morning all.
i hate mw/hv who make us feel our milk isn't good enough. luckily mine are very pro bf, don't be made to feel that you have to ff. funnily babies can't read and don't know that they are meant to follow a stupid line in a book!!

hv doing her last home visit today, so will be nice to see how much alex has gained. he was 9oz 5lb born, 10lb 91/2oz at 3 weeks and is too long for 0-3 month sleep suits coz he's so long! he's 5 weeks today, that boy's gonna cost be a fortune in clothes.
just getting ready to order my cloth nappies, going for the tots bots, anyone else use these?

heather1980 · 20/11/2008 08:51

sorry about the grammar, not quite with it today

star6 · 20/11/2008 09:34

Heather1980 I have some tots bots and like them but prefer my bambino mio nappies for ease of use and fitting clothes over them
How long is alex? Great that your mw/hv are so pro bf.

4andnotout · 20/11/2008 09:42

Morning all, the day has started badly here My washing machine has not only completely shredded one of my new breastpads but it has frozen withoutout pumping the water out and spinning so have a flooded kitchen and a washing machine full of water It hasn't been rinsing properly either so have just put all of the nappies in a bath of vinegar and water to strip them and then will have to take them to my mums to rinse and wash properly
On a positive note dd4 was weighed yesterday and she has put on a lb in 2 weeks so my milk is obviously good enough this time She is now 8lb 9oz and 4 weeks old. She still has another 2oz before she even matches dd3's birthweight though Right i must tackle some housework whilst dd4 is asleep as i dont want the washing machine man to think im a slattern

heather1980 · 20/11/2008 09:43

he was 58cm born, and never fitted in any newborn clothes. in fact he was over the 100th centile on the chart!
i'm looking to place my order, the nappy adviser recommended the tots bots or the bumbles to me. not sure which to go for. washing isn't a problem as i'm a sahm (well i only work 15hrs a week).
so hard to choose.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/11/2008 09:53

which totsbots heather? I have their fluffles and bamboozles from dd.

Good luck to Joe today.
What nasal drops are they loulou?

for weight gain star.
It sounds as though all of our Oct babies are gaining well.

Ajm - welcome back. Hope that you can keep the pnd at bay. Am with you on the ridiculous amount of night waking.

heather i use flexitots for dd3 and cotton rainbow tots for dd4. I get on with them ok, the new improved tots wraps are good for dd3 but only motherease airflows contain dd4 bf explosions

the cotton tots bots or the bamboozle

4andnotout · 20/11/2008 10:37

Cotton tots are quicker to dry but go rough if not tumble dried occasionally, bamboozles take ages to dry but are softer.

07mumstheword · 20/11/2008 11:21

myjob Poor Naomi I do hope the nasty virus runs its course quickly.

CSWS Freya has had a cold and I've been using "Nasosal" Nasal congestion relief for newborns infants and children. I got it in Boots off the shelf by the Calpol.

I've been reading all your comments about BF V FF and re-useable nappies but I think I am in the minority as I am FF and using disposables. I don't know why I feel like a terrible mother for admitting that but it is working for us so thats the main thing.

4¬out I too am amazed you are thinking about No. 5

Bethoo Glad all is going well for you and your new DP, No. 3 Eeh????

07mumstheword
I use disposables when we go out and about and at night... I'd say I'm 30% re-usable using - trying it out, but not killing myself over it! And as far as BF v FF Ithink it's a very personal decision that everyone makes for themselves and whatever works for you is best for you and your baby! Everyone is different and neither is better or worse I'm sure you're a fantastic mother.

Ekka · 20/11/2008 11:52

myjob poor Naomi - hoping she's feeling much better soon...

