SOH tell them to feck off we have told allour family we dont want gifts we will only be buying for the children. They are more than welcome to buy for A or mini munch but dont expect in return. We got totally fed up of the this is what I want and then you get horrid boxes of smellies or dodgy slippers in return.

ShowOfHands · 10/11/2008 18:27

I want some freudian slippers. Seriously. You're right though. Next year, only buy for littlies.

It's a chipper little chappie called Mika singing about Big Girls.

Sounds right up my street.

It's raining here. A lot. And we have had so many 12 hour power cuts that the generator has gone on strike.

But the good news is - Margaret is back!

ShowOfHands · 10/11/2008 19:30

The Gossip TMAM. I like 'Standing in the Way of Control', but the album's good according to dh.

The Rasmus are quite good to work out to.

The Zutons album 'Who Killed The Zutons'.

Any of this near to what you like?

Hurrah for slavery Margaret!

MID, have you tried asking Freddie to participate and cooperate? When M wants a new nappy or when I want her to have one I tell her it's time to get a nappy and her wipes and come and lie down. And she does. Or she brings the potty/wipes/nappy to me unprompted. I don't just pick her up and lie her down as I wouldn't like that and she likes to know what's happening and feel like she has some choice about where and when. If she says 'no no no no bum bum bum nappy nappy' and runs off, I leave her a few minutes, lay the nappy and wipes out and say 'when you're ready, come and lie down and then we'll go and read/play/feed the horses/go to the park' etc. She never takes long. I didn't teach her to say bum btw. Don't know where she learnt it. Horrid word.

Of course I'm a hippy. Other May07ers will tell you to strap him down and get on with it.

[whispers} hello...anyone out there? I have found my way back so thought I would come and wave. how are you all? I am going to try and catch up but it has been a v long time. Are there lots of new babies and bumps etc?

Aprilmeadow · 10/11/2008 22:06

Evening just popping in as i have just returned from my college evening. Feeling lots happier about the project now that i have spoken to the fabulous Pink and had long chats with the tutors.

I think i will just do Secret Santa (sorry mrsjb) otherwise we wont do one! email me at [email protected]

Budget upto £10 however items could be home made if you are feeling creative.

charleymouse · 10/11/2008 22:34

TMAM Glad you had a great time. DH suggests I Am Kloot, Elbow, (he's just checking his I tunes) Kasabian, The Verve. He has these on his I Phone when he is on the treadmill. (So inclusive I missed Anneme waves hello welcome back, MID, JL, BB, LATL and JB and sorry for everyone else I have missed again) just trying to tease out those lurkers.

Ooh SOH you little minx, you have me all hot under the collar. How did your mums dungaree making get on?

Scoot he would tell you to have some time off and chill I am sure.

Jam the decisions we make are so difficult aren't they, never sure which is the right way to go. Do I take it you and DH are not doing CP? I am so romantic I bought DH a new maglite LED torch for our anniversary present. But yes gets very dark in the country.

Hello Anneme, I wouldn't even try to catch up, just doing it on a weekly basis exhausts me. I'm sure someone not as lazy as me will post a summary for you.

Glad the pink tutor helped out AM. Keep up the good work.

Waves to everyone in hopes of keeping up with inclusivity.

charleymouse · 10/11/2008 22:40

Oh why have none of you style gurus offered colour advice for my kitchen, i am stuck what shall I do? I am hoping to get it done by Christmas and still can't make up my mind, should I just go for tiles instead of glass bearing in mind my slovenly tendencies.

Will add pic of wallpaper which will be at other end of room as well. Kitchen is cream gloss and worktops are black with silvery flecks.

Problem has arisen as I was having greenish/black worktops and coppery/burnt orange glass and then changed my mind on worktops and it has thrown me, will copper still work do you think?

Aprilmeadow · 10/11/2008 23:00

I love your kitchen Charley! We have a pale milk chocolate colour in ours as our cupboards are oak stylie. I dont think you should go with a cream or very pale colour or else it might look quite cold, but on the otherhand having it too dark would make it look smaller.

Are they able to give you some samples of the glass to try out?

charleymouse · 10/11/2008 23:07

Cheers AM we have an oak table and chairs (have a bit of an oak thing going on) so approve of your choices they have given some samples but they are grey, black and blue tones and one red one which did not fancy he did give us a coffee one which is nice TBH but it does not suit the space, looks insipid. He is supposed to be making me a coppery sample but has suggested I give him a colour to match the sample to.

That's why I fancied an orangey colour to warm it up/ brighten it a little. Metalic lilac is another option I was considering

Themasterandmargaritas · 11/11/2008 07:20

Been up for hours me. Have you gone back to bed yet? Did you get up early to scribble?

Thanks for all the music suggestions just going off to have a look now, though I am a bit that I haven't heard of most of them ancient old beast that I am.

Themasterandmargaritas · 11/11/2008 07:40

Oh and hello Anneme, welcome back.

Listen, why don't i organise the SS, since nothing is likely to reach me or reach you all in one piece from here, I am happy to coordinate.

largeginandtonic · 11/11/2008 08:26

WOW! Welcome back slackers MID and Aneme

I am with SOH on the asking them to help with nappy changing, Beau will tell me has done a poo and i send him off to find the nappy and wipes. He then feels like he is doing something to help. TBH if i strapped him in to that mat he would just stand up with it

Jam your dh needs a scare to get him to realise leaving the phone off is not an option. I don't want to burst your bubble but second and subsequent babies go head down and then pop right out again as they fidget for a good position. The trouble with first babies is they go head down and stay there sometimes quite early. If they do this and are not in a great position it can make labour last for hours as they try to fidget (with a wedged head) in to the right position to actually be born. Probably what happened with M SOH.

