I know, full time working sucks! I miss the baby but I am too knackered to really enjoy her

Still, she is rather gorgeous at the moment. I have to say categorically that I really didn't enjoy most of the first 3 4 6 7 or 8 months , awful isn't it? Maybe I have PND, maybe I am just a miserable old goat . But now she is just positively lovely, so much fun, so affectionate, so clever (natch ). Yesterday I let her climb the wrong way up a slide just coz I was so impressed that she could! Of course it's not going to go down well when she is a bit older and I have to try and stop her...she's a bit of a monkey like your DD daisy .

Ohforfoxsake · 28/09/2008 19:12

JBM. I hope you are OK x

Daisy - I think that sounds sensible.

Bumper - IME amongst my friends, there seems to be a divide - some really don't get on with the baby stage, others just love toddlerdom.

This isn't me, I love the new baby stage, but really find toddlers hard work - from about 13 months to 2.5/3 I just can't relax and really don't like it very much. All that toppling over, putting fingers in drawers, pulling their nappies off, demanding, getting angry, learning, having personalities, no, no, no. My LOs have definately peaked in my eyes Its all downhill from now

Of course there is that development and progress they make, walking, talking (or running away from me and answering back!).

They should have a frowning grumpy git emoticon on here!

Ohforfoxsake · 28/09/2008 19:13

NATTY if you are lurking - hope you are OK.

{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} just in case you need them.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 28/09/2008 19:18

Not awful, Bumper, honest. I've got a friend who also disliked the "baby" stage and only really got into it as her children grew personalities. Of course, she still loved them from the start, she just found it boring and a bit of a chore.

JBM and Daisy.

Just washing a load of stuff that Jamlet's too big for ready to try to sell at an NCT sale in 2 weeks time. Am not looking forward to the ironing - 2 machine loads full of tiny stuff. I just don't do ironing, but I know they want it all pressed, so I guess I'm just going to have to knuckle down.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/09/2008 19:21

I'm great with babies too foxy.......it's going rapidly downhill from here though. Although apart from the tired grumpiness today DD has been a wee peach at our friends and looking very very cute.

DS on t'other hand.......it took about 45mins to do his numeracy homework tonight and I wanted to put my head in the oven by the time he was done. I am not a natural teacher

LackaDAISYcal · 28/09/2008 19:22

ironing baby stuff is easy though jammy. I love ironing little things.

OP posts:
Bumperlicious · 28/09/2008 19:35

I made DH do the ironing while I did the labels last time we did a sale.

I think I am lucky as DD for the most part is fairly self contained and happy to potter around with her toys and books during the day, and our flat lends itself well to her roaming around without too much damage. Though it is becoming a little harder as more and more things come into her reach, hence the 6,000 baby wipes all over her room today. As long as you can hear her chattering to herself we are fine, she's like those WW2 doodlebug bombs though, when she goes quiet that's when you have to worry!

LackaDAISYcal · 28/09/2008 19:37

lol at your doodlebug analogy bumper.......that is so true

At the carboot today they had a mobile butcher. Now I am usually scared of butchers coz I don't really cook joints or odd cuts of meat, but decided to be brave and ended up with 3 gammon joints and 4 big, beautiful sirloin steaks for a tenner. I don't think I have ever in had sirloin before! I wouldn't normally have got them, but it was a big crowd he had one of those microphones and I knew I wanted gammon as it was cheap and just said "whatever else you'll do me for a fiver". We looked in sainsbos and they were selling one sirloin steak for about 5 quid!

We are back to taking cash out for the week now. Didn't manage it for very long before but we have to now. Got a load of fruit and veg and eggs at the car boot sale too, bread in the breadmaker so we are doing alright so far.

Right, going to go and see DH now. My half an hour to myself has turned into an hour and a half!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 28/09/2008 20:05

I love gammon, and it is good for economy. We usually boil a gammon joint and make bacon and lentil soup with the stock and left-over gammon pieces the next day.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/09/2008 20:25

meat bargains sound good bumper. We have a really good market in Leeds and pre DCs when we were skint and DH on the dole we used to get a huge meat pack for a tenner that would last all week. Unfortunately it's in town and too much like hard work to get there with the DCs.

I'm off, streaming eyes does not for easy typing/reading make.

later

bumper....there's usually someone around at lunchtime if you can get online

sputnik...if you check in later; I did the paypal payment on Tuesday, but my account is saying that it is "unclaimed". Not sure what that means.

OP posts:
Sputnik · 28/09/2008 20:59

You're right, I have to go int my account and cnfirm it all

Ohforfoxsake · 28/09/2008 21:02

That sounds fab Bumper about the car boot success! I definately think thats the way to go. Wimbledon market (at the Dog Track) is great on a Sunday. There's a lot to be said for it. Less packaging, better value for money. And I think Lidl beef is better than Sainsburys - in my taste test which involved slow cooking it in a whole bottle of the cheapest red wine I could find. Lidl beef and wine did the job much better. The only thing I wouldn't buy is chicken, cos cheap chicken is pretty gross. But I will buy a whole one and do a roast, a risotto and a curry. Get me! All Nigella!

