Seeing as it's a quiet time...

OP posts:

Amberc · 31/10/2008 12:18

Passive agressive is the kind of bullying which you can pass off as non threatening. They are the kind of people that I want to punch in the face - would ratehr have agressive agressive!

needahand · 31/10/2008 13:27

poppy some people on other thread have anger management issues. The other day I innocently replied to the thread of someone with a baby who had a cold only to be abuse by another poster because of what I said (which was quite innocent). This poster must have scrared the sh*t out of people because the OP didn't get any answers after that! Amd you are right, in France we make bottles with mineral waters which is a big no no here (apparently too much salt) but funny enough most french babies I know survive..so don't worry about it, sometimes it feels like people are fretting over nothing.

Re prams, the problem is you never know what you will need until you have the baby and even so, soemtimes you need change (I have three prams at the moment, a maclaren for DD, a bugaboo + bugy board for SJ and an out and about for both)

Can't believe this is my last day as a regular poster. I will miss you all (but will lurk as often as possible). I cannot believe it was more than a year since we were sick, worried about MC etc...

Sorry about long post

Parofleurmapu · 31/10/2008 14:08

Ok amberc!!!! thanks dont think i was passive aggressive though was I? So please dont punch me even if it is virtual.!!!!

yep agree with you needahand I was merely stating what I do here and the mineral water we use is no sodium content didnt expect to get such an attack back!!

Oh and hope you do post every so often

Essie tssst to DH think you should get it anyhow and good luck with winning!!!

needahand · 31/10/2008 14:12

blimey, just read tyhat thread and it is scary!

needahand · 31/10/2008 14:12

I had never heard of the guidelines and sj is my second dc

needahand · 31/10/2008 14:17

oh and paro how dare you try and give an insight into othr countries' practices (even if apparently they are wrong) this is an english/england forum go in the naughty corner(being sarcastic just in case someone with sense of humour failure came across this and thought I meant that which I don't)

aberdeenhiker · 31/10/2008 14:37

hi - that thread is terrifying - why are people so nasty?

We had another bad night so DS1 is parked in front of the TV watching a Thomas the train movie - something I swore I'd never do. Oh well, needs must.

Had to drop the price on our house today as our crap neighbour sold his for a song after renting it out for a year and forcing us to live next to horrible tenants. Once his house went for £10K less than the going rate, all sorts of homes in our area have started dropping their prices whereas before we were all holding tight at a reasonable (but definitely reduced from 2007) level. We thought about taking the house off the market for six months but then we'd have to pay to relist it.... I'm too sleep-deprived to deal with this calmly!

ThePenguinProject · 31/10/2008 15:05

That thread is scary, but sorry Essie so is that sheep!

Amberc · 31/10/2008 15:55

Paro - I meant the horrid person who called people thick and told them to go back to bounty - not you!!! Clearly I am aggresive agresive!!

Amberc · 31/10/2008 15:59

I wonder if anyone's 'virtually' offered anyone out on MN (for non Londoners means asked them to step outside for a fight ). I wonder if they set up another thread to have a verbal punch up!

ThePenguinProject · 31/10/2008 16:29

LOL Amber - instead of a meet ups thread you could have a punch ups thread.

Rolf · 31/10/2008 17:04

gutted about dr who

dd1 gaving tantrum

none of my children ever rolled over...

Essie3 · 31/10/2008 17:16

What??? When can a sheep ever be scary? Even if it is scary, Iestyn can't possibly grow up with a fear of sheep living where I do. (That's Anglesey, not Tooting, obviously.) So I think I have another argument to throw at DH. (I never win arguments, living with a barrister!)

When I was born, my grandfather, the finest sheep farmer on Anglesey, gave me two sheep. Real ones! Pedigree Texels. Excellent sheep, and they paid my way through college.

Iestyn could take that sheep to college. He might get bullied though.

Essie3 · 31/10/2008 17:17

p.s. Paro I don't want to win £7000 now, I want to win the silly millions on the Euro millions. It's mine, I tell you, mine!

poppy34 · 31/10/2008 17:25

Lol at this thread amber if there is a virtual punch up thread, I'll hold your coat
essie really interesting re halloween traditions (remember my mum telling me about them too from her time in wales) so much better than trick or treat whcih seems very american...sorry iestyn being trying (also just realised am sure his second name is male version of my sisters name). and real sheep for birth presents..so much better than soft ones -would your dh rather you got a live one than a rocking one

had dh/dsc home today so lots of entertainment for edie and free time for me (soo nice to do exercise class and walk there/back witout baby).

needahand am looking as you as the vanguard - will be back at work myself before I know it so you can do virtual hand holding when the time comes.

Off to check out hte scary thread now -paro ... hardly dare look but you're right that some people so ott here aberdeen (Sorry to hear about the house)

ThePenguinProject · 31/10/2008 18:00

Essie - See here, I rest my case.

Off to buy euro lottery ticket now, if I win I will buy all the babies on this thread their own pet sheep.

Parofleurmapu · 31/10/2008 18:18

OMG PP Sheep are scary!!!

Ah thats ok amber then !!!!

