Morning all

Jammy have emailed you to join SS. Hope you are finally feeling a bit better.

JBM, the corset party sounds fab!

Holly, I can't believe DP's son. Separated families are so hard. I never had my dad around then he had 2 boys who he even admitted he loved more than me, which was really hard. I always felt really cheated out of a dad, so I can kind of sympathise about where he is coming from. I know that he has "spend" your DC's money, but your DC's have both their parents around and have a loving family, which is obviously worth a lot more. That said the lad sounds like a spoilt brat and obviously his mum has not kept them in check very well. If I was your DP I would be getting him to work to pay the money back.

I worked from the age of 14 in a weekend job, at which point my mum stopped giving me any money and I had to buy all my own clothes, tamapx etc. I always worked, and when I was 18 I worked on a Haven site to save for Uni where for the the "peak weeks" I was working 70 hours a week. I also worked all the way through Uni as my mum couldn't afford to give me much and I did my MSC part-time while working as a researcher.

My maternity leave was the first time in 13 years I hadn't worked. I had no credit cards till I got married. And DH has quite a lot of debt from over the years which he says is his debt not mine, but it means that all his £200 odd job seekers allowance goes on his credit cards rather than on rent . So it is my debt really.

morning

another bad night chez daisy . DD this time, with a horrible temperature and screaming on a regular bais throughout the night. I thought it was teething, but would that cause a temperature? I hope it isn't an ear infection. Calpol is rallying her a little bit, but she is very cuddly this morning which isn't like her at all.

Even gave her some medised in the night to try and get her to stay asleep. It didn't work!

We are hoping that both DCs are getting sleepless nights out of their systems before virgil comes along

Not much planned this weekend other than more tidying and clearing out and sorting. The boys are off out for the morning and DD and I are shortly going back to bed!

LackaDAISYcal · 18/10/2008 09:31

hi bumper....cross posts

It's nice to see you again; we miss you in the week!

Any news on the job front for DH? And what is happening with the claim? can you talk about it online?

I think there might be a halloween name change competition. You should enter yours as it's the best one I've seen so far...well yours and Holly's

JammyOLantern · 18/10/2008 10:01

Morning

Dh has taken Jamlet out to Dads' Zone!! It's fantastically bloody peaceful here Will have a lovely long little sit down followed by a frantic little tidy up I think Hope he enjoys it. He did say he wasn't looking forward to it but knew she would like it and that it would be good for him and her to have that time together.

When is my voice going to sort itself out? I am fed up with not knowing if I'm going to sound like a husky, sexy woman or Minnie flippin' Mouse everytime I open my mouth! Am wish my throat would stop hurting too

LackaDAISYcal · 18/10/2008 10:14

jammy, sorry your throat is still horrible. Do you maybe need some ABs for it?

aargh smelly baby alert...back later

Bloodystumperlicious · 18/10/2008 11:12

Sorry, I assumed I was alone and abandoned you all. Have been skyping with my mum. She loves it now she can talk to DD face to face every day. DD just likes to see her cats. Every time the computer is open she says "tat?".

She also worryingly has an obsession with catalogues, the mini IQ one, and now the Boots one. I keep expecting to find stuff circled in there for Christmas!

Sorry you had a tough night daisy

Jammy, hope you feel better. Assume you tried honey and lemon etc. Have you tried gargling with hot water and tea tree oil? Quite good for inflammation.

I have been on the halloween thread I think but I shall go and make my presence known again. God knows I'm due a little luck.

No news on the job front . DH had a grievance meeting with the Twunts, and they will get back to him this week. They may offer something, a job (no fucking way) or a paltry sum of money. DH said he managed to answer all their questions really well and made his case reasonably. One of the reasons they are blaming is finances, it's a bit complicated, but the long and short of it is that was the same situation before he started the trial, so why bother giving him a trial if it was never going to be financially viable [idiots]. The whole process could take months though. I doubt it will be resolved by Christmas.

JammyOLantern · 18/10/2008 11:20

Sorry to hear DH isn't having much joy Bumper. And no, I haven't tried gargling as gargling anything makes me want to be sick! I've been looking on NHS direct website and sound like I've had laryngitis which it says can take up to 2 weeks after clearing up for the voice to return to normal

Well, DH hasn't come running back saying "I hated it!" so either he'd having a great time, or he's ticking it out for the full 2 hours and I'll pay the price later! Hope it's the former as we're going to a party later and it'll be miserable if he's in a grump.

JammyOLantern · 18/10/2008 11:58

Just to let all you Word Challengers know that we have a LONG way to go to the top: my friend Hugh has a score of 59397 , which makes him an Anagram Cyborg!!!!!

LackaDAISYcal · 18/10/2008 12:18

gave DD some medised.....she wandered around for about two minutes being a grump, then got her fingers causght in the door. I picked her up to comfort her and she whimpered a couple fo times ans went out like a light. Either she was really really tired and had run out of stem, or that stuff is pretty good shit!

Feel bad for giving it to her , but she needs to sleep; she was wandering around crashing into things and wobbling on her feet she was that tired but just wouldn't give in to sleep. I am assuaging my guilt with the fact that the bottle we have was bought before the guidelines changed and it says from 3 months

I hope something gets resolved for your DH soon bumper. When I was going to go back to work after DS my employer had agreed to a trial, becuase they had to in the eyes of the law, but made it clear to me that they were looking at it as more of a resettling back into the job exercise rather than a permanent arrangement and were expecting me to be back full time after the trial period. I just never went back. It pisses me off that I was able to get a new job based on PT hours current employers it was a viable concern.

