thansk for all the nice messages but think you're right that is lesson along with not swearing about being sensible.. sad thing really these days.

amberc I can but imagine what type of car your dh has (dh also has leather trousers mobile from bmw) but you're so right re being careful. always drive with locked doors now which is so

sorry to hear of all of you suffering with teething and weaning...

amber sympathies re dh and food poisoning -my dh had it when we were away (am sure that they are more susceptible when they work all hours).. was careful re washing hands etc /keeping away from edie and we were fine - the good/bad thing about food poisoning is that you know that its unlikely to be contagious although sending you sympathy vibes re having to look after two lo. I came back from holiday needing one

by the way have discovered most fab on line baby sitting service -not cheap but all vetted people with 2 years experience plus.. we've got someone booked who has 4 kids and is former midwife/district nurse

Amberc · 03/11/2008 21:26

Just watchjed sky+ Top Gear - how funny was the Lorry thing - I laughed my head off!

poppy34 · 03/11/2008 21:27

libralady sounds like first day went ok - and good thought re extra skills... and also on the head in sand route after aborted weaning

needahand weren't you starting back today?

poppy34 · 03/11/2008 21:28

amberc it was class... esp when poor old james destroyed his piano. but what is going on with hamsters hair?

also daily mail now complaining about clarksons jokes..wtf is going on with bbc vendetta? won't be happy til its wall to wall terry wogan and reruns of keeping up appearances

spongebrainbigpants · 03/11/2008 21:35

Amber and poppy, also watched TG last night - KWYM about Hamster's hair ! Starting to look like sad middle aged man desperate to hold on to his youth!

Loved Hamster and May kicking crap out of Clarkson's drum kit!!

Have to say, while I loathe the DM with a passion you can only dream of, I was a bit at Clarkson's 'jokes' about murdering prostitutes. Considering how recent those Ipswich murders were I was a bit surprised that they felt he could get away with it.

Ask Essie, the hairy trucker from Birmingham, whether she was offended?!

poppy34 · 03/11/2008 21:37

she'll be too busy singing king of the road and eating her yorkie sponge.. agree joke was near the knuckle but thats clarkson

spongebrainbigpants · 03/11/2008 21:45

Lol at the DM story about Clarkson crashing his truck and was it a "sensible thing to do"?!

Er, no, I don't think the point of TG is for them to do sensible things is it?!!

Nice to see Clarkson in pain though - couldn't have happened to a nicer man!

hedgehog1979 · 03/11/2008 21:53

sbbp just had to comment on your weaning Alex @18, DH has pointed out that you have missed off one of the vital food groups of all male students ......

KEBABS

spongebrainbigpants · 03/11/2008 21:57

How could I forget kebabs?!! Do you think I could incorporate those into BLW so that he gets used to the taste and has plenty of practise before he arrives at uni?!!

Can you imagine the nappies after kebabs?!!

spongebrainbigpants · 03/11/2008 22:01

Just posted a new pic of Alex standing up in his cot! Do you think he's ready for a bed now?!!

Essie3 · 03/11/2008 22:04

...destination Bangor Maine...*
Sorry, what was that now? One of my mates at Eddie Stobart sounded his horn and I missed the conversation.

Sponge, I LOVE that tea cosy! Alas, although Poppy's instructions made sense, I have never in my life casted on. I tried following 3 sets of online instructions (2 of them being videos), and DH and I spent a good half an hour at it, but I can still only manage a slipstitch. 5 degrees between us, and we can't cast on. It has to be rocket science.

*I genuinely do know most of the words to King of the Road!

Libra where were you? Did we have this conversation already?

OP posts:
spongebrainbigpants · 03/11/2008 22:20

Essie, knitting is actually harder than rocket science and you have to be extremely intelligent to master it . . . !

Shame you're not coming on Monday or hedgehog, poppy and me could teach you to cast on - we'd speak very slowly of course so you could keep up!

It's honestly sooooo easy when you know how.

katyjo · 03/11/2008 22:57

I'm glad I'm not on the weaning threads, thinking I will try blw but the worry of choking does put me off.

Welcome back BDQ glad your getting a bit of a break, hope to see you at the next glasgow meet up.

Libra Glad to hear work wasn't too bad, I also haven't started weaning yet as Mia isn't a big eater either.

Parofleurmapu · 04/11/2008 08:05

Morning!

Hehe Amber We had a lot of those at the beginning Theyve calmed down now!!

Neenz - I agree with BLW dont know how you know how much they've had!! And although does pick up the stuff and put in mouth and some goes in I just dont think its enough.
And re sleeping its awful here too last night she refused the dream feed at 10.30 but woke at 2am to eat and then slept in 35 min spurts from then to 6am Its been like this since her cold arrggghh Ive no idea why! WEe tried everything more food, less food, teeting gel, covers, gro bag, more clothes, less naps, more naps Nothing works!!!!hehe Im sure we will find it soon wondering if its there stomachs adjusting to solids?

