star myjob was referring to meningitis, what with a rash and crying and fever etc.

All ok here, my sis gone back to London today but has been a great help and we had a lovely eve and even had some wine . I have decided to give Phoebe a formula bottle late at night and at lunch time as she sleeps so much longer but continue BF for the rest. She seems to go 5 hourly with formula and although does sometimes with BF but is on and off in the eve and I feel like I am always getting my boobs out and also at least Dh can help me!

jenwa · 18/11/2008 15:26

myjob I understand where you are coming from with the giving birth as I know how lovely it is once they arrive and the anticipation of seeing them etc but I hate the pain [ouch expression] but know what you mean

star6 · 18/11/2008 17:31

of course
thought... measles, mrsa... of course meningitis! How awful for you myjob!!!
Getting really about returning to work I cried for an hour today. so silly

welcome bouncycastle.

for poor naomi myjob. I wouldn't expect your supply to be ruined at all, but you'll prob find that she develops green poo for a bit, as she'll be getting mostly foremilk.

Jenwa - I presume that you understand and are happy to accept that your formula use could soon spell the end for bf? I've heard/read from so many women who didn't appreciate the impact it could have, especially this early on.

Another dreadful night here, where ds didn't settle for more than 30 mins at a time between frantic feeds.

star - is it Jan that you go back to work? I would be upset about it too.

star6 · 19/11/2008 07:08

oh noooooooooooooo! discovered that breastmilk cannot be frozen while you have and are being treated for thrush. That's a lot of milk to throw away...

star6 · 19/11/2008 07:19

csws what do you mean by frantic feeds? Like he's really hungry or he's upset while feeding?
Poor you!!!
DS slept sporadically last night and got up for the day at 2am (sleeping again now!) but at least gave be 1 1/2 - 3 hours sleep in between. I can't imagine only 30 min spurts. How do you cope with a toddler as well? Do you have family nearby who can help you out?

Thanks, myjob I've been spending time with my friend who will be looking after him so he can get used to her voice, her house...etc. He'll be in excellent hands and all of her attention will be devoted to him. I'll get to see him mid day for a feed... it's just hard imagining not having him with me all the time. I wish things were different.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/11/2008 07:25

Just like he desperately wanted a feed star, but I was trying to do it lying on my back in the dark, and he kept getting his hands in the way, or pushing my breast just when the right bit was headed towards him, so then he'd upset that he hadn't got it yet!

OP posts:
star6 · 19/11/2008 07:32

That's how my ds wakes for feeds, too (although not every 30 min!!)
I struggle too because the bf counselor said he needs to be calm before latching on or else it will not be a good latch, but it's impossible to calm him until he gets it in his mouth - catch 22!
Nipples still so sore and pink, itchier than before now (even though have tablet and cream!!) anyone who has had thrush know how long it takes to get better? And if it's normal for it to get worse first?

Honeymoonmummy · 19/11/2008 13:03

Yes MyJob, I'm afraid I'm one of the culprits for that! Poppy just doesnt stop eating!!! I have now mastered the art of using a laptop while bf'ing so should be easier from here on in!

She is really clingy and wont settle in her moses for long so I want to get a sling. She's only small, she's still under 7lbs at latest weigh in, so I need something for newborns, I was looking at the huggababy or the babasling from looking at the MN reviews, has anyone got any thoughts?? I am quite large and tall so need something to suit. Where do u go to try them on anyway?? There are no slingmeets in our area and mothercare only do the babasling so I'll probably end up with that one just cos I want to try before I buy cos she's so fussy.

jenwa · 19/11/2008 14:08

csws after posting yesterday i read a thread about it on here so was not sure what to do and actually after no formula last night but expressed milk (as due to the formula she had yest afty I had to express and got 3oz in 5mins) she slept from 9-1:15 and 1:30 -7am) so actaully she did well on BF! I do however think if she sleeps better on one rather than the other that is the way I will go as I hate no sleep and if she slept better on formula I would def swap! But at the mo I think its just luck either way! Will keep up with the BF though and maybe just the 1 formula bottle. (sorry that was a waffle!)
Sorry you also having a bad time with Duncan, hope he settles soon.

myjob hope Naomi is better soon. Poor little thing.

star6 · 19/11/2008 15:54

WOW just got back from baby clinic and ds now weighs 9lbs 10 oz!
I know it sounds silly, but I'm really proud of myself for growing him on breast milk from 5lbs 15, then 5lbs 10oz when we got home to 9lbs 10 in just 7 weeks!! That's 4 pounds! He also moved up a bit in percentile now. He still looks itsy bitsy to others and people always ask me "how many DAYS old is your baby?" but I think he looks big and healthy!

