That's me back from this afternoon's excursions. DH on leave for a few days so making the most of the time to keep up with this thread again.

Hello Laura nice to know you guys still here.

Aberdeen I think I really have to gear myself up for dummy weaning. Unfortunately, Essie your book isn't out and I've already given S the bigger dummies!

Also pleased to have some weaning chat on here. at your swanky new library HH. LOL at pureed crackers Essie. I've been reading up on the annabel karmel meal planner, but need to amend it slightly to fit with S's gina routine. Gina seems to work with 3 bottles a day totalling 600mls once 3 solid meals established, but AK has 4 bottles totalling 600mls.

Thanks for tips on weaning products paro and G43.I thought I might make some purees for the freezer later this month - how many ice cube trays do you reckon are needed?

goingfor3 · 03/11/2008 16:57

BDQ I like these ice cube traysand these vital baby spoons as they have a lovely soft tip - you can buy the spoons speratley, I have the same brand of bowls and they are good too but any bowl would do!

goingfor3 · 03/11/2008 16:59

I have three ice cube tray so just tend to cook a couple of diffent things at a time and then tip them into a food bag the next day to reuse the trays. Today two medium mangos filled one tray and I left out a portion for today and one for tommorow.

poppy34 · 03/11/2008 17:02

agree that better to chat weaning here where its safe - we're some way off yet so its good that others going first.

got out to go xmas shopping (got most of what I needed) but made tactical error on train out by asking young girl to take her feet off the seats (and did it without swearing which I'm practising not doing given how soon dd will pick it up)..only to be threatened by girls companion (apparnetly if she'd not been there he'd have done me and its people like me that create all those stories of violence etc on the news... then added he was studying law and there was no law against putting feet on seats -err now but there is a byelaw of train operating company). felt bit shaky afterwards as if I had done something wrong (ok maybe I should have kept my mouth shut but this kind of thing drives me mad )

All it taught me was to keep my big mouth shut (esp as had edie with me ) but does make me a bit about people today. Maybe its time that I started listening to radio two etc

aberdeenhiker · 03/11/2008 18:42

Essie I make patchwork quilts too - and since so do my mother and mother-in-law we're actually at the stage where I need to rotate them through the house or some of them would live in storage! I've often thought of making quilts as a home-business, but financially it would be a very poor choice - I think I calculated I'd make less than a pound an hour!

poppy what a crap experience for you on the train! How horrible!

And after saying we were weaning, that's three nights in a row Fraser's not been keen on the cereal. I might hold off for another week and see if he's more interested later. Basically I'm lazy and hate making food my kids turn up their noses at!

Essie3 · 03/11/2008 18:59

No way Aberdeen! A fellow quilter! I was only joking about selling quilts really because you're right, it's not a money spinner really because the fabrics are expensive (unless you get old shirts ). A friend once saw a quilt in a shop for £50, and said could I make one for my goddaughter (her daughter) because £50 is expensive. I explained that it's quite expensive to buy the fabrics but if she had some pretty cotton dresses etc, I could make a quilt. She brought me a bag of clothes including tracksuit bottoms, t-shirts, 2 jumpers and a coat...
I too have more quilts than beds, and my mum is also a quilter. I now have a rule - gifts only!

Thanks G43 - I hadn't thought about tipping the frozen cubes out . Had visions of a freezer full of silicon ice cube trays [gri]

poppy what a horrible experience! Instead of studying law (doubtful) perhaps he should be taking classes in manners and citizenship. I know what you mean about biting your lip and not saying the wrong thing when you have a LO with you. Having a baby has done wonders for road rage

aberdeenhiker · 03/11/2008 19:31

Essie if only we could make money at it - I love the handquilting, but it's not very compatible with toddlers so I've not made any for a while now. If only someone would pay me a fortune to stay home and quilt (and I could put the boys in nursery part time). And I'm guessing your goddaughter didn't get a quilt I should be making one for my godson's christening next month but he'll have to settle for a bought gift instead...

speaking of which - any ideas for lovely christening gifts that a boy might actually like having when he grows up?

debinaustria · 03/11/2008 19:38

Leaking boobs - I still use breastpads and like you Sybil - I only know which boob to feed from because it's harder than the other!

Someone asked about sizing on the DaisyRoots shoes - I'm sorry but it's been nearly 7 years since I bought any, but there is a sizing chart on the website.

Paro - lol at having enough puree for all the babies - I was just the same with ds1 and 2, it's like an obsession - making sure I had enough puree for about a month in the freezer, then by the time we were getting to the end of it they would be ready for the next stage - with more lumps.

Poppy - at your train incident

ethan's crashed out after only half a boob, I've put him to bed - wonder how long he'll last?

debinaustria · 03/11/2008 19:40

AH - a wooden pirate chest for all his treasures.

spongebrainbigpants · 03/11/2008 19:44

Essie, have emailed you a photo of my tea cosy to inspire you!

hedgehog, the outfit sounds fab - I'm knitting a footie mascot at the moment for the NCT baby I drew in our Secret Santa!

poppy, that's awful about your experience of the train - I despair of people nowadays . I used to be v bolshy and tell people off for all sorts of things (I actually had an altercation with a guy on a tube once who was smoking - he refused to stop so I pulled the cigarette out of his hand and stamped on it, he was so shocked he didn't say a word!) however I do tend to keep my mouth shut now because some people in this country are so bloody vile that I don't know what they would do to Alex in revenge .

Hope you're ok.

debinaustria · 03/11/2008 19:56

new photos on my profile taken this morning before school

bitofadramaqueen · 03/11/2008 19:58

Deb it was me re: the shoes. Thanks, I'll measure the length of his feet and compare with the size chart to see what would be the best to get him.