The last 2 of mine have not even bothered engaging till labour. Just as well really as they were both breech This one is still doing flips, it hurts. She is very happy and not causing too many problems for me though so i am grateful for that. Am looking puffy today, have sausage fingers.

SOH can i read the book yet?

April will mail you later and post recipie and pics... am useless.

I don't feel undervalued at home i am just bloody annoyed that i get no let up. I want lunch alone and someone to deligate work type tasks to. I want to get out of my jeans and in to a smart outfit. 10 year itch for me i think.

TMAM your break sounds lovely, very pleased you and dh got on so well too. Also fabulous that Margaret is back

CM i painted my last kitchen pink, it had coloured glass blocks set in to the wall and a retro 50's work top and cupboards. Think diner. I loved it, now some fecking whore has hit Hey ho. I am still not speaking to my sister.

What the hell were you doing up so early? I was weeing at that time

ShowOfHands · 11/11/2008 09:32

I have nothing coherent to say this morning. I chanelled all of my brain power into washing up at 4am, tidying a bit and crying into the carpet.

Thread in health explains why I was up. Nobody replied though, witching hour post that it was.

anneme, oo-er. What is it that's bringing you all back? Are CinnamonTam, Lups and Lottie with you? Jessinwa, she'd be a surprise!

LG&T, book? What book? It's a heap of dross.

CM, where is this glass going? You mean like splashbacks? Mum still making the dungarees, they sell well. She's thinking of taking them to some christmas fairs/NCT type sales. M's wearing some at the moment with safari animals on.

I can't lift my fingers to type anymore.

I can't read all this!!!!!

Hope you're all well. Ignore AM - she's doing a fabulous job with her course and is going to make a wonderful HR bod. Just like me, MNing working hard all day.

Well ladies, I have had a disastrous weekend. (Apologies to AM, who has already heard all this) On Saturday morning, I was looking forward to my big night out with the girls, sitting on the floor with L, playing, and thinking, 'OK, in ten mins I'll go and have a shower and then head off to have my hair done'. L decided that was not going to happen, and proceeded to butt me, thereby knocking my front tooth out. (It's a bridge, btw, not my actual tooth). I was completely distraught at the sheer injustice of it all, and was sobbing, in true drama queen fashion. L was sobbing because I was sobbing, and, oh, it was a right bloody palaver. Anyway, managed to find an emergency dentist in Southport who put it back in for me and charged me £49.50. So, I happily trotted off to get my hair done, ignoring the texts from M telling me that L had cried for an hour. Got my hair done, it's all layered and dark brown (I told you I always come out like Morticia), and the hairdresser was gorgeous in a Benny from Abba way (and I know Scoot has already heard that bit!).

My hair took 3.5 hours and so I finally headed home to meet my friend. We drove to our hotel in Manchester, and as we walked up the stairs, we said, 'Oh, shall we just get a bar of chocolate or something to tide us over'. So we bought two Chunky Kitkats (can you see what's coming?). Yes, I bit down on the godforsaken thing, and my tooth came out again. In Manchester. On a Saturday night. At 7pm.

So what did I do? I went out anyway. I kept my hand over my mouth (difficult when you're doing karaoke) all night. T'was a right bloody palaver. My wonderful friends were so amazing, but I could tell deep down they were horrified for me.

And then yesterday L had an unfortunate incident with a computer table, and she has a black eye today. So I've not slept a wink worrying that she is concussed.

Why do these things only happen to me?????

largeginandtonic · 11/11/2008 09:54

Here this will perk you up

GINGERBREAD

12oz plain flour
1 tsp bicarb
2tsp ground ginger
4oz margarine
6oz light mucovado sugar
4tbsp golden syrup
1 egg (beaten)

Measure flour, bicarb and ginger in to a large bowl. Rub in margarine till mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in sugar. Add the syrup and beaten egg to mixture and knead until a soft dough forms. If it is too wet add more flour but i think the softer the dough the softer the gingerbread.

Roll out one half at a time and cut in desired shapes. (190/375/gas 5)

Put on to lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 10 mins or so, keep a close eye. I always make mine thicker so the gingerbread is softer but if you want that hard snap cook for longer and make the shapes thinner.

I want Scoot for a secret santa saw the perfect thing for her

ShowOfHands · 11/11/2008 10:00

How the hell is a list like that supposed to perk me up? I don't have several of the ingredients. It's depressing. I need a gingy to walk through the door, across the sofa and into my mouth. No effort from me.

Oh PJ. How's the tooth now? After a head injury you keep an eye out for unusual drowsiness, any bleeding from ears/mouth/nose etc, refusal to be comforted, vomitting. DH swung M through his legs yesterday and smacked her head on a stone floor. She screamed for about a minute, had milk and ran off to play. Remember to work with the facts when these things happen ie she's not vomitting, she's not confused or sleepy etc.

It's back in again now SOH - my dentist charged me £45 yesterday to put it back in. So that's £100 blown this weekend on the blasted thing. L seems fine, but I'm always a little edgy when she has to go to nursery and I can't spend all day scrutinising her!!

Pinkjenny · 11/11/2008 13:43

I am so good at killing this thread. I start to panic that no one wants to speak to me.

[paranoid emoticon]

charleymouse · 11/11/2008 14:01