Glad first days back at work went well xx

Parofleurmapu · 04/11/2008 08:07

Should have said i agree RE BLW NOt with

bitofadramaqueen · 04/11/2008 08:56

Morning all. Just had quick skim of posts - didn't realise you were all mad TG fans! I can't stand it but don't hold it against me!

Have had unbroken night of sleep - yay! Apparently he woke up twice but settled himself. Last night we gave him his 4 month plus dummy, and put it in when we put him back to bed after the dream feed.
Essie maybe I can bring out my own dummy book and we can be to the dummy business what AK and BLW are to weaning . Of course, he'll probably be back to the usual wakenings tonight!

Got to dash - I've got an eye test and DH taking S to his swimming lesson.

debinaustria · 04/11/2008 08:58

sponge at alex in his cot, maybe time to move the mattress down to the lowest level?

crap night here too, e crashed out at 7.30 after only half a boob, there was no waking him, i fed him at 11.30, then he woke at 2.00, 4.00, 5,00 AARGH

Neenztwinz · 04/11/2008 09:20

That's bad, Deb! Esther didn;t sleep thru again either I heard her at 1.30 but she went back to sleep, then I heard her at 3.30, the thing is she wasn't crying, just making noises so I left her for about 20 mins but she was keeping me awake (she is very loud - she is across the hall and both doors closed but can still hear her) so I went in and she was in there beaming away wide awake. So I fed her and put her back in the cot - still wide awake - and she went back to sleep. But she woke again at 6 . Theo slept through though . Can't work out what it is cos she slept through for so long, it is only since starting solids that she hasn't

The weaning threads are really pissing me off. If you wean before six months and don't use blw it's like you can't ask a quuestion cos all you get is 'if they can't pick it up and eat it themselves they are not ready for it'. Bollocks. They make you feel like a second-class citizen/child abuser for using purees.

Re microwaves, we managed for years without one but you have to be organised with taking stuff out of the freezer. we just used oven to reheat food. We have one now but try not to use it for baby food cos it destroys immune-boosting properties (apparantly). I take frozen purees out of freezer and put them in saucepan on low heat and that defrosts it.

reusable wipes - please let me know how you do it - do you use water? I bought loads of flannels from ikea in hope of using them as wipes but it got too messy dipping them in water etc. I find baby wipes so much easier. Since I stopped using cotton wool, changing nappies got so much easier (and with two lots to do and using cloth I needed it to)

Neenztwinz · 04/11/2008 09:20

Libra forgot to say welcome back and hope work goes OK.

spongebrainbigpants · 04/11/2008 09:49

Neenz, IKWYM about the weaning threads - they are ridiculously puritanical about the whole 26 wks/BLW thing. One poor woman actually started a thread for "early" weaners where they could chat without being judged and it was immediately hijacked!

Tbh though I found the bf/ff threads exactly the same - if I ever ventured on for advice about formula it was basically "well if you weren't such a lazy cow and bf your baby you wouldn't have this problem" . I gave up - you guys gave me impartial and non-judgemental advice so I'll stick with that!

Parofleurmapu · 04/11/2008 09:50

Oh Neenz and debs seems we were all at it last night!

Fleur has just slept now for an hour but is really grouchy on waking!!!

Yep Neenz agree with threads would really love to ask questions but a)theyĺl have me for starting early and b) for not doing BLW Have posted bout her sleeping patterns but if anyone says anything bout her being weaned at 5mths then im out of there

RE micorwave I agree ive been really lazy and not organized so going to try and organiza better as i dont like using microwave to heat up and defrost really

Parofleurmapu · 04/11/2008 09:51

Yep sponge they are dangerous threads too im staying well out of those after last weeks sheenanigans!!!

pureeandpearls · 04/11/2008 09:59

Have not ventured onto the weaning threads and you have put me off now....happy to try and answer questions if you have them though. I might never have been a mother before but I spent 11 years weaning other people's kids. And I can hardly judge as babypearls has been on goo since 41/2 months and is loving it. She now sleeps through from 7-7 and I'm thinking that food had something to do with it.....

BIG LOVE TO YOU ALL xxxxxx

goingfor3 · 04/11/2008 10:20

DS didn't sleep to well last night but was better than usual or maybe I was so tired I was less disturbed by it. My mum is taking him for a walk at the moment which is lovely.

I loved the idea of BLW but when I gave him some broccoli to suck he literally only had the juice from it so I was glad to top him with with puree. I'm looking forward to him being six months so I can introduce some more exciting foods like cheese and meat and food with gluten. Re choking, ds seems to have a good gag reflex and has coped with eating banana by sucking it though I did have it on my lap just incase!
