked after DD, and had a really lovely chilled time with her, so I think that's been really good.

Anyway - enough about memememe - ladybee - I have a slightly stupid question - when you prepare sweet potato to roast for finger food, how do you do it? Do you cut it into chip shapes and then roast, or roast as a whole and then cut?

KnitterInTheNW · 02/11/2008 20:36

I'm back! Been to my mum & dad's for the week and went to the concert I was worried about leaving George to go to. All was fine.

Ellie, where in N Wales are you staying at xmas? We're not a million miles away.

George isn't very well, has eaten practically no solids for the last few days, and my nipples are sore as anything cos they're not used to being used this much any more! I thought it was just teething, but something makes me think he might have a sore throat so will take him to the doc tomorrow just to check. He's not a happy bunny. Actually, if he has a sore throat could it be that making my nips sore? Or is that just silly?

Sorry to have missed Sal, hope she has a fab time and can't wait to hear all about it when she gets back.

LadyBee · 02/11/2008 20:57

I roast as long quarters with the skin on and then cut further from there so that he can hold onto the skin and sort of munch the flesh out. Same with squash.

Glad to hear about the truce.

VS meant to say earlier, thanks for letting me know what A is up to - very reassuring. Some day I might actually start to trust my baby and my gut feelings, but until then I shall be happy that mumsnet exists.

Hello Knitter, good that it all went well leaving G. Don't know about sore throat making for sore nips, but if he is a bit uncomfortable in his gums he might be clamping down on you, which would deffo lead to discomfort - B's doing exactly this to me at the moment, my poor nips are coming out of his mouth squished and with lines across them...must work harder at reminding him to latch properly but TBH at 5 in the morning I just want it over and done.

EllieG · 02/11/2008 21:11

I don't know what I would ever do without MN! Can't imagine going it alone, would be terrifying
Will roast some sweet potato tomorrow. How long can you keep it for do you think? Can you freeze roasted bits I wonder? Mol don't really like warm food at moment, weirdly enough prefers her veg cold. Ugh.

Hi knitter! Was wondering where you'd got to.
Mol was teething and had a cold and laryngitus (badly spelt sorry) last couple of weeks and was really off her food for a while. All came about the same time so hard to tell which was the reason, but by the time the cold and throat had cleared up, she was still very off her food and bottles, and the hv said this is very common when teething, apparently they hate the feeling of things on their new teeth at first, and sore gums. She and doc said not to worry as long as was drinking milk, and when she had a day or so of not drinking that, they said just to give plenty water and fleshy fruits and veg like courgette and melon etc to keep fluids up. But take to doc for some peace of mind, though mine made me feel like a paranoid mummy. But don't care, would rather be paranoid than miss something wrong.

Glad concert was good - what was it?

EllieG · 02/11/2008 21:18

Oh my goodness ladybee have just had a peek at babybee on your profile - what a little cutie! She has gorgeous eyes doesn't she?

KnitterInTheNW · 02/11/2008 21:22

It was the wonderstuff, all time fave band for the past 15+ years!

I'm sure the doc will tell me that everything is fine, but I'd rather go for peace of mind like you said. I don't really care if s/he thinks I'm paranoid mummy, just rather rule everything out before i sit back and wait for it to all get better in time.

I know he's chomping on my nipples cos I can see/feel it, but this soreness feels like they're on fire even now and he last had a feed a good couple of hours ago. Lanisoh isn't really helping much. I'm clenching my teeth and bearing it so that he gets some fluids, he won't take anything from any other vessel!

KnitterInTheNW · 02/11/2008 21:24

and second what Ellie said, babybee is gorgeous!

EllieG · 02/11/2008 21:31

I used to LOVE the Wonderstuff! Are they still going? I thought they split up yonks ago. Ooo am jealous

Commiserations over your sore nips - don't know what could be wrong as know nuffin about breastfeeding - you could try posting on the bf threads - it might be something unrelated like thrush or mastitus.

Right, off to watch Stephen Fry in America.

Peachy · 02/11/2008 21:48

Babybee and Bas seem to have similar eyes, very big dark ones. My favourites.
Mine are blue. Meh.

I cook my sweet pot like ladybee, Ellie. In fact in a despearte attempt to get calories in him today, I roasted some in lard. Oh dear.

Knitter- thrush? check for white patches in the mouth. Thats supposed to feel like fire, and lansinoh would make it worse.
I know our chomping is due to teething, stll hurts though. Those bottom teeth are very sharp indeed.

KnitterInTheNW · 02/11/2008 22:03

Thanks Peachy, I'll check his mouth in the morning.

And wow at roasting sweet pots in lard! Did he like them?

Peachy · 02/11/2008 22:04

He loved them, so I suppose tis OK. Just goes agianst all I was raised with LOL.

LadyBee · 02/11/2008 22:06

Knitter, I think you should ask the GP to have a look at whether it might be thrush - it might just be chafing but I would have thought Lansinoh would give more comfort then. If it were thrush that might also be painful for G which could explain him being off food as well?

I can't see why you couldn't freeze roasted vege bits. I haven't so far because we don't have that much room in our freezer and I eat them up myself as well (have discovered I actually like roast parsnip after thinking I hated it all my life).

Thanks for the compliments about BabyBee. He's a he Ellie, but don't feel bad, for the first 4 weeks of his life I referred to him as a her for some reason. I knew he was a he from the scan as well, so can't blame shock or surprise. He does have v pretty eyes.

LadyBee · 02/11/2008 22:07

oh I'm sooo slow!

Peachy · 02/11/2008 22:12

No you're not Ladybee- just Sunay-itis I expect

Peachy · 02/11/2008 22:13

Sunday itis

KnitterInTheNW · 02/11/2008 22:13

Goes against it all Peachy, but you won't get as many calories into Bas using one-cal oil spray will you!

I've been Veggie for over 20 years now, but still remember loving toast and dripping at my grandma's house when I was little. How about GF toast and dripping tomorrow?!! (Bleargh at the thought of that now!)

LadyBee · 02/11/2008 22:13

Peachy, avocado? lots of it?

Peachy · 02/11/2008 22:17

He likes avocado but never tried as a finger food- great thinking Batman! (as Dh says, rather oddly now I come to think of it... LOL)

Peachy · 02/11/2008 22:18

Toast and dripping.... mmmm... good idea but might get dh on that one!

LadyBee · 02/11/2008 22:38

Could mash it onto toast with a bit of butter (is he having butter?) - this is my favourite way of eating it (with lemon juice) which might get more into mouth. It's quite slippy isn't it.

I've got an avocado waiting to ripen at the moment. I wish it would hurry up.

Oh I've just looked up calorie values avocado = 190 per 100g; sweet potato, average baked = 115 per 100g; potatos, roast in lard = 149 per 100g.

LadyBee · 02/11/2008 22:42

Peachy your DH must have watched the same Saturday morning as my DP, who frequently says to me - nice thinking 99

LadyBee · 02/11/2008 22:43

Saturday morning TV

PeachyFizzesLikeADampSquib · 02/11/2008 22:49

no butter but the df variant (tastes like- oh no hang on, doesn't taste! I miss butter!)

I did make him df choc pud but he doesnt like chocolate

KnitterInTheNW · 02/11/2008 23:05

George hasn't tried chocolate yet but thoroughly enjoyed one of my auntie's homemade ginger biscuits. yum!

PeachyFizzesLikeADampSquib · 02/11/2008 23:11

Aw!

Bas likes apple and cinnamon combinations best I think.