LackaDAISYcal · 18/10/2008 12:19

at your friends score jammy. How is that possible?

Ohforfoxsake · 18/10/2008 16:44

Daisy, don't beat yourself up over the Medised, you are using it properly, not to get her to sleep nightly. And temperatures do occur with teething, but not high spiky ones (I had the same conversation with the consultant when DD2 was in hospital).

Agree Bumper, some luck needs to come your way. Nice to 'see' you on here again though.

Jammy, I hope you get better soon, you've had more than your fair share of sickness.

LackaDAISYcal · 18/10/2008 17:03

hey foxy

Her glands are all swollen as well so I think it's infection that she is fighting as well as the teething which is making her doubly miserable. If she isn't any better I'll get her to the docs on Monday. Her poo is very very pale (like butter) and mucousy as well since she was sick last week as well.
As long as I don't catch any of the tummy nastiness going around. I have no objection to going into labour but I definately don't want to do it if I'm poorly as well!

DH isn't great either. He has been getting really bad headaches all week and is very short tempered. It's all fun and games in this house

Ohforfoxsake · 18/10/2008 17:08

How long has she had it? Been a day or two? Might have been brewing.

LackaDAISYcal · 18/10/2008 17:16

two weeks ago se was full of cold, then she had diahorrea the week after that, then the mega vomit last Friday and she has had a poorly bum all week, and now this . Poor lamb, her system must be ravaged. She hasn't eaten properly for two weeks either!

Ithink she might have earache, for no other reason than I do too and I always had earache when DS was teething as well!!

DS has just busted the Santa myth . My baby is really growing up now. I was hoping for a few more years belief out of him.

Ohforfoxsake · 18/10/2008 17:23

NOOOOO! What happened? Did he suss it out, or did someone spill the beans?

LackaDAISYcal · 18/10/2008 17:29

he is being very cagey about it; first he said he out a camera in , then his GPs told him......and is now reluctantly saying someone at school told him. some of his school mates have older brothers and sisters so probably came from them.

We have tried to laugh it off, but he isn't having it.

Need to tell him to keep it going for emily and virgil's sake.

Ohforfoxsake · 18/10/2008 17:32

Don't give up yet! Can you take him to a fab grotto or something?

I dread that day coming here

Not believing just isn't an option.

LackaDAISYcal · 18/10/2008 17:40

We will try and regain the magic. the grotto we took him to last year was fab; the santa was magnificent and it was his own long white hair and beard....not a wig so he really looked the part! DS was mesmerized.

HollyWeen · 18/10/2008 18:23

Oh dear daisy, poor dd. Hope she is ok. I find that all these illnesses tend to come at once.Hope she is gets better soon. Shit about father christmas! I bet you feel like he is really growing up now .

I stupidly wrote to Hipp about the bfing group. I asked if maybe they could send some little snacks for the toddlers and older babies at the group. Well no, they didn't...they sent me sachets of fucking follow on milk ! I don't know what I expected, I completely forgot they did formula and I shouldn't have contacted them really, but still! I didn't really expect them to send formula to a breastfeeding group! There is also a load of bumf in there about weaning at 4 months, which obviously we can't use either, oh and sachets of baby rice which we can't use as we are trying to promote blw! Daisy do you use Hipp formula? I don't want to bin it if someone will use it, but I obviously can't give it to any of my mums.

Tomy have sent me a lovely toy in the post! It just turned up, no email or anything, so that is something else for my raffle stash! I have a lot now. Hopefully we can get a prize draw sorted and get some funds raised. I would love to raise enough to get some of these for the maternity unit at the hospital. The birthing centres have them, but the hospital don't. They look really fab and would really have helped me when I was in hospital.

Check me out, I should join the WI with all my good works!

Bloodystumperlicious · 18/10/2008 19:01

Holly sounds fab, I'm v envious, I would love to be doing something like that. How about contacting [[http://www.rapleyweaning.com/index.php Gillian Rapley for some BLW info, she has a book coming out in November, a copy at your group may encourage other mums to buy it...

Bloodystumperlicious · 18/10/2008 19:02

Sorry BLW, she has a DVD too.

Bloodystumperlicious · 18/10/2008 19:03

Obviously the Hipp bit isn't fab , they are idiots!

HollyWeen · 18/10/2008 19:14

Thanks bumper, I'll definately contact her. I am hoping to get some books for the group too. I'll have a book library and a sling library!

I didn't ran to sound ungrateful then about Hipp sending me stuff. I know they didn't have to send me anything, but they could have sent me something I'll actually use. It was a perfect opportunity to get a new group of mums using their products, silly hipp!

How's all the job stuff with dh going?

Bloodystumperlicious · 18/10/2008 19:26

One rejection, a set of numeracy and literacy tests for a job at the job centre next week. A couple of library jobs to apply for. Not much around. DH said today "well if I still don't have a job by Christmas..." and I was like "er, you will have a job by Christmas, even if it is Christmas temp job, else it's game over for us!" Grrrr. I hate this situation, it makes us argue a lot. And obviously we have no money to spend. We went to Morrisons today counting up as we only has £25 to spend. We did it though!

HollyWeen · 18/10/2008 19:36

Oh bumper, it's the uncertainly that's the worst part isn't it? Maybe he could try a mobile phone shop for over Christmas? Then at least he will get his basic wage plus commision. The commision structure over Christmas is usually excellent as you get your normal commision payment plus gift vouchers. Hope something comes in soon x