Also agree a wooden pirate chest would be a great present - my son's baptism is in a few weeks can I send you an invite?

debinaustria · 03/11/2008 19:59

Looks like Ethan can sit up - he slid down as I was taking the photo!!

Amberc · 03/11/2008 20:02

Poppy That's so awful about the train - you just have to be so careful these days. DP got cut up by a car yesterday and was going to do that thing at the lights where one tries to go faster than the other (they had a little hatchback and we have a BMW which i call The Tank). There is no doubt we would have won but I did ask DP if he had bullet proof windows to which he stated no and then I told him not to be so f*king stupid then as sorry to stereotype but there was a black guy who looked like he was rolling a splif in the front seat and I live in SE London!

DP has come home early with the most terrible case of food poisoning. I have had to spend ages disinfecting the loo. Not great after Luke's poo incident yesterday. Means I have to do the 11pm and then all the night wakings and the morning wake up too. I will be K-Nackered tomorrow. Blimey I sound so unsmpathetic!

Very impressed by knitting and quilting. I can't do anything like that as I get bored after 5 minutes. I made a pair of child's shorts in school when I was 13 though which came out alright!

I keep saying I'm going to start weaning but I always stop the minute I get a dodgy nappy. Should I do that or should I carry on? Are dodgy nappies normal? I keep thinking it must be because he's not ready yet.

debinaustria · 03/11/2008 20:03

would love to come bdq!! Thanks...maybe a little too far though Thought of it as I was looking at this catalogue today with ds2 , piratechest

Amberc · 03/11/2008 20:03

Lovely pics deb!

Parofleurmapu · 03/11/2008 20:18

Evening all

Debs- i know i keep seeing all recipes in AK book and thinking ooooh must make that and that think Fleur eats better than i do!! saying that some of recipes for older chd look yummy!

Grrrr at guy on tube Poppy so rude, i always think i was never like that as a youngster!!!

I knit but only scarfs as cant progress any further and re patchwork no way!! In school everyone made a patchwork cushion i ended up with one flower!! I do make handmade cards though and do sell them, also make candles, decorate picture frames, jewellery etc and make all my own bday pressies for friends. If i wasnt a teacher think i would have a craft shop

Amber i like you was worried bout state of Fleurs nappies but we have them in all shapes colours and sizes!! Now sometimes 3 times a day I reckon that i she is happy gaining weight etc She is fine. Are lukes really runny? like diarrohea? Sorry TMI!!!

Right Dp has just bought dinner to table off to eat xxx

spongebrainbigpants · 03/11/2008 20:21

Deb, lovely pics and Ethan looks sooo grown up in that 2nd one - can't believe he's two days younger than Alex!

Amber, think 'dodgy' nappies are very normal after weaning as they adjust to all the different foods. As to whether you carry on or not, can't advise. Every time I think about weaning my head explodes! Just as I'd convinced myself about BLW been reading the weaning threads and now sh*tting myself about gagging/choking .

Do you think Alex will survive on milk for the next 18 years, then he can wean himself on beer and curry at university?!

aberdeenhiker · 03/11/2008 20:28

deb great idea! thanks! and my godson lives in Germany so I'm loving the link!

Amberc · 03/11/2008 20:30

SB I'm the same - keep thinking how nice it would be to feed him, then get a few runny nappies and stop so am not at all looking forward to it as I am a worrier. Paro yes explosive out the back and sides nappies!!

debinaustria · 03/11/2008 20:30

Sponge - think I'm going to do a mix of BLW and purees, The choking/gagging thing puts me off doing full BLW. Lol at weaning at age 18!

debinaustria · 03/11/2008 20:36

AH - Jako do some lovely things I could spend a fortune!!

Neenztwinz · 03/11/2008 21:02

Love the idea of BLW but my two have not picked up a single thing yet. If we were doing BLW they would not be eating anything (and be feeding from me constantly no doubt. Also a bit scared of the gagging thing. I also think the MN mantra that 'milk is all they need until they are one' is wrong. Or millions of babies have been eating for no reason for hundreds of years .

My two have started waking in the night . think it might be teeth. Theo woke at 2.45am and didn't go back after a feed which is unheard of, fed him again to try to get him off an he still wouldn't go, so gave him 2.5ml Medised - he was chewing on his hand so figured teething. He eventually went to sleep at 3.45, then Esther woke at 4 . So I was up for 1.5 hours! !!

Bedtime routine is still working well tho! (Can;'t help but think the two are linked tho as their nighttime sleep has gone to pot since they started going to bed at 7pm.)

Poppy, can't believe you were spoken to like that. 'No law against putting your feet on the seats...'?

libralady · 03/11/2008 21:23

Bloody hell you lot can talk!

I'm never going to be able to keep up now I'm back at work.

First day went OK, despite endless phone calls to our techie people in Hungary trying to get my systems all up and running again. Have most of my functinalities, although getting connected to my printer is on a 10 hour response!

Have also found out that I am to change job roles. Have been dealing with redundancy for 6 years and am now going to be dealing with data protection instead. nice to add another bow to my arrow so to speak. And with my previous experience in Payroll, I am getting a complete spectrum in HR which hopefully will put me in good stead when I am eventually made redundant. Have also thought about a career change into either being a teaching assistant or reception teacher. Need to do some more research though.

Had a great holiday in North Wales and it was lovely with the snow.

Head in the sand here with weaning. L has shown no interest whatsoever and is stll only on 5 6oz bottles a day.

Hope everyone is OK and I'll try to keep up!