07mum do what works for you, we use disposables, I did fleetingly think of reusables, but I just can't see it working for me (too lazy - hence why I bf as there is no sterilisation/making up feeds etc )

heather1980 · 20/11/2008 12:00

07mum i'm far from the earth mother. DD (2) is in disposibles, but they cost a fortune so am looking to swap. and i put her on formula at 7 months as i'd had enough and wanted my body back. ( and to have sex without milk going every where )

star6 · 20/11/2008 12:12

ohhhh no! I put ds for a nap in his moses basket in bedroom and I always drape a folded muslin over just the very top part to shade his eyes from sunlight...etc... it's never come off... I went in because he started crying and muslin was ON HIS FACE!
I will never put it there again! The ONE time I put him on his back and this happens! I hope he doesn't remember that and have nightmares for years to come... how horrible

Aubergenie · 20/11/2008 12:31

Morning ladies,

Congratulations on the weight gains. I've got no idea how much Stanley weighs, as I though the HV would weigh him when she came this week (for her first and only visit), but apparently I have to go to the clinic. So he hasn't been weighed since he was 3 weeks old.

Myjob - Sorry to hear about Naomi, that must have been a real worry. So many of our LOs seem to have colds and coughs. S is getting a bit better now, but this week he's been really restless with what I think are tummy problems. He's growling and straining for ages until he does a very loud poo, and he's also sicking up lots of curdled milk. I don't know if this is a side effect of being bunged up and taking in too much air or a completely unrelated thing. Any ideas?

I'm hoping to make the switch to washable nappies and have sent off for the £30 voucher from my local council. The trouble is, I've got no idea where to start, there are so many different ones out there. How did you decide?

ajm200 · 20/11/2008 13:01

hi, Did the Doctors give yoy anything for your LOs with coughs?

DS has antibiotics for a strep throat and ear infection (that he spits out everytime ).

Amy is now coughing every few mins and I'm wondering if it is worth taking her to the Dr too

SmudgeyDoodle · 20/11/2008 13:08

myjob - Hope DD better today. You'll soon catch up with the jabs etc and you want her to be well so that she'll hopefully take them in her stride. How long do you need to use the inhaler for or is it just til she's better? DD had a similar cold/cough/mucus thing when she was 1 week but it didn't turn into anything else. (Doctor was making rumblings about possibility of pneumonia but turned out ok) She ended up losing weight because of not being able to breathe when feeding but seems much better now. We did the propping up on us or on a pillow so that she didn't drown by lying flat. We also got some of the nasal drops from the doctor (just saline solution CSWS) and used one of those bulb things to get the snot out of their noses (gross but really seemed to work!)
CSWS - do you think the cutting out of dairy is helping DS? Hope it is and that he settles more. Rubbish about DH job too (can't remember if I've posted since) Hope he finds something soon
Star - fab that Q is doing so well and I know what you mean about feeling proud that you have fed them and grown them - pat on the back
4andnotout - hope you get washer sorted soon. We'd sink under piles of washing if ours was broken and I've only got 2 kids!!!
Star don't panic re muslin. DS always used to sleep with it on his face which used to worry me but it's usually quite big weave and they can breathe through it fine. Don't panic yourself but maybe you could peg the muslin up if you want to make sure it's not going to drop down.
We're in disposables 07MTW. I did try reuseables with DS and got a couple to try out but it just didn't work out. (Me being lazy, DH not being keen and DS having a big bum so would have to wear age 1 trousers when 3 months old - maybe slight exaggeration!) Everyone just does their best don't they so don't feel like anyone is judging you, or that you're not good enough. We're all fab (and especially those who are doing all those on very very little sleep - you know who you are!)
Sorry about the epic post. You'll be pleased to knwo that DD absolutely stinks so I'm going to change a nappy.

SmudgeyDoodle · 20/11/2008 13:09

AJM - no, they just gave us the nasal drops and said to come back if she got worse.

ajm200 · 20/11/2008 13:28

Thanks. We have the nasal drops and will keep using them for now..

We are supposed to call her Amelia but DS calls her Amy as Amelia is too difficult for him so I've just got into bad habits