I read on the LLL website that thrush does get worse before it gets better when treated (??) but gp said this was not true... not sure who to believe! They also say to treat mom and baby... gp will only treat one with obvious symptoms.

Oh, I also discovered today that the bouncy seat set on "vibrate" puts a baby to sleep!! He fussed for 2 minutes...then was out! He used to be scared of the vibration in there.

ajm200 · 19/11/2008 18:39

Hi ladies.

Hope you are all well and your little ones are thriving. I've not managed to get online much due to some PC issues (not much of an excuse for an ex-computer engineer) and some other stuff that has kept me too busy. DS had two parties last week for his 2nd birthday. Can't believe he's two...

Things are okish here.. being assessed every week for PND by the health vistor since the MWs left. Not PND just very tired and slightly overwhelmed but things are improving.. Amelia now sleeps for an hour between feeds are night.. a great improvement on the 15-30 mins we had at first. DS won't leave DD alone at all and is smothering her with kindness to the point where she screams as soon as she hears him so she is very unsettled but the sling is a god send.

I will try to log onto MN at least twice a week in future to keep up with you all.

ajm200 · 19/11/2008 18:42

Myjob... what an awful scare for you. I'm glad it just turned out to be a cold but that is bad enough in a little one. Hope she's better soon

ajm200 · 19/11/2008 18:45

Honeymoonmummy I've got a kari-me sling and have used it every day for Amelia.. she loves it and sleeps so peacefully in it (about the only time that she does as her brother hates to see her sleeping) I'm going to get a second one soon as the only drawback is the drying time, it can't be tumble dried and I keep getting it dirty

star6 · 19/11/2008 18:55

amelia and duncan need to be introduced to each other

myjob naomi's weight gain sounds fine to me - I really don't think you should worry about it. When dd was born last year she weighed 6lb 14oz, after 2 weeks she was 7lb and by 7.5 weeks she was 8lb 6oz, so less than Naomi has gained so far. The HV was very positive about bf and never worried about the gain (though I did ) so if your hv gets pushy about formula just ignore them, as long as she seems happy (mind you, its easy to say in retrospect!)

Ds, on the other hand is gaining loads so I'm a bit shell-shocked, he now weighs 9lb 6oz, and isn't quite 4 weeks old. He seems HUGE compared to how I remember dd. Mind you, feeding him is frustrating. He bobs on and off the boob and getting him latched on is tricky as he will insist on putting his hands up round his mouth, so its like wrestling an octopus I also have scratch marks on my boobs as he keeps grabbing them by mistake -

We've had a good day today, so I'm in a positive mood at the moment. Went to a toddler group this am and then after lunch dd and I made some xmas decorations with cardboard and lots of messy glitter/sequins etc.... So now dh is clearing up, while I watch Matthew

hiya,

hope you're all well. CSWS - Joe has a cold too as we all have it. He is snuffly and snores really loud. the only was i can clear his nose is to use nasasal drops. he doesn't like them but a few seconds later, big bogies come flying out and his breathing improves no end!!

Terrible night last night (but not Joe) DS1 up from 11pm til 3am with cough, Joe woke 15mins later (just after i got into bed) for feed and went to sleep at 5am and then ds1 woke at 6am with cough again - so had 2 hours sleep all night - aaaaaahhhh.

Joe still catnapping on me during the day as he can't settle in crib at all. I am resigned to waiting until colicky/sicky burps pass (hopefully in a few weeks) he is usually sick as soon as he lies down which wakes him up. wierdly, this doesn't happen at night, no idea why not but i'm very gals as he sleeps well at night (fingers crossed)

loulou33 · 19/11/2008 21:16

off to see paediatrican tomorrow to check Joe's haemoglobin and see if he needs another blood transfusion - here's hoping not

star6 · 20/11/2008 07:25

ekka i have scratches on my breasts too. my own fault for being so scared to cut his nails.
myjob I'm sure your milk is amazing for Naomi. Babies grow at different rates. My bfcounselor said as long as they are gaining it's fine Just ignore formula advice unless naomi seems unhappy/too hungry, which it doesnt sound like. she sounds like a very happy baby

star6 · 20/11/2008 07:27

Good luck today loulou! I hope Joe is doing well