I'm much more careful these days, now I use all the left overs, cook from scratch, there's just so many of us now. I think I'm finally getting into the swing of it, although the amount of milk we are getting through is mad.

Ohforfoxsake · 28/09/2008 21:04

I'm off now. I have to plug my laptop into the router-thingy to get internet as wireless has ceased to work (again).

And I sliced my thumb open earlier and it really, really hurts. I want to weep its that painful!

night you lovely lot

justbeme · 28/09/2008 21:04

Good luck at the sale Jammy - you'll have to let us know how much you make. Is it an NCT one? How much do they take off you for commission?

Bumper, you are joining us Car Booters at last !!

Mind you, I didnt leave the house all weekend. Even though it was a beautiful day for a Car Boot! I do feel shit. and DD1 was here. she doesnt mind not going out - she only finished washing her hair at 1400 today after a lie in, but i find it really hard as whatever i suggest she doesnt want to do - ie
Car boots, walks with the dog. There's only so much shopping I want to do - I dont like swimming nor the cinema really. God knows what Im going to do over the winter with her. I suppose its only going to get worse over the next few yrs.

I want a F* off and leave me alone - I just want to go to bed emotion. (sorry!)

IamRiallyindisguise · 28/09/2008 21:04

mmm gammon, bumper and daisy on bargain meat. we used to get a joint every week for free when DH was supplied by a certain butcher. second the soup idea, we are having roast badly-treated chicken tomrrow and "roast" it in 2 inches of water so the stock is there straight away (rather than faffing boiling bones), bung in diced veg and soaked broth mix and you're away (Tuesdays tea). I am on a freezer emptying mission this week, so food will be weird. (DS2 is already hoping for an invite to grannies on Thursday for a birthday tea - hers)

so, new tiny baby on Heartbeat and lots of thin graceful people on Strictly[envy.

IamRiallyindisguise · 28/09/2008 21:10

does anyone know if Aldi sell those chinese style noodle snacks in polystyrene tubs (not pot noodle)? I got a blue dragon one to day from the freezer shop and I love them (Msons used to sell them), if I can find them cheap enough I could do SW again...

Sputnik · 28/09/2008 21:22

Yeah markets are great, I should really get back into the habit as fruit and veg are cheaper. I spent loads of money at the supermarket this week and, apart from some fish, I am struggling to remember what on exactly.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 29/09/2008 08:04

JBM - yes it is an NCT sale, and the blurb they've sent says I get 70% of takings, unless I volunteer to help in which case I get 75%.

LittleMissNorty · 29/09/2008 08:39

Hello

Glad you had a good holiday Jammy......we're off on Friday and need to spend today sorting out.....NOT on MN.....got so much to do!

Arrgghhh....big cook little cook is on....must be time for DDs nap

Later x

HellHathNoFury · 29/09/2008 09:49

Best way to kill rats:

Buy dog treats called 'shmackos'
Buy rat trap
use treats as bait

after 2 months of trying to catch and kill the blighters, the dog treats did it.
We have caught 8 so far in 3 days.

LackaDAISYcal · 29/09/2008 10:27

morning all.

bleargh in the daisy house this morning . I have swallowed razor blades in the night (or it feels like that), pounding head and runny nose. DD has really runny nose, is very very grumpy and keeps sicking up mucuous . I've put her back to bed and dosed her up on nurofen but she is not happy. Shite night as well, seeing every hour (and often half hour) on the clock as well as being kept awake by a police helicopter for over an hour . There was some shooting/stabbing incident in a dodgy are not to far from here last Tuesday and the natives are obviously still restless. Pretty scary as it isn't too far from us.

I have loads to do today as well including housework, bank and post office so no rest for me (although I may have a wee snooze whilst DD is sleeping).

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 29/09/2008 11:58

Hugs, Daisy. It is awful when the night drags on like that and you watch the hours going by on the clock. Hope you get some rest today.

Apparently Jamlet was upset on arrival at nursery . I guess it's nearly a fortnight since she was last there, and she's had a lots of constant 1-to-1 (or often 2-to-1) attention from us with fun and different things to do, and it was a shock to the sytem to find that it wasn't going to continue. But at least she gets to play all morning and they'll give her cuddles if she gets too upset. I've got a stinky report to work on!

IamRiallyindisguise · 29/09/2008 12:27

Hi everyone.Hope you feel better daisy. Good news about the rats fury.
poor jamlet. I had a battle with DS2 this morning because I thought he was too ill to go to school. It seems not.