But think mught have to use your virtual punch up thread cause Essie that moneys not yours its Mine!!!

I dont love sheep as much but i do have a thing for cows (now that makes me sound a wierdo!) but you dont get cows grazing in the fields over here and its something i miss. when landing in ENgland people on the plane always think im mad when i shout looking out the window ooh cows and trees! Look!

Poppy step away- that thread is dangerous!

aberdeenhiker · 31/10/2008 18:50

I do field work on the west coast of Scotland and it seems like everyone there hates the sheep - long histories....

Both boys slept for two hours today and I did work for the first time in ages. Going back to work doesn't seem so strange when I'm more in touch with what's happening. That being said, I'm not back until May this time (last time I went back when DS1 was 6 months so I know how people here are feeling!) which seems like ages away.

poppy34 · 31/10/2008 18:55

you're right - am at what they said to you - stayign here now where we can play nicely

essie saw this article on bbc and thought of you link

and agree aberdeen - have been in once, periodically checking email etc - so doesnt seem quite as alien to think of work.

hedgehog1979 · 31/10/2008 19:10

Evening all, Have run out of things for Trick or Treaters now - having given them all my alpen bars, go ahead bars and emptied the freezer of Ice Creams so am sitting quietly hoping that no one else knocks on the door.
poppy I saw that story on the BBC news channel and instantly thought of Essie
I too am more of a cow person (my GP's did have a dairy farm) but love sheep as well, infact think if anyone asks what Isaac wants for Christmas might ask for a couple of sheep or failing that this
I have to agree that some of the threads on here can be scary, but I tend to only look at this one and AIBU coz some of it is so funny.
Isaac is currently lying on the floor with a Pizza Hut baseball cap on as his halloween costume (courtesy of DH)

Parofleurmapu · 31/10/2008 19:23

AH Glad you managed to get some time even if was a bit of work.

Re trick or treating not a really big thing here but we have some stuff in for the few people that come round.

2 years ago i was on saling trip with Yr6 and DP was home alone. Some kids came round as i was on the phone to him he went off dealt with them and came back saying "ive given them those chocs in the fridge" me: aaaahhhhh they are full of 10% alcohol so he put the phone down and ran off after them and got them back just in case!!!!

Essie3 · 31/10/2008 19:46

Hahaha, loved the scary sheep, and also the sign - I collect those personally! My favourite was a badly translated 'Open Man Hole' warning. You can work out how horrific the translation was.

Hedgehog I also handed out some healthy (but contain nuts!) snacks here - tracker bars, 2 between 5. But as I got the trick every time - Iestyn woke up every time the doorbell rang and by 6 was screaming loudly and endlessly. Now I'm against halloween and I wasn't before!

OP posts:
spongebrainbigpants · 31/10/2008 20:27

Paro, at you being accused of being passive aggressive! I didn't take your post to be like that at all - some people just want to start an argument!

Essie, love the rocking sheep but at those prices I'm not surprised your dh (or should I say 'Tim' !) has banned you from getting one! Don't you know we're in a recession?!!

And yes, he would get bullied if he took that to university!

Amber, lol at aggressive aggressive, but totally agree with you!

needahand, we'll miss you .

PP, that trailer is hilarious - please please please tell me it was supposed to be a comedy!

Talking of comedy, PMSL at the Welsh translation - this is absolutely hilarious!!

As for other threads - some of the people on here are soooo nasty and bullying it's truly unbelievable. People feel very powerful in cyberspace don't they, where they are completely anonymous (notice that most of the bullies on MN don't reveal any personal details about themselves) and can get away with saying anything they like without comeback. They're probably all sad friendless people in real life - at least that's what I tell myself when I get flamed for some innocent remark!

Upsidedowncake · 31/10/2008 20:31

Sorry I haven't been around. I've been away staying at a friend's cottage in Oxfordshire - complete with Cotswold stone, thatch, and no central heating ... it was gorgeous though and C made a snowman! You've all been very busy and it's taken me ages to catch up.

Amber, sorry about the job, I really hope something will come along soon. Are your work offering you any opportunities (other than working for the w++ker?)

Can't believe that others of you are back to work and so many people are talking about it.

Penguin, a friend saw two nurseries in S Wimbledon and one was crap, one fab. I can ask her which one she went for. SHe got in at relatively short notice too.

Greenfairy, welcome back, and hope going back to work OK.

Neenz, your twins must be nearly six months old! RE work, did you abandon your freelance plans?

Loving all the sheep chat ... Essie, can't believe no-one made any jokes about the Welsh ...

Started eating dairy again this week and stopped the infacol as D reached our months. Result ... misery and screaming half the night. DS has been having a grwoth spurt and been waking up too. We were supposed to be going to a Hallowe-en party but wimped out after being awake half the night! (plus I don't want to inflict them on a babysitter at the moment.)

ThePenguinProject · 31/10/2008 20:48

Welcome back UDC - yes please re: nursery info. I am interviewing Nanny/Childminder lady next week, but it'd be ideal to have as many options as poss.

Sponge - I highly recommend the film, it's a mad kiwi thing that is very funny, although it really does get a bit gruesome...
